We ordered this from Insect Lore. We ordered the fish eggs, searched the store to find the exact type of water they need (whole list of types you can not use), set it up exactly as instructed.......eggs did not hatch. Had to order another batch of eggs. Again set it up just as instructed and again no fish! The brine shrimp hatched but no kill fish. Very frustrating kit for a kid when all they are looking forward to is those stupid little eggs to hatch and they get nothing. The tank is a neat design, we will probably just go to the fish store for some guppies. Not worth the frustration for a 6yr old boy.

It is a good solid product, but taking the pieces apart once a model is made can be difficult. Some of the holes fit tighter than others. If this is for elementary school kids, they may have a tough time pulling it apart.

I really wish FP would do a second gen of this player! It has been the only one to live through 3 little kids! InnoTab 1st & 2nd gen broke quickly. MobiGo lived a lot longer, but not that much more! We still have 2 out of 3 iXLs working and the iXLs are the oldest of all these items! This game is a good one. Not all are, but the nice thing was you could install on as many as you wanted. You don't have to sell a kidney for your kids to enjoy this little marvel.

No long winded review. I just want to give my vote of confidence for this nifty little toy. I was a Batman kid (of the Tim Burton era) and now my 4yo boy is following suit. Batman toys abound in our small house, making walking dangerous to those who don't watch where they step. When my wife saw this, she snatched it up simply because of the Dark Night Rises motif. What she ended up doing was giving our boy what I believe is the most important toy he got this Christmas. For 2 years, he has played with a couple of Leapfrog computers that have helped him immensely with the alphabet and counting while engaging his concentration with VERY basic problem-solving puzzles. This product has taken that to the next step with more diverse and challenging games that should, in my estimation, keep him engaged for another two years. There are several games of basic arithmetic, spelling, and logic. Also, unlike the Leapfrog computers, the keyboard is laid out like a real one and not the alphabet in order (which was perfect for learning it) and there are a few keyboard-skill development games. Portability It's portable enough as is, however the screen can be removed for a different set of games in touch-screen mode.. novel. Gotta go.. wife screaming :)

Buy National Geographic Executive World Map Wall Mural

As some customers have already stated, the mural itself is very nice when you look at the quality.

My wife purchased this for a relative and when it arrived she set out to install with her sister, very craft oriented, and her mother. The instructions recommend professional installation. This is probably the way to go. Other wise in order to get a seamless mural you will be required to make a series of cuts from top to bottom in excess of the height of the mural, over 6 feet. There is a white border around all three panels, with the center panel requiring the removing of the white border. If you wanted a seamless fit, even more cuts would be necessary unless you don't mind overlapping panels, still requiring the two cuts. Difficult to do in the average home and get it right.

My wife requested a refund from the seller Swift Maps and got what I would consider a rude and condescending e-mail in return. Both my wife and I have both been in retail for a long time and the response was the type that a normal place of business would issue corrective action or termination for that kind of interaction with customers. The seller will only take the product back if it is "new resell-able condition", again hard to do once you have taken it out unrolled it and discovered the challenges that lie ahead.

My suggestion is buy it if you are having it installed professionally, or make sure you have the skills and tools necessary for a time consuming installation before ordering. My suggestion overall, skip this product, and certainly this seller. Horrible customer service.

My wife gave this to me for Christmas, though we had both wanted it for more than a year. We love it, and get great compliments from it. My impressions:

Pros (5 stars):

Beautiful. The day we had it installed we literally spent an hour that night admiring it and looking up different locations. My kids (4 and 2) love it as well. A previous reviewer said that it was too pink. Ours is a rich earth tone.

Educational. In an era where apparently a large percentage of high-school seniors can't locate the United States on a map (let alone any other countries), I look forward to using the map to help ensure my kids don't follow the same race to the bottom.

Practical and useful. Now that I have a large mural on which to plot and visualize (finished dimensions with a frame nearly 7ft x 10.5ft), my master plan for World Domination is now one step nearer to completion. Mwa ha ha ha!

Cons (collectively deduct one star):

Buying it is the easiest (and least expensive) part. Unless you are very experienced in hanging wall paper, I wouldn't try to install this yourself. Not only do you have to trim vertical white borders in order for the three panels to match up to each other, but the three panels were printed slightly askew relative to each other, meaning that you had to align them and trim them while hanging them. You also have to maneuver the panels on the wall to match up city names, borders, latitude and longitude lines, etc. We ended up finding a great installer who charged us $115, though most quotes we got were in the $250-300 range. We also purchased "chair rail" molding to install as a frame around the borders from the local hardware store, which took the look from cool to absolutely fantastic (or as my wife said, 'from nice but a little tacky to awesome and erudite'), but did add extra to the price.

