These blocks are terrific for little ones since they are foam there is no danger of injury when the blocks fall and there is also no noise which makes them perfect for apartment living. My two year old loves the size and is thrilled to make very tall towers. I was unsure about which "jumbo" foam blocks to purchase but speaking now from experience, I highly recommend these. The thinner (less expensive) versions would be much harder to balance and the smaller ones wouldn't have the same impact. I also was torn between 16 and 32 quantity packs but at this stage/age, 16 is just right. It is surprising how much large foam blocks cost but after searching the internet, I was hard-pressed to find a less expensive source!

Our son is entering that stage were knocking down and building up blocks is a ton of fun. THese blocks are HUGE and yet soft and light and perfewct for him to crash into, roll around with and generally have a good time. Highly recommended!

This toy is great and so cute. My son puts it on his lap next to his daddy and tells us he is working as he plugs away at the little keyboard. Its educational which is wonderful and is a great aid for us as we are teaching him to read and write. HOWEVER there is no volume control to this toy and its loud. Its like Optimus just woke up, failed to have coffee, got an angry text from Starscream and is now tutoring your child angrily. Its so loud!! As mother, I like toys that have some volume control, first because I have other kids so when nap time occurs, I need quiet play and lastly because I am a mother and sometimes the incessant loud toys make mommy's ears bleed. This toy is really awesome and worth it but its loud. And the screen is really small. It reminds me a little bit of a calculator in a huge briefcase.

This was a gift for a child with special needs. He is responding like crazy! He loves the transformers look, and it makes it so easy for him to learn. He is progressing much faster than we hoped and it looks like he'll truly benefit from this laptop. I was glad to have found a good price with reasonable shipping on this truck. I saw it on ebay and decided it would be a good one for my garbage truck-obsessed son, but the price was too high and the shipping was insane for this large but not very heavy truck. This truck is nice because it is very sturdy and interactive. I also love that it doesn't require batteries (so I don't have to change them!) but does require a healthy imagination. There is no plastic in the windows around the cab so you can put your own drivers in.

What I love about this game:

durable material

the die is large, perfect for little hands

the actual board is made of large puzzle pieces putting them together was the first thing our son enjoyed at age 2.5 (though all the pieces seem to have the same exact size, so they don't have to be in order to fit)

no need to know numbers; the die has different colors, so as soon as your child knows colors, you can introduce this game

our son likes to play it at age 3; he now understands taking turns and how to advance the pieces

If I had to pick on something, it would be that the game clearly leads to a winner, which may not quite be age appropriate. We usually play it without keeping score.

While he won't yet sit through an entire game, our 2yo son enjoys the the little animal pieces and the oversized wooden die. He likes to play for 5-10 minutes, but we rarely get through an entire game yet.

PlanToys Shape and Sort Reviews

I really like that this shape sorter is made out of all natural rubber wood and focuses on 3 key shapes about which all children must learn relatively early. The design of the quick-release floor (blue) to drop the shapes to the ground is clever and is easy for a baby/young toddler to master.

My nearly 1-year old took to the toy right away. In fact, he's been so diligent putting the shapes into the spaces that he figured out how to fit the triangle into the square opening! It doesn't require much effort. Just hold the triangle upright (vertically) and angle it. It doesn't just fit into the space partially. You can drop it right in there.

This design and/or production flaw is extremely disconcerting, as naturally, now that my son sees the triangle can go into the square space, he doesn't always put the triangle into the triangle opening. Sometimes he uses the square opening. I wrote to Plan Toys about this problem and received a prompt response from a customer service rep, but she said she had to forward my comments to a group in Thailand and that I might not receive an answer to my specific complaint for up to a month. She offered to send me another toy of equal or lesser value, which is very nice, but I don't like the other shape sorters the company makes as much as this one. UPDATE ON 01-22=10: Still no word from the Plan Toys development group about the flaw in the toy.

In addition to the triangle issue, the wood on top of our shape sorter (where the openings are for the shapes) has started to split in two places and I had to remove the toy from my child's play area so that he doesn't get a splinter. Admittedly, my son bangs on the wood with the shapes pretty hard, but shouldn't that be expected?

There is great potential for this product. It just needs to be redesigned a bit.

My 13 month old took to this right away and probably 80% of the fun of this toy is being able to release the shapes on his own. He loves the springy leverthe secondary action of the toy. As a sorter it is kind of useless since BOTH the cylinder and the triangle fit through the square hole. Despite that he has figured it all out and can do it correctly. And he loves stuffing other things in the holes and springing them out with the lever as well.

It is a heavy toy so him carrying it around and flinging it has become kind of destructive, but that is how much he likes ithe carries it around.

This sorter is simply beautiful and my little one loves it! The whole thing is made out of solid wood and the edges are very smooth. The push-down mechanism to get the blocks out is simple and cleverly designed. We began playing with it at around nine months and we still enjoy it at fifteen months.

