It's important to note that the vertebrae do not come on a stand and there is no intervertebral disk included, however, it was exactly what I wanted! The 5 vertebrae come threaded on a string that you can just cut and have the single vertebrae to study. It seemed accurate enough to identify the different parts.

I purchased this dry erase book for my 2 year old granddaughter for Christmas but gave it to her early. She is a little young for some of the activities but is learning about shapes. And the book helps her practice what she has already learned about colors.

I've experimented with a wide variety of baby maracas with babies at the library where I work, we use them in baby storytime. I bought two of these for our 1 year old for Christmas, and it's his favorite one so far. He likes to hold it in his is mouth by the ring while he uses other noisemakers in his hands! The sound is excellent, like a "real" maraca. It's easy for grownups (or older kids) to shake out more complex rythms with these, and do subtle changes from soft to louder, slow to fast. It's also the safest I've tried so far: there isn't a long handle babies can gag themselves with. I'd be comfortable giving it to a newborn. It's also very "tight," meaning there isn't a seam down the middle where gunk can get stuck. Very important for toys used by large groups of babies! I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, or soak it in soapy water, but it's fine being wiped with a soapy sponge and rinsed off. Cheaper maracas get water inside when washed, or they break under heavy use. This one appears unbreakable so far! I'm planning to buy a couple dozen for work!

Our 10 mo old LOVES this--it's much better than the Chiquita (can drop without worries) and its noisy enough to entertain her but not annoying for mom &dad. Highly recommend--great deal too! Would have been great 4 mo ago too!

Bought for 8 month old grandson. He is now 2-1/2 and has lost interest. It is geared for a baby and he enjoyed up til he was about 1-1/2. The bright yellow is eyecatching and it was easy for him to hold and shake.

I love these maracas. I use them for a baby music class, and I would definitely buy more if I needed more instruments. They have a nice sound, they are very durable, and they are easy for the babies and parents to hold and shake. They also stand up to a good sucking, which of course is important for use with babies. I highly recommend them!

LeapFrog LeapReader Interactive Talking Words Factory Flash Cards Reviews

LeapFrog LeapReader Interactive Talking Words Factory Flash Cards
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

First, your child should probably be beginning to read, know most of the alphabet and each letter's sounds probably around kindergartento benefit from this, at least if you want them to play by themselves.

The cards are 5"x 3.5" in size.

There are six green stars that represent the varying games and here are what they represent:

NAME JAMMER this is just for fun. Pick a letter and the game will grant you a silly name for the duration. G = Groovy Grasshopper and so forth.

WORD 5: Pick a beginning sound. So I pick an 'S' and it tells me to find an ending sound to make the word 'sun." I find the card 'un' and the game sounds out the word 'sun.' for me. Then it tells me to find more. I pick the card 'it' and it tells me I made the word sit and to find more words that start with S. If you pick a wrong combo, such as 'ig' which would make 'sig' it will tell you to try again. This exercise is timed and at the end, it tallies up your successes.

There is an additional fold out that has examples of words. Example: there is a bold 'G' with the words gap, get and got underneath it. It is a reference card to help with putting words together.

RHYME TIME: Choose an ending sound like 'ip' then the game will tell you to find the beginning sound 'zzzz' to make the word zip. I find 'z' and it sounds out zip. It then tells me to find 4 more beginning sounds to make more rhyming words.

WORD FUSER = It states find the beginning and ending sounds 'h' and 'ug.' There are a lot of cards, so for a kid to go 'hhhh' and find letter 'h' and the the sound 'uuu' and 'ggg' on the 'ug' card. Good game, but my child ran out of time. So this game for when his skills have improved.

DJ WORD touch a beginning sound. I picked 'r.' Now I have to find an ending card that will make a word that starts with 'rrr.' I picked 'id.' It now sounds out the word 'rid' for me and informs me I made a word, groovy grasshopper.

