A good example of how a battery works, also wiring is easy but interesting. Well worth the effort to assemble, make sure and "deburr" as stated in instructions.

Lamaze Cheese Sorter Early Development Toy Review

I love, love, love this product!!! This is a toy that will last through the developmental years with a child. The cheese sorter is soft and has a crinkle sounding bottom. The mice make different rattle and squeeky sounds when you shake or squeeze them.

My son started out just feeling the texture of the toys and then started carrying the mice around and is now trying to put the mice into the sorter. It is great for child development!

My baby loves this toy! The bright colors and different textures really appeal to him. He will pull the mice out and play with them for awhile if he gets bored with the cheese. Good travel toy. very good product.

I purchased one of these, honestly ,for myself because I thought it looked neat. I was surprised with how fast it walks, and it handles at least low pile carpeting fairly well, plus you can see more of the internal mechanics so get at least a small idea of how it works. Can easily see why the Hexbug line has gotten so far.

In short, I highly recommend it, only thing I wish is that the LED "eye" stayed on to show direction.

I bought this toy for Christmas for my 11 year old nephew, it was a hit. I got a call saying thank you and got a video of just what it does. It is very smooth with it's motions, it looks and acts like a bug and is very creepy. Everyone was having fun with this toy, even adults enjoyed this toy. I recommend it for anyone who loves robots, bugs, or crawly creatures of any kind. This is a great toy!

I have not tested the item itself, but was extremely disappointed that it came with the packaging all beat up. The plastic container it was in was broken, and it was taped shut. The item was supposed to be new, but definitely did not look that way!! This was particularly disappointing because I had planned to give it as a gift the next day.

My 6 year-old son saved up his birthday money to purchase this Hexbug Spider, and he has not been disappointed. The multi-directional walking and the tiny remote made this a great toy, in his opinion.

Like all the Hexbugs, this has small moving parts and is meant for kids old enough to be somewhat gentle when playing with it. I'm not sure how durable it is... I can't imagine that it would survive too many falls on a hard floor without some of the tiny pieces breaking. My son has been taking extra good care of it (his lives in a metal lunch box with his other Hex bug) since he spent his own money on it, though.

I'm not sure it has any real educational value, though he's had fun experimenting to find out which surfaces the spider will and will not walk on. (Kitchen floor= yes. Wrinkled bedspread= no.)

Overall, it's not a toy that appeals to me as an adult, but my 6 year-old loves it, and that's really all that matters!

I bought this one before my baby was born and he was just enthralled with it from day one. Whenever I pushed down on the star and the thing lit up, he just was mesmerized by it. Then, he decided that, being the engineer that he is, he'd rather play with it without the stars on it so he can see how it works. He just loves that! It's just so very pretty when it lights up and it also teaches coordination. He still plays with it and he's now three. Definitely a fanstastic purchase, one that can withstand having food dumped on it, being tossed onto the floor numerous times, you name it and it is still just like new.

This is my son's favorite toy, and for eleven bucks that's quite a deal. He literally can play with this toy for hours if given the opportunity. He's learned to press the button on the top that plays the music, and as soon as he does, he looks at everyone in the room and gives them a "look how smart I am" smile. It's hilarious! He's just now learning (at 12 months) how to put the stars back on the base. He couldn't do this a couple of months ago; he could only get them off, so it has grown with him. I put scotch tape over the speaker because there is no volume control and it can be quite loud. The tape still lets the tunes be heard, but now I don't have to talk over it! My mother is a daycare provider and she also has this toy, and her children love it, too; they even fought over it until she bought another one. That means I know of at least three children who can't get enough of this toy. It's worth its weight in gold!

Our 11 month old has been playing with this toy since he was 6 months old. He really likes the lights, sounds and music. However, I was disappointed that the stacker is shaped like a cylinder so you can put the stars on in any order you choose. So it does not teach children that the big star goes on the bottom and get smaller as you go up. Also, the star that goes on top is cute, but it almost never gets used in conjuction with the stacker. It didn't take long for our baby to figure out that you just have to press the button on the top to get the music to play.

