My grandson needed to build a catapult for Social Studies class in six days. No other instructions or directions were given. Thank goodness for Amazon! The kit was shipped and he had it built with a day to spare and he got an A for the project. This is a great catapult kit; very well constructed with nice wood that stained beautifully.

Cheap Midwest Products Land Sea And Air Model Activity Kits - in your
I have two sons who are very interested in knights and castles, as well as the associated weaponry. They wanted to get their father a catapult for his birthday. They worked together on the assembly and then enjoyed using their creation to launch Play-Doh balls across the kitchen. It works! You can really get some distance with this little contraption. As you might imagine, they decided dad needed a trebuchet for Christmas.

We got this as a gift to our 3yo daughter for Valentine's Day. We were thrilled with the concept as described online. We were excited in our initial handling of the toy. There was grave disappointment when we discovered that the lid to the chocolates does not fit snuggly when the chocolates are fully assembled. This is an unfortunate shortcoming of the product and seems an error in design. Also, a few of the "chocolate" pieces look like they are starting to separate. Even so, both of my kids (3, 1) love this toy and it is very educational. As the description of the product indicates, there is a matching componet to the toy as well as a different colors to work on learning colors. These aspects are particularly great for the 1yo. The 3yo LOVES to play with this toy in a role playing manner. She is still regularly annoyed by the non-fitting lid, tho. For example, as she tries to "give" Mommy and Daddy the box of chocolates, if it tips a little too far while she's carrying it, the chocolates fall out. My experience with this product makes me feel reluctant to purchase more products from Learning Resources.
There are different 6 different shapes and 6 different colors for the kids to work with. 2 chocolates come with each shape (but are different in color). What is kinda neat to see is one shape is "light" chocolate and the other is "dark" chocolate.
My daughter took right to this toy and absolutely loves taking out all the pieces, putting them back in, matching the tops to the correct shape very good hand / eye coordination. She doesnt quite get that there are two different types of chocolate (the light vs. dark), but thats okay.
My only flaw with this toy is that the lid the heart lid does not fit onto the heart. It does not stay.. snap.. anything, it just doesnt work. My daughter could care less, but it would be nice to have a cover that actually fit so I can easily put this toy in a toy box or upright to take less room.. but as it is right now, we can only lay it down flat to prevent all the chocolates from falling out the lid is useless.
Overall, excellent toy for a toddler. Highly recommend it.. my daughter loves it!

I don't mind the non-fitting lid, although it is a little aggravating. I was concerned about the weird smell. It does say to wash before use on the box. But why? Why can't it come without that smell? There's no way I would have let my daughter play with it... I soaked and scrubbed the pieces. A little annoying you have to clean a toy before it's ok to use. Other than that, it's super cute, lots of fun, and somewhat educational for a beginner. My daughter loves assembling and reassembling, and placing objects in correct holes, like a puzzle, so it was perfect for her.Honest reviews on Learning Resources - Smart Snacks Hide'N' Peek Chocolates
I received this as a gift for my daughter. Once opened, I was repulsed on how much of that (STRONG) plastic toxic smell was emitted. I then tried to let the chocolates de-gas outside, for about three days. No luck with the toxic smell leaving. I had no choice but to throw it out. HIGHLY disappointed.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Learning Resources - Smart Snacks Hide'N' Peek Chocolates
This toy is cute and unique, and I love how open ended it is. You can use it for pretending, shape sorting, color matching, or even playing a sort of memory game. I found that the lid stays on ours pretty well, so maybe the company worked on this problem. The only reason I took off a star is that some of the chocolates have plastic bubbling where the 2 halves meet, so they don't fit together as snugly as they should. This bugs me, but my kids don't care at all and still love this toy.Tuesday, December 2, 2014
Mudpuppy - Ring Flash Cards French/English Reviews
I actually bought these flashcards because I loved the pictures and the French underneath. I took them off the ring and used 9 of them for artwork in my apartment. Having said that I did give the rest to my sister and we use them with her 3 year old. They seem to be working because she runs around calling her cat "Le Chat" which is adorable. The only complaint I could see is that they're made from cardboard and not really "baby proof". My sister also has a 1 year old who got a hold of them and chewed the corner of a couple and they didn't hold up as well as we would have liked. Overall we loved these cards.

