Ordered these bugs for my two-year-old. They have turned out to be such a big hit and more fun than I would have anticipated. I ordered them in conjuction with the M&D snake magnifying glass. We play with these bugs all the time: we hide them in the grass and learn about camouflage; we hide them around the house and play detective; we give them baths in the pool or just a bucket of water; they are target practice for our spray bottles. Sometimes we catch them in nets or our dinosaurs eat them. These simple colorful bugs have given way to some great pretend play. These little bugs are perfect! My 3 year old daughter kept asking us for bugs. I hadn't purchased any because all the ones I had seen were tiny and would be choking hazards for our 10 month old. These are just big enough that they are not a hazard. They are also REALLY cute, not creepy looking bugs. Cute colors (not realistic), nicely made and have provided lots of fun for our daughter. This is a set of 10 colorful, plastic play bugs. They are each approximately 2-3 inches long. Very well sized for toddlers and young children. They vary in bright colors-our set included yellow, green, blue, orange, pink, and navy. They are made of rigid plastic. These bugs do NOT wiggle or move. They are sturdy, durable, and very well-made.

I bought these for warm-weather outdoors play. They are perfect to hide in the grass, play with in a water table, or use as a "hide and seek" with a magnifying glass in the garden. This is not a stand-alone toy-you will need some imagination, but they are great!!! Also wonderful for teaching counting, sorting, etc.

My Mom bought these for my older son when he was two. He was fascinated with "little guys" and would carry several around with him all the time. he had years of enjoyment with these and still picks them up to play pretending games. Now my youngest is three and he has taken to carrying the ants and grasshoppers wherever he goes. One of the ants has lost a leg or two (I'm pretty sure it was actually a forcible amputation ;) )and the centipedes got lost at the beach a couple summers back, but other than that they have held up remarkably well to almost five years of use. they are chunky, bright and sturdy for little hands. I actually am so excited that they still make them. I thought they were a big red bulls eye summer special from years ago. I am excited to find a second set because my little guy is very upset if he can't find one of them. I would definitely recommend them.

Thought it might sound similar to a rain stick. It doesn't, but it makes a soft sound and it can be amusing for a few minutes, so I'm glad I got it.

We've had a couple of these, but they keep getting gifted to the kids, so finally we bought one for the adults. My siblings and I, their spouses, are all in our fifties, and we have a blast with this toy. It's great at a party, or for some good Halloween fun.

Bought this toy because I liked the sounds I have heard it make. I wanted to record them. And that is what I did.

I am not a child so I can not comment on how well your kid will enjoy this toy, but if I was a youth I would find this toy mildly amusing. I would probably play with it for a while making KEWL LAZER sounds.

Silly Starters Write-Abouts, 4-8 Review

I got this book for my 10 yr old homeschooling son, who really dislikes writing. Since receiving it he has been enthusiastically filling up a daily journal with ideas started by this book! The book is getting a little worn with all the flipping back and forth to see the silly combinations but it still serves its purpose just fine. I would highly recommend it to all parents/teachers for ways to get even the less-than-enthusiastic writers going! I am actually ordering several of the other books in this series today to get a little more variety in writing types.

Magnifying Bug Jug Review

I ordered this to go with a couple of preying mantis egg cases I wanted to be able to see the baby bugs. It arrived promptly and properly contained the egg cases, and also the baby mantids I was very happy to NOT have a zillion baby mantids roaming around my screened-in porch! It was easy enough to take the bug jug out to the garden and open it to release the mantids, too.

When I ordered it, I thought "And we have a boy, so this will be fun for him anyhow. Bugs. Educational toy!" The boy is currently afraid of bugs (except ants, which he is willing so step on), so it's not so useful with him right now...

My boy of 3 years old has been filling his pockets with rolly-polellies for several weeks. This is a much better temporary home than his pockets! It arrived a little late, even with Prime shipping, it took 4 days to arrive, but it has come in front of the praying mantis eggs I ordered for my garden. Hopefully we can hatch the eggs in this little bug home and then release them into the garden and watch them grow! The toy was a great deal for the dollar!

I don't understand why someone would make a bug catcher, that is aimed towards kids that you can't detach the bottom to get grass, leaves & bugs out. The only way to get stuff out is to shake it out the small little whole at the top. I could have bought something just as good at the $1 store. I am disappointed to say the least.

As soon as my 3 1/2 year old opened this he went right to collecting! In an hour we had caught several snails and 2 frogs. It helped him view the activity of an animal and taught him to be gentle with creatures and we learned about natural habitats. The magnifying glass isn't the clearest but didn't really matter :)

I'm an engineer. I have ten years of college. And I learned many new things about magnetism from this "toy." I bought it for my TWO-year-old granddaughter because I love to explain science in a way kids can understand. She LOVES this thing.

