My 26 month old loved the alphabet so we just bought this one to supplement for numbers and counting. It is just as good. The only difference is that there are actual grooved cutouts (like a puzzle) to put the numbers into whereas the alphabet does not have that. Other than that, the quality of the letters and cards are top notch like every other Plan Toy we've owned. We look forward to lots of play and learning with these.

I ordered these for my 3 year old daughter to help her work on her number recognition.. They are very good quality. The numbers are wood and different colors. And the pages are thick and have a groove for the number to fit into. They also come with a bag to store which is very good since there are small pieces to lose. I would buy this again. And I am going to buy the letter version as well!

Was hesitant to order this because of price and durability of some of the other Plan Toys things we have. This is the first numbers thing we've bought that our twins are actually excited about. Something about pulling the numbers out of a bag, numbers perfectly sized for their hands and then having something to match them with. The quality is excellent -very strong, smooth numbers that fit into very thick cards. We have the Plan Toys nesting bowls that were of thinner wood that breaks easily. These numbers seem very tough to snap. Super pleased.

There are so many fun possibilities for learning numbers: use it as a puzzle, trace the numbers, draw the numbers from the bag, counting, etc. Absolutely great for my 2.5-year-old!

Unfortunately, our first set arrived with two of the same cards, while another card was missing--not going to work! Amazon was AMAZING and sent us a replacement two days later. The second set had some issues too, so it's a good thing we had two sets to choose the right pieces from!

We homeschool our three children. I really like the Montessori method, but finding well made Montessori learning toys that are afordable is not an easy task! This toy was made in Thailand. Several of the games borrow from each other by simply replacing letters with numbers, but overall there's a lot of variety here. My kids have been learning quite a bit from it and are even speaking some simple spanish! (I think it teaches 6-8 small phrases in total)

The computer talks and gives instructions for each game and the volume is adjustable (we have ours set on the lowest volume and its still fairly loud). There's an "answer" key if they get stuck and a "repeat" button if they don't catch what the computer said. There's a "mouse" connected to the computer but it doesn't serve as a traditional mouse. There's an alien on it that shifts up, down, left, right and his head serves as button. This is mainly how selections are made; no arrow keys on the keyboard. This was probably the hardest thing for my 3-year-old to grasp, but after watching his 4-year-old sister (who also enjoys the toy) do it he caught on fairly quick.

I have to say that I was taken back by the small screen size (roughly 2 x 3 inches despite the large size of the computer) but the kids don't seem to have a problem with it. Also the screen isn't backlit, so there has to be plenty of light to see it. Other than that, no complaints.

Something that I've been very surprised with is the durability. I've caught my boy dragging the computer across the floor by the mouse cord several times and it still works perfectly. Also, the top flips open when Buzz's head is pushed down but both of my kids for some reason insist on "forcing" it open themselves. I say "forcing" because it opens fine with a little tug and hasn't affected it latching down. Overall, I'm very impressed with the durability and am happy its still working despite all the abuse.

They don't play it every day, but 9 months later they still get it out fairly regularly. Highly recommended.

I will say, without hesitation, that this is the best electronic toy we've ever bought for my son!! He's 4 1/2....and loves this!! You will need to invest a few minutes "teaching" the child how to use it.......the mouse is really geared up for a small child.

It will take your child a month to work through all the activities! It's loaded with stuff!

The toy arrived broken but because I purchased it for Christmas at the end of October start of November, I can't return it due to Amazon return policy. When the toy arrived the batteries were dead. I examined the toy and all seemed well except for the dead batteries, which I had planned on replacing Christmas day. On Christmas day, I removed the packaging and pulled out the battery tab on the back of the toy. The laptop came to life. Then I made the mistake of closing the laptop. Now, it won't open at all. Which I find weird considering the whole time the laptop was closed while wrapped. To open the laptop, you must push on the bubble that contains Buzz and the laptop should pop open. We tried everything to open it including a screw driver and knife but all failed. The toy is just stuck closed. I'm disappointed but not nearly as much as my four year old son who keeps asking "Mommy, why did Santa give me a broken toy?" I have made several attempts at contacting Vtech but I just get the run around. Amazon return policy is difficult (short) and Vtech is unresponsive. Looks like we ate this purchase.

Cheap Guinness World Records Reading Book; 128 pages; Grade 5; no

I bought this book today as I was looking for some reading comprehension text books to compliment my 9 year old son's curriculum. The fact that the book is by the "Guinness Book of Records" publishers appealed to me immediately. My son devours these books and others with a similar theme.

