I bought this game for my six year old daughter's birthday in hopes that all the children (4,6,10)would play together and that the grownups could play too without completely zoning out. It has far exceeded my expectations! The kids really enjoy it. My ten year old son says he loves "the imaginative spirit about it, and it's just a really fun game for everybody." We've taken it to gatherings and not only do the girls like it, the boys really like it, too. The girls say it's fun because they get to "save the princess!" And the grownups wherever we go get interested and start playing, too! It promotes cooperative play, not competitive, and you get really creative about the ways to use the resources you have (a firefly, a candle, a horse!) to solve the obstacles facing you. Another plus is that the game pieces have the French words as well as the English, so we've had some fun with that as well. The greatest fun for this homeschooling mom is watching my three kids laugh together, imagine together, and work together towards a common empowering goal. This game is creating wonderful memories for our family and friends. I highly recommend it!

This game is awesome. It is so simple that my 5yo and 3yo can play it together alone. It is highly imaginative and inspires a lot of creativity the stuff my kids have come up with trying to save that princess has been hilarious and also demonstrates some really great problem-solving. There is no one winner we either all win or all lose, which is great for eliminating fighting. In short, the kids love it, I love it, and they don't need me to play it, which if you are a mom you know is priceless. #winning

Our girls (ages 4-7) were first introduced to this game about a month ago while playing with a friend. We've been having issues with our younger daughter not handling board games well with some of the more traditional games (Candyland, Shutes & Ladders) for her age, and those games have ceased to be entertaining for our older daughter (or me!). Anyway, Princess has been a great way for the girls (and their friends) to play cooperatively and it is gratifying to see them work together to rescue the princess. Our youngest easily handles the disappointment of not saving the princess every game since it's a collective loss. Bye-bye tears and grumpiness. Hello family time, fun, and creativity. We also bought Max for Christmas since we've been impressed at how well the cooperative games work for our family. That game has more to do with odds/strategy, whereas Princess involves creatively using the pieces in addition to chance. Also, with Max, not necessarily all the critters are saved/eaten, but for the Princess, she is either rescued or not. Both girls like each game and often we play 2-3 rounds of one game, then switch to the other. It is more fun with 2-4 kids and having a parent "help" with the game rules the first few times definitely helps transition the kids so they can play it without an adult. I think older (9 yrs +) kids might get bored playing Princess with same aged peers, but having a mixed age group (of any age) keeps the interest level since every age level seems to have a different perspective on how to creatively rescue the princess. In any case, it is a nice way to have older siblings play with their younger siblings without all the drama.

Honest reviews on Family Pastimes / Princess - A Co-operative Game

I had this game as a young child myself and loved to play it with my friends. It is a great teambuilding game and the difficulty can be easily adjusted to meet the needs and ages of the players. Recently, I brought it with me to play with some kids that I babysit. I adapted the rules and successfully played the game with a 3 year old. She loves it!! This year for Christmas, I bought the game for her and her sister. She is 5 and her sister is 3. They both love it! The 5 year old remembers all of the extra fun things we added in:

During the game, the players have to confront various challenges to help rescue the princess and make group decisions. One of the challenges is to cross water to get to the castle. We chose to use the rowboat to get across. Instead of simply playing the card, we put the card down and added in rowing actions. Similarly, when we got to the guard, we added dialogue for him. These are just little fun tidbits I have added to help make the game more fun/sometimes easier for the younger kids. It is amazing what they remember over a period of 3+ months of not playing the game.

Overall, the game is a great problem solving, team building, choice making game. Great for all ages to play together!!

The company that makes the game, also makes lots of other cooperative team games. They are all awesome and all very fun to play. They are really different because they are not your typical competitive winner/loser games. These are games where everyone is a winner and there are natural problems that need to be solved. Great selection of games!!

