My son is 3 and loves playing this game. It took him a few times to really get it figured out but hes got it down now. There are some easy games on it and some harder games so it will still challenge him plus once he masters level 1 there is level 2! I am pretty impressed. The quality is not like a playstation or Wii but for the money its great for young children.

I'm using these for my elementary Montessori classroom and I really like them. There are enough details that the children can use them classify animals by size, biome, class, etc.

I've looked high and low for a handheld electronic game to help the granddaughter get a little more interested in her school work, but until I found the iQuest, it seemed that nothing would meet her age group needs or be able to compete with the games. Honestly, I am not sure how much she is still using this (six months later), but she raved about it in the beginning. I loved it when I took it for a "test drive" when we loaded the batteries. Had trouble putting in down! I definitely recommend the iQuest for anyone with kids grades 3-8 (even 2nd grade, actually). The programs are challenging, but not frustrating, and the "atta boys" when questions are answered correctly are not overkill (you know how some of them are almost condescending as far as older kids are concerned? Not a problem here!). The unit seemed very sturdy, but not "chunky" or unweildy. Very easy to use, and can be programmed with the child's name to address them directly.

Story is made very simple and easy for a toddler to follow and the illustrations are very nice. This book has made it into our nightly rotation for bedtime reading.

My 3 year old son has been reading since before he was 2. There just aren't enough religious books. So this one is a real treat. It does so many amazing sounds, soungs, etc.

My two year is a big fan of reading and I really love the leapfrog tag jr system for when Im not able to sit down and read with her.

This is one of the books I got for her at Christmas and she really enjoys it! The interaction really keeps her entertained. The only downside to these books that I can see is that even though the board book pages are pretty thick, my daughter has already "read" it so many times the edges of the pages are starting to fray.

This Tag Jr. book is really simple and to the point. The words paint a very calm atmosphere. While this particular book is not as interactive as most of the other Tag Jr. books, I am pleased with the retelling of the nativity story and the darling illustrations. This is one of my favorite Christmas books for my daughter because of its simplicity.

I am an elementary school teacher. Even though my family has officially banned anymore educational toys from my children's playroom (instead insisting on some "regular" toys), I just couldn't help myself. I love LeapFrog® toys. I have had my eye on the Tag since my oldest son was 2½, but finally at 4½ I feel he is ready for it.

This set includes six books: Long A, Long I, Long O, Long U, Y as a vowel, and a Review book. They are different from regular Tag books in several ways. There are no licensed characters featured in the set (e.g. Dora, Diego, SpongeBob). They are also paperback books. The biggest difference though is the educational substance of this set. With regular Tag books, a child has the option to play games (book-wide or page-wide games), have the entire page read to them (like a Story Reader), to point to the individual word and have it read, or point to any graphic on the page and have it do something. While these books have all of that, this set is additionally designed for TEACHING phonics. Each book page has three modes the child can choose from: Say It (default), Sound It, and Spell It. I will describe each:

' Say It just like regular Tag books, you put the Tag pen on an individual word and it will say it.

' Sound It (or phonics mode) sounds out individual consonants, vowels, or special grouped combinations (like "ea", "ou", "kn", etc) which are too difficult to explain efficiently in this learning format. For example: while running the Tag pen across the name Lily, it would sound out, "Llllll ih lllll eeeee, Lily." You will also hear things like, "this e is silent," and other phonics rules.

' Spell It self-explanatory

What makes this set so unique is the phonics mode. LeapFrog should incorporate it into all of their Tag books. The Long E sound is missing. Long Y could have been incorporated into the Long I book to exaggerate the point of their similarity ("spy" "sky" and "bike" "hike") to make way for a Long E book. Perhaps they left it out because E is not long "stand alone" and needs another vowel to combine with it to sound long ("feat", "bee", "sea", "ear"). Long E still has a functional sound and should be addressed for consistency's sake, especially given that the books include and acknowledge other vowel combos, and especially given that no vowel is long stand-alone without another vowel helper like the silent E (in June, huge, dune, rule, lone, cane) or within a vowel combo like (suit, fruit, bait, loan).

