We purchased this Green Science kit for our nine-year-old son for Christmas. He was able to put it together by himself and it has held up to the rough handling of a child. He is still just as fascinated with it and is constantly experimenting with ways to use the 'torch', including reading under the covers after lights out. We are so pleased with the product that we have ordered several different kits for his upcoming birthday.

Discount 4M Dynamo Torch
We purchased this toy for our 8 year old son. He loved it. Once the christmas festivities was over, this was the first toy he wanted to play with and construct. It took barely 15 minutes to work with him to put it together and then he played with it for days. It really got him asking questions about how it works, etc... and he even observed that with the cover it come with it projects light, but if you use a soda plastic bottle as the cover, it projects a brighter, larger light. It still has him asking questions, and he keeps it on his bed side as his emergency go to flashlight. Well-made and safe. A great purchase!

LeapFrog LeapReader Junior Book: Sesame Street Cookie Monster's Review
There is a lot going on in this Tag Jr. book. The only disappointing thing is that the entire book is in Cookie Monster's voice. This is not the best choice if you are trying to teach diction or clear enunciation. My daughter loves it though.
Overall, a great addition to your Tag Junior library.

This was the first interactive reader we received for my daughter and she enjoys it. She started at only 13 months old with this book, but enjoys hearing the reader count and meeting all the characters.Honest reviews on LeapFrog LeapReader Junior Book: Sesame Street Cookie Monster's
My son is two and he really likes this book. I've noticed that since we got it, he can recognize numbers by name in other books and puzzles. I don't have a problem with the Cookie Monster voice like some of the other reviewers. The text in the book is not read by Cookie Monster, he just describes the pictures.Overall, a great addition to your Tag Junior library.

My son got this for his first birthday and after 2 months he is still playing with it. It did take him awhile to figure out how to push it forward, he initially just banged it into the ground, but now he pushes it, drags it, etc and the toy is withstanding the abuse of my crazy 14 month old. I am so happy with this purchase!

My son turned 1 just before Christmas and received this as a gift. It has been less than 2 weeks and we have had to glue the little handle onto the stick as wouldn't stay put and it could be a choking hazard. Also the design allows for the kangaroo's head to come off so be prepared to find it and put it back on daily. It is cute though and easier on the ears than the corn popper toy. I would have returned it but my little guy really likes it so it stays. This is my first review... Just thought folks should be aware of the handle issue.

Buy The Wiggles Singing Wiggles Guitar
This was purchased as a gift for a 3 year old boy who loves The Wiggles. The guitar comes ready to go strait out of the box! You can sing along with the songs already programmed into the guitar. The guitar itself is pretty much indestructible. A very important thing to be with 3 year olds. I was a little disappointed when I was playing with it, the volume on it did not appear to work, but the boy's mom didn't seem to mind. So it makes for lots of good noise and good fun! The Wiggles Singing Guitar goes everywhere that the boy goes!

This was a gift for my grand-nephew's 2nd birthday. His mom reports that it is his favorite gift and he plays with it every day. I'm not sure how many of these in the original packaging are still around, but this was the only one I could find, which probably explains the high price I paid. Over all, it was worth it to get a gift that truly pleased the little guy!! Go ahead a buy this used if you don't need the fancy packaging and just want a ton of fun for a little one.Best Deals for The Wiggles Singing Wiggles Guitar
All though it's a little heavy for a toddler, my 18m old boy loves it. Loaded with all the classic song from the shows, and neat little sound bites and effects. It's tough finding wiggles items since they are aging and becoming a thing of the past. If ur a collector it's a must have, and it's fun to watch ur kids break out into dance with the push of a button. Plus it was cheap, being used and still arrived early and in excellent condition.Honest reviews on The Wiggles Singing Wiggles Guitar
I bought this for my grandson's birthday because he loves to watch and listen to the Wiggles. A new one was way over my budget, but I checked out the used ones and picked one according to Amazon's recommendations. It even came with batteries! I have watched this baby's (age 2) expression as he "plays" it and sings along, and the purchase was well worth the money!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for The Wiggles Singing Wiggles Guitar

Reviews of LeapFrog Easy Reader Phonics Kit 1
While my son enjoyed the illustrations anf fun content of the books in this set, I felt it was disappointing as a learning tool for beginning readers because it moves much too quickly. The first book is just letters and letter sounds. Very introductory. The second book introduces three letter words right off with no transition at all like 2 letter blends. That was ok to me since it was phonetic 3 letter words, but by page 2 we were already "leaping" to 4 and 5 letter words and by page 3 they were already introducing a sight word "does" and a double consonant word "cannot". I thought the pace was frustrating for my son. I was hoping/expecting a book devoted to just blends and/or 3 letter words. Instead this program is organized by vowels with the letter a being introduced first. I don't see that as a problem, but I was expecting more phonetic 3 letter words to start and introducing harder 4 and 5 letter words by maybe book 3 and sight words coming later, like maybe book 4. Unfortunately, you can't see exactly what your getting until you open the box.
Nonetheless, the audio is entertaining for children with music and humor thrown in and the reward stickers, poster, and ribbon are a fun way to recognize your child's achievement. The practice game is basically just like the Word Whammer Fridge Phonics product but with cards instead of magnets.

