I am happy with this purchase. I feel it is good for early walkers. My son used this when first walking at 11 months on hardwood floors and did great. He loved the bucket to put toys in. We now have it in the ride-on form and at 16 months he is not quite tall enough, but he still loves pushing it around and putting things in the bin. I like that it steers.

I do want to note that while the description states it is made of solid wood, and some parts might be solid wood, most of it is plywood. I deem it quality plywood, but let it be known.

The assembly was a bit challenging, especially curving the part of the bucket, thankfully that only needs to be done once and the conversions are relatively simple. I did end up adding extra washers to the handlebars to make a tighter fit.

Update: My 2 1/2 year old plays with the ride-on everyday. He is very rough with it, tips it over and jumps on it, runs it into things, throws heavy wood blocks in the bucket, etc. and it has held up fabulously. I highly recommend this wonderful toy!

This is a great product for a child that needs a sturdy walker. Our daughter has developmental delays and she didn't walk until she started using this (at 17 months old). The only problem with it is that it is hard for her to turn it, so she gets frustrated when she tries to use it like a doll stroller. She can turn is, but it takes some work for her to do so.

The toy looked like a great buy for the money being that it converts into 3 different things. Here's the problem we've had. The nuts that screw onto the wheels constantly need to be tightened (they are small and pose a choking risk). Also, the nuts and bolts that hold the handle bar together do not stay tightened, so we always seem to be tightening those too. And, the flexible plywood that makes the basket also constantly falls away from the side wall panel grooves. The kids do enjoy playing with it (when it's not falling apart). I would give this product a much higher rating, if it stayed together ALL the time.

We bought this for our twin grandchildren who just turned one. They loved it so much that we bought another so they wouldn't fight . It is extremely well-made and will not tip. We know this because the twins love to climb inside and before we bought the second, one child would climb on top of the other one. Big brother enjoys pushing these carts around the house as well. The only minor drawback is installing the curved bottom which really requires two people. I see these as lasting many years.

...for a non-tip cart for our early walker!

We purchased this for our 1 year old, as she loves to walk around the house and pick up her toys. This cart is perfect for her to put her "trinkets" in, and we love, love, love that it is sturdy and doesn't tip over when she pushes down on the handle (like others we tried before. We can't speak for the other uses, but I imagine she will love it just as much.

My husband had no problem putting it together, but said the directions weren't all that helpful.

My only complaint is that the cart is fairly large and therefore heavy for her to turn as she moves about the house.

This is a well designed, well documented, sturdy toy/study tool that my son is very interested in. At 9.5 he can almost do it all by himself. The design is SO MUCH better than K'nex, less bulky, more realistic a product, more flexibility, etc. K'nex seems to be a toy that tried to grow a cap and gown, while this seems to have sprung from educational roots. (My son still makes monsters and guns out of it.)

We are using this as part of 4th grade homeschool, to seat the mechanics we have studied via manipulatives, and I whole-heartedly endorse this.

There are 6+ models in each booklet, a parts list on the back of each booklet, so you can lay out your parts ahead of time, clear instructions, a study guide and a small, non-onerous workbook with clear illustrations and a quick quiz at the bottom, covering a couple of projects from each booklet. Not all are "typical" projects, e.g. a pantograph and Peaucellier Lipkin linkage in the linkages booklet.

I would have given it 5 stars, but it came missing some pieces. While my emails were promptly responded to, and the missing parts were mailed right out, it did mean I spent 30 minutes going over the additive parts lists on the backs of each booklet and jotting down what parts I was missing. So -inventory the moment you get it.

ETA: if any of the connections seem tight the first time you use it, you can disassemble it easily by running hot water over the female part and icing the male part. More science to teach kiddo!

We are really enjoying this kit. Last year we read Sally Walker's books called Wheels, Inclined Planes, Gear, etc and did the simple hands on things. This year, ready for much more complex hands-on, this has been a perfect "step up" for a 9 year old.

My kids are Lego fanatics, so I wasn't sure if this would compare in enjoyment. They love it, though! 10 year old daughter and 9 year old son could do it all independently, but my 6 and 4 year olds needed a little help. I would have given 5 stars except that one or two of the machines, once built, did not function smoothly because the axle bent. But they still got the idea:) I while-hearted lay recommend it for educational play or homeschool.

I am not one to write reviews, although I use them regularly when choosing products to buy on Amazon. But, as my two boys sit on the floor this morning, playing with this set, I feel compelled to tell you how wonderful it is. We gave this to my son for his 6th birthday as his big present from us and he fell in love immediately. I knew he was probably a little young for it, but thought it would be a good set to grow in to. Just a bit of background: our son is the kid that can't get enough Legos, that will sit for hours putting together and taking apart one set, that builds above his Lego level often with very little help. I was wanting something to challenge him and give him a little more of an education on how mechanics work. Enter the Engino Simple Machines set!