Also, each book does not make a point to EMPHASIZE the vowel sound they are trying to teach other than simply including a lot of words with that sound in the story. In my opinion, it should be exagerrated textually and phonetically so the child can make the connection. Overall though, this is a helpful set, I like it better than regular Tag books, and it WILL help your child.

One problem I personally find with most educational toys is the age rating. Age 4-7 and 5-8 are huge ability gaps (yet these are how the Tag books are age-grouped) and I do not think all books are appropriate within the full range specified. I especially notice this in the Tag Junior books which say they are for 2-4 year olds (which I bought for my 3-year-old and some of the books are appropriate for my 15-month old!). While the Tag Reader and Tag Junior reader are appropriate for the ages specified, Tag books should be more precisely age-rated perhaps 2-3, 3-4, 4-5, 5-6, 6-7, 7-8. Some Tag books are way over a 4or 5-year-old's head and some of the books are not challenging enough for 7to 8-year-olds. I bought some books for my 4½ year old that he enjoys listening to but cannot fully utilize yet, which is disappointing.

Unlike me, read up on the book content before buying and that should ensure you spend your hard-earned dollars on what your child will use NOW and not something that will be used in a year or two! Amazon, Wal-mart, and Toys-R-Us reviews are very helpful in this. HTH!

Excellent value for money. This set is currently not sold in the UK and I've had to purchase it through family in the States. A shame really as the books have allowed my daughter to excel in her reading skills in a very short space of time. I thereafter went on to buy the Long Vowels series and other Leapfrog Tag books and games. Excellent products for an enthusiastic child you loves learning. Would definitely recommend.

I bought these for my son who is learning how to read. He likes the book and "reads" them regularly with his leapfrog pen. They are paperback so I would recommend taking care of them and buying a hard case to store them in (we bought the leapfrog case that holds a lot of books and has a slot for the reader pen) or they may be damaged. These along with hooked on phonics seem to really be helping my child to read and he enjoys the freedom of being able to learn from them without an adult being there. If you have the reading pen and get these for a decent price they are worth the investment.

My son enjoys all of his LeapFrog products but I think he enjoys this best because he is recognizing his site words, learning the beginning and end of sentences, etc. All requirements for kindergarten in our area. Once again, LeapFrog gets an A+ in our household.

Pockets of Learning has some wonderful books, playsets & travel bags for kids! This one in particular is great for teaching the alphabet, animals, colors, dexterity, phonics & more! My daughter loves this & she's not even 2 years old yet! We work on pulling animals out of pockets & putting them back. We work on what sound each animal makes. Colors of each animal, colors of each letter, sound of each letter & of course the alphabet! Excellent teaching tool! Soft enough for even the youngest ones. Travels well. A great bonus is that Pockets of Learning replaces missing animals if you call the 800 number! The only drawback, in my opinion, is that the animals are kinda small & some are "posed" strangely to fit the pockets. "ABC Animal Train" would also be great for home schooling & daycare! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend all POL toys!

This product kept my 2-year-old busy during two 9 hour flights back and forth to Europe. She loves the animals and has learned all of their names. She is also using them for pretend play. I bought this for my daughter when she was 1 1/2 years old last christmas. She loves it, (and so do I). She still pulls it out to play with. Amazingly enough, we have never lost an animal for more than a few weeks. Since there is a space for each animal, it is a great storage too. You are able to see if you have everything when it is put away. Which leads to another great part about this toy, my daughter LOVES to put all the animals back in their "garages" (as my daughter calls it). Very soon after we bought this, she was memorizing her letters and telling me what each animal was. Since they all have matching letters on the animals and their "garages" it helps the younger ones find out where each goes. I can't say enough good things about this. I hate to buy toys that get put in the toy box and never get pulled out again. But this one has definately kept her attention. When you put that with the educational opportunity, how can you resist it? It is cute! Oh and you know how you get tired of playing the same toys with your children? This one is fun for the adults too. I forgot to mention one of the most important details. There is a form you get with the toy to order more animals if you lose any.

