Best Educational Insights Far Out Solar System Mapping Tool (5255) Deals
I received this solar system mapping tool as a gift and found it to be a real time saver. I teach both STEM and Math, with this tape I was able to put the students right on the mark where each planet is in relation to the sun. I didn't need to set up my own model this time, and the distances on the tape allowed me to make some very good math connections.
The case and tape are both very sturdy and well designed. My students didn't have any problem using it, and it was nice to have it reel in and out easily.
It did require room to use it effectively, but that is to be expected when modeling the distances of the planets. If you can get outside or have a long hallway to use this tool, it is fantastic!

Cheap Kimmidoll Junior: Aesha Lock-up Journal by Kids Preferred
I ordered this journal for my neice's 5th birthday. She had been wanting a diary with a lock and this was just too cute not to get.
It was even cuter in person and seemed fairly durable. The little heart lock is precious, but isnt the highest quality. Actually took me a few tries to unlock because it is not spring loaded, you have to turn and pull simultaneously.
Overall a great journal, highly recommended!

Cheap Wild Science Beauty Salon
My little girl (9)~ absolutely loved this gift for Christmas. She played with it so much and then started making perfumes as gifts for her friends. I would absolutely recommend this it has a lot of really neat experiments and very reasonably priced.

I purchased this for my 9-year-old granddaughter. She was thrilled with everything inside the box and began creating her bath goodies. My only concern was that you needed to wear gloves to make the concoctions, with warnings about your skin not touching the liquids. Yet these same bath bombs were supposed to go into the tub with you? Plus the dyes had warnings about staining your bathtub. Fisher Price Ocean Wonders Deep Blue Sea Friends Table Reviews
As long as you don't get gouged on the price, this table is great. Check around on the prices. I got this for my 5 month old at christmas time. She couldn't stand on her own, but she could bear weight just fine, so she really enjoyed playing with it as I held her steady. Now that she is older and standing on her own (8 months), she still loves it. The activities are simple but entertaining. She loves the music and it is not at all annoying. It is sea-themed music and sound effects. The spinning ball in the middle is the main fun attraction but she uses all the parts and they are good for learning dexterity. I believe this is something she will happily crawl/walk over to and play with as time goes on. It isn't anything that she seems to get tired of so far because of the music and lights and variety of things to do. It may not be as "fancy" as some of the other tables, but it is also cheaper, a bit smaller (takes up less space), and probably less annoying. and babies don't care about fancy. I love the colors, too.

Reviews of American Educational Light Gray Volcanic Ash Igneous Rock, 1Kg
While studying volcanoes, I had always wondered what the ash would be like and this gave me a chance to experience it. I especially like the experiment I tried that involved adding a small amount of moisture to the ash and seeing the result, that was pretty cool.
Pros:
A very large quantity of ash (more than you will find pretty much anywhere else). I must admit, I did my math backwards when I first ordered this product. I thought I was getting about a half pound of ash, whereas it was actually 2.2 pounds. Still cool, though, just means I have a lot more to "experiment" with.
Cons:
Since it is a heavier product, if end up having to ship it anywhere, then it might cost you a bit to do so. Just don't be like me, double check your shipping address before finalize your order!

Best Plan Toy Shape and Sort It Out Deals
I chose to buy this shape sorter for my 12 month old because it is solid wood and the shapes only fit through their own holes. This is important, because MANY shape sorters have more shapes, but they will frequently fit through more than one shape hole.
This toy good for Montessori-style learning, because it has the natural control of error.
This toy is simple, but good quality, and my daughter loves it.
The lid is not attached, like some, but that's fine. We play with it togther and she has almost as much fun matching the lid to the box!
Before purchasing I had read a review that pointed out that this a fool proof design in that the shapes will only fit into the right spot. We have found that to be true.
After receiving this sorter, my daughter mastered the round spot quickly and is very good at the other shapes as well. There are two of each shape, so your child can reinforce what they learn when they hit the right spot by putting the same shape in again right away. The lid fits nicely, resting in a groove. It is slightly weighty so it works well and is easy to remove and replace.
I love that this toy is non-toxic with safer rounded edges. Wood toys can be less toxic but a potential hard surface to fall on, so rounded edges show that someone put thought and care into the design.
The wood is a beautiful, matte finish. It feels good in your hands. The colors are rich, and engaging for my child. I don't think you can go wrong with this one!
Update: As my child grew older, she did some of their first stacking with these blocks. The matte finish gives them some grip so they are not as difficult as the Baby's First Blocks by Haba (which I also recommend).

It's a piece of wood that rests on top of the box, and that makes it very easy for the child to remove it and pull the blocks out so they can start sorting all over again. He wouldn't be able to have that fun if the lid locked into place, and i'm glad i don't have to be involved in liberating the blocks every time he's put them all into the box.
(And for anyone who doesn't know much about the Plan Toy company, my favorite thing about them is that they use food-grade dyes for their products, so you never have to worry about your child ingesting toxic chemicals by chewing on them. They also source renewable wood and engage in a variety of other eco-friendly policies.)

