I bought this for my son for his 3rd birthday & was a bit disappointed. To get the game to work, you have to be standing directly over the sensor, holding the controller just exactly right & you have to swing with all the power of Mark McGwire during the "enhanced" years. There are times even when I have tried it out that I had to swing with almost all of my force to get any kind of reaction. It took us a few tries to figure out he had to be standing directly over the floor piece, which is fine, except for that sometimes he steps on it. I'd think after a while that won't be good for it.

In the articles before this toy came out, it was said it was the Wii for toddlers...great, my son loves messing with the Wii, so I thought this would be perfect! Not so much, like I said, you have to have everything just right for the sensor to work, which for 3 year olds & I'm guessing even 4-5 year olds, that becomes frustrating after the 10th time you've been told stand right here, don't turn the controller upside down & get your fingers off of the red bar.

Not to mention that in today's world of video games the graphics aren't going to wow too many kids that already have gaming systems in the house. I know things need to be childlike, but at some points the graphics are even a bit fuzzy, which is pretty pathetic.

The overall idea of the toy is good, the learning part is great, the execution needs some work. It needs to be changed to a sensor bar more like the Wii, so that the controller can just be held in the hand without the worry that it's being held incorrectly. Several flaws around this one, not sure how Fisher Price could have had kids try this out & have had this design pass & make it to the shelves. They need revamped a lot...and the folks that have bought round 1 need to get the redesign for free. This was a lot of money to plunk down for something that's not totally enjoyable.

I bought this for my 3 year old son, as a Christmas gift. He enjoys playing the games and it is fairly educational at the same time. The graphics are a weak, but this isnt xbox360 its for preschoolers. My son doesn't seem to mind, as he is always wanting me to take it out for him to play. At times it does seem a little hard to get the console to pick up his movements, almost like a delay. Overall my son enjoys it, and has fun with this and his v-motion. [although i perfer the v-motion!]

I was really disappointed in this product. I purchased it for my 3 and 1/2 year old son. The idea was great. I bought it instead of the more expensive motorcycle game they had primarily because it looked easy to unhook and store when not in use. This was easy to set up and even my kid figured out how to turn it on and switch out the different sports components. My son is truly interested in the games and educational activities, but gets frustrated because the sensor does not work right. I thought maybe he was just using it wrong so I played it with no luck. Even I gave up after a few minutes of the computer not reacting to my swings and motions. There are two arms that hook into the sensor to give the child a "zone" to stand in. The arms do not click in place and just fall out. Even when the child stands in this zone, the sensors don't work well. I was not impressed with the quality of the graphics, but I think my kid wouldn't have cared if only the sensor reacted better. i spent around $40.00 on this product and it sits unused in the corner.

It's a great way to get a little exercise in the house when the weather is bad outside and it is not a wild and rough toy. I would recommend to anyone with room to play it.

My 7 yr old grandson loved getting this for his birthday. I have always provided bug catchers of one kind or another for him, as he loves studying bugs and insects. This one is especially nice as he can carry it with him by attaching it to his belt loops. I love the feature that allows him to catch a bug in the small receptacle then transfer it to the bug jug to study.

This cartridge is great for my 3 year old. She uses it all by herself and loves to play the games. She really enjoys listening to the two stories about the princesses and she listens to them over and over. She is learning a lot as she plays with her v.reader. It is great because she loves to read and I can't always sit down and read with her but with this she can read as long as the batteries last. I would recommend it to any parent of a toddler.

We bought this game for my daughter's sixth birthday. She is an early reader and is very eager to read and play reading games. After ten minutes of playing the game, she told me that she had not played any reading games yet. After she went to bed, I played the entire game (as my newborn slept in my arms). This is what I found:

A. There are many characters that get introduced and there is a predetermined sequence to the quests (which are short games). Each character has his/her own game. As you complete these short games more characters and year book photos become unlocked.

B. There are five main themes to the games

1. Games where you need to aim at a target with a moving obstacle in the way. Example, mini golf type games where the windmill is the obstacle. The object in the way is very slow and there is not much of a challenge to these games.

2. wack a mole type games where you need to touch the animals as quick as possible. One of the many characters is a magician and you need to tap the hat when it wiggles to find the frog (only place where there is magic). There is a degree of challenge because you need to be pretty quick towards the end.

3. Slicing games: wood, paper, or eggs move across the screen and you need to slice the objects in half.

4. Get the object to land between 2 points; you need to bring the stylus back the correct amount to send it flying with the goal to land between 2 points. I found these games frustrating because the unit did not always register my activity.

5. Reading games These games are very few but are good games when you do encounter them. Also, when you finish a reading game it does ask the question, "Do you want to play again?"

I played the game straight through and kept accepting the next quest. I found out later, as you complete quests you unlock photos in the "year book" section. When you click on the photos, they all look blank. The photos are like a scratch card with a picture underneath. There are three characters in each picture with their names on the bottom of the page. You need to match the name tag to the correct character.