TUNE TIME (didn't like this one). Pick a beginning sound. I picked 'b' which has a picture of a bat and and bed. It tells me to choose a picture. I pick bat and it sings a short goofy song that after one time, wants me to sing along with it. Annoying to me trying to be all cute, but kids may like it and it helps with phonics skills.

Overall pretty good. The cards are fairly thick and sturdy. The cards incorporate learning letters and phonics, as well as utilize those skills to make words. The colors and design are attractive. It gives verbal instruction, but also allows the player independence to make words on their own. I like also the fold out with the words written on it, so the kids have something to refer to. The cards are color coded as end sounds have an orange border and beginning sounds are either purple or green. Not sure why though, the beginning sounds edging are two colors? The backs of each of the cards have the alphabet written on them that make fun phonetic sounds when selected.

Things I would change:

Perhaps make the cards a wee bit smaller. This takes up quite a bit of room and is somewhat difficult to put all the cards within arm's reach of a smaller child. My six year old had to keep getting off his chair to reach the cards he wanted, and this didn't help much with the 'timed' game.

How about some written instructions for parents.

Why are the beginning sounds edges purple(7) or green (12).

The fold out with the words has most of the word combos you could make, but not ALL the available combos. Under letter 'Y' it only has 'yet.' What about yip, and yap? There is still room available on the foldout?

I'm glad I bought this and my 6 year old seems to like it, though he still needs some help. He is adopted from another country and has lived here less than a year, so I am also using it to improve his ESL skills. I like that it incorporates, sound, sight and doing to learn, which is great.

We are huge Tag fans at our house but this was a complete disappointment. It is impossible to play without spreading all the cards out on the floor around your child, and even then, the games are very slow moving because it takes a while for the child to locate the beginning/ending sounds that are called for. Additionally, there is a lot of "talking" from the Tag pen in between activities that is a real drag. I would not recommend this at all for a Pre-K or Kdgn child. It required WAY too much patience, even for and adult! Stick to the books with activities at the end. They are much more effective. This is a waste of money for use with the Tag pen. We do spend more time just playing with the cards and building words on our own. If you want a fun game for building words with your child, get the Sound Hounds game! My kids (aged 3, 4, & 5) love that game.

Right out of the box the microscope worked great. Software loaded right up and we were able to project some great images. I would rate the overall experience fantastic if there had been some assembly instructions included in the box or a note to go to You Tube for the demonstration video which was well done and very informative. Also at the time of the purchase making sure that the buyer knows that they are not going to get any slides (not even one) might have prompted an add on purchase and a lot less scrambling around trying to find sides locally during the birthday party. Price, quality and after sale service made this a good choice.AmScope 40X-1000X All-Metal Optical Glass Lenses Cordless LED Student Biological Compound Microscope with Coarse & Fine Focusing

These are little spheres that grow, when placed in a dish of water, to about the size of a little larger than chick peas. Perfect for a nine year old boy with an older sister! My son wanted this so badly, but it was so close to Christmas that I doubted it would deliver on time. Now, he's pretty much figured out that I'm Santa, but he still likes to play the game, so I told him "Santa" was finished collecting gifts for everyone and it probably would't happen. But I went online the next day and ordered it and, lo and behold, it delivered less than a week later. He is very happy and his sister is being very nice to him.

Good quality sieves delivered fairly promptly. I use them for sieving fossiliferous silt from the Shwrktooth Hill bone bed, and the smaller screens are finer than I need. Maybe I should've gotten the set with fewer screens... Anyway, they work very well, and I am quite pleased with their performance.

The V Smile Pocket Carry Case is the perfect accessory for the handheld system. Has enough room for unit, several games, and even a small pair of headphones. It even has a handy carrying strap and extra pockets. A+!

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Carry case is a great idea. Practically, this product falls a bit short. The case gives you room for two smartridges (in theory) but the pockets are so tight that once one is in, the second is virtually impossible to get anything into. On the plus side, it's roomy enough to put additional loose smartridges in once the console is inside. The downside to that, though, is that the games fall out as soon as you open the case up for play. We now carry the case for the cords, headphones, etc, with the actual VSmile Pocket and the assorted smartridges in a separate cloth bag (IKEA's Minnen collection, $2.99). Works much better.