I bought this to keep my 5-year old daughter occupied on days when the weather is bad and I have never seen her so absorbed in a board game. She wanted to play it all weekend long, and even when I was cooking dinner and couldn't play with her, she played by herself, taking turns for both of us. Now that's a good game! It is fairly easy to win every time, as one reviewer points out. But sometimes the win is easy and straightforward, and sometimes you scrape by just before dark falls; either way the game teaches cooperation because all parties have to agree on how to overcome the obstacles. i must say, it made for much more enjoyable playtime and bonding to have the game end with a joint celebration of "we won, we won, we won!" rather than having a winner and a loser.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program Short version:

The good: The pen is amazing, a real marvel of teaching technology. The kids like it.

The bad: It's the most techno-savvy leapfrog product yet. The pen needs to be connected to the computer a lot as your child learns. Not only do you have to "download" the books onto the pen, but there is a feedback loop where the child earns rewards. Most of the "rewards" require printer paper and ink. I wish you could turn off the pen's requests to be plugged back into the computer, but you can't.

Should you buy it:

If you are used to performing regular "maintenance" with your ipod, and you don't mind that, then definitely buy it.

If you don't like maintainin computers (firmware upgrades, syncing, troubleshooting, etc) then consider very carefully before buying.

Don't get this as a gift for a person who either doesn't have a computer, or has a relic of a computer that they never use.

Long version:

I have owned a lot of leapfrog toys. This is the first one I've used which is very similar to owning an ipod.

Upon receiving this product, the pen comes with a demo book. The demo book works out of the box, of course. The technology itself is cool, there is a little camera underneath the pen point and it can "see" where you are on the page. Touching the pen to the page makes the pen announce whatever is in that location. You can switch "modes" by touching in the corner of the book. For example, you can switch to "play a game" or you can "read".

The demo book is fine for maybe a couple hours play, but it doesn't have enough play value for you to be satisfied with the demo book alone. You're going to have to buy more books, which you expect if you have some experience with these leapfrog devices.

So I bought several books to test this out with. They included: LeapFrog Tag Activity Storybook I SPY Imagine That!, LeapFrog Tag Learn to Read Phonics Book Series Short Vowels, and LeapFrog Tag Learn to Read Phonics Book Series Long Vowels, Silent E and Y. I waited to post my review until those items arrived.

It was only after I received these books that I realized what it was like to use this product. Here is my journey, in steps:

STEP 1: I had to install Leapfrog software on my computer. And each time you buy a book you have use your computer to "install" that book on the pen. You can't go to a store and pick up a Leapfrog book and use it right away. You either have to download the audio ahead of time (more on that in a minute) or come home and download it after you buy the book. This IS NOT a cartridge system, like many previous leapfrog products.

STEP 2: I had to set up a leapfrog, com ACCOUNT with a username and password. I didn't appreciate the need to set up an account. I am receiving occasional rare email solicitations from Leapfrog now, even though I indicated that I didn't want any emails.

STEP 3: I had to set up each CHILD in the account. You do this to track their progress. I actually don't care about that very much, and I would have appreciated an opt-out on that feature. So each child has a little account of their own.

STEP 4: After I installed the software I plugged the pen into my computer with a USB cable.

STEP 5: Then I had to update the software on the pen. (Thats "firmware" to us geeks). Thats right, Leapfrog felt the need to change the software that makes the pen work between the time the pen was made and the time you bought it. So bringing the pen "up to date" is your responsibility.

STEP 6: Then I had to find the books I bought (one at a time, even though they aren't sold separately) for download from leapfrog's website. You can download every book they have, even if you don't own the paper version of the book. You could download the audio for a book, and then go to the store and buy the paper version, and then use the paper book immediately. This was kind of nice if you are planning ahead.

I hope you see what i'm saying to use any book you need to have (1) a paper book and (2) a digital download for that same paper book which you got on your computer. If you only have one or the other, you can't use that book.