Yes, this plastic case will most likely extend the useful life of that iPad mini. Bright blue shines in the dark; fit is so tight I don't know if the mini will ever escape; handles enough for an octopus to be satisfied. I have a 17 month old baby boy and this allows him to hold the ipad mini with ease and he has dropped it several times while toddling around, and it keeps the ipad mini all in one piece. Side handles are the best especially when we reading together while lying down. Only problem is the crevice for the earphone plug is too snug making it hard to pkug and unplug. Otherwise, the rest is all great. And the blue color is perfect with the white ad mini.

Cheap Lamaze Cloth Book

The Peek-a-Boo Forest book (designed for ages 6m+) is very cute. Has very bright colors, and peek-a-boo flaps that lift away on each page to reveal a cute animal (e.g. move the tree to see the moose, move the leaf to see the owl, etc.). There are five two-page spreads each asking "Who is hiding behind the [tree or whatever]?" on the lefthand side, then revealing an animal beneath a crinkly flap on the righthand side. The featured animals are a moose, an owl, a bear family, a raccoon, and a beaver. The front cover also features a bird with a raised, fuzzy, crinkly face. Between the bright colors, the repetitive peek-a-boo activity, and the simple text, this seems very age-appropriate for my 6mo old. And more importantly, he agrees he loves it!

My baby is 7 months old and he's learning to sit while trying to grab whatever in front of him and put it in his mouth. I bought this book because I wanted to introduce him to a concept of "book" while at the same time let him play or chew on it.

So far, my baby likes this book. He really gets entertained by the different color pages (there are 5 pages), crinkly material and short sentences. Material is really nice, easy to clean I just toss in the washing machine along w/ all the baby clothes. The thing I like the most about Lamaze is the size; This book is larger than usual cloth book (larger font size as well). So, very nice for clumsy baby hands and developing eyes. At first I thought the book is pretty expensive however after receiving this book in the mail, I think it's worth the price. I even ordered another one of different story.

Not the best cloth baby book out there, however the story is cute and the characters are adorable. My reason for three stars is the lack of different textures in this book. if your kid likes crinkly stuff this is all about it, but thats the majority of the textures. I recomend Squishy Turtle and Friends over this because each page in that book has a new tactile sensation.

Soft, colorful book with crinkly peek-a-boo pages. My 3.5 month old hasn't been interested in too many of his toys yet, but he did take to this book immediately! While reading I can see his interest in the colors and the crinkly noise the peek-a-boo pages make. The book is light enough for him to hold and he enjoys putting the pages in his mouth. Cute book and I'm glad he liked it!

Update: 9/12/11

I've washed this book twice so far and no fading or changes! Baby is now 5.5 months and still loves the Peek-A-Boo Forest. In fact, we don't even need the book to entertain him. We just recite the peek-a-boo rhymes whenever baby is down in the dumps (aka: crying in the car) and he perks right up, smiling/giggling at each peek-a-boo mention :)

I was so happy to find this book. Finally, a soft, textured book that has more than 2 pages to turn! The soft Priddy books, e.g., Squishy Turtle and Fluffy Chick, have only 2 pages to turn, evidently a downgrade from earlier versions which had an additional page. I'm happy to pay an additional 3-4 dollars if it means getting a more substantive book, as you do with this Lamaze book.

In addition to Peek-A-Boo Forest being highly attractive, the rhymes are very appealing. My near 7-month old son lights up with big smiles when I read the book.

As one review (at this time) mentions, you don't get a variety of textures here, like in the soft Priddy books, but babies really do love the crinkly sound, and there are plenty of other books/toys out there you can buy with multiple textures. What this book lacks in tactile variety it makes up for with quantity of pages and quality of writing/illustrations.

My one complaint (and the reason for downgrading my rating to 4 stars) is that on several pages, the animal is not completely covered by the flap, making the "Peek-a-Boo" aspect not quite as surprising as it should be. The flaps need to be either bigger and/or sewn in a slightly different place to optimize coverage of the animal. The error is particularly egregious on the last page with the beaver. Maybe it's just my copy...

