I have the actual book of this story, and then my friend gave me this. Same story, only this one doesn't make as much sense since it is fitting the story into songs. I wasn't too thrilled (it seems annoying), but my daughter loves it so much I'm glad I kept it. She's had it for more than a year now (she's now 3 yo) and she still loves it (the book itself has long since been passed up). She can try and sing the songs now and that is cute. My son is now starting to like it too. I'm getting it for my niece who is turning 1.

My son is 6 years old, first grade and has a slight learning disability so we work extra hard on his sight words and sounding out letters, he doesn't have a whole lot of patience for it. However he loves star wars and he loves nintendo ds. On a whim I decided to buy the leapster and this game for it hoping that he wouldn't call it a "learning game" and immediately dismiss it. Wowee did I luck out he loves this game, can't play it enough.

The first day he had the game he was frustrated because he didn't know all the words and was running to me asking for help often. I encouraged him to try sounding out the letters and see how he could do. The second day I heard him sounding things out and trying to figure it out on his own. By day three he had mastered the game and was a general oh was he exited and mommy even more so he is consistently reading three and four letter words from the game.

Thank you so much leapster well worth the money spent.

I purchased this for my 5 year old grandson, who is in Kindergarten and just learning to read. He is also an avid Star Wars fan, so I thought this would be a fun way to help him with his basic reading skills. Well, this was the perfect choice because from the moment he opened it, he spentp practically every minute during the remainder of my visit using his Leapster with this game device. I spent some time doing it with him and was happy to see that it did, indeed, help him with his basic reading. All the while, making it FUN! Then his 8 year old sister wanted to play with it, too, so my worries that he would outgrow it too soon were quickly dispelled.

This game is worth it's weight in gold! I got this game for my 5 year old son, and he LOVES it! He enjoys it, because it allows him to feel like he's playing a traditional video game like his Dad's. I love it because he is learning the whole time!

He has come leaps and bounds in the last several weeks that he's been playing it. He has learned nearly all letter sounds, and has begun sounding out words on his own!! I am generally not a fan of video games, but this one is fun and educational!

I think my four-year-old will learn some good things from this book. For those wanting to know exactly what is inside here's the run-down.

The first page is for learning the alphabet and the sound of each letter.

One page has an activity to complete a pattern.

Another page asks the child to identify blend sounds like "br" and "st" by finding pictures of words that begin with those sounds as well as by touching the letter combinations.

One page has two monsters and groups of different numbers of candies (1-9). The child needs to identify the numbers and do simple addition.

The child can learn about the seasons and months of the year on another page.

Another page has dinosaurs on it. The child can hear the names slowly pronounced and learn which are carnivores and herbivores.

The last page has five pictures depicting sad, scared, angry, silly and happy. The child hears a short clip of music and is asked to choose the emotion the music sounds like. They can also make their own music by selecting the emotion and then clicking on five different instruments.

There may be a page or two I have forgotten or games I haven't heard my daughter play, but I don't have the book in front of me. My daughter has only had this book for a week and she has played with it for at least 30-40 minutes every day.

I admit it I bought this because the cover was so colorful and engaging, that I thought even if my 2 year old was way too young for the content, we could still have some fun exploring the pictures until she is more advanced. I'm glad I did. Even though there are definitely many elements in this book which are beyond a 2 year old's abilities, the Leapfrog system itself operates under so many levels that it can actually be tailored for a much younger child's exploration. At one level (the youngest ability level), she can just play with exploring the names and sounds of the illustrations (very basic). The games and activities for older children seem very engaging covering a wide range of topics:

Activity 1: A two page spread of a refridgerator with an illustration for each letter of the alphabet and you help the narrator find items ("Hmm, I would like a sandwich. Please help me find something to put on it.") with great positive reinforcement.

Activity 2: A two page "vowel show" with really adorable illustrations, focusing on the vowel sounds in context.

Activity 3: The word circus -an exploration of letters and words again, with great, vibrant illustrations

Activity 4: Consanat Blend Galary -haven't played with this one at all, but on the left side of the page you see a painter with an easel and the paint colors each have consant blends ("sw," "tr," "br," etc.) and on the right side of the 2-page spread there are 20 of his "paintings."

