This package is a SUPER deal. I bought this for my 4 yr old and he shares the mind station and free 6 mos subscription with his 13 yr old brother. The 13 yr old has an iQuest & it was cheaper to buy this package that includes the K-1 activity sheets and the Leap Pond magazine than it was to buy the mindstation by itself. This is a great addition to the Leap Pad!!!

I bought the mind station in 2007 hoping to help my son with his spelling words. You could use the leapfrog site to create your child's spelling list for the Turbo Twist Spelling Game. Well Leapfrog stopped supporting this function in January of 2008, so I got less than 4 months use out of this. I am very disappointed with Leapfrog and after years of supporting them have stopped purchasing the Leapfrog products. It should have been simple to include a disk that allowed customers to use their computers to create the lists at home, but I got absolutely NO response when I questioned about this. They sent me disks for the Iquest, which is the one Leapfrog product I DIDN't buy.

we have really enjoyed the leap pad so far its is a educational game and portable. my child as really enjoyed the leap pad it is not boring for him he as had alot of fun with it even my youngest child as enjoyed just listening to the pad.

I wasn't sure how this product would be, as it's always tough for me to purchase things over the internet. However, I am pleasantly surprised with this learning mat. My toddler is currently enrolled in daycare and preschool, however within the next few months I anticipate staying home with her so I wanted to continue with some of the structure she is currently used to. I looked around at several circle time mats, and could not find anything under $100. With the low price of this product, I was a little unsure of what to expect, espeically since the description does not list the material this is made out of. The learning mat is made out of a strong, thick plastic material. I like that because it will be easy to clean and keep sanitized. It folds up easily for storage, or you can leave it out for all day use. It comes with a few cute games for toddlers to play. The colors are vibrant, and I do like how the mat has numbers, shapes, and colors. My only suggestion for the manufacturer would be to add letters as well. My daughter sat on the mat and said "Where is the Z?" (her name is Zoe, so she is always looking for the letter Z). With only 10 spaces on the mat, I am sure it would be difficult to add 26 letters to it, though. The backside of this mat is just a plain yellow color, so perhaps the manufacturer could add the alphabet to the back of the mat? This mat will definitely hold up for home use, even with a few kids. I find the size and durability to be great for home use. If you have a home daycare or preschool and have numerous kids needing to play circle time, I would recommend investing in a circle rug, which would hold up better for that use. However, for home use with 5 kids or less I think this product is perfect!

As a teacher, I think this game is great for learning and practicing time. You can use it 2 ways: Showing a time on the pretend clock that is included or reading the analog time off of the clock. This feature can make the directions a little hard for children to understand, but once you explain that they choose one of these 2 play methods, it's really very easy for them. The 2 ways to play also make it multi-level which is great too.

PlanToys Shape and Sort Reviews

I really like that this shape sorter is made out of all natural rubber wood and focuses on 3 key shapes about which all children must learn relatively early. The design of the quick-release floor (blue) to drop the shapes to the ground is clever and is easy for a baby/young toddler to master.

My nearly 1-year old took to the toy right away. In fact, he's been so diligent putting the shapes into the spaces that he figured out how to fit the triangle into the square opening! It doesn't require much effort. Just hold the triangle upright (vertically) and angle it. It doesn't just fit into the space partially. You can drop it right in there.

This design and/or production flaw is extremely disconcerting, as naturally, now that my son sees the triangle can go into the square space, he doesn't always put the triangle into the triangle opening. Sometimes he uses the square opening. I wrote to Plan Toys about this problem and received a prompt response from a customer service rep, but she said she had to forward my comments to a group in Thailand and that I might not receive an answer to my specific complaint for up to a month. She offered to send me another toy of equal or lesser value, which is very nice, but I don't like the other shape sorters the company makes as much as this one. UPDATE ON 01-22=10: Still no word from the Plan Toys development group about the flaw in the toy.

In addition to the triangle issue, the wood on top of our shape sorter (where the openings are for the shapes) has started to split in two places and I had to remove the toy from my child's play area so that he doesn't get a splinter. Admittedly, my son bangs on the wood with the shapes pretty hard, but shouldn't that be expected?

