Great information even for adults who have missed out on the financial knowledge that is needed in our current society. Geared for the young teenager, I found the drawings and illustrations likely more acceptable to the 12 yr old than the 17 yr old even through the narrative is appropriate for all. This is a shame as the older teenagers likely missed out and need to read it also.

This could be used as a text for homeschooling and appropriate high school classes.

I have read a number of books written by Jean Chatzky and was excited to see she has written a book about money for teenagers, "Not Your Parents' Money Book". Jean is the financial editor for the Today show and frequent contributor to other talk shows and media sourcres.

As part of the research for the book, she met with groups of kids at middle schools across the country and them questions about what they know about money and things they want to know about money. The book is peppered with questions from kids and her answers to their questions. Also included in the book are fun facts and quizzes about money.

There are chapters about earning money, spending money and saving money. She gives ideas of ways to earn money besides the regular babysitting and cutting lawns and discusses the different vehicles for saving the money you earn.

She also discusses and explains investing and ways to invest. Many of the money related words are highlighted in the book and defined in the glossary at the end of the book. So if there are words that you do not understand you can jump to the glossary and look it up. She also discusses the economy and recession, which may be words that kids hear about and may not know what they mean.

Also included in the end of the book are sections on the history of money and how money is made.

The book is concluded by a list of web resources for more information. The websites include informational websites as well as websites that have games and puzzles pertaining to money and finances.

As with other topics it may be easier for kids to learn if they do not think they are actually learning anything, making it fun to learn.

This is a great resource to teach kids about the important subject of dealing with money and finances. It is about 150 pages and a quick and easy read.

I liked this book because, as my 11 year old son and I were reading it together, I realized how little he actually knew about wages, credit, debt, investing, spending, saving...and they don't really teach this in schools. After a few chapters, he asked me to keep reading because he was truly interested in all these subjects. It has started a long and productive discussion about money that I'm sure we will continue for many years. I would definitely recommend this to tweens and teens.

My daughter laughed at me and didn't want to even touch this book, when I got it. I insisted that she reads every single page of this book.She did and ....right after she finished reading, her very first words were " can I get a job" :)

This mug truly has the look and feel of laboratory glassware. I really like it, in that respect.

Note that it's not a very good insulator, which has implications on both the temperature stability of the mug's contents and the potential for heat transfer to/from skin that may come into contact with the outside. Since I use it only for hot liquids and prefer to drink them at more lukewarm temperatures, I consider its heat conductivity a feature.

My only real complaint is that it's just a bit too small. The capacity is barely sufficient for me to fill it from the single-serve coffee maker in my office and carry it back to my desk without spills. And while the pour spout is a nice feature, I end up using it far more often as a "spill spout". :-[

Finally, there's the handle. As with the body of the mug, it's on the small side. It's a squeeze for me to fit 3 fairly large fingers in there, and then they're too close to the glass if the mug contains very hot liquid. I've found a way to hold it with two fingers my index finger hooked through the handle with my middle finger also curled but on the outside of the handle. This gives me stability and control, while minimizing the chance of accidentally touching the mug's body. I find this makes it relatively easy to avoid spills on the way back to my desk, so long as I keep an eye on it.

Prior to this, I had a much larger beaker mug of a different brand. It had the opposite problem of being too large. Its markings went to 350 mL, but probably held about 450 mL when filled to the brim. Its size presented a few logistical problems (coffee maker incompatibility among them). Even so, I continued to use it until I inadvertently discovered that, strong as it may be, borosilicate is no match for concrete (for v ~= 2.5 m/s). Rather than replace it with same, I opted to find a more practical size. I think I can now conclude that my ideal size would be about half way in between the two.

This is advertised as a kit, but that turned out to be true in a way I never expected. It does not require assembly. Instead, it comes with a variety of "trinkets" which can be inserted into the end of the kaleidoscope for an infinite number of effects. My granddaughter and I spent several hours experimenting with their trinkets and many small household items and toys.

Purchased this at a toy store while on vacation this summer for my 5 year old grandaughter. She loves it! And so do I!

The kit contains a sturdy hardboard cylinder in bright pink. The cover on the end can be removed so you can add all the neat sparkles included. Look around the house for even more fun things to add to make it your own creation. Great imagination builder.

I think it will hold up well if handled with care. It does say 7 and up, probably for that reason. However, my 5 year old can use this just fine on her own. She is very hard on her toys so just needs a gentle reminder to go easy. I bought 3 more from Amazon to give as Xmas gifts. I love kaleidoscopes and this is a great kit for all ages!