WARNING-magnets can be very dangerous if swallowed (so I have to keep a close eye on her while we "play" with this.)

I have many other magnetic-electricity educational toys. I'd rate this second best for educational value. I rate Learning Mates Electricity-Magnetism Combination Kit as best, but this is the only one that taught me new things.

Cheap Student Insect Collecting & Mounting Kit

I recently began this hobby and was itching to get my hands on a kit that was affordable and practical, this kit truly has it all. I had some difficulty assembling the net but the rest of the product was very simple and easy to follow. It truly gives you everything you need to begin insect collecting and displaying at a very affordable price. Excellent sturdy colorful toy! My daughter is 16 months and absolutely loves these eggs! They help to teach colors and shapes (the bottom of each egg has a different shape to fit in the bottom of the egg box). Also each egg has an expression on its face which is matched on the eggshell so the child can learn to match facial expressions too.

I bought this for my nephews 1-year-old birthday, he loved it!!! He loves taking the top shell off, and eating them, of course. It'll be a while before he understands how to put them back into the carton, since you have to match the shapes. But these are adorable and different! I bought this for my son because I had it as a child. I know we used to walk around dragging it as well as playing with it as a phone. The problem with this whole thing is that they shortened the two cords -the one to pull it while walking and the one from the base of the phone to the receiver -so much that they essentially defeat the purpose of the toy. My son is just about one year old and the receiver will not reach his ear when he is sitting with the toy on the floor. The pull cord is SO short I don't even think my small dog could walk and pull the thing. I understand the need for safety, but it's really taken a lot of the fun out of this toy.

In sum: it's nice to reminisce about your youth with this, but your child will not be able to use it in the same way you did. I'll look for a used old one rather than having purchased this one had I known what I know now.

How I survived my childhood with this toy, I don't know. Supposedly it was hazardous. This newer version still has the rotary dial with the same ringing (which I loved and still love--no batteries). The eyes move up and down when the wheels roll. The receiver seems a lot lighter in weight than I remember. The pull cord is very thin and cheap. I tie it up in a bow so it doesn't get caught or be a hazard. The cord attached to the receiver part is very short. For my almost 11-month old to hold it up to her ear, she has to lift up the whole phone. My daughter is petite in height, so since the toy is technically for age 12 months, I can really see the main phone go swinging when a child tries to bring the receiver to the ear. The cord to the receiver is the same thin cord as the pullcord--but a different color. I know a longer cord would be a choking hazard (that's my guess as to why it's so short), but it sure would make the phone a little more fun to use--so eventually a toddler could dial AND pretend to talk on the phone at the same time.

My mother had me order this for my 6yr old. They played with it very often and still do some of the "experiments" quite often. He especially enjoys the stethoscope they made but the balloon didn't last very long before it broke. Easily replaced. Some of the projects were messy, at least for a 6yr old boy but over all it was a great buy. They had lots of fun and my son learned a lot. My mom had some old encyclopedias around the house that helped answer a lot of the questions he had and went into much more detail. Just something to keep in mind, there will be lots of questions :)

I bought the Fire Truck placemat for my son, and my sister bought 3 for her children. The Mats are wonderful...the M&D crayons they recommend to use with them, not so much. While I would agree with some of the other reviews that they are nice because they don't break and they are very easy to wash off the mats, I have found these crayons are unnecessary.

My son is 19 mos old and these frustrate him. When the tip runs out, he needs my help to advance them. The vibrancy of the colors are horrible (we have the M & D triangle crayons and those are fabulous, but DON'T use them on these mats...it doesn't wash off). My niece got the Alphabet mat and these crayons were so hard for her to use on that mat because they were fat and chubby and so light (low vibrancy) she could barely see. Pencil works great, but she wanted to use "color" (don't use colored pencils...they don't wash off either) and quickly got frustrated/bored with her mat.

I have found that Crayola Washable Crayons work wonderful on these mats and are just as easy to clean off. The color vibrancy is better and my toddler needs no help from me. And there are more color choices (which at his age isn't necessary, but for older kids is a nice option). My Nephew (4yr) covered the ENTIRE mat in Red Crayola, very heavy handed, I think the thickness of the crayon on the mat was thicker than the mat itself, and it still washed right off with a baby wipe.

We have bought several of these color a mats for my 3 year old son and he loves them. We take them with us everywhere. We have some in the car and lots at home. We like using them when we go out to eat at restaurants and to other places where he needs to be occupied. These keep his attention very well, and have also helped to improve his coloring skills.