There is great potential for this product. It just needs to be redesigned a bit.

My 13 month old took to this right away and probably 80% of the fun of this toy is being able to release the shapes on his own. He loves the springy leverthe secondary action of the toy. As a sorter it is kind of useless since BOTH the cylinder and the triangle fit through the square hole. Despite that he has figured it all out and can do it correctly. And he loves stuffing other things in the holes and springing them out with the lever as well.

It is a heavy toy so him carrying it around and flinging it has become kind of destructive, but that is how much he likes ithe carries it around.

This sorter is simply beautiful and my little one loves it! The whole thing is made out of solid wood and the edges are very smooth. The push-down mechanism to get the blocks out is simple and cleverly designed. We began playing with it at around nine months and we still enjoy it at fifteen months.

The one thing that keeps me from giving this sorter a perfect rating is that after some gnawing and mouthing of the blocks the color has become faded in areas. However, this still wouldn't keep me from buying the Shape and Sort again.

This is the best shape sorter. I have a three year old and a 16 month old and we have been through the gambit of shape sorters. This one holds my 16 months old attention and once he gets them in he can dump them back out all on his own without getting frustrated that the blocks won't come out. I would recommend this for anyone. Even I can't help but play with it when I am picking up the toys.

We've only had this toy for a week, but we love it so far. My son is only 9 months old, and he can't put the shapes in yet, but he loves releasing the toys and I'm sure will grow into enjoying all the aspects of the toy.

Cheap LeapFrog Leapster® Educational Video: School House Rock

My 3 yr-old was already hooked on the Grammar Rock and Math Rock DVDs, and was just beginning to work on the America Rocks songs. It's great as a Gen X parent to get to listen to some of the shows of my youth in the car versus the blips and squeaks of the regular Leapster games (not that I mind those if it's that or yelling on long road trips).

Seriously...would otherwise apathetic adults really know anything about how a bill is created or why King George was ousted without America Rocks?! I would definitely buy this and Schoolhouse Rock again...they're definitely some of the most useful of the licensed Leapster titles.

Unless you have a child who loves to sing, the kid may not find this too attractive. I do wish they also made some fun game to do the quizz, instead of just shouting Right! or Wrong.

My 6 yr.old loves this game, she sings the songs and in a couple of weeks had learned 2 of the 5. she can answer an average of 17 questions right, out of about 27 (the questions change even if the same song-game is played), in the game par of it (5 games, with fun pictures to choose answers from), eventhough I never tought her american history, I came to the US at 17 so I did not learn it. I could see a light bulb come over her head after she got what the song was explaining about the government and the laws in "I'm just a bill", and about the independance of America in "no more King" she got it! and she is 6. I, myself am getting a history lesson while driving her around as she plays the game.she has about 27 leapster games and this is a favorite along with schoolhouse rock Grammar. It most be the music, It works she is learning and she is excited about it.

I am a big fan of nicely made children's toys, and this is surely one of them! The pieces are all wooden with colorful animals on them, and they store neatly in a cloth carry sack when it's time to put them away. We bought this game for my 2, almost 3 year old son for Christmas and just got it out today. I had my doubts that he'd be ready for it, but 7 rounds later, I have no doubts left. He caught on during the first game and wanted to keep playing. To be able to play, it is helpful if your child has had practice counting (to aid them in choosing their 5 initial game pieces), and also if they've had some practice with matching (as they will need to be able to look at their pieces to see if any of them match either of the 2 animals currently in play). I would say this is definitely a floor game as the pieces are quite large; I think the growing line of dominoes would quickly become too long for table play. I didn't measure the pieces, but they are each probably about 4-5" tall by 2.5" wide. I think this game will get lots of use at our house and will be a good intro into the real game of dominoes in another few years. Heirloom quality. Great work, Plan Toys! :)

Grandson loved the noise the wooden dominoes made on the tile floor when he knocked down the line Grandpa had set up. This activity occupied them on and off for the two day visit over the New Year. He can name most of the animals pictured but wasn't ready to play the matching game. They also are great to load into the over-sized dump truck. Maybe this summer he'll be ready for the draw and match game.