This is a terrific kit, and very reasonably priced. And it's made in the USA, so that's a big plus. The only two caveats I would give is that it needs strong light to really pop the colors-so outside, or near a bright window, is best for viewing. The second is that when getting the cap off to change the lovely things in the tumbler, adult supervision and care is advised, as just yanking off the cap can ruin the kaleidoscope. The cap needs to come off slowly and carefully, and ditto for replacing the cap. If you do this, it is quite durable and should last a long time. Little bits of ribbon and special clay or glass beads or shiny buttons can be added to the kit, the possibilities are pretty extensive.

I was looking for a fun and non-traditional V-day gift for my 2 daughters and their cousin (aged 3-7). Everyone loved these and the kids are still using them as well as the jewels for a variety of fun and games. I especially like the feature of sending the kaleidoscope with some items to put in but that can also be switched out or used in varying combinations.

I was disappointed in this as a gift to a 9 year old. The system to secure the batteries was solid, but poorly explained and we nearly disassembled the whole thing trying to figure it out. The clip needs to be stronger. Given the power of most head lamps I was also disappointed in the range this shoe light provided.

Have not given the shoe lights to my grandchildren yet saving till Christmas. However I know for certain they will love them. We live in Australia and recently took the girls on a wildlife walk in the dark, when they searched for small furry animals (woylies, kangaroos, etc) under bushes etc. The excitement level was enormous when just using a torch. I can't wait to take them again with lights on their shoes so they can look again and find all the creatures they missed. Know just by looking at the shoe lights that the kids are going to be ecastatic.

the die is large, perfect for little hands

the actual board is made of large puzzle pieces putting them together was the first thing our son enjoyed at age 2.5 (though all the pieces seem to have the same exact size, so they don't have to be in order to fit)

no need to know numbers; the die has different colors, so as soon as your child knows colors, you can introduce this game

our son likes to play it at age 3; he now understands taking turns and how to advance the pieces

If I had to pick on something, it would be that the game clearly leads to a winner, which may not quite be age appropriate. We usually play it without keeping score.

While he won't yet sit through an entire game, our 2yo son enjoys the the little animal pieces and the oversized wooden die. He likes to play for 5-10 minutes, but we rarely get through an entire game yet.

Buy VTech - Disney's Cars - Lightning McQueen Learning Laptop

My 4 year old fell in love with this laptop at a friend's house. I ordered it from Amazon.

My son was excited when he opened the box. Howeever, the laptop never worked both the "P" and "Enter" keys didn't function...very disappointing for a child.

I ordered a replacement and sent back the original laptop. Amazon issued a partial refund. After I fussed, they refunded the shipping fee but they still are charging me a $3.34 restocking fee, which I think is absurd. It isn't the money but the principle. Amazon claims it is because Vtech charges them this fee. I find it difficult to believe that Amazon would agree to such a term in a supplier contract.

When I asked Amazon how to provide feedback so they can renegotiate their ridiculous agreement with Vtech, the customer service rep told me to post a review under the product.

So, do I recommend the product? Our first "Cars" laptop didn't function. The second one works fine. Both my 2 & 4 year olds love it. As a parent, I fear the laptop will break again. If it breaks, I won't be getting a third.

My youngest is three and he absolutely adores his "laptop." He loves to sit next to his papa with his laptop, while I am working on mine. It works well, because as much as he has figured out on his own, he needs help sometimes.

This is a reasonably easy toy, but some of that is probably due to youngest having an older brother who has helped him learn his letters and numbers. It has worked well for reinforcing what he knows already and what he knows already has made it easier for him to use this machine to learn more.

I was a bit concerned about the durability, but it seems to be holding up well. Considering that I have seen him actually carry it by the "mouse" on a couple of occasions and it still works, I'd have to say that durability is unlikely to be a problem. All in all a great, heavily used toy at a great price.

I bought this toy for my 4-yr old son. I thought it would work good as a toy for him to play with on a long car trip we had to make. He loved it and I liked how it encouraged him to work on recognizing his letters and numbers. However it stopped working after just a few days. The toy comes with a one year warranty so I called v-tech to try and replace it. After an hour on the phone answering ridiculous questions like "did you try changing the batteries?" they finally agreed to sent me a letter authorizing me to send it in for repairs. So I had to mail it to their warehouse priority mail and insured, none of which V-tech will reimburse. After not hearing from them for weeks I get a package in the mail from them. It's a new laptop, which would have been nice except it's a different one, not the Cars 2 laptop! After a long conversation with their customer service I found I could mail it back in and they would send me the correct one. Of course they refuse to reimburse me for shipping again, and by this point I would have had to pay more in trying to ship the two laptops to them than I originally paid for the toy in the first place. So overall I liked the toy, but I can't recommend it because it didn't last long and the company was impossible to work with.