My five year old is in Kindergarten this year, and I have gotten very frustrated because I just don't know how to teach him anything! I am an internal learner, and mostly learned how to read from watching Sesame Street as a child. So, I was pretty desperate for some help. I purchased the whole "Learn to Read" Kit, which includes Phonics kits 1-3, plus the Read & Write Leappad. We've just started the first kit, and my son is extremely excited about the sticker chart, and he really wants to earn the ribbon that they provide. It says "I Can Read". I agree with the review that states it is very fast moving. I was hoping for a bit more in the connecting sounds to create words area. My son has listening issues and has a learning delay and he's responding very well, but it's also very frustrating for him. The main issues that I'm having with this is how difficult it is to decipher the sounds at times from the little electronic speaker. It's difficult to tell the difference between "f" and "s" for example. The other big issue is that when playing a game where my son was supposed to listen to the letter sounds and figure out what word they were spelling, it kept saying everything started with "C"! It was confusing for him. It would clearly say "errr" "aaa" "ttt" (Rat) and then say it began with "C" or "sss" "lll" "aaa" "mmm" (Slam) and then say it began with "C"! he kept hitting "Cat" and then it would tell him he was wrong. He wouldn't believe *Me* that the machine was wrong, because they never lie *headdesk* However, for its purpose of giving ME the tools to better teach my child, it deserves four stars.Best Deals for LeapFrog Easy Reader Phonics Kit 1
I bought this also along with kit 2 and kit 3.. while they do move a bit quickly, these books, kits, are suppose to help give the child an idea of what "they" are and how the sound. These books and kits are MEANT to be used with a REAL person, and to reinforce what they are being taught, they are NOT meant to teach the child every thing there is to learn! A teacher or parent should be teaching these things in full to begin with and the books and kits to be used as a tool, or as a back up to help the child as a reniforcement. If you use them correctly they are a wonderful tool for any child! Ho and if you buy one kit you really should buy all three of them because the three together are a wonderfull addition to school work, practice, learing, reniforcement of what is being taught.Sarah
Honest reviews on LeapFrog Easy Reader Phonics Kit 1
My children love their leappads and I love the fact that they are continuing to expose themselves to reading even when I'm not supervising them. These phonics kits contain cute stories that help reinforce the concepts that I try to introduce. I don't believe that this kit will teach them phonics on it's own but I love them anyways. As with all leappad books, I wish they were a little sturdier as the pages can get caught on the pen when littles are turning them, causing rips and tears.Wednesday, September 17, 2014
Buy Amazing Animals Push & Pull Lion
This goes along great with the rest of the Amazing Animals set and the Sing & Go ChooChoo set. The lion is really cute and my son (12 months) loves the main that can be twisted for fun clicking sounds. My son also loves to make the little monkey that attached to the cart spin around and around! Highly recommend getting this toy if you have any of the other Amazing Animals, they go so great together!
IMO it was a waste of money, it didn't have any longevity. Oh well, it was a gift.

Cheap Elementary Owl Pellet Pack
Okay guys, you think that this is a funny item but in real life it is fastinating. My husband teaches 4th grade ad each year they make a trip to the Owl Barn at nearby Elkhorn Slough. Each child is given a Owl Pellet to dissect and they love it. All these kids come from higher middle class homes and have all the electronic equipment, expensive ski trips and vacations but have rarely if ever handle real nature. These pellets are filled with a rich history of the day in the life of an owl and as each child dissects their pellet, they reassemble the bones, skulls, etc (now stripped sterile and clean by the function of the owls gut) . It is wonderful and educating and really helps the kids learn about nature in a real and fun way. So some of you may think its gross or stupid or ecologically questionable but it's Biology !)! plan and simple. Owl poo rocks!I ordered the Owl Pellets as part of an after school enrichment program. I was doing a unit on owls. The owl pellets were great! My kids loved dissecting the dried pellet to try to determine the type of animal ingested by the owl. As part of the unit, I had my students create art by making an owl, listen to a book about owls as predators, and then dissect the pellet. They were fascinated! I can definitely recommend this product.

Review of LeapFrog Magnet Zoo Animal Playset
After the success and durability of the barnyard animals and vehicles mix and match toys, you'd think Leapfrog would have stuck with a good thing. But, no. They decided to make the pictures on the zoo animal pieces stickers instead of being painted. A few weeks of a toddler mouthing these pieces and the stickers peel. Both of my girls adored the farm animals one. What a disappointment.