The inside page of the book states the following:

"Guinness World Records Reading is divided into five themed units, with each unit highlighting incredible achievements in a specific category. Some of the records are exciting, some are unsettling, and some of them are just plain unbelievable but, they are all extraordinary!"

and

"Each passage about a Guinness World Record holder is followed by questions that target such basic skills as recalling, summarizing, understanding the main idea, making connections, and drawing conclusions."

I bought this for my son's third birthday. He's already an avid entomologist. The larvae arrived just as expected already shedding its skin, which each one did multiple times. It was fascinating for my husband and me as well. The three of us found ourselves glued together watching these amazing creatures as the larvae shed it's final skin and entered the pupa stage. Several days after the fully-formed ladybugs emerged (they were yellow at first), we set them free into our back yard. They have a distinct appearance which is slightly different than the ladybugs we're accustomed to seeing around here. Therefore we have been able to easily identify them when we come across them in our yard.

We received about 14 or 15 ladybug larvae and all survived to become ladybugs except for one, which I consider to be pretty impressive. The container was especially effective because my son was not able (or tempted) to manhandle to ladybugs, yet it was easy to keep the water filled with the specially designed lid and water tube. We had an excellent view of all the events taking place inside. I would recommend purchasing books to go along with this. We had four different simple books relying upon excellent photographs and easy-to-understand descriptions. This heightened my son's (and our) anticipation and helped us to better understand what was happening.

I can honestly say that this has been well-worth the price we paid for it. Soon we're going to get a refill kit of ladybug larvae and begin anew.

My 4 year old daughter is a ladybug nut. We got this for Christmas and sent away for our larvae which come in a tube in the mail with all the food they need. Even the adults were fascinated watching the larvae turn to pupa and then to ladybugs. The customer service was very helpful when we called because our bugs stopped doing anything. They told us the bugs were "dormant" because it was too cold in my daughters room. We moved them to a warmer spot and within 30 minutes had ladybugs!! Definitely worth the cost. It is clean and sturdy thank goodness! Although the inside does get slightly messy (of course). We loved it.

My sister ordered this for my 11 year old daughter. We promptly ordered the larvae with the understanding that they would not mail them until the weather conditions were agreeable. We ordered them in Texas in August so when we didn't get them for a couple of months, we thought it was still too hot. Finally about 4 months after we ordered the larvae (and had received nothing), I called the company. Firstly, they acted like I was crazy for not having called them sooner and/or was lying about it. They asked for proof of purchase. I said I had our half of the postcard that we used to order the larvae. They asked that I fax a copy of this to them. (Still felt like they thought I was trying to pull some scam!!) We then received a mailing tube of what appeared to be dead larvae. We went ahead and followed all directions to the letter. Nothing ever moved, lived or developed at all. I faxed a copy of the original card again telling them that everything was dead when received and/or died in transit. That was at least 6 months ago and they never even responded. Don't waste your money on this. Sadly, the company is not at all interested in the children that are disappointed. Every time I look at that empty habitat (kinda cute actually), I'm furious at a company that doesn't care that my 11 year old (now 12) got a useless gift that should have been a good gift! Shame on Insect Lore!!!

We received 16 larva eaxcatly when we requested them and all have survived as far as we can tell. My 6 year old and my 3 year old loved watching the larva walk around and now love the pink ladybugs. It was particularly interesting for them because we had a few larva, a few pupa and a few adult ladybugs all at the same time. I even brought this in to my daughter's 1st grade class and had a mini-lesson with the kids. The teacher says they're still talking about it. This is well worth the money.

Look online for a free Cuisenaire Rod pre-Miquon primer that's great for introducing the values of the rods and concepts behind them.

These were not exactly the same length as each other. Defeats the purpose! Also, they came warped slightly and they warped more over time. Totally annoying to try and use these with the Miquon Math program. Save yourself much trouble and buy the traditional wooden or plastic ones. If you must have the connecting aspect, buy Unifix Cubes instead.

Would not buy again.

My hands on learner really benifited from this hands on tool as he was learning math. Don't know how I would have taught him otherwise. These are so helpful. Only wish I would have gotten the larger set!

We own many Leap Frog products, and this one is not my favorite. First, it is very easy for the child to adjust the volume on this toy. There are two settings: low (incredibly loud) and high (cover your ears). If you purchase this toy for your child, make sure that they play with it outside or at the other end of the house. Let's just say that if you give this as a gift, the child's parents will not be happy with you!