We have a 3+ year-old boy. A neighbor lady (we call her Aunty Linda) bought him a Disney Cars "Lightning McQueen Learning Laptop" for Christmas but we didn't open it until early February because Linda was away. Then the day came. Three of us were sitting around and the present was given to the little guy. Well, he loves presents. He was taken back by this one, however, and had little apparent reaction. We thanked our friend and put the boy and the present in his bedroom. After a little while, noises began coming from his room. He was playing with the computer. He was reluctant to go to bed that night.

The next morning he was up and working on his laptop. Just like Mommy and Daddy! Well, I watched and listened and I finally called Linda to let her know how her gift had gone over. Linda reminded me that there was a little instruction book that came with it and not to lose the book. Later in the day, I came in to visit him and help him with his new laptop. He said NO in a not uncertain way and pushed my hand away. That's the way it's gone ever since. When I come around, he turns the laptop off and shuts the lid and shoos me away. Funny! He's never been that way with any other toy, but on this one he wants to go it alone. He seems to be doing well, as far as I can tell. Trying to help him at this stage is impossible. I'm going to let him take it as far as he can and then step in to offer help. But I notice numbers and letters and symbols and all sorts of things for him to work with. I've just never seen anything that attracted more attention. It's amazing!

I might add that it seems to be quite durable. He drops it and tosses it around. I cringe, but it seems to do the toy no harm.

I got this ball to use in my High School remedial Algebra 1 class. I am always looking for different ways to review with them. It is a nice size inflatable ball, larger then I expected. There are 83 questions on the ball ranging from properties, to simplifying equations, functions, and absolute value and inequalities. Be aware, I found several errors on the answer key provided. Not too much of a big deal, since the answers are not printed on the ball, but something that should have been caught in a edit.

My son received this dog for his birthday and I have never seen him play with it. The coloring is just not the best for a dog and its all boxy or robotish. The string is too short for my one year old to pull around. I am going to guess the string is about 12". If you are looking for a great wooden pull toy I highly recommend the Plan Toys zebra. It is environmentally friendly, bright in color, and it's head moves when pulled-MUCH CUTER.

I think that this is a great toy. My daughter is 8 months old and loves pulling the dog, and loves even more watching someone else pull the dog all around her. She giggles with glee and chases it! There were a lot of reviews complaining that this toy was not exciting or looked like a real dog. How many pull toys actually look like animals. I am not one for bright over the top plastic toys that leave nothing to the imagination. If you like classic wooden toys that are painted with water based paints that are safe for your child, then this is the toy for you.

The only problem being that the string is very short so we tied extra string to it so it can be pulled along. Obviously the string is short for safety reasons. My son wanted to order this and I thought it would be a little creepy to willingly let ants come in my house, but now that it is up and running it is mesmerizing. It was really easy to put together and the instructions were very clear. It was really nice that the ants came with it and we didn't have to order them separately. 4M Quartz Mining Kit Review

Bought this for my 4 year old son and was amazed at how much he liked it. He spend a good two hours banging, scraping, and polishing to get all the stones (and if you have a 4 year old boy you know 2 hours of focus is a miracle). The brushes are a little useless but still fun. We have given several to friends as gifts and heard great things from all of them. There are a lot of stones in each block!!! The identification chart that comes with it is great for learning about the more common minerals. I highly recommend this for a rainy day activity or something easy to take on a vacation. Only caveat is that it makes a lot of dust. Either do it outside or make sure to put down something to aid in cleanup (and you may want a bath afterwards).

How anyone could leave a 3 star review is unknown, it came in a large 4 ft box with special protective paper and bubble wrap and not a single piece was broken. The glass was of perfect quality and is easily worked with a simple propane torch. I will be buying all my glass from Carolina from now on. This was just a sample order and I am more then satisfied. Super fast shipping by FedEx too.

Although I underestimated the outer diameter I needed, this was not the sellers fault. Came very well packaged, all of the 16 peices were perfectly intact. Well made pyrex. Also the package arrived via FedEx, earlier then expected by far. I would definatly consider purchasing from this company again. If I could give it a 6 star, I would.

I put "blowing glass" into amazon and pyrex is all that I could find outside of stringers some broken shards glass and a few molds.the shipping was fantastic and showed up a few days early and that's about the only part that really really impressed me.