Activity 5: A two page spread story about a special lunch, with Leap (the frog) as the main character and involves some math skills as we count the items he eats.

Activity 6: Pattern Palace -a very creative way to work with young children's ability to understand pattern development.

Activity 7: Skip counting featuring 50 numbered birds and questions to guide your child through counting games. My toddler is too young for this, but enjoys just clicking on each bird to hear its number and sound effects.

Activity 8: Monster mathematics -very realistic illustrations of candy (8 candy canes, 5 chocolates, 2 candy corns, etc.) and the monster makes great "munching" sounds as you help him pick the right quantity/etc.

Activity 9: Months and Seasons (haven't tried yet, will update)

Activity 10: Party months (haven't tried yet, will update)

Activity 11: My community -two page spread of a town with key buildings (hospital, fire station, barber shop, cinema, post office, police, zoo, supermarket, ice cream shop) with descriptions/songs/etc. Great page!

Activity 12: Dinorsaur class photo -adorable pictures of various, detailed dinosaurs with fun facts and sounds. Definitely lots of content here (and dinosaurs I have never heard of!)

Activity 13: Feelings funhouse: an exporation of feelings through music and illustrations. Great idea, but the illustrations on this one are not as great as the other pages.

I think a bright 3 year old would get A LOT out of this. And because it's not a long story, it can be used in short bursts just flipping through the pages or doing one page here, one page there. I really do recommend this highly.

Best Deals for LeapFrog LeapReader Book: Get Ready for Kindergarten (works

I love this book and all the different skills it teaches. I hope they make more for the other grades. I will list the activities:

ABC SNACK TIME: Alphabet in the fridge w/corresponding food or item above it. Example H has 3 hot dogs in hats above the letter. Game will tell you to find the letter 'k', or find the pizza, or find the letter that makes the 'lllll' sound.

THE VOWEL SHOW: The vowels are listed. Below are some simple words like wig, bat, lips, etc with a picture of what is word is. Game will say find the vowel that makes the 'aaaaa' sound. Or find three words that have the sound 'aaaa' in it, like cat. If you find the three words it makes a silly sentence out of them.

WORD CIRCUS: Small words like pig, wig, fox, box. Games focus on finding beginning sound, rhyming and spelling the simple words. (This game reminds me of the Leapfrog flash cards)

CONSONANT BLEND GALLERY teaches some blends, like 'sk', 'gr', 'cl', etc. Has pictures that begin w/the blends and the game will instruct you to find a picture that starts with one of the various blends. As I am using this as an ESL tool also, this game annoys me with the goofy french accent, which my son has some problems understanding.

THE SPECIAL LUNCH: This is a simple written story, with an occasional picture thrown in to represent a noun, rather than having the written word. So it goes, "Leap made himself a (picture of a sandwich)." Later, it will ask you questions about what the story was about, like "Who did Leap make a sandwich for?"

PATTERN PLACE: A picture of a park with a guy driving blowing a horn, boy playing drums....and then the game will give you a sequence of noises to repeat. The second page has deals with shapes and completing patterns using sequence.

SKIP COUNTING A tree of birds with numbers on their bellies. Count by ones first, then later by 10's and some other variations.

MONSTER MATHEMATICS Piles of different candy in different amounts. Find who has more 1 marsh mallow or 2 candy canes. Then it's find less. Then adding the candy.

MONTHS AND SEASONS Reviews the months and seasons.

PARTY MONTH Reviews months, days of the week and dates.

MY COMMUNITY picture of a town with different buildings/areas labeled. Help find Tommy and it gives you clues to try and find him. Next game is also clues "This person works with mail, who is it?" Reminds me of Sesame Streets, 'who are the people in your neighborhood' song.

DINOSAUR CLASS PHOTO Identify herbivores and carnivores/those that walk on two legs, and by other characteristics. Then listen to clues to try and figure out what dinosaur to find

FEELINGS FUNHOUSE mixes feelings (silly, scared, angry, sad and happy) with music.

Please forgive the typos....

There are so many different activities in this book. From the alphabet fridge to the counting games. My son loves this whole book and spends at least five minutes each day going through it. It might not sound like a lot, but he really dislikes learning and five minutes is long for a four year old boy running on what seems like gasoline all day.