I got this for my nephew, cause, as all little kids are, he's totally into dinosaurs. LOVES them. He's always digging for fossils, and every rock he finds, is a fossil (altho he knows they're really not). Anyhow, i got him this, cause as a budding paleontologist, he has to start somewhere. He opened it as his birthday present and was super excited about it. He started "digging" out the dino with his mom, but when dad got there wanted to finish with him. He dug out all the bones and assembled them and has since told me that next he wants triceratops. He has his fully assembled dinosaur on display in his room. He is very proud of it. And I will get him the triceratops for xmas.

If you have a budding paleontologist, or even just a kid that loves dinos, i recommend this. My nephew got great enjoyment from it, and therefor i got great enjoyment from it.

The box says "8" years i believe, my nephew is five. His use of the product was closely monitored by an adult, and the end product is an incredibly cute, accurate (albeit small) soft flexible reproduction of a t-rex

This is long, but you will know everything that you need to know:

PURPOSE OF PURCHASE:

My daughter had just turned 11 months old. I was looking for a fill-and-spill toy that she would not outgrow as quickly as many other baby toys and I was hoping for something that she would use for creative play for the next couple of years. We were skeptical at first because we felt that, although the price is reasonable, we still did not want to throw away $20 and she might not care for it or it may be a little mature for her.

I am so glad that we bought it. It was the last of the gifts that we bought for her first Christmas, and I just know it was meant for her to have.

DESCRIPTION:

Everything is made of hard plastic, except for the checked "blanket" which is like a handkerchief. The basket is packed pretty full with everything inside, but she can easily fit it all back in without help. She loves carrying all of the pieces around in her little hands. (There are many pieces and you don't want them lost!) The full basket is a little heavy for a baby. She did not carry the entire basket around until recently (14 months) and still prefers not to, but she has always taken it off of her toyshelf and sat with it closeby in the floor. I can watch this thing growing with her. She likes to put the food pieces and forks in her mouth. And she LOVES the sounds it makes when the lid opens and closes. She loves the songs that it sings, and let me tell you, the voice is too cute and sweet. She dances while she plays and tries to sing.

POSITIVE:

I love it because it is easy to wipe clean (even though I haven't had to clean it yet), it is durable, it is fun, adorable, AND VERY educational!!

I had not realized before she started playing with it, but it teaches manners (saying please & thank you) and some prepositions, such as: put one cup IN the other cup, spread the blanket ON the ground UNDER the tree...a picnic WITH my friend. It sings the colors of the rainbow. It counts up to four often. It sings short songs about how many sides each shape has, and each of the three foods on each plate is a different shape (triangle pie slice, square cracker, circle orange slice). It asks you to find each shape. The plates are similar to wooden puzzles (only plastic), and she is learning to put the foods in place.

She also LOVES music, and this thing is constantly singing. It even reminds you to push the butterfly button to hear a song. She can play with this toy 100% by herself, and I know that she will not outgrow it any time soon because it is also my favorite of her toys. And when her cousins (4yrs & 11yrs) came to visit, this is the toy that they played with for 2 hours straight! She plays with it more than any other toy (and she has too many toys). We have never had to replace the batteries since she first got it.

NEGATIVE:

The cups are not intended to hold liquids. They each have two holes in the bottom that you could almost stick a pencil through. I like that she will have to use her imagination and also I will not have to worry about the inside of the picnic basket getting sticky with juice and I am glad that ants will not be stored in there. (But some people would rather have usable cups, and if your child tried to use them, it would be messy, so I thought I would mention this.)

The only real negative that I can find is that the talking basket may ask you to find the triangle, but it has no way to know whether you found it, so it does not correct you or praise you. It never responds or gives hints or anything. So basically, it just randomly asks your child to find things, but she may never know if her answer was correct (or wrong!). Therefore, I recommend that Mommy plays with her.

BOTTOM LINE:

I say it is well worth every cent (and more)!

this is a great toy! very durable, bold colors. everything fits into the basket so it's easy to store and not lose pieces. My 18 month old daughter loves playing pretend and this is a great toy for her. Plus, all the food is a shape that fits in it's on spot on the plates, like a puzzle. It helps her with shapes, colors and I can get her to clean up when she's done. And she loves carrying this around the house.