STEP 7: Next I had to use the computer program to move the books I wanted to use onto the pen. This is called "synchronizing". Fortunately, all 12 fit on the pen at one time. You'd have to buy a lot of books before you filled up the pen (maybe 20?).

STEP 8: I had to hit a button telling it to Sync.

STEP 9: Then I unplugged the unit to let my child play with it.

STEP 10: (the unexpected step!) The toy instructs my child that she has won a reward! And to plug it back into the computer to claim the reward! The reward is a color bookmark for me to print out on my printer! In 1 book (the I spy) she earned all four rewards in an hour. Each time she stopped what she was doing and came to me to plug it in, view the reward, and print it out. The first time, the software said I didn't own the book (which was funny because I had downloaded it using the same software) but after restarting it, restarting the pen, and resyncing the pen to the software it finally agreed that I did, in fact, own the book and could redeem the reward. Personally, I didn't like step 10 very much, I was done at step 9, but modern technology is demanding.

Will you (as a parent) like this experience?

1) Obviously, if you one of the millions of people who are used to having your iphone, ipod, or whatver, you are used to all of this. You get to do it all again when you buy this device.

2) If you are one of the millions of people to whom this sounds like a pain in the and makes you want to call your son in law, then, maybe, just maybe, this product is not for you.

As for the product:

The product is really quite good. Its amazing what it can do. And the kids really love to use it. It will help them to learn to read, spell, and some other things too. I'm very pleased with the product overall.

It has a headphone jack, but no headphones are included. My kids prefer over-the-ear headphones because those little earbuds just keep falling out. We use these: Sennheiser HD 202 Dynamic Supra-Aural Headphones

The demo book that comes with it is just ok. Being optomistic, its worth 2 hour of fun. Its got a huge variety of stuff. Its almost too random an assortment, but it does show you what the pen can do. They had to include something. But the demo book is not very "deep". You absolutely will have to buy more books. The books range from $10-$20 each. They can be used without the pen in a pinch. I think the books are a "fair" value.

The instructions were "clear enough". They are good considering how much more software is involved. I felt comfortable with the instructions and had no problems getting it set up. I'm complaining about how much "setting up" there was, but, it wasn't "hard".

Overall, to enjoy this product you are looking at a total expense of around $100 between the reader and a reasonable assortment of books. And its really cool and really fun once you look past the other details.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I acquired the LeapFrog TAG reading system for my 7 year-old granddaughter in an effort to help improve her lagging reading skills. I gave the Leapfrog TAG device to her father (my son)for a test drive. He has used the Leapster 2 gaming system with his little girl for several years, so positive brand awareness influenced his interest in the LeapFrog TAG system. I asked him for some comments about the device. Here is what he said:

"On the parental side, software installation was quite simple. The device was in use less than ten minutes after opening the box. Managing the LeapFrog TAG's media library at the desktop is also quite easy. The UI can be personalized to and utilized by the child with minimal instruction.

While my overall opinion of the system is positive, I found the materials included with the device to be decidedly minimalist. Unlike the Leapster 2, no protective case was included. Considering the TAG's size, this increases the likelihood of misplacement. Batteries were not included, a rarity these days. Finally, the 'sample' book included was comprised of snippets from multiple available titles. The Leapster 2 had come with a complete game included. No additional purchase was required for the child to enjoy full immediate use of the device.

After purchasing a copy of 'Walter the Far---g Dog Goes on a Cruise' on sale for $10 at a local big box retailer, LeapFrog TAG's potential was realized. It's entertaining, versatile, and certainly more than just a talking book. The child can have the entire story read to him/her or point to specific words for assistance with pronunciation. Illustrations feature puzzles and quizzes to elicit interest beyond the story itself.

In addition, sound effects are employed to entertain which was of particular interest with the above noted title. Upon first receiving the TAG device and additional book, my child spent roughly a half hour with it (uninterrupted), then revisited frequently throughout the rest of the day. The device was used multiple times every day since receiving it, but my child is already requesting more titles after fully exploring the one(s) we have.