I bought this game for my six year old daughter's birthday in hopes that all the children (4,6,10)would play together and that the grownups could play too without completely zoning out. It has far exceeded my expectations! The kids really enjoy it. My ten year old son says he loves "the imaginative spirit about it, and it's just a really fun game for everybody." We've taken it to gatherings and not only do the girls like it, the boys really like it, too. The girls say it's fun because they get to "save the princess!" And the grownups wherever we go get interested and start playing, too! It promotes cooperative play, not competitive, and you get really creative about the ways to use the resources you have (a firefly, a candle, a horse!) to solve the obstacles facing you. Another plus is that the game pieces have the French words as well as the English, so we've had some fun with that as well. The greatest fun for this homeschooling mom is watching my three kids laugh together, imagine together, and work together towards a common empowering goal. This game is creating wonderful memories for our family and friends. I highly recommend it!

This game is awesome. It is so simple that my 5yo and 3yo can play it together alone. It is highly imaginative and inspires a lot of creativity the stuff my kids have come up with trying to save that princess has been hilarious and also demonstrates some really great problem-solving. There is no one winner we either all win or all lose, which is great for eliminating fighting. In short, the kids love it, I love it, and they don't need me to play it, which if you are a mom you know is priceless. #winning

Our girls (ages 4-7) were first introduced to this game about a month ago while playing with a friend. We've been having issues with our younger daughter not handling board games well with some of the more traditional games (Candyland, Shutes & Ladders) for her age, and those games have ceased to be entertaining for our older daughter (or me!). Anyway, Princess has been a great way for the girls (and their friends) to play cooperatively and it is gratifying to see them work together to rescue the princess. Our youngest easily handles the disappointment of not saving the princess every game since it's a collective loss. Bye-bye tears and grumpiness. Hello family time, fun, and creativity. We also bought Max for Christmas since we've been impressed at how well the cooperative games work for our family. That game has more to do with odds/strategy, whereas Princess involves creatively using the pieces in addition to chance. Also, with Max, not necessarily all the critters are saved/eaten, but for the Princess, she is either rescued or not. Both girls like each game and often we play 2-3 rounds of one game, then switch to the other. It is more fun with 2-4 kids and having a parent "help" with the game rules the first few times definitely helps transition the kids so they can play it without an adult. I think older (9 yrs +) kids might get bored playing Princess with same aged peers, but having a mixed age group (of any age) keeps the interest level since every age level seems to have a different perspective on how to creatively rescue the princess. In any case, it is a nice way to have older siblings play with their younger siblings without all the drama.

Honest reviews on Family Pastimes / Princess - A Co-operative Game

I had this game as a young child myself and loved to play it with my friends. It is a great teambuilding game and the difficulty can be easily adjusted to meet the needs and ages of the players. Recently, I brought it with me to play with some kids that I babysit. I adapted the rules and successfully played the game with a 3 year old. She loves it!! This year for Christmas, I bought the game for her and her sister. She is 5 and her sister is 3. They both love it! The 5 year old remembers all of the extra fun things we added in:

During the game, the players have to confront various challenges to help rescue the princess and make group decisions. One of the challenges is to cross water to get to the castle. We chose to use the rowboat to get across. Instead of simply playing the card, we put the card down and added in rowing actions. Similarly, when we got to the guard, we added dialogue for him. These are just little fun tidbits I have added to help make the game more fun/sometimes easier for the younger kids. It is amazing what they remember over a period of 3+ months of not playing the game.

Overall, the game is a great problem solving, team building, choice making game. Great for all ages to play together!!

The company that makes the game, also makes lots of other cooperative team games. They are all awesome and all very fun to play. They are really different because they are not your typical competitive winner/loser games. These are games where everyone is a winner and there are natural problems that need to be solved. Great selection of games!!

I bought this to keep my 5-year old daughter occupied on days when the weather is bad and I have never seen her so absorbed in a board game. She wanted to play it all weekend long, and even when I was cooking dinner and couldn't play with her, she played by herself, taking turns for both of us. Now that's a good game! It is fairly easy to win every time, as one reviewer points out. But sometimes the win is easy and straightforward, and sometimes you scrape by just before dark falls; either way the game teaches cooperation because all parties have to agree on how to overcome the obstacles. i must say, it made for much more enjoyable playtime and bonding to have the game end with a joint celebration of "we won, we won, we won!" rather than having a winner and a loser.