These cards are pretty, and have a good feel to them. I am glad I bought them, however I would prefer if these cards came in sets. For instance, a set of food word cards, clothing word cards, etc. These are nice, but there are just many random words, and I feel there is much more to be desired.Best Deals for Mudpuppy - Ring Flash Cards French/English
I actually thought I had purchased the Spanish set and was shocked when the French arrived in my mailbox (but the return shipping wasn't worth the cost so I kept it). The set has great picture detail and the cards are thick (may not stand up to wetness though). I keep them in my purse or in the car for my daughter to play with and she seems to love naming all the items.Honest reviews on Mudpuppy - Ring Flash Cards French/English
Both of my sons love these flash cards. They love to flip through them and point to the different items. My oldest son even learned some of the French words before the English ones! The only negative is that once they figured out how to open the ring they would do it all the time and it was hard to keep track of all the cards.Saturday, November 22, 2014

Okay, so my 1 year old son was facinated with this piano. But it sounds horrible. I mean Awful. In fact, we were afraid that the sound, which is very and very and VERY off tune, will ruin his musical inclination. I dont mind the chime but its too off tune. So we packed it up and back it goes.
Update....we had twin boys last year. This toy is the first thing the (now) one year-olds want to see when they wake up and run in the play room. They love banging on it and making "music" and the keys are not too loud as to drive everyone crazy. It is apparently sturdy enough to handle the delightful hammering of two small boys. We still love it!

This is a pretty, four-legged piano with helpful color-coded keys. We purchased it as our big "Santa" gift to my daughter for Christmas. It arrived quickly and was extremely easy to put together. My daughter, who is almost 5, was delighted when she saw it and enjoys tinkering on it. I suppose our only complaint is that it does not really sound like a piano. It is definitely a toy and sound like one. Overall, though, we're happy with our purchase.Update....we had twin boys last year. This was absolutely wonderful for my year old nephew! I would not suggest it for children over three, as it is pretty small. The sound is not fantastic (it sounds like a child's xylophone), but isn't annoying like other models. All in all it is a great buy and a wonderful introduction to piano for toddlers.Honest reviews on Melissa & Doug Grand Piano
Last week I bought the baby grand piano for our grandchild. At the store there was one piano in the box, none on display. I paid $138 and all sales were final. I was pleased to see the black finish and the bench was so cute. I was very disappointed to hear the notes, they sound like a "chime" or worse than a kids xylophone. I realize it's not a Steinway but I thought the sound would be better quality. I'm sorry I made this purchase, I wish I could return it.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Melissa & Doug Grand Piano
I was so excited when my son received this as a birthday gift and he loves to sit and bang on it for a few minutes at a time. But when I tried to play some of the songs for him from the Songbook, I couldn't even recognize the songs half the time because the piano is so off key. Particularly the E. I was further disappointed with the songbook because it doesn't feature notes, just large color circles with the letter of the key in the middle that don't quite fit over the staff, so if you are interested in your child learning to read music, this will not be very useful. We are not planning to keep the piano, I'm just looking for a replacement (perhaps a keyboard) so that I can make the switch.Monday, November 17, 2014
Buy VTech Roly Poly Hippo
This is a really great product, and my infant son loves it. He is not yet crawling, so loves the fact that he can make the music and the lights play without anything more complicated than a "bomp". Only thing is that the base is not quite heavy enough or round enough to always maintain upright position as a roly poly should, however can still be activated while not quite upright and my son still played with it. Very worthwhile toy and keeps little one happily playing.