In a nutshell: I completed the quest games in maybe an hour. Of that hour, only about 10 minutes involved games with reading or letter recognition. I did not find a way to select just reading games. After completing the games, it took about 8 minutes (being generous) to match the name tags to the characters. Players can go to the photo section anytime and scratch the pictures they have unlocked.

Our goal was to purchase a game with a focus on reading which is why I gave it a 2. I do feel that we will find use for the game in other ways:

1. In the car, my daughter was frustrated with moving Tinker Bell through some gears and felt she was no good. Her confidence was immediately restored with this Leap School Reading game because the games are short and after each game they give you very positive feedback. Within moments she responded, "I am good at this."

2. Leap School Reading may be a good learning tool for my almost three year old. Not with the focus of reading but rather how to use the stylus in different ways.

There are lots of things you do in this game.

You have to match letters that are facing the correct way. You have to tap on Hats when they wiggle, you learn about Cause and Effect, Counting and searching for things. There is plenty to keep the kid interested with several different characters that get introduced.

My daughter who is 6 and is in Kindergarten really enjoys this.

My 3 year old daughter loves this game. She's been glued to it since she got it 10 days ago, and has most of it completed. All of the Explorer games are well made and very educational.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: LeapSchool Reading (works

Most of this game consists of listening to characters introduce themselves or playing games that involve cutting objects in half with the stylus or tapping objects, and only a few games involve any word recognition. I am extremely disappointed in the amount of educational content, and I think the name of the game is misleading.

Previous 2 star reviewer hit it right on the head. Lots of mini games with mostly easy speed and coordination games and one out of every 4 games in the sequence are "educational" as far as reading goes. Yes you can read some stuff while setting up the mini games but there is also a narrator so its not that educational. My 6 year old is a VERY good reader (reading 100 page chapter books in 3 days or less now) so this has no educational value to him. His younger brother (will be 4 in a month) has little interest in the leappad so far. My 6 year old played this game once in the 6 months he has had it. I played it today and found it to be LAME. They watched me play the game so maybe it sparked some interest? Get puzzled is by far my 6 year olds FAVORITE game.

I purchased this for my grand daughter Chloe, who is five years old. She loves it!! Reading is such an important skill to foster in our children. She loves the device. I had read her many books on my kindle and she wanted her own and this fits the bill. I do wish there was a larger selection of books available on this device, I have purchased nine for her so far, I do hope they expand the library available. I also bought the car chargers so she can read on her long trips to visit grandma!!

A great gift and good value!

This is the first cartridge we bought to go with our daughter's v-reader. Our daughter is 4.5 years old, and she really enjoys the story and games. The games are definitely aimed at an older age group but she can do about 1/2 of them by herself and the rest are challenging enough to keep her interested.

My son is now 4 but has been playing Mickey since december (age 3) and this game along hs taught him how to use his fingers to trace shapes (in the game tracing around it makes the shape look like it is being welded out of a piece of metal) so now he is able to draw them with crayons and identify them and also can count change ALSO taught him left from right in the directions it was giving to trace around the shapes. I recommend this game to anyone.

I have several sets of Flash of Brilliance flash cards and they are fantastic for my students. Unlike most flash cards that use cartoon-style artwork, Flash of Brilliance uses real photos. I find that this provides a lot of educational value. The cards are also very thick and are the only cards that I can find that can withstand my K-2 phonics students. My sets of cheaper cards from other vendors get ripped, torn, and bent beyond recognition, while these have lasted for several years. The cards are great for teaching beginning sounds, learning new vocabulary, and also for learning sign language. They cost a little bit more, but are 100% worth it. This latest set is really nice I like that there are several objects with the same beginning letter sound. Highly recommend.

This is a great toy for the kids. It really engages them in exploring and building for many hours. They need very little help from parents. My only complaint is that the set contains 88 pieces, all of which fit very nicely in a samdwhich bag. The packaging is waayyy over the top, about 10 times the size it needs to be. Talk zbout waste! Your kids will love it though.

My husband found a 42 piece box of Geomag's at a yard sale and brought them home. My grandson discovered them at age 4, and has played with them almost constantly since then. It has reinforced his learning of shapes, taught him about building and construction, magnets and patience. Many afternoons he would put down Lego's and/or video games to play with the Geomag set. I am back today to pick up a larger set for his 5th birthday, and I *know* this is going to be a favorite present that will continue to enthrall and entertain him for several years to come. I highly recommend this entertaining and educational toy, especially for the 4 to 10 year old group.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Known for making innovative and educational children's toys, LeapFrog has introduced the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School". This colorful toy can be used, according to the description, to compose music and to play music and games. The recommended age range for this toy is 3 years and older. A handle at the top of the unit allows a small child to carry the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School" wherever they choose to go. There are no loose pieces to lose which can be a real plus.