I work in a toy store and we sell Geomags. Let me tell you, they are almost impossible to keep in stock. They are very very very strong, and are quite addictive. You can build immense towers, perpetual motion machines (almost), tops, and lots of things that spin. By connecting two spheres you can spin any shape! One sphere can suppost at least nineteen other pieces. This is a great toy, they are heavy duty, and built tough. If you're into a building type toy, or like to explore physics, or need a really neat desk toy, this is it.

I purchased the 42 piece set for my 5yr old sister; she loves it, and is clamoring for more sets.

DON'T BUY ANYTHING SMALLER THAN THE 42 PIECE SET! Once you (or your young friend) start playing with it, they'll demand more pieces!

This is an excellent learning toy, with applications in everything from physics to geometry. I highly recommend it for kids (and I'm a 22yr old one) of all ages.

This toy surprised us for its lasting durability and the sustained interest of my grandson, age 6 1/2. Ignoring a room full of toys and games, he played with the pieces almost daily and carried them back and forth to school, making interesting shapes and stories.

The idea behind this toy is great but they need to double the number of pieces in the box. I started to run out of ideas after about 2 hours of playing with it with my sons. We'll likely buy another and combine them.

I HIGHLY recommend for you to purchase the Pixter. It is wonderful. My husband and I bought this last year for our then 4 year old son. Not only was it his favorite "Christmas Day" toy (and trust me he received about a million other toys that day!) but it has been his most favorite toy all year through. He will pick it up constantly and just start playing it. We definitely always bring it with us shopping and on trips. I found that designating a special backpack for his Pixter, game cartridges, GameBoy and its cartridges works out better than a regular specially made case, but that's just my opionion. We purchased the hard shell case for the Pixter also, and it is very durable, but I have just found the backpack to be more convenient. As for Pixter's durablity, my son has dropped his several times, tosses it on the couch, you name it and the thing still runs as brand new. Batteries last long also. Not only is this a FUN toy, but it's educational as well. My son has gained many, many fun-filled hours from the Pixter. It is one of the best things we have bought for him that has been so well worth the money. He is 5 years old now and continues to have this as one of his all-time favorite toys!! Buy it...you will be VERY happy you did! And so will the child in your life!

Pixters have been keeping our 4 children entertained for years. We bought the original system for our kids when they first came out and have continued to upgrade as Fisher Price has released new systems. My (at the time) 3 year old son got a Color Pixter for his birthday and it never left his hands for the entire year. We decided to purchase the Multimedia Pixters for our 3 year old twins (as we found them on a clearence sale after the holidays). They were such hit with them and our 4 year old and 6 year old children that we went back to buy the remaining clearence MM Pixters for their upcoming birthdays.

The battery life has been surprisingly good and they have survived many drops and crashes. Occasionally we need to recalibrate the screen by using the stylus tool to press the button on the back of the toy. The personalities of our four children range from "laid back and quiet" to "one who rarely sits down" with the others falling somewhere in between, but each of our kids are very entertained by their Pixters for very long periods of time. We highly recommend it!

Best Deals for Pixter Multi-Media System: Purple

We were looking for a substitute of the likes of the Video Now or some the other mindless electronic toys on the X-Mas must-have lists. It isn't much cheaper than those others, but we felt that the options for creativity were greater with the PIXTER.

Like the other systems there are built-in functions: a tetris-like game, a drawing page, word games, dot-to-dot pages, and more. The stylus tool is fairly easy to use and the drawing functions have many stamps, backgrounds and other methods to enhance artwork. The PIXTER will save selected works, also there are many accessories to extend PIXTER interest, additional cartridges some with licensed products like Sponge-Bob, Barbie, Walking with Dinosaurs, Teen Titans, each allowing real-time clips and editing of TV scenes ($20 each). One of the most interesting accessories is the digital camera for even more personalized creative play.

My 8 and 5 year old were hooked by the PIXTER. The only problem is the batteries, some systems come with chargers or AC ports, the PIXTER DOES NOT. We bought rechargable AAs for the toy.