Kick & Play Piano with Music, Sounds & Twinkling Lights Reviews

I first had experience with this toy in the daycare center where I worked. All the children in my care (6-12 months) really enjoyed it-we attached the pianos to the outsides of the cribs so they could reach them while crawling and cruising. The pianos were a little loud, especially when some infants were napping while others were up and playing, but we would just divert their attention away from the pianos during "nap time". Now I have a 10 month old son and we have a good fried who has a baby 5 months younger. When we were visiting a few weeks ago, my friend brought out the piano for my son to play with b/c he was fussing. He went "nuts" for that piano, clapping his hands and screaming at it every time an animal sound was played. When my older daughter changed it to make musical sounds, he crawled over to it and began hitting it, then noticed the lights and got excited all over again. It brought us all a good chuckle to see him so facinated and excited over a toy. Every time we go to visit now, my friend has the piano ready and waiting for him so we can watch and laugh and play with him. This is definitely one toy Santa's going to find on my son's first Christmas wish list!!!

I put the Fischer-Price Kick & Play by my baby's changing table when she was 2 months old and it was an instant hit. She was fascinated by the fun songs and awesome light show. She's now 10 months old and still cracks up each and every time it plays. I highly recommend it and also recommend that it be hung by a changing table. It's also a great tool to keep her from rolling over and crawling away at changing time... a BIG PLUS !!

These cards are great! The cardboard they are printed on is sturdyeasy for little hands to hold and durable. The characters are cute and I like that they have the name of each animal. I wish I would have bought them sooner. My daughter is 5 months now and she can see colors clearly. Maybe if I would've gotten them ealier when they are attracted to black/white patterns, she wouldve enjoyed them more. Saving them for when she is older. Hoping to use them to make up stories with the characters.

We got these cards as a baby shower gift, and they are wonderful! They come in a nice box and are very high quality. My baby started paying attention to them very early pretty much at the age when you think babies don't really look at things. He just loved looking at them, and later on would coo excitedly at his favourite ones. I also own a "Hello, Animals" book, and it is nowhere near Wee Gallery by design sophistication and quality. For the hours of entertainment these cards provide, they are definitely worth the price. I got these as part of the baby shower gift for my friend as well, and will be keeping them in mind for future gift giving.

my 3and 4yr olds liked this globe quite a bit before they became discouraged with the difficulty in understanding the voice commands and with the tracker pole not going all the way up to the top. now they refer to it as "the globe we liked but doesn't work". i'd spend a little more (the kids seem to love the concept) and get one that functions more smoothly (it is difficult to stop, start, and generally maneuver).

my three year old got this for christmas and loves the sound effects and fun designs but he gets frustrated by the joystick. it is difficult to "fly" to the right spot when prompted by the "find the" questions and requires better motor skills than most three year olds have i often have to help him guide the joystick onto the right animal or place. my five year old can navigate without difficulty. however she becomes bored after 5 mins as there is a limited number of questions and games which is fine for a three year old but not enough info for the five and above age range. in all i'd say great concept and a fun way for kids to learn about the world but the makers should either simplify the joystick for younger kids or expand the knowledge for older kids.

my sons liked this toy. always fun to fly a plane, and they get to learn a little about geography too. they always tended to turn it into a contest to land on the same animal or location every time whichever one they liked the most, but I guess that was also good for memory, and also coordination to steer the plane to the right place. a little bit flimsy, but still fun. ours never broke, but the stick got loose where the plane would drop to the bottom instead of staying at a certain height when you let go of the stick, but not an issue since usually the kids are steering it up/down anyway, and it only fell to bottom when they let go of the stick, basically never while they were playing.

My husband bought this for my 5.5 month-old son. Although my son hasn't completely figured it out yet, his face just lit up the first time he pushed the handle down. And he played with this for more than an hour at his first try. That alone was worth the money since he usually only plays with a toy for a few seconds. I highly recommend this (although the laugh is a little bit evil).

Pros: Easy to use at around 6 months

Six other babies have played with this toy and they all loved it too

The ears are just the right size for teething babies

Cons: A little large

The laugh is evil and annoying

Update: This, like all battery-operated children's toys, needs an off switch. Not only does my baby love this, but so does my dog. Now we hear an evil laugh coming from the next room, both day and night, because the dog has figured out how to push the handle down with his nose.

After you build the flower puzzle, you put pegs in the holes and count from 1 to 10, so this is educational, and it's also cute and colorful. I did deduct a star because the pegs are very small and might be easy to lose if parents didn't watch their kids with this toy.