In just a short time, I have witnessed my girl's ability to learn and speak more complex words. Long term viability of the LeapFrog TAG will likely be a function of available titles. I have noticed more of the newer ones to involve mostly games and puzzles. We will be sampling one of those soon.

Even if the LeapFrog TAG turns out to be only a transitional learning tool that doesn't provide years of use like the Leapster 2, I've already found it to be a valuable help improving my child's reading skills."

I hope my son's remarks were helpful. I can tell you that he was very satisfied with the TAG system and even more important so was my granddaughter.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program THE QUICK TAKE: The Leapfrog Tag Reader is a terrific toy, one that every parent with children from ages 3 or 4 to 6 or so should consider purchasing. Just plan on spending another $30-60 a year on books, so that you'll have age-appropriate books as your child grows. Also, to download the audio for a book, you need a computer with an internet connection.

FULL REVIEW: There are several ways to use the Tag Reader with the Tag books. In a storybook, the Reader will read the text for a page if the child taps a symbol. Or, a child can tap individual words to have them read aloud, or tap one of many characters or images on a page to get dialogue or a sound effect so each page has more to explore. Some pages have letter or number activities. And some pages have games. The content on some pages is a little thin, but overall the entire system the Reader and the books is thoughtfully designed and works well.

I'm always a little skeptical about the claims about toys that will make my child smarter, while they are having fun. But the Tag Reader delivers on that promise:

It's interactive and self directed, which keeps our child engaged.

The games and activities are fairly well-designed and engaging, though a child may need some help getting started.

All of that encourages exploration, and gets the child to go through the educational content.

Our child also uses the audiobook mode to play an entire book at times.

The system works well for us, and provides an activity that's both enjoyable and educational. Since our 4 year old gave up naps, the Tag Reader has been a great activity for the "quiet time" in the afternoon when she used to sleep.

Every child is different, and develops in their own way, so you may need to try re-introducing the Tag Reader more than once to get your child started. It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of children had to try the Tag Reader a few times before they really got going with it.

Note that the Reader is actually detecting special encoding hidden in the books, and that triggers a programmed sound it's not actually reading the letters, etc. So the Tag Reader and only be used with the specially designed books.

WELL DESIGNED: The Reader seems well designed and durable. The electronics are all inside the case the little point at the end has a switch built in, but it isn't fragile. And the eye of the reader is inside the nearby hole. It took a little while for our child to get the hang of how to use the Reader, but overall it works well.

BOOK SELECTION: Leapfrog currently offers about 40 books. But keep in mind that those span the entire age range, so there may only be a handful of books for your child's age and tastes. There are also some other products the Reader works on, such as National Geographic Activity Cards Land Animals and some maps.

SETUP IS STRAIGHTFORWARD: To use a book, you need to first download the audio to the Reader, then activate that book by touching the Reader on something inside the book. The software needed for the downloads installed quickly and worked well enough for me. The Tag Reader was recognized quickly when connected using the included USB cable. The audio files are not large, so adding a book is a reasonably quick process. And you only need to do it once per book. The reader holds about 10-12 books in the 32 MB of memory, so most parents should be able to keep all the books a child is currently using on the Tag Reader. It's easy to imagine going for months without needing to update books on the Reader.

MORE INFORMATION: If you want more information, read the product description and some of the reviews for the previous version of the product: LeapFrog Tag Reading System (32 MB). Amazon has a much better description of the product there.

NOT QUITE PERFECT (BUT CLOSE): The Tag Reader has been around a while, so it's been refined. But I do have a few minor quibbles:

The included "Let's Play Tag" sampler book isn't really much use, even as a demonstration of what the Reader can do. We never used it after the first day. I'd much rather have had a real book, or a better, expanded version of the sampler with more content.