The "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School" operates by touch. Turning on the unit requires a bit more pressure on the small on/off "button" than expected. Initially, younger children may not exert enough pressure to turn on the button and may become frustrated. The instruments, small keyboard, and other functions activate with a much lighter touch.

In the "compose" mode, the user is told to touch one of three instruments and listen to what happens. Then the child is told to spin the fish to make the music go faster. However, there is a fish playing a horn and a circular school of fish neither is capable of "spinning", but if you move your finger rapidly around and around the school of fish, the music speeds up. Touching the "song" key and then one of the six animals causes a portion of a familiar childhood song to play. The "game" mode directs the child to touch an item or color; if correct, the voice gives positive reinforcement. The toy ignores, by saying nothing, an incorrect answer.

I was not impressed with the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School". Although targeted for ages 3 and older, my 3 ½ -year old grandson was quickly bored by the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School". The questions in the game mode, for example "touch something red" or "find the harp", asked him to identify things he was able to do beginning at age one. In my opinion, most children in the recommended age range would also find the game mode too simple to be interesting. The compose mode does not provide a wide scope for or means of composing original music; the keyboard is limited to one octave. It is also small and oddly shaped. Adults who dislike tinny sounding musical toys and annoying repetitious songs will thoroughly dislike the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School".

I would not recommend the "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School" for the targeted age group. It might be suitable for much younger children, but I have reservations with respect to its overall educational value and interest-longevity. In both my opinion and my grandson's, the B. Meowsic Keyboard is a much better toy for encouraging musical interest and composition. He is still playing enthusiastically with his "piano" after two years. The "LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School" was relegated to the corner after only a short time.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program When this arrived as toys go I didn't have too many problems coming out of the box. Batteries are included. The whole surface is smooth on the toy. I do wish that there was a slight texture on the animals etc. The on button needs a little more pressure to switch on than the other areas. There also is a switch at the back to reduce the volume. The activities are simple and easy to grasp. There are three little stars that light up next to the horn, drum and the guitar. To me they seem a little strange as nothing else lights up. My one year old had fun touching everything although she is not doing the educational piece. The questions and actions are a little on the basic side but can still be fun. Overall this is a nice toy.

Best Deals for LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The top surface of this toy is smooth. There's no way to see or feel where the 'buttons' are to activate various features. Granted, it's pretty forgiving. You can tap anywhere on the animals, anywhere on the keys, to make sounds. But after a few seconds of watching a kid trying to tap the light next to the drum kit instead of the drum kit itself, even i was frustrated.

As with most LeapFrog toys, the voices are shrill and it defaults to being noisy and pestering. With a few taps, you can make it quiet so your child can explore the different musical notes and sounds, but unless you do, it's just an endless loop of noise.

There are three modes, 'Compose', 'Song', and 'Game'.

Compose is a sort of free-for-all. It starts with the 'guitar' loop playing, and kids can bang on the keys or the animals-with-instruments to add more noise.

Song encourages kids to touch the different instruments to hear little samples of sound, or they can touch an animal-with-instrument to play a song. (Now this would have been a great opportunity to actually teach something. If, for example, the keys lit up to show which note was being played in the song. But no, it just plays a song like 'twinkle twinkle'.)

Game involves the device telling the user to touch a certain color. There are pretty much only two options the key of that color, or the animal/instrument of that color. The device then tells the kid what they touched (the key color, the animal name, the instrument), and starts again. Given that there are only 8 keys, 6 animals, and 4 instruments, the options are limited.

There's pretty much nothing this toy does that isn't done by every other toy on the market these days. Hit a button, hear a song. The only interesting education option, using the playing song to teach a little basic keyboarding, isn't one of the features.

And in a bid to lighten the toy or lower the cost by reducing the material requirements, the back of the toy is mostly empty space with thin plastic bands for structural support. While not actually sharp, they do dig into a kid's lap if they're wearing shorts instead of long pants. I'll post a picture of this (the toy, not the red lines of my child's legs after using it).

If you want your kid to experiment with music, get them a keyboard. There are some pretty cheap, pretty good ones on the market these days that actually do teach kids how to play some simple songs. If you just want more noise in your life, this one'll do.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog Touch Magic Ocean Music School

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The minimum age for this product is 3 years old, so I had a reasonable expectation that it would be fun for a just-turned-four-year-old. Not so.

Overall, I think it's an interesting idea. It lies flat, and is probably easier to transport than a keyboard or drum form factor. It is inspired by tablet computing. However, the lack of knobs and keys made it difficult for my child to grasp its purpose.

When I showed him how it was used, he said it was a boring toy. This is a boy that loves music, that likes to dance, play with a real drum and ukelele. After seeing this toy, he asked me if we could use the REAL keyboard (a synthesizer I own) instead.

Overall the product felt like it was trying too hard to be educational.

If marketed at very young children 1-3 it might be a good toy.