Best Deals for VTech - V.Smile Pocket Carry Case

I bought this product for my son for Christmas so that he could put his V Smile Pocket and games in it when we travel. Everything is great except you can only fit maybe 2 games in 1 of the pockets, and they are hard to get in there. The 2nd pocket is too small to hold any games. You would think that since Vtech made this carrying case that they would accommodate for everything that goes along with the V Smile Pocket.

Honest reviews on VTech - V.Smile Pocket Carry Case

I saws this on clcearance at a local store and decided to buy it for my son's Leapster. The Leapster case is designed to fit the older style games and is too big for the newer design. If you turn the leapster sideways you can fot the game and the Leapster wallet in one side and accessories in the other. It's well padded and the color makes it easy to see in a worl where every carrying case is usuallt dark.

As a middle school math teacher, I was constantly frustrated by many students' appalling lack of command of basic math. Learning algebra without having things like the times tables already firmly in place is a torturous and usually hopeless endeavor. The vital importance of young children learning and memorizing the fundamentals cannot be stressed enough.

The 24 Game is the most effective, easy and appealing device I ever found for helping kids to shore up their foundations in the basic understanding of numbers. Most kids love playing it, and the game forces players to exercise their brains. Because the number 24 has so many factors, there are often multiple answers for a card, which enhances students' understanding of how numbers work in different situations.

My only complaint is that there really ought to be a set of solutions available somewhere. Some of these cards had me and my best students stumped and I still can't figure them out. There are some online "solver" programs, but none of them seem to be able to deal with fractions.

Still, the 24 Game is a masterpiece, elegant in its simplicity and offering a challenge to even the most advanced students.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

Students can be lazy about learning their basic facts which slows them down in more complex operations with fractions and decimals. This game challenges them to think quickly and to see the value of learning the basic number facts because they are put on the spot when playing this game. A real ego boost when they "figure out" an answer! Great for upper grades and middle school students as well as older students.

I would recommend this product to everyone teaching fifth and sixth grade. The students love practicing this after lunch to get them back into study mode.

As I was saying, this is a great toy for teaching a Child the alphabet, Uppercase and lowercase letters and also for teaching them some pictures of some common things in life. It's also very interesting and a good idea that they have certain sides of the blocks which are textured so that the child can also feel Feel the letters Instead of only seeing what a picture of the letter looks like on the blocks. The blocks also come with 10 extra letters, which makes it easy for creating words Instead of only using only the basic 26 blocks.I did not read the description well enough the first time to realize that it included these... I was very pleasantly surprised :-)

These blocks rock. I bought them for my 10-month old and while she doesn't pay too much attention yet to the letting and pictures, she loves to bang them together and throw them around. The only thing about them that I noticed is their smell. They have a very new wooden scent to them that I'm sure will go away in time. It's not offensive at all and still would not deter me from purchasing more of these. I'm very satisfied with these blocks.

Best Deals for Ryan's Room Wooden Toys Block Party

I would not recommend this product for a child who likes to chew on things. My son who is 10 months chewed a chunk off of the block. He has played with them for awhile but now has 4 teeth and chews on everything. Thankfully I was with him otherwise he would have swallowed the wood which could have lead to a serious problem.

Honest reviews on Ryan's Room Wooden Toys Block Party

These wooden blocks are just what I was looking for. The are larger than your standard block so they stack easily, but my daughter's small hands can still grab them easily. The edges are smooth. My daughter has been playing with them for a while and no signs of splintering on the blocks. The quality is excellent! This set of blocks is a bargain! This toy is great for small babies just starting to grab things all the way up to children learning the letters and how to spell!

