I bought this puzzle for my 5-yr-old niece, and as it turned out, it was fun for the whole family! We liked the fact that there were so many possibilities in terms of designs and that it comes with some suggested designs that are easy to create. It was too challenging for my niece to create the suggested designs on her own, but she will grow into it and she enjoyed making patterns and creating a beautiful design with every attempt. I have two minor complaints about the product one is that I wish there were more little triangles, which would add to the flexibility and possible designs, and the other is that the light and dark green pieces are so close in color that you can hardly tell the difference. Other than that, we loved it and will continue to play with it for days on end. I like the fact that it is made from bamboo and that it comes with lots of extra pieces and a nice canvas bag to hold all the pieces. I'll definitely be giving this as a gift again!

I echo everything P Geis said, plus the puzzle is excellent for people with dementia. It taps the creativity that may remain intact even with significant cognitive decline. There are no opportunities for mistakes and the end result is colorful and attractive. You can allow as much independence in design as the person can manage. There's enough ease in our puzzle base that adding a new piece can push existing ones a bit out of place if the puzzle is flat. This is frustrating for arthritic hands (but doesn't seem to bother kids). The issue is minimized by using the stake that elevates the puzzle base at about a 30-degree angle, allowing gravity to keep the pieces more secure. Definitely a 5-star product. Makes me want to investigate other Hape offerings.

I got this to start my drawing interest a few years ago and it pretty much covered all the graphite I needed for a few months. Some I never touched since my style doesn't need them, but I made some good use of them. They're an alright brand for beginners, but I would cough up about 4 or 5 more dollars and get that turquiose graphite set from sanford.

Overall, a good graphite pencil set, but it's more worth it to spend a tad bit more for a way better set of pencils.

I never used the eraser, but the sharpener comes in handy when I can't find mine. Not sure how good the eraser erases...I use magic rub anyways.

I've been drawing for the past 25 years and while I'm by no means a professional or experienced with a variety of pencil brands, I've been frustrated lately with the quality of these Kimberly drawing pencils. I've gone through 4 pencils that range between 2B and 6B and every one of them have almost continuously presented something in the graphite. I'm not sure if they're bundles of binder or bubbles in the graphite, but every few seconds I experience a scratching and a lack of graphite "flow." I have to rub them vigorously on scratch paper to get rid of the impurity before I can begin applying the graphite smoothly and evenly again.

The four pencils represent pencils I've had in my collection for a couple of years, and pencils I purchased in the past week.

I'll be switching to another brand as soon as possible.

I first saw this in '98 at the gym and it immediately motivated me. Everytime I went to the gym I could not help but stare before and after working out. It became one of my biggest reasons to return. The biggest problem I had in my traveling discussion series "Fat, not with a P.H." was the transportation of the fat itself. It was very difficult to keep fresh, and would begin to dissipate over time, leaving me with Tupperware containers that looked more like orange sherbet that had been left out to melt.

My speeches are meant to uplift and enlighten, and I found more and more people either being put off by the smell (I can't even begin to describe it, but imagine if your colon was trying to win a "who can go the longest without showering" contest), or simply mesmerized by the sheer sight of the clumps of fat sitting on the podium, literally sliding away under the spotlights like a pat of butter on a hot griddle.

Using fat in demonstrations is unhealthy and rather offensive, I've come to find out. And when someone told me about these replicas, I was simply amazed. First off, they look like the real thing, if memory serves. All I have now is an orange stain on my passenger seat to go by (note to all, crack a window on those hot days if you're going shopping and leaving your demo fat in the car). Secondly, although they offer no value on those long "no time to turn off to get a bite" trips, the end result is a firm, and much easier to handle sample (which has helped tremendously during the "hot fat potato" portion of my seminar where the group gathers in a circle and tosses the fat from person to person).

One down point is the color. It is very appetizing, and a few of my more zoftig followers have asked if it was an actual food product. (luckily, I keep the "sherbet" close at hand for those moments.)

This is the only product I recommend. I was let down considerably when I was ready to begin my seminars on childhood obesity, and ordered a catalog from a company called "Baby Phat." Trust me, they do not offer the selection that this company provides. From now on, this is my one-stop shop for all my fake fat needs.

Overall, if you're in the market for fake fat, go with this product. And if I may suggest a more marketable name..

My wife works in the health/wellness/weight loss field, and this is just the ticket, to illustrate what 5 pounds of ugly fat looks like. If your goal is to show people what 5 pounds of fat, all in one ugly lump looks like, this is your product.