The instructions could be improved a little. For example, there is a diagram that points out the audiobook button, but as far as I could see there are no instructions on how to use it or what it was for. Although like most things with the Tag Reader, it's not hard to figure out.

The USB cable that comes with the reader is a little short.

After being used for a while, the Reader starts to talk about getting rewards online when you turn it on. I'd rather that wasn't on by default, and want to disable it.

The software is a little bloated and rough, but works well enough.

And, while we're dreaming, it would be great if there was a way to locate the darn thing! We've lost it (in the house) a few times already.

The Tag Reader and the books go on sale from time to time, which may help make it all more affordable if you can wait.

Honest reviews on LeapFrog TAG Reading System

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As an educator, I'm leery of electronic aids for education purposes. I was interested in the Leapfrog TAG Reading System because my daughter had been begging for it for a long time. Overall, it was a fun toy for her but, as I suspected, not a great learning tool.

Pros:

1. It is sturdy.

2. It is easy enough to download to your computer and upload the books you purchase.

3. It was a welcome change from DVDs during travel.

4. It is simple enough that a child can use and get the "hang of" fairly quickly.

Cons:

1. I dislike that they claim to be a reading system. It doesn't help your child read, it merely reads for them. My daughter already reads so she was more interested in the games.

2. While certain stories are fun (I Spy and the Nature cards), there isn't much "learning".

3. While it may be a fairly simple start up, you still have to download the Leapfrog system to your computer, upload every time you purchase a new book, etc.

After a week or so of use, my daughter tired of it and went back to reading on her own. The books are fairly expensive for the system so unless you're willing to heavily invest in the system, it can get rather old quickly.

My nephew got the Tag reader several years ago, so I've been eyeing it for my daughter for a while. She just turned 4 so I got it for her for her birthday. I love the updated look it feels more sleek and cool. My nephew's earlier version came with a paperback book, but this one comes with a sampler book that lets you try out lots of different pages from other Tag books. It's really helpful to see what else is out there and for her to figure out which ones she would play with most. And I have to say I am amazed by the amount of games and activities embedded in each page. Great product I highly recommend it!

I purchased these for homeschooling along with some pattern cards. I was anxious to get them in and when they arrived I was kind of disappointed that these are only Baby Bears, not a mix of three different sizes with Mama Bear and Papa Bear. The pattern cards require bears of three different sizes so I guess I'll have to order a different set. Be aware that if you are wanting the assorted size bears, this product only contains the smallest size bears. I would have purchased a different set if the description for this item had noted that.

The bears themselves are very cute and durable looking. Even though they are not what I wanted, I know my kids are going to go nuts over them.

I ordered this to go with a couple of preying mantis egg cases I wanted to be able to see the baby bugs. It arrived promptly and properly contained the egg cases, and also the baby mantids I was very happy to NOT have a zillion baby mantids roaming around my screened-in porch! It was easy enough to take the bug jug out to the garden and open it to release the mantids, too.

When I ordered it, I thought "And we have a boy, so this will be fun for him anyhow. Bugs. Educational toy!" The boy is currently afraid of bugs (except ants, which he is willing so step on), so it's not so useful with him right now...

My boy of 3 years old has been filling his pockets with rolly-polellies for several weeks. This is a much better temporary home than his pockets! It arrived a little late, even with Prime shipping, it took 4 days to arrive, but it has come in front of the praying mantis eggs I ordered for my garden. Hopefully we can hatch the eggs in this little bug home and then release them into the garden and watch them grow! The toy was a great deal for the dollar!

I don't understand why someone would make a bug catcher, that is aimed towards kids that you can't detach the bottom to get grass, leaves & bugs out. The only way to get stuff out is to shake it out the small little whole at the top. I could have bought something just as good at the $1 store. I am disappointed to say the least.