Geoworld Ice Age Excavation Kit - Cave Bear Skeleton
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

We've had both Geoworld and 4M excavation kits, and both have their pros and cons. The geokits are definitely easier to excavate, so I recommend them over the 3M kits for kids with a shorter attention span or younger kids. The Geoworld kits are basically colored chalk with bones embedded in them; the 4M kits are a harder substance, so more effort is needed to get the parts out.

My kids (8 and 9) both agreed that the Geoworld models are more realistic and they liked them better. We did have a hard time putting the Geoworld models together so that they would stay together (especially the cave bear.) Once together it seems the 4M models stay together a little better, however neither are for anything but display, and don't like to be handled.

All in all, I would recommend either brand for a fun afternoon project (takes about an hour with clean-up.) Also, these kits are pretty messy newspaper or craft paper under everything is helpful. Also note that the 4M kits are made of a gritty substance that can be abrasive to tabletops, so definitely use something under them if you're working on a nice table.

This is a nifty kit that let's you dig the bones out of a plaster-like matrix and snap them together without glue. This model reinforces the idea that this is really all we actually know about these extinct creatures-their bones.

Best Deals for Geoworld Ice Age Excavation Kit - Cave Bear Skeleton

It's okay. Messy fun for kids. Doesn't stay together, but a little bit of glue fixes that. Now we need the mammoth.

Honest reviews on Geoworld Ice Age Excavation Kit - Cave Bear Skeleton

My son, who just turned 7, loved this digging kit. Personally, I wouldn't think it would be all that exciting, but as soon as he opened his gift he wanted to "start digging."

As mentioned in Heather Doane's excellent review, the ABS plastic bones are in some sort of chalk-like matrix that is quite easy to dig the bones out of. We've had a couple of "gemstone mining" kits that were much harder and really made my 10-year-old work over a few days. The blue chalk matrix in this Geoworld kit is probably well-suited to younger kids or anyone with limited patience.

I didn't explicitly time the activity, but it probably took 40 minutes to free up all the plastic bones.

After excavation but before assembly, we had to clean the "chalk" out of various holes. The tools they give you don't seem adequate for the job, but we found that an un-bent paperclip and a similar piece of stiff wire worked well.

My son dug out the bones by himself, but needed help assembling them. Even I couldn't squeeze hard enough to get some of the pegs fully seated in the receiving holes, but it didn't matter -it stays together and looks fine. Overall I felt that it went together pretty well (with my help).

BTW, we found that the pelvis could be put on more than one way, so check the instructions and the box carefully if yours comes out in a radically different pose. Also, the skull assembles around the ball on the neck -it doesn't look like it would work to try to snap the ball joint into the completed skull.

A plastic base is included, which worked well for our model.

My son is very pleased with the result and says it's really cool!

I was looking for a site that sold the Vtech AC adapter at a discount and saw that Amazon sells it for twice the price of the vtechkids website. I thought 9.99 was too much to pay.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

BTW, much as I love amazon, they price according to the "it's all supply and demand" vendors who try to jack the price up, so I don't buy much during this time of year, and only if it's not available locally or cheaper on a retail store site, so obviously this isn't a amazon purchase. I got it for 10 dollars retail at my local big box store. Got the innotab for retail from a famous bigbox retail store and only paid 79.99 AND it came with a soft case. I actually unpacked it in the store and plugged it into the sample on they have wired up to check the fit.

But overall, it's an adaptor. Tonight, in the wee hours after I'm sure my daughter's asleep, I'll be using it to set up the innotab before I wrap it up for christmas. It's available at 1/3rd of the current price(24.99) locallywhile my store is out of vtech electronics, they have accessories out the behind, so it's most likely available at your store too.

Best Deals for Vtech InnoTab Touch Learning Tablet AC Power Adapter

The power adapter is a must for the Innotab unless you plan on buying rechargeable batteries.

Some adapters stated they were specific but it seems that all Vtec products use the same standard AC power adapter so shop around. Buy the $10 VTEC one instead of this one. Same thing.