I bought this for my 3 year old but he's still too young for it. He doesn't quite understand the concept of Dominoes but he does like looking at the pictures and likes to stack them and put them in the bag. I put them away and will try again when he's a little older. The blocks are beautiful though well made and cute pictures. These dominoes would last forever. I love that they are eco-friendly and natural.

I had been eyeing these dominoes on Amazon for quite some time, trying to decide which niece (of various ages) to buy them for. I finally ordered them as a birthday gift for the 2-year-old, and my sister-in-law reported back that they are a big hit. She said that she was able to play with both kids TOGETHER (the birthday girl and her almost-5-year-old sister), and couldn't remember the last time that had happened, if ever. The 2-year-old needed just a little bit of help in order to play, so I'm guessing she'll be able to play with them independently well before she turns three.

To start, I LOVE this night time chart. It has don wonders for FINALLY sleep training our 4yo son. I was dlighted that they had sticker refills until I got them. There are 4 times as many smiley faces as stars. If I kept ordering when we needed stars, which would be like once a week, we'd never get to using all those smiley faces... Bad forethought on their behalf. We'll be moving to static stickers we can use over and over. Don't waste your money, the chart is expensive enough (for what it is).

My 16 mo old loves this shape sorter. However, when we first started playing with it, four months ago, she repeatedly pinched her fingers in the rotating body. Maybe it's not an issue for older kids, and they do recommend it for 12+ months. Just keep in mind it can be very painful for younger children.

Got this for my 14 month old for Christmas ... a month later he still plays with it every day. Cute, colorful, yeah the blocks fall out sometimes without pushing down on the ears but they're gonna come out anyways, he also found a way to whistle through the blocks. Nice to be abe to stack the blocks together also. Like it much better than the other sorter he had :-)

As a loving uncle I always look for fun gifts for my precocious nephew. This looked like something fun with an educational spin on it so I ordered some. I had it delivered to my office and tore one package open with enthusiasm. I had it delivered to my office because I don't trust Larry, my neighborhood mail carrier. I swear he's been taking some of my Sheep Magazine issues, especially the annual shearing edition. He also makes comments about me still living at home in my 30s. Hey, Larry, it's not easy living with your parents as an adult... let's see you try it. So anyway, I can't actually attest to its freshness, as advertised, but I suppose it smells like what I imagine fresh coal should smell like. Is it really anthracite coal? Beats me, for all I know they could be slipping me some of that bituminous junk in a package and calling it whatever but I'm not going to make a mountain out of a COAL hill. I trust Amazon to not hoodwink me like that though. Ebay though? Never ever again. It'll be a COAL day in hell before I buy anything off Ebay. Now I thought this would be educational because it's from the American Educational Products company. This is the same fine company that gave the Digest-O-Rama®, which is in my opinion the best way to teach kids about farts and poop without all the silliness and giggling. I haven't yet caught on to what is so educational about this coal but it will come to me. I've had this coal in the pocket of my stretch waist cargo shorts for a few days and I'm experiencing some remarkable things. I suffer from Witzelsucht and it appears that my symptoms are improving. I highly recommend getting some if you also share this disorder. You can't have mine though, get your own. Don't worry though, I'm sure each package is practically a CARBON copy of the other.

This is a bag of coal that weighs less than one pound. One ton of coal costs $90.00 per short ton, or about $0.05 per pound. Accordingly this costs over 150 times the price of the coal located therein. So ask yourself, is $7.20 too much to pay for a Ziplock bag and a label?

While this is a straight-forward product, it is a plastic bag of coal with a sticker on the outside after all, I guess I expected more. I was hoping to use this as a stocking-stuffer gag gift, as I expect most others will choose to do the same.

I was disappointed when it arrived and the "lumps" are quite a bit smaller than I had imagined. Perhaps my imagination got the best of me, and I have pictured three nice fistful sized pieces. Instead, there were three that were nail polish bottle sized.