Honest reviews on Magnifying Bug Jug

As soon as my 3 1/2 year old opened this he went right to collecting! In an hour we had caught several snails and 2 frogs. It helped him view the activity of an animal and taught him to be gentle with creatures and we learned about natural habitats. The magnifying glass isn't the clearest but didn't really matter :)

Discount 4M Volcano Making Kit

4M Volcano Making Kit
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
I bought this kit for my mom and I (my mom is 60, I'm 37) and we spent 2 winter evenings building volcanoes. The kit comes in a surprisingly small box, that's because the volcano mold is made of 4 panels that snap together. The kit includes the 4 volcano panels, a volcano chimney, a small bag of plaster, and watercolor paint. The panels and chimney are made of strong plastic and will not break.

It was not a completely trouble-free experience, the amount of plaster provided is not quite enough and does not allow for mistakes. Sure enough, we made a mistake on the first attempt, we waited too long between mixing the plaster and pouring it in the mold, and ended up with a mess. The solution was to go to the local store to buy a box of plaster of Paris, which allowed to make 2 volcanoes without worrying about running out.

After pouring the plaster and letting it set, the mold is taken apart to reveal the "cracked" surface of the volcano, which looks nice. The chimney remains inside, that's where the mix of soda and vinegar will go. That means the kit is not intended for making more than one volcano at a time. That was a small problem to address when making the second volcano, I cut out the spout of a water bottle and used it as the chimney for the other volcano. Worked well.

Once both volcanoes have hardened and dried, then came the arts part of the project: using the watercolor, make the while plaster look like a volcano. The colors include red, yellow, blue and green, and by mixing colors one can figure out how to make the desired colors. My mom and I had different styles, I went for a more authentic look with brown and green at the bottom, and orange "lava" at the top, and my mom went for a more hippie-looking volcano. They both looked great. The finished volcano is about 5 inches tall.

Since we were planning on filming and photographing the volcano eruptions, we did some experimenting with soda and vinegar in the sink using small glasses. We figured out the quantities we liked, and added some food coloring to make the lava orange instead of a white foam. The result was fantastic.

And then came the fun part: it was winter time in Canada, so we put the volcanoes on newspaper and the newspaper on the snow, took plenty of pictures (there were plenty of pictures at every step of the project as well), then proceeded with the eruptions. The whole family was outside to attend. They were spectacular, the lava erupted and flowed down the mountain...

We had a great time with this kit, and apart from the limited quantity of plaster it is good quality and well made. That would be a fun thing to do with kids, there are several skills involved in building and painting the volcanoes, and making them erupt.

Highly recommended.

This is a great idea -a reusable mold for a reusable volcano, and it comes with everything except water and vinegar, easy enough. First, and only real complaint, the directions stink. They tell you to add a bottle for an enlarged eruption chamber after they told you to pour the plaster in the mold. Add the bottle first, then pour. Also, it is extremely difficult to get the plastic eruption chamber cylinder out after the mold has dried. It fell off the ring on our first try, and we had to break the mold to get it out. The second time, it fell down into the bottle, and we had to carve away a little bit of the volcano to get it out. There is nothing to grab onto. A loop with string molded into the bottom to pull it out would be great. The third time, it shifted a bit to the side, and was a PAIN to remove. It gets a bit damaged each time from stretching, pulling and poking, so I am not sure how long it will last. I see no reason it cannot be molded to the ring so it can be pulled out by the ring. On a minor note, the paint colors it comes with are inappropriate, but probably generic. White, yellow, green, red, blue and black. No brown? We mixed our own, but still. An awesome product to erupt once you finally get a complete, viable one.

Best Deals for 4M Volcano Making Kit

Bought for my 3 and 4 year old boys. We made filled the mold and then watched the National Geographic documentary on volcanoes to keep them interested. Here are some notes that made our experience better:

1. It is a 2-day project so tell kids in advance. Day one is making and setting the plaster in the mold; day two is for painting and eruptions.