Not absolutely up to date. Our map had information circa 2007, while I think smaller versions of this map are 2009 or 2010. That means if you're looking for the latest population data it won't be here. Ditto for trying to find South Sudan (at least as a separate country). Presumably they sell less of this version than the smaller versions, so don't update is as often.

Not any more detailed than the smaller sizes they sell. This is just a blown up version of the smaller NatGeo map, which means that 1) there is no more detail in terms of cities or other geographic information even though the expanded space could accommodate it; and 2) some of the print is slightly blurry when looking up close, and many of the longitude lines are somewhat pixelated. Not so noticeable as to detract from the overall presentation, but there nonetheless.

In all, a great map that I enjoy looking at and studying every day, and expect to do so for years to come.

Best Deals for National Geographic Executive World Map Wall Mural

If you are looking for a large sophisticated world map, look no further. I used to have the massive DOD 13 foot wide one in my old residence but chose this one for its nicer colors and more workable size. The 8 panel DOD map's detail is great but polar distortions are extreme and colors are too clinical if not grade-schoolish. Its also a little bit too huge for most rooms. The Nat Geo has superbly rich colors and is also highly detailed. Minus the shipping routs, I would say its as detailed as the DOD map. Includes such features as time zones, land/mountain elevations and sea floor/trench deapths and many more, such as airport marker locations. The top corners present the poles in magnificent detail, including which countries claim which areas. The bottom left and right maps show land use patterns and population density of the world. It even has small paragraphs in certain hot spots breaking down the current political situation as far as geography is concerned, as in the case of Taiwan. Everyone who has seen the map says it looks like a piece of art. Because so, I've even decided not to put pins in it. I trimmed the white boarders off which framed it beautifully. Hanging it was what you'd expect from a large 3-panel piece of wall paper. Not easy, but not terrible either. One person could do it if need be. I hung the 8 panel 8 by 13 ft DOD map myself with precise results). Using regular wall paper paste, it took my brother and I about three hours from trimming the boarders to the end. The hardest part was positioning it correctly on the wall which took a number of precise measurements, markers and observations. No rocket science. The top of paper itself was very durable and resistant to wetness so no problem or damage there. Be careful when smoothing out the bubbles on top though when mounting it with certain tools. You can remove small bits of paint as we did if you are too rough. It arrived in perfect condition, rolled up in a compact triangular box, nothing huge. I've renamed my guest room where the map hangs now as the "Atlas" room. It has not only changed the room beyond measure, but has elevated the whole stature and character of my house!

I had this map installed over the coffee service counter in a church that focuses on changing the world through missions and ministry. A pro wallpaper installer hung it and said it was good quality, and easy to hang. That being said, there was a lot of double-cutting, matching and trimming, so hanging it is not for amateurs. The pro cut "V" notches in the white "seam allowance" to be able to match the pieces before double-cutting with a sharp blade. It seemed to have a nice washable surface. The only thing that surprised me about the map was that the colors are MUCH more brilliant than the antiqued-look shown on the website. The colors are pretty saturated, so I painted the walls Benjamin Moore's "Cappuccino Muffin:#1155" and because all of the white border was removed, it looks wonderful! I had a black counter installed under it, and because the ceilings weren't that tall, the bottom of the map got trimmed off, but it made no difference because we still had the "important parts" exposed. Not only is it geographically correct, it is attractive. It created an exciting stir among the visitors and staff as they saw it going up. It has become the "focal point" people are drawn to as they pass the room!

This world map wall mural is not only a great learning tool, it is simply gorgeous on the wall. The thick, wipeable material has a slight sheen to it, and the mounting was just as described, as easy as mounting wall paper. The scale is just stunning, ours is in a smaller play room, so it takes up an entire wall, but in a large room this map would be beautiful as well. A huge and interesting art statement.