The one thing that keeps me from giving this sorter a perfect rating is that after some gnawing and mouthing of the blocks the color has become faded in areas. However, this still wouldn't keep me from buying the Shape and Sort again.

This is the best shape sorter. I have a three year old and a 16 month old and we have been through the gambit of shape sorters. This one holds my 16 months old attention and once he gets them in he can dump them back out all on his own without getting frustrated that the blocks won't come out. I would recommend this for anyone. Even I can't help but play with it when I am picking up the toys.

I got this to start my drawing interest a few years ago and it pretty much covered all the graphite I needed for a few months. Some I never touched since my style doesn't need them, but I made some good use of them. They're an alright brand for beginners, but I would cough up about 4 or 5 more dollars and get that turquiose graphite set from sanford.

Overall, a good graphite pencil set, but it's more worth it to spend a tad bit more for a way better set of pencils.

I never used the eraser, but the sharpener comes in handy when I can't find mine. Not sure how good the eraser erases...I use magic rub anyways.

I've been drawing for the past 25 years and while I'm by no means a professional or experienced with a variety of pencil brands, I've been frustrated lately with the quality of these Kimberly drawing pencils. I've gone through 4 pencils that range between 2B and 6B and every one of them have almost continuously presented something in the graphite. I'm not sure if they're bundles of binder or bubbles in the graphite, but every few seconds I experience a scratching and a lack of graphite "flow." I have to rub them vigorously on scratch paper to get rid of the impurity before I can begin applying the graphite smoothly and evenly again.

The four pencils represent pencils I've had in my collection for a couple of years, and pencils I purchased in the past week.

I'll be switching to another brand as soon as possible.

I did a lot of research before buying this. It's a very solid piece of equipment. I was concerned that the bulb might not be bright enough but it's fine for what I do. Certainly you could spend thousands of dollars and get something that's better but this inexpensive scope is all I need. I can't see anything wrong with it or anything to complain about. I'm very pleased with the quality for less than $300.

I'm glad I didn't spend any money on a darkfield kit. It's not necessary. You can make your own darkfield set up. I switch back and forth in seconds. All you need is clear piece of plastic and a small coin.

If you want to do serious darkfield work you'll need a better scope. This one is fine on 10 and 40 power, but the lighting isn't bright enough to see anything at higher powers.

As with everything from China, buyer beware. Just because I got a nice scope doesn't mean you will. I recommend the scope and believe the chances of getting something defecting is probably low but there's always a chance.

I recently purchased this game for my 3 1/2 year old who likes Chuggington most of the time and is obsessed with it the rest of the time. I'm a little disappointed overall with most Mobigo games because although the Mobigo itself is rated for 3 and up, many of the games are rated 4 and up and can have little glitches that make them hard to play. So, my son didn't really go for the Mater the Greater game or the Toy Story game. He does like the Super Heroes game (sometimes), but it's got some glitches.

In a nutshell, I've got a fairly hard-to-please kid when it comes to Mobigo games. Bottom line, this cartridge offers 4 games, and my son likes all of them.

The games are as follows:

Concentration: Typical memory game...the only glitch I've noticed is that sometimes, the doors to the train sheds don't come all the way up, so you can't see the trains to know where they are. Most of the time, though, the game works fine. Increasing difficulty is well-thought-out.

Wilson, Knowing Where You're Going: Problem solving...you have to move things out of Wilson's way, and although it sounds simple, it actually does a decent job of getting more complex as the game progresses.

Koko's Cargo: The Best Game!!! This is solving puzzles, and it really can get hard to do. You have to plan ahead and figure out where to put everything before you start. Since some games tend to top out and not get hard enough, I love that this one is challenging (on easy and difficult levels). Also, I like that the player can remove pieces and use trial and error fairly easily (without having to start all over again). This is my son's favorite game on this cartridge.

Brewster, No Time to Waste: My son's least favorite...you just pick up plastic bottles or paper waste and put them in the right bin. It doesn't take much to figure it out, but I am impressed with the increasing difficulty as the game progresses. This isn't one that readily lends itself to challenging material, but the designers do okay with it. As an aside, there's a really annoying end to the game where you have to wash Brewster and pop bubbles. His laugh makes me want to turn the volume down. It's bad.

So, overall, this was definitely worth buying, and I would buy it again. It would be nice if there were 5 or 6 games, but I really like the educational value of these games and that it is extremely user-friendly for a 3 year old. I showed him once how to play each game, and he took it from there. Also, there are few glitches, and all of the games are playable. Finally, one of the best features is how well the designers did in providing increasing complexity for each level.

This game is a blast for my 2 boys to play. Some options are to sort recyclable materials, learn the diffent functions of each type of the trains and engage on missions on the rails. My kids feel more confident after playing Chuggington and seem more aware of environmental stuff, like recycling their trash at home. This is not a baby game, Im very pleased with the educational values in each game and the varying learning engagements; really well rounded.