My son LOVES it, but it is definitely challenging and requires Daddy to sit with him, teaching him along the way. It's a GREAT way for the two of them to get in some quality time together. The pieces snap together much differently than Legos and take a bit of practice. It can be frustrating, but is good at teaching my 6 yo self-control. So far, they've made 6 or 8 of the sets, the coolest of which was an airplane whose propeller turned as it sped down the runway! When built, the machines are much bigger than Lego sets which make them very cool to fly or drive around the house.

Currently my 4 and 6 year olds are sitting on the floor building together with the pieces and their own imaginations. I would never say that a product is better than Lego (the BEST toy EVER invented), but this is a GREAT toy for those who love to build and want to learn using their hands. It is not a toy that is played with every day the way Legos are at our house, but it is regularly pulled out and just this morning produced the comment, "Mommy, thank you so much for buying this set for me for my birthday. I LOVE it!"

We always buy learning toys for grandsons, and I did my homework before choosing this. The 8-year-old opened another birthday gift first, a small wood box I'd made for him, wrapped in a saved box from an Oxo salad spinner. He shoved it aside, thinking it actually WAS a salad spinner.

Then he opened the Machines box and played with it quietly for over an hour. His older brother left him alone all that time. (Another nice gift to all of us.) After dinner, he went back to assembling different machines. The rest of us didn't disturb him by "helping."

My daughter told the next morning that instead of sleeping till 9 as usual, both boys quietly got up around 7 and played together at the dining table for several hours. She sent a picture of them elbow to elbow at the table, creating their own machines. Such interest is very unusual for them, with no squabbling. They like Legos, but loved the different engineering of the Engino pieces. They can exercise creativity in many different ways.

This is a well-designed, well-made, high quality set that teaches how simple machines actually work. If you see value in teaching kids to understand how things work, this is for you.

It's a great product, very well made and quite entertaining. My son was 8 months old when I bought it and at the beginning he was only interested in chewing on the beads and maybe a little bit watching how I move the beads; but now (9 months) more and more often I find him sitting and playing with it by himself. He examines the beads, moves them from place to place etc. It keeps him entertained for about 15 min which is the longest stretch of time for one singe toy. Overall I am happy with this toy, the only drawback is that some of the beads are plastic (the yellow and the green ones) and I was expecting all wood.

The toy itself is a lot of fun for my 1 year old. He likes to move the beads and shake the whole thing over his head.

My only wish is that the suction cups either worked better or just weren't there. We have tried sticking it on wood furniture and windows and hard wood floors but it can't hold out against a few tugs from the baby.

He still likes it but don't expect to be able to put it in one set place.

I purchased this for my 9-month old son. This is a great starter bead toy and it really helped him get the concept of using fine motor control to push the beads along the coil. Of course, he still loves to just pick it up and stick the whole thing in his mouth, but I've really noticed him getting better and better at using the toy over the past month. He doesn't seem to get sick of it, either. The bright colors of the beads and coil draws his attention and the beads are of different size, which my son really likes he seems to have a preference for some beads over others. I think he'll get a lot of use out of this because he still has a long way to go before using it perfectly.

My child was ~9 mo old when purchased & she was far more interested in the suction cups on the bottom than the toy part. Now at almost 11 mo, she's started playing with the toy part. The balls are smooth & the toy is secure, but the suction cups aren't all that great. It was intended to be for use on the high chair tray, which it does stick to fairly well, but she didn't want to play with it there. I recommend this toy.

Who would have thought that my son's 5th grade Social studies book wouldn't be included on this cartridge? When the item description didn't mention that it wouldn't be compatible with all curriculums, I didn't think twice about ordering this. My school system uses all of the mainstream text books, yet I keep striking out with these cartridges because none of our books are included in any of the subjects. Amazon should list the textbooks that are included on the cartridges in the product description. It would be easy enough, as the books are listed right on the back of the package.

My son loves this. He calls it his little computer. He loved the software that came pre loaded and the Handy Manny software that we bought to go with it. He also loves that I loaded a bunch of pictues of family and friends that he can look at and play with. I have not yet tried to load music but you can.

The only drawback that I can think of is that you have to load the games on your computer and transfer them to the ixl. Not too bad, just thought I was getting a "cartridge" or something that he could change out himself.

I would also recommend getting some kind of bag or carrying case to take it along with you. I am looking for one to "protect" it.

We wanted something fun but educational for our boys of 5 and 2, we bought the leapster 2 but took it back to the shop as it wasn't durable enough and it didn't actually do what we wanted, At the time my parents were visiting relatives in the U.S and we were browsing the net one evening, came across the IXL and thought wow! we want those, but could we get them here in the U.K? I bought this for my youngest son's 4th bday. It was an instant hit! Took it out of the box beforehand and loaded some photos and favorite songs I had downloaded from amazon. We do not even have any of the software titles and he still loves to play with this. He has a lot of fun drawing on the pics of his brothers and playing music like his own ipod. Very easy to load the songs and photos onto his iXL. His older brothers (6 and 7.5) have been asking to play with it too.