The bus plays "The Wheels on the Bus" song as expected, and my daughter likes to honk the horn. There are raised alphabet letters on the sides, that when pressed, will say the letter names or sounds. There is one game that does not work well on our bus, "Find the Letter". The bus will say "Find the letter G". The problem is that the bus' volume is so loud that you can't tell if it wants you to find a G,Z,B,D,C,E,P,or T. This has been very frustrating for my toddler! She's good with letter recognition, but can't find the right letter because she can't understand which one it wants. I can't understand it either.

Our 10 month old enjoys this toy with the sound off. But when I turn the sound on, she cries. It scares her!

Parents, keep looking. There are better Leap Frog choices out there.

I bought this for my son a few years ago because he loved buses, but I was soon sorry I did. It was very loud and annoying, and he stopped playing with it after a short while. The characters tell annoying, stupid jokes over and over, and worst thing was that it kept saying "Push one of my friends"a GREAT thing to tell a kid to do. Of course they meant one of the "friends" on the little bus, but I'm not sure if my son realized that! I tried to contact the company to complain about that one, but they never responded.

We bought this toy for our 10 month old because he loved the song, "Wheels on the bus". He loves it! He is now 18 months and still plays with it. At the beginning he just played with the buttons that made the song come on and the animals. As soon as the song came on he would smile and dance! As he got older he became more interested in the alphabet buttons. Now he imitates the sounds of the alphabet and some of the animals. He also pushes it around with his other cars. I am online buying one for my niece for Christmas. This toy has brought many smiles to my husband and I as we watch our son get so excited over it. Only drawback it is just the first verse of the song.

My just turned 5-yr old LOVED this present. You can save up to 3 different phone numbers with personalized recordings of your voice. She had her home number memorized within an hour. Now we're working on mom and dad's cell phones. One drawback is you must press 'talk', then dial the number, then press 'talk' again. This is confusing compared to a real cordless where you just press 'talk' once. Also, I think she's fairly convinced that the other pre-programmed phone numbers (such as to the library) are REALLY what she is supposed to dial to reach the library. When you dial 911, it says 'this is the fire department' and you cannot reprogram it. We hoped to replace that with '911, what's your emergency' which is what our local 911 says.

I really liked that this toy had a programmable feature so that I could teach my autistic son our home phone number. However, it does not allow for programming the area code, only the 7-digit number. But as a basics teaching tool, it works great. Seems to go through batteries quickly, which can be quite frustrating for my son. But it has withstood a lot of "torture" from my rough-and-tumble boys.

**Update**

This phone lasted about one year, then lost the "connection" with the base and the handset didn't make any sounds when you pushed the buttons. It lost the ability to record a message within about 2 months. Great concept just not great for my boys.

I really analyzed the reviews for this phone and the other teaching phone from Learning Resources before I decided to buy this one. I liked this one b/c the places you can call are all normal businesses around any town (bike shop, bakery, grocery, pizza shop, etc). The other phone had some strange numbers to call like "Aunt Gladys who asks you to come over and see her new puppies". I didn't like the sound of this, for one they don't have an aunt gladys and secondly it sounds kind of like a ploy that I would want them to avoid in real life from a stranger. This phone doesn't have a cord and the other one did. You can program up to three numbers in this phone and leave messages (so that they can learn your number, their home number, daddy's cell, etc and if they dial it correctly the hear your voice recording). My cons are, the handheld phone device is a little wide for small hands. Also it could be designed better for the handset to sit in the phone, it is slightly tricky to set it in ( a little too shallow). Great for learning numbers and understanding how to dial and how a phone works. Fun for pretend play.

My granddaughter knows all her letters in caps and loves to sing the alphabet song. i ordered this to show her what the lower case letters looked like. It didn't take her long at all to be able to recognize which cap the lower case letter goes with. it's colorful and bright and easy for little hands to work with.

This is a winner. The wooden base and pieces are durable and colorful. It's a great way to introduce toddlers (mine are 3) to lower-case letters and to the concept of right-side-up. The letters have small stripes, dots or grids of a different color to help the younger set get the letters right side up, plus they get accustomed to seeing lower-case letters as well as the standard block capitals. Nicely designed toy. Our twins usually choose this as one of the fun things to play with at Mimi's hoouse.

My three-year-old daughter loves wooden puzzles but had grown tired of the typical sixto ten-piece ones. I spotted this and it was perfect, because she's had trouble learning her lowercase letters. She takes it out every night before bed and puts all the letters in their place--sometimes backward, sometimes vertically, sometimes by color; it's all a game to her. And she's learned the letters. Granted, kids aren't going to know what they are or the sounds they make unless parents show them, but it's a great tool for parents and kids to enjoy together.