Honest reviews on Pixter Multi-Media System: Purple

I bought this for my daughter's sixth birthday. They reel you in with the game selections, however, the games are ridiculous. You can't really do anything other than draw on the screen. The icons are confusing. I would not recommend this item to anybody. Don't even THINK about trying the digital camera you can buy as an accessory for $40. The pictures are terribly unclear and fuzzy. I say put your money into a Gameboy or Leap pad. This is a terribly outdated toy and not worth $5.00.

We bought the Color Pixter for our daughter for her 3rd Birthday! (After we would spend hours using the demo one in the store) Her older cousin finally broke that one (throwing it on the ground a few times too many.. boys :-( So we bought her the new Multi-Media one for Christmas. She is now 5, and it is still her favorite! While the base system does not have many educational games on it, there are a lot of educational ones you can get, and the games are a lot cheaper than the Leapster cartridges! (Just do NOT get the digital camera!!!!!!!! it doesnt work at all with Multi-Media, and didnt work well at all with the color system!!!!) All the other games have been great so far! Better than DVD player in the car! Best thing ever for plane rides! I would not trade this in for any other toy!

I work for the Building & Grounds crew at the local community college and my job is cleaning all the chalk boards and dry erase boards. I had been using the water and sponge method too before I found these cloths and I will never go back to the water and sponge. Not only is the cloth faster, but it still gets the job done and is better for the boards. I was hoping this would be a solution for cleaning off our giant chalkboard wall. It absolutely did not work for that surface. The cloth caught on every tiny bump and tore apart.

Honest reviews on Chalkboard Cleaning Cloth; 15" x 36"; no. BHICC1548

As a teacher, my worst fear is to have a chalkboard that you cannot write on. When you use water to clean a board, it absorbs the water and distorts it after awhile. After you erase the chalk, it leaves dust everywhere. Swiping it with this takes that all away and makes it nice and dark again. It won't restore an old board, but it cleans and keeps the board like new.

I had no problem with the quality of the box compared to the price. It has a sweet old fashioned hand painted detail that is very lovely primitive country Americana in a lovely display. The inside has a prancing horse with a mirror behind (reflective silver paint, not a true mirror). It plays a tune I didn't recognize but that was lovely.

In all, this small little music box is lovely. I doubt it will be a keepsake that lasts her entire life definitely not high enough quality for that. The box pictures are appliqued on and the inside 'velvet' lining is about what you would find from a cheap ring box. But for what it is, something to hold her treasures when she's young, I'm quite happy.

I've added a video so you can hear the song and get an idea of the size of the box.

My daughter loves this and uses it all of the time. I would have given this a 5 star if some of the outside wasn't perfectly glued on.

Honest reviews on Enchantmints Country Horse

We got this little music jewelry box for our daughters 5th birthday. She absolutely loves it! The designs are adorable and just what we wanted.

However, it is not well made. I make sure she is very careful with the box and she is only allowed to look at it and listen to it under supervision because I am worried about it breaking. The music box itself does not play well. After you wind it up, it plays for a little bit and then starts to "stick" and you have to constantly give the winder a nudge to keep it going. The little horse inside that spins to the music when the box is open has already fallen off and I am worried about it breaking. The horse is also not well made and looks like someone tried to cut off its head! I am going to try and tie/glue a small ribbon around its neck to hide the mark.

If they had put a little more effort into quality, this would be a wonderful little musical jewelry box. My little girl loves it and all the little girls at the party were ohhing and ahhing over it when she opened it.

I was hoping it would last her through adult hood (as one had for me that I received as a chid different graphics but the exact same design, style and size) but unfortunately, I do not feel this will be the case.

This thing is neat looking for a toddler and sized ok, but the bristles are so stiff it just skips along the ground when my daughter tries to sweep the driveway with me. If it actually worked, she'd probably use it more. I wound up just cutting down the handle on a real push broom for her to use and she picks it every time.

Sturdy and very easy to use for our 2 1/2 year old granddaughter, who is keeping our house very clean!

I know this is a toy but I wish the bristles were made out of something different so it was easier to push and would actually sweep. My 20 month old plays with it some but he prefers a real broom. He loves helping around the house so that's why we purchased it in the first place but he's not too excited about it since it's hard to push.