My son opened this Christmas eve and by noon on the day after it quit functioning. It also goes through batteries fairly quickly. My son loved it but I cannot believe it only lasted 2 days. Then, I couldn't exchange it on Amazon. They said that no others were available but that was wrong. There were others available, just $40.00 more than I spent on it.

How it stopped workingI had it connected to my Mac to add some pictures to it. While syncing it told me error and to restart it. However, it would not restart. It was locked. So I took out the batteries and put them in. I started it up. It went to the Fisher-Price screen and that's it. No further. I decided to use the reset button the back. After that it wouldn't even get to the Fisher-Price screen. Just completely blank.

I got this for my four year old daughter, it was not worth the price or the hassle. The original device I purchased was shoddy and never turned on properly. Fisher-Price is well aware of this problem, its even documented in other reviews here and is not all that uncommon I suspect. They did replace the defective device, but I had to pay the shipping and handling.

When I got the new device, it did turn on properly. However, the software that allows you to transfer information and new games to the device is also shoddy. It commonly crashes and I've been forced to call customer support yet again. My expectation is that this is simply not worth the asking price considering the problems I have had and the unreliability of the device.

We ordered these to use for Science class and experiments. They are exactly as described and seem to measure temperature accurately. I marked these 4 star instead of 5 because they are difficult to use with elementary science students. I've not been able to find easy to read reliable classroom Celsius thermometers for elementary students, particularly the younger ones who are just learning to read the thermometer. We liked being able to count the degrees by ones, but the markings are so close together that it is hard to read.

We thought the price was high for this, but when we read that it lights up to show even more than most globes, we thought it would be worth it. Our children, ages six and eight, have enjoyed discovering new things by using it. We home-school and thought this was a good investment for now and in the future. I think this would be good for anyone with children, as it can be an excellent hands-on learning tool. We have ours sitting in our living room so it's easy to access. Our kids will sit down and study it for fun! We use it as a night light to encourage an interest.

Things that the description did not include and I wanted to know are: 1) When lit up in the daylight one can easily see the things that it shows (ring of fire, underwater creatures, etc.) 2) The light bulb is easy to remove and is just a 'night-light' type of bulb, which can be bought anywhere and is inexpensive.

I purchased this item as a birthday present for my 6 year old nephew. He was really happy with it, expecially because it lights up. I gave it a four instead of a five only because I was a little disappointed in the color. The colors are very light. Would have liked it better if the ocean blues were darker (more vibrant).

This is my daughters favorite toy. She is only two and can name most of the states. I love that it has several modes to search the states by name or landmark etc. Excellent teaching toy.

Teaches basic information about each state and makes it fun. I think that it makes a great gift for 3 and up. My son loves it!

My mom bought this toy when my son turned 2. he has been using it for 8 months now and knows a lot of the states. he loves this toy so much. there are not only states to learn but landmarks as well. i love the colors and different buttons to help with exploring and quizzing. I wish it had the capitols of each state. the voice is clear and there is a volume button on the back which is nice. it does not use up batteries too fast either which is also a plus.

As a Geometry teacher, I am drawing shapes all the time, so this is very helpful. I don't really use it when in class, but it is great to use to make a quiz or test.

First, the skull is not indestructible.

The one I received was damaged out of the box: two cracks and a few chips.

Thankfully, Amazon is great and took care of me.

Second, the skull is very detailed

which was important to me since I would be using it to study for a head and neck exam

On first glance it doesn't appear that all the tiny foramen in the skull base go all the way through...but this isn't a real skull

and at the price point you can't expect to do it all

Third, it's a great presenting piece for enthusiasts or artists.

If you are a student, you won't be disappointed.

I purchased this as an aid for life drawing/anatomy.

The college I've attended has real skulls so I've had a chance to study the real thing and this one seems to be fairly accurate and has enough detail for my needs.

For example, there are representations of the sutures around the skull.

The jaw is removable and the teeth seem fairly realistic.

Inside the eye sockets is the only area where the details are off. The "channels" in the sockets are uniform and not at all accurate when compared with a real skull. On the other hand, I looked at much more expensive (2.5 times more) "museum quality" skull models and they seemed to have the same issue.

I might take a rotary tool to school and carve these channels to make them appear more accurate.

Otherwise the skull feels sturdy and well constructed.

This skull was an affordable option for me and I'm glad to have it.

Like my title says, this product is fantastic and I could not recommend it highly enough if you are looking for a skull for display or study purposes. The plastic is thick and durable and the skull itself is very detailed. Sutures are easily visible and most of the foramen go all the way through. For the price, this product is a wonderful buy.

The skull's missing some of the finer details, but that's OK for my requirements. I don't need a replica that could pass for the real thing; I need a study aid to help me through my skeletal bio class. That's just what I got -and I got it for a price that can't be beat.
