We purchased game for our 3 1/2 year old granddaughter for Christmas along with the Vtech VReader. This game is fun, educational and interactive. Bright vivid display holds roaming attention spans. The level of difficutly increases after each level is mastered. Definitely recommended.

Overview (from the parent guide): Math Baseball supports number-fact drills through 12 in each of the following operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Players select the correct answer to flash card-like equations that appear on the screen. By choosing the right answer from two answer choices as quickly as they can, players advance the game. If they click on an incorrect answer, however, their team loses the play. It's a fast-paced game that increases in speed and difficulty as players answer questions correctly and slows down with easier problems if they answer incorrectly to allow more time for mental computation. The faster they solve equations, the faster and farther the ball travels. If players answer too slowly, the opposing team might catch their ball but if they answer quickly, players can hit a single, double, triple, or even a home run!

I hesitated in purchasing this game for my 4 year old daughter because it seemed to be geared more toward elementary grades. Much of it is too difficult for her, but there is one area where she has fun. The T-ball section doesn't operate on a timer so she can take as long as she needs to count baseballs or figure out easy addition or subtraction problems.

I had my 11 year old son try this cartridge to see if he thought the rest of the game was fun (even if it was too easy for him). He had fun for a little while, but after a few innings and a score of 40-0 he became bored. It also didn't take him long to realize that there are only 2 choices for answers and he has a 50/50 chance of getting the right answer without even looking at the math question.

The only real negative item that I saw with this program for children in the recommended age range is that it only saves one team and one game created by the user. If you have more than one child using this cartridge, they will be overwriting each other's saved games and teams.

Overall, I think this cartridge is a fun way for children to memorize their math tables.

My first grade son loves his Leapster and every other cartridge that he owns but he just doesn't like this one. I was hoping that Math Baseball would be a fun way for him to practice his beginning math skills but it hasn't turned out that way. The way the rules are re-explained is annoying for both him and me and even when you answer a problem correctly it doesn't insure that you won't hit a pop up that is caught or pitch a ball that gets hit. I guess thats the way the real world works but my son found it disillusioning and it only further contributed to his lack of interest in this game. My kid loves to learn. He loves to read. He loves to draw. We make up math games at home. I am always looking for a way to keep him stimulated but also encourage him to have a little fun. This game just didn't do it for him.

This game is pretty brilliant. It has addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. You first choose if you want a combination or just one. Then you can choose practice or a real game. It works with kids just learning and really challenges those who want to get faster. If your up to bat the faster you answer the question determines how good you hit the ball. You answer really fast you might just hit a home run, and it you miss, then of course you strick out. When your playing out field, you determine how fast you get the other team out by how fast you answer the questions. It's very fun, and easy to learn. I didn't like how they reexplained things every time you change from out field to infield or started a new game, but then we found that if you hit I think it's the home key then you can pass that up, and your fun doesn't get interupted. I think it should also be known that this game is plenty of fun for kids from ages 6-11, and even longer if your kid just needs to strengthen their speed of their math, which coming from a High school math teacher is very important in Junior High and High School math.

This is my 6 year olds favorite Leapster Game (and we have a LOT of them). It's a great tool for teaching them their basic math skills while having fun playing at the same time. I have a 4 year old that also owns a Leapster and this is the game that gets fought over the most because they both want to play it at the same time. I definately recommend it for a parent looking to get their baseball fan started learning math.

I bought this for my 7 year old second grader. He loves baseball, and really liked the feature that enabled him to set up his team. My favorite part is that for one of the games you hit the ball farther the faster you answer the question (his school is big on how quickly they can answer basic addition/subtraction facts). His sister (age 4) can also play the game on it's easiest level.

After hearing reports of other products having issues with broken slides, poor samples, etc. I was hoping this would be better. Indeed it is way beyond my expectations...no broken slides, everyone is a very well prepared AND mounted specimen. I did have to take a blower brush to a couple to remove some dust but not a big deal. Box is nice and slides fit well...and they were already in their correct slots...not mixed up. I didn't find any blah slides..in fact many are outstanding and lots of fun to study and view the intricate and beautiful detail. Spent an enjoyable couple of days going through all 100 of them and photographing my favorites. I also noticed they didn't try the easy way out of slippping in a bunch of easy for them, non-interesting to us specimens. There are a couple but even they are OK.

So final recommendation....excellent choice for a sample collection that covers a wide range of fields.

While you can certainly prepare your own slides (and we have), it's hard to get them quite as thin as needed to limit as much detail as possible to a single focal plane... basically this means if you just throw stuff on a blank slide, it's hard to get much of it in focus, as the microscope wants to focus on as narrow a plane as possible.

Obviously, it's not an issue with prepared slides; more, there are some pretty interesting choices, though don't expect a wide spectrum of colors from this set. Many are limited to a small pallette (lots of red) but structurally there is a lot of variation.

Glad we purchased.

The slides are very nice, but the box is not "fine crafted." One of the slide columns is too wide so none of the slides on that side stay in the slots. If I could get a new box, I'd be happy.

We got these for a camping trip and they were a big hit with our kids! I like that the light only has the two simple on/off functions, rather than flashing as well (which drives me crazy). The elastic on the headlights were a bit big for being headlamps for kids, but if adjusted as far as they could go they fit the heads of our 3 & 4 yr olds just fine. Worth the price for sure!

We ordered two of these kits for 7-9 year olds as a first rocketry project. We chose this particular kit for a few reasons: It uses a full size standard engine (A-C), not the half engines. It uses traditional building techniques utilizing white glue, not snap together plastic parts. The fin assembly is a single peice molded plastic. The rocket is completely white, allowing our scouts to decorate them with Sharpie Markers.