2. Chamber rub Vaseline around all bits of the chamber so the plaster won't harden to it. It is a super easy solution that makes the chamber removable and thus reusable many times. (Remember in grade school covering your face with Vaseline to make a plaster mask for your parents? Right, same idea here.) After about 20 minutes simply give the chamber a tug and slide it out before the plaster completely dries and hardens (over night). The Vaseline keeps it from sticking.

3. Use twice the baking soda and vinegar as suggested or the eruption is underwhelming.

4. Use food color instead of paint in the chamber mixture. Paint doesn't dissolve as uniformly at all.

5. Remember it is a small mold roughly producing a 6" volcano so don't expect a centerpiece for your table. The smaller size, however, makes it extremely manageable! We set ours in an 8x8 baking pan for the eruptions for easy clean-up.

Good luck. The kit is a WONDERFUL value.

Honest reviews on 4M Volcano Making Kit

People need to read the manual! The volcano mold is filled with plaster while upsidedown.

The confusion over the "eruption chamber" is that ONE plastic tube (with sealed bottom end to prevent the plaster from being poured into it) is included, and will become one with the plaster inside of the volcano--the area where you add your vinegar/baking soda later--therefore the tube/eruption chamber is not reusable.

The tube is basically the size of an 35mm film canister, and STAYS inside the volcano because the plaster won't allow it to budge once it is set. The volcano mold itself is reusable a zillion times, but you will need to come up with your own insert for the cavity (a plastic bottle neck with the cap on one end, an old 35mm film canister, even cardboard taped together like a 1 1/4" diameter tube will work).

Obviously the bigger the "chamber" the greater amount of "lava" may be used. Whatever you put in the top (small point) of the volcano to create the recess inside the volcano will stay there forever stuck to the plaster.

Plaster mixes quicker than oatmeal, and sets in 20 minutes, so no horsing around, or you will be at Michaels looking for more plaster.

I got this kit for my 41/2 yr old. We made the volcano today and it was a piece of cake. He loves it. We are waiting on it to dry so that we can paint it. Here are a few things to remember when you use this kit:

1) The evolution chamber (the mixture of vinegar and baking soda goes in here) needs to go in first and then the mould goes around it.

2) After you pour the Plaster of Paris the evolution chamber stays inside (it is mentioned in the instructions). So the evolution chamber is not reusable. BUT we made ours reusable by inverting the volcano after it had dried half way through and then removing the evolution chamber mould. Now we can reuse the chamber again to make another volcano. But the instruction clearly states it is a one time use for the chamber. So make your volcano with caution

3) Some people have complained about not having brown color. There are clear instructions at the back as to how to mix different colors to get the desired colors. E.g. red+ yellow + little black = brown.

I bought these for my son's first Christmas. When they came I realized the smallest blocks were a choking hazard, so they're on a shelf out of his reach until he's a little older. Unexpectedly, adult visitors to our house love them! My husband and I as well as friends and family have literally spent hours fiddling with these when the little ones are in bed. They're beautiful to look at and just beg to be played with.

I love Grimm toys and this is no exception. The colors are fabulous, the texture is great, the open play options are endless. These have been dolls, cakes, candles, mushrooms, roads, and more at our house. A definite favorite!

WE got the butterfly treehouse for our 6 year old son after he had seen it advertised on one of his kid channels. We found our treehouse at Target and then sent away for our Caterpillars. You pay 6.00 for shipping and handling. They arrived, already crawling around in about 5 days. You don't have to do anything with them except watch. After about a week, 4 of the 5 were already in their cocoons.. The fifth one went in on the next day. A week later... We had 4 of the 5 butterflies emerge and the last one came out today. Tney are so pretty and fun to watch. WE will be releasing our butterflies probably tuesday outside and will order more in July. It's a wonderful, learning experience for children and adults alike. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

I bought this for my 5 year old grandaughter and she was absolutely blown away by it. She got home from pre-k just in time to see the butterflies actually emerge. Even releasing them was a huge adventure. Today I am buying one for my nephew and another one for her. It is that cool!