Review of Fellowes Mouse Pad with Microban Antimicrobial Protection, Graphite
For a $5 mousepad, it has everything that I expect. the surface is soft so my hand feels comfortable on it. It has rubber pad on the other side which keeps it from sliding everywhere on the table. I don't know much about the "Microban" stuff regarding antimicrobial issue but it does seem to collect quite some dirt easily. So far I can just use my hand to pat it off.
Tracking:: I'm using Logitech VX revolution mouse (Laser) on it. This mousepad really slow it down quite a bit. (possibly due to the softness of the surface) It is not quite sensitive and precise and require a noticable slight more effort to move the curser around. Please keep in mind that my comparison is between putting the mouse on bare table surface and on this mousepad. I like fast and sensitive mouse but well, I adjust just fine so far.
I chose the silver Fellowes Microban mousepad (model 5934001) for its higher reflectivity. It measures 3/32-in (3mm) thick by 9-in (23cm) wide by 8-in (20cm)deep. The thinness of this pad is useful for fitting over the integrated black mousepad on a keyboard tray. I chose the pricier Microban product because surfaces do get a bit grimy around my workstation.

DO not buy this pad if you have a wood finish surface. I purchased the Microban mouse pad six weeks ago. To my horror when I removed the pad there was a clear outline of the pad in my new $7000 desk Apparently the black non stick-surface of this pad can react with certain wood finishes. I can't recommend this pad unless your desktop is a non wood surface.Best Deals for Fellowes Mouse Pad with Microban Antimicrobial Protection, Graphite

Never used one of these, though I've been mousing for more than 15 years as a profesional illustrator/graphic artist. I had been experiencing jumpy mouse pointer movement with a Logitech MX700 optical mouse and an LX7 laser mouse. Reviews of Quantum Pad: 4th Grade Math Interacative Book and Cartridge
they are good for kids who are trying to keep up in class. they were truly great in their time. i am just sorry that I did not give a review when I bought them. Our 8 year old loves the quantum pad she inherited from her sister, and the new cartridges and books have given her challenges and great pleasure. I got her the higher grades (4th and 5th grade) and am glad I did. The problems and games are great, not too easy, either. Good stuff.

Cheap Can You Imagine Kaleidoscopic
This was sent as a gift to a friend. I liked it so much, I purchased one for myself. I put it on the livingroom coffee table and it interests all who see it, many friends have asked where they could get one for themselves. I have always loved kaleidoscopes and this one is the best I've seen. The colors and patterns are gorgeous. Care should be taken when placing it in the base, and it may be best suited for ages 6 and up. I remove it from the base when viewing it, as I find it a bit awkward viewing it while in the base.

Buy Hasbro i-Dog Snuggly Speaker - Pink
I bought this dog as a replacement because my 3yo daughter's first one malfunctioned. I don't know why it broke but before it did it was a beloved member of the stuffed menagerie on her bed! I bought a cheap mp3 player to go with [the first one] and loaded it with Curious George audio stories and she couldn't be happier. She will listen to them over and over every night at bedtime. My mp3 player could use a sleep feature but that's another story, the dog will shut itself off after a period of inactivity and the batteries last a pretty long time. An older child might get a kick out of the dog's interactiveness but my kids are too young to care about that. The lights respond to the music and are a really neat feature. My only con would be that it isn't really washable, especially because it comes in the trademark iDog white, they can get grubby looking pretty rapidly. Overall, our family is a big fan of the story telling puppy!

This book has some really fun games for preschoolers. My 3-year old LOVES them! The only thing I don't like is that they have to be trimmed on the top, bottom and inside edges in order to make them match up correctly when you paste them to the file folder. Other than that, it is a wonderful home school resource!

LeapFrog Turbo Extreme 2nd Grade Math/Spelling Cartridge Reviews
This has been VERY helpful in teaching my second grader her math facts off of the top of her head. She was still counting on her fingers. This has helped her get out of this habit and she's able to recite more math facts off of the top of her head since she's been "playing" with it. Fabulous, I highly recommend it!!