The kit may be a little hard for a large group of kids ages 7-9. Adults prebuilt the engine blocks and attached the launch lugs before giving them to the kids. The rest was right on the money.

The parts of this kit are high quality. Kudos to Estes.

I did read the prior reviews, but I'm a sucker for cute wooden toys and I figured they couldn't be *that* small. Well, they are. They'll be outgrown by your baby pretty fast. To give you an idea, everything easily fits in the palm of my hand and the stick is about the size and width of a fat pen. If I'd seen them at a store I would have passed unless they were a lot cheaper. I give the product 3 stars because they're cute and seem well made, but I'm just not happy about what you get for the money.

LeapFrog LeapReader Interactive Talking Words Factory Flash Cards Reviews

First, your child should probably be beginning to read, know most of the alphabet and each letter's sounds probably around kindergartento benefit from this, at least if you want them to play by themselves.

The cards are 5"x 3.5" in size.

There are six green stars that represent the varying games and here are what they represent:

NAME JAMMER this is just for fun. Pick a letter and the game will grant you a silly name for the duration. G = Groovy Grasshopper and so forth.

WORD 5: Pick a beginning sound. So I pick an 'S' and it tells me to find an ending sound to make the word 'sun." I find the card 'un' and the game sounds out the word 'sun.' for me. Then it tells me to find more. I pick the card 'it' and it tells me I made the word sit and to find more words that start with S. If you pick a wrong combo, such as 'ig' which would make 'sig' it will tell you to try again. This exercise is timed and at the end, it tallies up your successes.

There is an additional fold out that has examples of words. Example: there is a bold 'G' with the words gap, get and got underneath it. It is a reference card to help with putting words together.

RHYME TIME: Choose an ending sound like 'ip' then the game will tell you to find the beginning sound 'zzzz' to make the word zip. I find 'z' and it sounds out zip. It then tells me to find 4 more beginning sounds to make more rhyming words.

WORD FUSER = It states find the beginning and ending sounds 'h' and 'ug.' There are a lot of cards, so for a kid to go 'hhhh' and find letter 'h' and the the sound 'uuu' and 'ggg' on the 'ug' card. Good game, but my child ran out of time. So this game for when his skills have improved.

DJ WORD touch a beginning sound. I picked 'r.' Now I have to find an ending card that will make a word that starts with 'rrr.' I picked 'id.' It now sounds out the word 'rid' for me and informs me I made a word, groovy grasshopper.

TUNE TIME (didn't like this one). Pick a beginning sound. I picked 'b' which has a picture of a bat and and bed. It tells me to choose a picture. I pick bat and it sings a short goofy song that after one time, wants me to sing along with it. Annoying to me trying to be all cute, but kids may like it and it helps with phonics skills.

Overall pretty good. The cards are fairly thick and sturdy. The cards incorporate learning letters and phonics, as well as utilize those skills to make words. The colors and design are attractive. It gives verbal instruction, but also allows the player independence to make words on their own. I like also the fold out with the words written on it, so the kids have something to refer to. The cards are color coded as end sounds have an orange border and beginning sounds are either purple or green. Not sure why though, the beginning sounds edging are two colors? The backs of each of the cards have the alphabet written on them that make fun phonetic sounds when selected.

Things I would change:

Perhaps make the cards a wee bit smaller. This takes up quite a bit of room and is somewhat difficult to put all the cards within arm's reach of a smaller child. My six year old had to keep getting off his chair to reach the cards he wanted, and this didn't help much with the 'timed' game.

How about some written instructions for parents.

Why are the beginning sounds edges purple(7) or green (12).

The fold out with the words has most of the word combos you could make, but not ALL the available combos. Under letter 'Y' it only has 'yet.' What about yip, and yap? There is still room available on the foldout?

I'm glad I bought this and my 6 year old seems to like it, though he still needs some help. He is adopted from another country and has lived here less than a year, so I am also using it to improve his ESL skills. I like that it incorporates, sound, sight and doing to learn, which is great.

We are huge Tag fans at our house but this was a complete disappointment. It is impossible to play without spreading all the cards out on the floor around your child, and even then, the games are very slow moving because it takes a while for the child to locate the beginning/ending sounds that are called for. Additionally, there is a lot of "talking" from the Tag pen in between activities that is a real drag. I would not recommend this at all for a Pre-K or Kdgn child. It required WAY too much patience, even for and adult! Stick to the books with activities at the end. They are much more effective. This is a waste of money for use with the Tag pen. We do spend more time just playing with the cards and building words on our own. If you want a fun game for building words with your child, get the Sound Hounds game! My kids (aged 3, 4, & 5) love that game.

It is a beautiful little toy, my 5 month old doesnt play with it too much yet although she likes it, because she needs to use both hands to hold it and make it shake. We bought this for our 2 1/2 y.o. as she inherited her older sister's V.Smile console. It's uncomplicated enough that she knows what she has to do, although from what I've seen, the main objective is for Wubbzy to collect bouncing balls. There is a bit of problem-solving required, nothing difficult, but just right for her age. There are breaks in between where Wubbzy has to choose the right shapes/colours, but so far, that seems to be the extent of the educational aspect I've seen. Mind you, we've only had the game about a week, and we haven't had a chance to fully explore it; my comments are based on MY personal usage of the game. Overall, my daughter enjoys playing it.

I bought this VTech V. Smile Smartridge "Wow Wow Wubbzy" as a Christmas present for my 3 yr. old grandson, Andrew. We got him the VTech game system to use in the car. This game is his favorite and he plays it more than any other cartridge. The game has clear video and sound. The game delights him with what it does, but it has features and educational components that will still interest him as he grows. I read reviews on this product before purchasing but the biggest factor was that it had the characters and songs from the TV show. This is one of Andrew's favorite shows and it holds his attention. The game system and cartridge is durable and travels well.