It isn't the easiest thing to clean, as it has an uneven 'rubbery' type surface, that seems to catch and hold dirt/grime, but warm soapy water seems to do the job.

It seems kind of pricey, for what it is, but if you are wanting an anatomically correct fat replica, I don't know where else you could get one.

Ordered this for a 4th grade science project and was very worried about doing this right since I am not a science person but the easy instructions, the packet explaining the Scientific Principle, Hypothesis, etc was soooo helpful! We had enough agar there was actually some left over, the swabs come packaged individually and the petri dishes are easy to handle. The plastic is a little weak and I'd be concerned if we might drop one but leaving them on the counter we shouldn't have a problem at all. You will need rubber bands and distilled water that isn't included but those are pretty easy to come by. We started our project last night and can't wait to start watching stuff grow!

I bought this dog as a replacement because my 3yo daughter's first one malfunctioned. I don't know why it broke but before it did it was a beloved member of the stuffed menagerie on her bed! I bought a cheap mp3 player to go with [the first one] and loaded it with Curious George audio stories and she couldn't be happier. She will listen to them over and over every night at bedtime. My mp3 player could use a sleep feature but that's another story, the dog will shut itself off after a period of inactivity and the batteries last a pretty long time. An older child might get a kick out of the dog's interactiveness but my kids are too young to care about that. The lights respond to the music and are a really neat feature. My only con would be that it isn't really washable, especially because it comes in the trademark iDog white, they can get grubby looking pretty rapidly. Overall, our family is a big fan of the story telling puppy!

Our son walked a little on the late side at 17 months, and this little alligator has become a great companion for him since. With a dog, we must go for walks daily, and he walks the alligator while I tend to his younger brother and walk the dog. That alligator has put some MILES on it. We got it as a gift from my aunt who is an avid Salvation Army shopper and were devastated when a wheel fell off (this is probably after at least 50 miles on the thing, not including its milage from previous owners), but we found a label on its clackity body and were ecstatic to have located a new one. I bought this cute little fellow for my nephew. When it came, I just HAD to get it out and play with it myself! The clapping (not overly annoying) intrigued and scared my cat, but I sure thought it was fun. The wheel axels are off-center, forcing the "worm"-like motion (like the 80s dance, which forces the plates to clap as it strolls along. It is smaller than I expected -box is only about 4"x4"x12", but I guess that makes it a little less intimidating for small children. Haven't given this to my nephew yet, but I sure think it's a great, timeless toy that can entertain for many years. For those who are interested, the paint is soy-based; the manufacturer really seemed to be dedcated to a natural, quality product.

I like the Thames and Kosmos products in general and have ordered several. They provide a sequence of experiments that focus on teaching key concepts in their areas. The experiments are written in a small booklet with not just information on the experiment, but with background on the field in which the experiment occurs.

My daughter really likes this perfume kit. There are several elemental oils and then some other factors needed to mix different kids of perfume. The experiments starts with learning how to incrementally mix perfumes, to keep notebooks, to emphasize observation (smelling and comparing) and gives references to other ways of making perfume (from flowers, ancient extraction methods, etc.).

My daughter has a range of interests, though they tend toward arts and crafts. This kit is a nice way to bridge those preferences into enjoying and experiencing science. From this kit, we've graduated into chemistry kits and other experimentation (electronics). It's been a nice way for me as a dad/scientist to build that relationship on a scientific level with my daughter. My wife appreciates having her daughter be multidimensional, and is happy to step back and let me do these learning experiences with the kids.

While the kit is labeled for certain age groups, the first time the children do the experiments, it has always been necessary for me with these Thames and Kozmos kits (an adult) to do it with them. This means reading the book for them, and keeping them on track, working through the experiments, and talking through the concepts. If the kids were to be handed the kit to navigate on their own, they would go nowhere the book would be too tough, and the concepts while organized so that an adult can plainly see how they relatewill be tough to pick up. They open the kit and start fiddling with the tools and putting them together in unusual ways; also a cognitively interesting activity, but not one that would lead them to making the conceptual discoveries that the kit strives for.

Still I think that's just right. I want to teach my kids these concepts. These kits are a nice way to spend time together with the kids, 1:1. In a way these kits serve as a very convenient shortcut for me they gather the materials, organize the lesson plans, and package them in an appealing way.

Then once I go through the experiments, I find the kids have internalized the concepts and integrate them into their play vocabulary. And they can now pull the kits down to repeat the experiments on their own, or then combine the elements to try new discoveries. In this case of the perfume kit, my daughter now pulls it down as needed to mix up new batches or to try her own experiments (e.g., extracting oil from rose petals).