Earlyears Roll n Swirl Ball Ramp Review
We bought this for our 11 month old son. I put a ball in the top area and he watched it fall with great interest. He was able to put the ball in himself immediately after watching me do it the first time. The item comes in 5 pieces which you just stack on top of one another in whatever color pattern you chose. They come apart easily, so this might become a game my son also enjoys. It comes with 3 balls that have beads inside and jingle. They roll so easy all over carpet and flooring that alone they are super fun, too. I recommend this for ages 9 months and up. A 9 month old may not be able to play with it alone for it's intended purpose, but would certainly enjoy watching an adult put the balls in and watch them fall as well as play with the balls alone. I purchased this specifically because it has no harmful phthalates (phthalate-free). We typically by wooden and other non-toxic toys so I feel really good about this purchase.
This is a great toy, but note that the balls are exactly the 1.75" diameter requirement for children under 3 as specified by the CPSC. My dad, a former CPSC inspector, thought it was too small to give to my 10 month old baby.
I will be putting this toy away, especially after reading the post about someone's child who got the ball lodged in his mouth.

I ordered the Earlyears Busy Ball Drop and received an "Earlyears" Busy Ball Drop. The toy I received had only four tiers, instead of the advertised five. The balls were two lightweight, hollow, cheap plastic balls with nothing inside them, not the three "heavy duty" acrylic balls with spiral design and rattles inside. The printed box was clearly labeled "Playgo Toys", and the original UPC bar code had been covered up with another bar code sticker with "Earlyears Busy Ball Drop" printed on it. The toy wasn't worth $10, let alone the $19.99 I paid for it, and has already been returned for a refund. I am disappointed to have received an inferior knockoff, and also surprised, since the order was fulfilled by Amazon. Amazon, what happened? (Updated: Seller was Kandycares)Best Deals for Earlyears Roll n Swirl Ball Ramp
Please do not buy this product! The balls to this product are big enough not to go down a child's throat, but small enough to fit the whole ball in their mouth...barely. Within 5 min my 9 mo old had the entire ball shoved in his mouth and could not get it out. It was in so tight I couldn't get my finger in to get it out. Tongue was pushed back into his throat and I had to push on the ball on the outside of his cheeks (very hard) to get it out. It hit his gums on the way out and he screamed like crazy. Even though this could not go down his throat, it could've very well blocked his airway and caused him not be able to breathe. I will be reporting this to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, but PLEASE do not buy this product...it was a terrible scare to have happen on Christmas morning!Honest reviews on Earlyears Roll n Swirl Ball Ramp

Discount Ryan's Room Wooden Toys Block Party
As I was saying, this is a great toy for teaching a Child the alphabet, Uppercase and lowercase letters and also for teaching them some pictures of some common things in life. It's also very interesting and a good idea that they have certain sides of the blocks which are textured so that the child can also feel Feel the letters Instead of only seeing what a picture of the letter looks like on the blocks. The blocks also come with 10 extra letters, which makes it easy for creating words Instead of only using only the basic 26 blocks.I did not read the description well enough the first time to realize that it included these... I was very pleasantly surprised :-)

These blocks rock. I bought them for my 10-month old and while she doesn't pay too much attention yet to the letting and pictures, she loves to bang them together and throw them around. The only thing about them that I noticed is their smell. They have a very new wooden scent to them that I'm sure will go away in time. It's not offensive at all and still would not deter me from purchasing more of these. I'm very satisfied with these blocks.Best Deals for Ryan's Room Wooden Toys Block Party
I would not recommend this product for a child who likes to chew on things. My son who is 10 months chewed a chunk off of the block. He has played with them for awhile but now has 4 teeth and chews on everything. Thankfully I was with him otherwise he would have swallowed the wood which could have lead to a serious problem.Honest reviews on Ryan's Room Wooden Toys Block Party
These wooden blocks are just what I was looking for. The are larger than your standard block so they stack easily, but my daughter's small hands can still grab them easily. The edges are smooth. My daughter has been playing with them for a while and no signs of splintering on the blocks. The quality is excellent! This set of blocks is a bargain!