I have never written a review before, but had to for this toy. My 2 1/2 year old daughter and 11 month old son play with this toy constantly and fight over it so much so I am thinking about buying another one. We have more toys than anyone I know. I know the good, bad and easily broken ones on the market. This toy has everything you'd want for your kids.

I got this for my 4-month-old and she loves it still (she's now 7 months). She hasn't been enthusiastic about other soft toys, whether they make noise or not, but there's something about the texture and shape and sound of this one that she loves. The body is just about the right size for her to grab comfortably (it was a little big when we first got it), it's easy for her to make the sound and she enjoys that a lot, and the plush is made from bamboo viscose that has a really smooth texture that's a little velvety but not too plushy. She also likes to mouth the little nubs and ears. :)

Only reason I give 4 stars is that I've read that the process to make viscose from bamboo fibers is not at all environmentally friendly, and that matters a little to me, and also seems to be a little counter to this company's philosophy/image.

It is cute, and the bamboo fabric is nice and soft. It states it's organic product, and it made me feel safe even the baby put it into its month. The sharker sounds ok, but I think the price is a little bit high. The negative thing is the sound is not loud enough. Your baby need to use it in the quiet enviornment, not good to play when in the street.

I really like that this shape sorter is made out of all natural rubber wood and focuses on 3 key shapes about which all children must learn relatively early. The design of the quick-release floor (blue) to drop the shapes to the ground is clever and is easy for a baby/young toddler to master.

My nearly 1-year old took to the toy right away. In fact, he's been so diligent putting the shapes into the spaces that he figured out how to fit the triangle into the square opening! It doesn't require much effort. Just hold the triangle upright (vertically) and angle it. It doesn't just fit into the space partially. You can drop it right in there.

This design and/or production flaw is extremely disconcerting, as naturally, now that my son sees the triangle can go into the square space, he doesn't always put the triangle into the triangle opening. Sometimes he uses the square opening. I wrote to Plan Toys about this problem and received a prompt response from a customer service rep, but she said she had to forward my comments to a group in Thailand and that I might not receive an answer to my specific complaint for up to a month. She offered to send me another toy of equal or lesser value, which is very nice, but I don't like the other shape sorters the company makes as much as this one. UPDATE ON 01-22=10: Still no word from the Plan Toys development group about the flaw in the toy.

In addition to the triangle issue, the wood on top of our shape sorter (where the openings are for the shapes) has started to split in two places and I had to remove the toy from my child's play area so that he doesn't get a splinter. Admittedly, my son bangs on the wood with the shapes pretty hard, but shouldn't that be expected?

There is great potential for this product. It just needs to be redesigned a bit.

My 13 month old took to this right away and probably 80% of the fun of this toy is being able to release the shapes on his own. He loves the springy leverthe secondary action of the toy. As a sorter it is kind of useless since BOTH the cylinder and the triangle fit through the square hole. Despite that he has figured it all out and can do it correctly. And he loves stuffing other things in the holes and springing them out with the lever as well.

It is a heavy toy so him carrying it around and flinging it has become kind of destructive, but that is how much he likes ithe carries it around.

This sorter is simply beautiful and my little one loves it! The whole thing is made out of solid wood and the edges are very smooth. The push-down mechanism to get the blocks out is simple and cleverly designed. We began playing with it at around nine months and we still enjoy it at fifteen months.

The one thing that keeps me from giving this sorter a perfect rating is that after some gnawing and mouthing of the blocks the color has become faded in areas. However, this still wouldn't keep me from buying the Shape and Sort again.

This is the best shape sorter. I have a three year old and a 16 month old and we have been through the gambit of shape sorters. This one holds my 16 months old attention and once he gets them in he can dump them back out all on his own without getting frustrated that the blocks won't come out. I would recommend this for anyone. Even I can't help but play with it when I am picking up the toys.

We've only had this toy for a week, but we love it so far. My son is only 9 months old, and he can't put the shapes in yet, but he loves releasing the toys and I'm sure will grow into enjoying all the aspects of the toy.

This is a cute storage bag for storing up to 6 Leapster explorer games and the handheld console itself. Or you can store 5 games and the camera attachment. Well made the price I paid for it was far better than places such as Walmart and Toysrus.