We have both this guitar and B. Toys' "Woofer" guitar (in the shape of a dog) and have really been enjoying them both (especially the ability to control the sound volume on each ha!). The LeapFrog Touch Magic Rockin' Guitar is the smaller of the two, and instead of "real" strings, it uses a touch sensor when you "strum" your fingers over the illustrations of the strings (which causes the guitar to play different chords corresponding to the song selected). There is enough variety in the songs so it seems like you're never hearing the same song for too long (unless your little one falls in love with a song and switches through the circle of songs to replay her favorite over and over...) with a variety of children's classics and Leapfrog original songs (which are a chilling mixture of catchy and annoying but they grow on you and you'll find yourself humming them in the elevator at work...). The B. Toys Woofer guitar seems to be a sturdier build (and much heavier) and the songs have funnier lyrics and the "real" strings are a plus and a minus. The Leapfrog guitar is very easy to hold and "rock out" with and the feature of a "clap" button has been a huge hit with our little rock star (as she likes to make it cheer for her after each song). The guitar sound effects are fun as well (but ask me again two months from now...). At fifteen bucks on Amazon, this was a really great deal -and I think your child will really be happy with either this guitar or the B. Toys version, which runs about twenty two bucks at target. I prefer the B. Toys one for it's creativity and the quality of the chord sounds but only by a small margin, and the lightness of the Leapfrog guitar and the "clap" button might swing me in its favor once I've had them both for a longer period to judge. You really can't go wrong with either (as long as you have built up enough "electronic toy sounds" tolerance). Note this frustration free package version really did come in truly frustration free packaging but it lacked the Leapfrog box, so might not be the best choice if your gifting the item (unless it's to a close family member).

Right off the bat, I was disappointed when I opened the box to find a flat decal on the face of the guitar. The whole thing is activated by 'touch' sensors, so there are no protruding buttons on the guitar! Lame! It looked like fun with all the different buttons and effects, but it looks more like one of those Paper Jamz guitars you get at Walgreens. LeapFrog recently launched a line of Touch Magic toys, with this guitar being one of the first items in the series.

The actual sound is pretty good. There are options for drums, crowd noise, vocals on or off, and guitar solos and flourishes. A nice range of options. It only comes loaded with 10 songs, but 10 is a lot better than just one song, over and over and over.

The flat face is the biggest letdown, but it is easy to wipe down. It also comes with a nice little guitar strap, and it is very lightweight overall. I'd say the general length of the guitar is about 18", just right for a small child, and its fairly thin, not bulky at all.

The original MSRP was $39.99 for this item, which I would say is outrageous, but at half that price, for a kid who loves playing with musical toys, it's not a bad deal.

I read another review that talked about the flat front of this guitar. I didn't think it would matter to my 2 year old, so I bought this anyway. Well, turns out it's a pretty big deal to her. She loves to play with musical instruments and recently suggested that we acquire enough to have "a real marching band," but it doesn't look like the Touch Magic Rockin' Guitar will be in the regular lineup.

It has an enticing, colorful appearance, and she couldn't wait to get it out of the package and strap it on (loves the strap!), but soon found that the flat buttons made it hard to play, so she kept laying it flat on the floor to use it. She might learn the buttons without having to look eventually, but at this point it doesn't look like she'll play with it often enough for that to happen. The instructions say to "touch" the buttons, and they do respond well to a light touch, but not as well to the heavy touch that a rockin' toddler uses, resulting in unintended repeats and skips. There is also somewhat of a lag in the response time with the buttons that momentarily makes it seem as if the button didn't do anything, creating more unintended repeats. So much for the featured "exploration of rhythm and tempo."

She was also disappointed that it does not have any strings and is not very guitar-like, really. She enjoyed singing along with the songs but didn't think accompanying them with electronic sound effects or strumming added much (the strumming, in fact, tends to drown them out), and she was disappointed that we couldn't queue up the songs to play her favorites in a specific order (you can only move "next...next..next" with the selector button).

In my opinion, LeapFrog is really pushing the definition of "educational" with this toy, as well. For example, the instructions emphasize that children will learn social skills by singing along and taking turns, which is not only pretty elementary but also pretty incidental to this toy (the songs "Having Fun Together" and "Taking Turns" are supposed to promote this; they were greeted with a few moments of listening and then ignored), and that playing "You're a Rock Star" will "strengthen children's understanding of the world." Seriously? And while we're at it, is the rock-star lifestyle actually the world view you're hoping to strengthen in your child anyway?

We have several other much-liked LeapFrog toys, but this one is a miss.

Learning Resources Power Polygons, 450 Pieces (LER7626) Review

These can be used to create pictures, patterns and designs, and I have found many other uses for them as well. Since they are transparent, I use them to show my kids what color combinations look like. For example, if you put a blue shape over a yellow shape, it makes green. This is a very hands-on way to teach many different skills. The pieces are also pretty and look amazing on a light table or when used with a projector.

I do wish the pieces were thicker, though. They are very thin plastic and remind me of CD cases. The corners are pretty sharp, so you have to be careful when reaching into the container to get the piece you want. Some of the pieces are also extremely small. That being said, it's not designed for toddlers, so that's not a real problem.