Butterfly house was as expected.

Mailed away for Caterpillars they came in about 2 weeks they were great and easy, one was already hanging from the top the other 4 were hanging by the next day. They are now hanging in the house we are waiting for them to emerge. My 2 and 8 year old girls and my 4 year old nephew LOVED watching us move them from the cup to the house. GREAT ENTERTAINMENT the adults and kids can't wait to see and feed the butterflies.

My 3 year old daughter desparately wanted this kit when she saw the commercials on TV. She was so excited when we saw it in a store that she immediately wanted it instead of the bored game we went to buy. Our butterflies just came out yesterday and she is beyond thrilled to see them and feed them. It really is a fun family experience.

Playskool Alphie Booster Pack - Animals Reviews

Playskool Alphie Booster Pack - Animals

I bought Alphie for my Granddaughter for Christmas from Amazon. I also bought her the numbers and letters booster packs. I did not buy the Animal booster pack because of the price. It did not make sense to me that the other booster packs were about $10 and this one 3 times that. I found the Animal booster pack off line in a store and paid the same price that the other 2 are selling for. My Granddaughter loves her Alphie. It goes everywhere with her. Amazon, do a price check on the Animal Booster pack! Why are you charging SO much for it?

This is the best card pack for the Alfie in my opinion. It teaches all about different animals' habitats, body parts, sounds, and so much more. That being said, you can buy this for around $10 at stores, which is where I got mine because I won't pay 3 times that if I don't have to.

These cards are great, and the animal pack is hard to find. My 4 yr old loves to play with her Alphie, but when her 2 yr old sister gets her hands on these cards, I find myself wishing they were a little less flimsy. She hasn't torn them or anything (yet!) but she has certainly bent and creased many of them. I guess I wish they were a bendable plastic or something. Anyhow, it's still a wonderful product that I highly recommend if you have Alphie for your preschooler. The case they come with is also VERY handy for storing them if you have multiple sets of booster packs, since only one pack of cards fits in Alphie's back.

Honest reviews on Playskool Alphie Booster Pack - Animals

My 5 year old son enjoys this toy. No complaints other than the cards are flimsy. Here and there I question the stated facts/information the cards provide but nothing critical. Overall, 3 stars.

Yes, these cards are high quality and cover many, many situations that would cause an understand

based on what one would think is happening. My 4.5 year old could do well with half of them. The 2.8 year old was really thinking a lot about them, needs some time to relate. I think they are a good aid for learning.

It seems that someone is going around and down-voting all of the negative reviews of this product, no matter how clearly written or factual. If you read through them, though, you will see the same opinions expressed again and again:

First, the Amazon price is way too high. You can find this toy in most big box retailers for around $12-15.

Second, the buttons are very stiff and hard for young toddlers to use.

This was our experience too. Our baby liked seeing the animals pop up, and she figured out how each lever or knob or button was supposed to work; she just wasn't strong enough to make it happen. You really have to have some strong fingers to use this toy.

Since doing the right thing doesn't work, the educational value is nil. Baby can only play with it if we help her push the buttons, which defeats the whole point of exploring and playing.

I've practiced so that I can get all five animals to pop up at once. I'm 356 months old, and my 8 month old daughter also enjoys playing with this toy.

My seven-month old loves playing with this toy whenever we visit the doctor's office. He loves to manipulate the knobs and buttons and make the animals pop up. An added bonus is that this toy isn't electronic -no batteries! I haven't seen it in our local stores, so I'm pleased to see it for sale online.

My son loves this toy. He played with it around 8-9 months and still enjoys it at 14 months.

I'm so bummed. I was hoping this toy would be good for fine motor skill development but the knobs are somewhat tough to work with and not very obvious in which way it should be pushed! Terrible and very cheaply made toy for the price! I wish I can return this with free returns but there isn't that choice with this order!!