This toy is fantastic, just like the other leap from fridge toys, my one year loves this. The only problem is that the animal pieces have stickers on them that portray each animal. About 24 hours after putting this toy on my fridge, my daughter had already destroyed two of the animals. As soon as she started mouthing the pieces, the stickers started coming off. In other versions of this toy (the Farm for example), the pieces are molded and painted to look like each animal, and they last forever. This version (zoo), is of much lower quality and much easier to destroy. I wouldn't recomend this toy for any child that puts things in thier mouth (which in my experience is all of them)Best Deals for LeapFrog Magnet Zoo Animal Playset
This is a great toy, however, I don't recommend giving it to babies who like to chew on everything. The paper on the front of the animal pieces comes off very easily. I don't know why this product was produced with paper on the front, knowing that babies like to chew. I would recommend the leap frog barnyard because those pieces are made without paper.Honest reviews on LeapFrog Magnet Zoo Animal Playset
As other have said, the animal pieces on this toy are stickers. They do not hold up well. My 18 month old loves the fridge farm and fridge phonics. I thought this would be fun for her. She does chew on the toys and I had hoped that the stickers would be slightly water proof or resistant. Nope. The animal pieces were destroyed in a day. Save your money on this one and buy the fridge farm or wash n' go vehicle magnet sets.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for LeapFrog Magnet Zoo Animal Playset

Review of Thames and Kosmos Alternative Energy and Environmental Science
My 11 year old son is very into putting things together so I got this power house for him so he could build and learn at the same time. He was very careful with the pieces (they're made of styrofoam). I would say a younger kid may have trouble with the durability but it's been perfect for him. He has learned a lot.
The box contains about $20 worth of parts (being generous here). The manual is very spotty about how to construct things (some instructions are sufficient but some are quite vague). In many cases you have to hunt to find any sort of details on how to put pieces together. And many of the experiments require materials not in the box. For example, the manual details how to build a working solar oven but as far as I can tell you have to build it completely from materials you scrounge around the house (cardboard, aluminum foil, small pieces of wood, etc.). I think it is a great idea but why did I buy an $80 kit to conduct a scavenger hunt for all the materials.
I think I understand what the authors had in mind and in many ways it is a grand idea. I think the idea was to give kids the more specialized parts and some guidance but don't spell out every little thing so they have to do some thinking for themselves. And for some kids this appears to work. But in my experience you have to get kids a little bit hooked with something more specific before they will take off. I don't think this succeeds in the way the authors intended. And I understand that the authors expected adults to help kids on some of this but I don't think that is enough to make this work.
In many ways this would have been better as a book parts of the manual are excellent in the way they cover the topic it just does not work as a kit.
I would be very interested hearing from kids about their experience.

Do not expect to open the box and build the house you see on the cover. The good news is they will show you how to put the walls and roof together right away. The house is made of styrofoam. It fits together OK but you could not call it sturdy. Everything else ends up being part of a series of experiments, but you never end up with the house you see on the box because you are always cannibalizing part of what you have built for the next experiment. The box contains about $20 worth of parts (being generous here). Reviews of Trophy 3470 Musical Spoons
I am teaching all of my children to play something as part of their musical education. I let each kid choose what they want to learn to play. I was getting these for my 12yr old daughter who wanted to learn to play spoons. Bad idea. We ended up not using them because they are so bad. These things are VERY cheaply made. The metal is very thin & weak and bends way too easily. They also sound tinny, weak and pathetic. If you are looking for a kid's toy, these might be fun for a toddler or something, but probably not.
After seeing how bad these are, I searched Youtube for "Spoons" and found some great tutorials on how to use regular old kitchen spoons. Regular kitchen spoons are solidly made, sound great, are very easy to hold, easy to learn to play and cost nothing. If you don't want to beat up your good stuff, go to the store and buy 2 spoons for $1. The difference in sound is very noticable. These Trophy things sound horrible, are hard to play, and really aren't worth buying. We have found that playing real spoons is enjoyable for kids/adults of any age. Trying to play these is not fun at all, and can be downright frustrating trying to get them to work like real spoons, they just don't compare.
The point is, if you want to use these as a rhythm instrument, or for elementary education, and not just as a toy, don't use these. Put in the extra 2minutes for a youtube search and see the difference real spoons make and then just use those.

Spoon playing has been around for generations. Here is a fun product, reasonably priced, and fun to play. I highly recommend them. Another great Plan toy that will survive a baby boy.
(The "slices" come apart, and need to be placed together again in the correct shape. My ONLY concern is that the rubber band like center may snap on small fingers...though that hasn't happened to me.)
My only complaint is that the end piece is really hard for a toddler to get on, and so she can't complete the sheep completely by herself. I would imagine that this part would be too hard even for a three-year-old.

I really like this toy. It's just challenging enough for my two-and-a-half year old. She can thread the circles on by herself, and she likes the cute sheep that it makes. You can fit them on in any order. For more of an educational slant, sometimes we try to actually do the circles in the order they're supposed to go in, in rainbow order (there are little color coded dots on each circle) if we are doing it together, but she can still play with it by herself. My only complaint is that the end piece is really hard for a toddler to get on, and so she can't complete the sheep completely by herself. We purchased this toy as a gift for our two year old daughter this Christmas. It's rather engaging to put together, and absolutely adorable once it's assembled. It also looks great on her dresser as a darling little sculpture piece!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for PlanToys Lacing Sheep
We homeschool our three children. I really like the Montessori method, but finding well made Montessori learning toys that are afordable is not an easy task! This toy was made in Thailand. Finding a toy that is not made in China is so difficult these days! Plan Toys are the best, they are affordable, so well made that they can be handed down, made Eco friendly, and not made in China. Who could ask for more!