We had previously purchased another Plan Toys Shape Sorter Plan Toy Shape and Sort with a very similar name but different design. My child never really took to it, partly because it is not the most intuitive design. She never really figured out the intended way to retrieve the shapes, though she did get creative and find another way! My 21 month old daughter loved this since I opened it & it kept her engaged. I love the quality, all the pieces and box are solid wood, except the bottom of the box is a little different (thinner), however it is pretty solid/sturdy. The box's walls are put together by something similar to a dovestail joint (glued); this means no nails. All edges of box, lid & shapes are rounded & smooth. The shapes fit only in their corresponding shape slot (no cheating :). The box has two openings on the sides to use as handles. The lid sits on a short grove on top of the box & is easily removed by child without assistance (If you tip it over, the lid would fall). My only issue is that MY lid did not sit flat, the top is slighty warped & it wobbles a bit on top of the box (like a wobbly/uneven table). The defect was not significant enough for me to return it, however this would be better if the grove for the lid were a little deeper & of course the lid is flat. Overall happy with this product, it is well made & my child loves it. Oh, and the paint seems good, no chemical odor. Box measures 6" wide & 4" high. I got this for my 15 month old son. It is a beautifully made toy; great quality and the educational value is definitely there. I only wish there was a way to keep the lid on. My son gets more enjoyment out of taking the lid off and filling the box with toys. I think if there was a latch or a hinge of some sort, he would be more apt to actually try and get the blocks through the holes. The ladder piece was broken when I received it but had a lot going on and just kept it. It is quite boring for my 1 1/2 yr old and he enjoys playing w his $9 shape sorter much better. Write-A-Mat Review
The "peek-a-boo" flaps, pull tabs, action and simple language in this book made it a big hit with our two children -(one toddler and one preschool age)! The darling mouse, Maisy, does lots of activities at school, such as paints pictures, writes a story, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts! Like other lift the flap/pull the tab books, your child can interact with this book. My preschool age daughter has even learned to add and subtract from this book and very much enjoys "reading" the book to me! The Maisy books are a huge success in our home...we're ordering four more to add to our growing collection!
We have special Write a Mat crayons for the placemat and they wipe off nicely. After meals I just wipe the placemat down with a hot soapy washcloth and it's back to normal, ready to reuse. It's very durable. My son likes these mats.
I've never tried other brands of crayons, because I'm afraid they won't wipe off so maybe that's the only drawback to this product, the propriatary crayons. Still, we enjoy it.
The only problem I have with the placemat is that the pictures wear off. I was surprised though that it was as thick of a plastic as it was. I would buy this again.

We have a couple of these and use them at dinnertime and occassionally at playtime when coloring. PlanToys Animal Domino Reviews
I am a big fan of nicely made children's toys, and this is surely one of them! The pieces are all wooden with colorful animals on them, and they store neatly in a cloth carry sack when it's time to put them away. We bought this game for my 2, almost 3 year old son for Christmas and just got it out today. I had my doubts that he'd be ready for it, but 7 rounds later, I have no doubts left. He caught on during the first game and wanted to keep playing. To be able to play, it is helpful if your child has had practice counting (to aid them in choosing their 5 initial game pieces), and also if they've had some practice with matching (as they will need to be able to look at their pieces to see if any of them match either of the 2 animals currently in play). I would say this is definitely a floor game as the pieces are quite large; I think the growing line of dominoes would quickly become too long for table play. I didn't measure the pieces, but they are each probably about 4-5" tall by 2.5" wide. I think this game will get lots of use at our house and will be a good intro into the real game of dominoes in another few years. Heirloom quality. Great work, Plan Toys! :)

Grandson loved the noise the wooden dominoes made on the tile floor when he knocked down the line Grandpa had set up. This activity occupied them on and off for the two day visit over the New Year. He can name most of the animals pictured but wasn't ready to play the matching game. They also are great to load into the over-sized dump truck. I bought this for my 3 year old but he's still too young for it. He doesn't quite understand the concept of Dominoes but he does like looking at the pictures and likes to stack them and put them in the bag. I had been eyeing these dominoes on Amazon for quite some time, trying to decide which niece (of various ages) to buy them for. I finally ordered them as a birthday gift for the 2-year-old, and my sister-in-law reported back that they are a big hit. She said that she was able to play with both kids TOGETHER (the birthday girl and her almost-5-year-old sister), and couldn't remember the last time that had happened, if ever. I've used lots of different types of microscope lights professionally, but never an LED one until now.
First impression was how light and 'plasticy' it felt. Plugged it in for a test before fitting it to the microscope, a Bausch & Lomb SX4 with the 0.5X objective, to make sure it worked. Plugged it in, turned it on, looked to see how bright it would get and mistake. Don't look directly into it. No pain or damage, but it is pretty bright. Dims to fairly low. Time to try it out!
Put it on a ring light adapter we already had. The enclosed adapter WILL NOT fit this microscope since it has a 1.5" x 1/32" thread (from memory check your manual to be sure). I knew it wouldn't from the description and counted on the opening to be about right. The ring itself is a close fit to the adapter I had already. It feels like it will help stabilize the light in addition to the three screwed in holder. There are no 'rubber feet' on the screw ends to help them grab, so I'll see how it holds over time. Worse comes to worse, it would probably stay on with a rubber band wrapped around the adapter. It's that close a fit to the adapter.
The light from it is toward the bright end of what I'd like for a light. For a good amount of light for my work it's adjusted toward the dimmer end. That speaks well for it's potential longevity since the brighter and longer LEDs operate, the quicker they dim. They say in the description it's a 'cool' light, and it is. Much bluer a tint than my old fluorescent ring light. The light seems well distributed and I didn't notice any spotty reflections from all the individual LEDs like I expected I would. With the 0.5X objective the viewing distance is about 6", so if your microscope has a different range this observation may not apply.
I'll have to use it more to be sure, but for my purpose, examining electronic circuit boards, I think it'll be fine.

Cheap Replogle Globes Tallinn Globe, Blue and Gold Metallic Finish
Buying a product from the internet sight-unseen can be a risk, but this one paid off. This globe is far and away the most beautiful I've ever seen.
The blue metallic finish of the ocean looks like high-end automotive paint, with layers of metallic sparkle and sheen. I think it far nicer than the "jeweled" globes made of semi-precious stones, and with those globes, the outlines of continents and countries are just rough approximations of the appropriate shapes. Here, the land masses are all perfectly accurate, and are finished in a metallic bronze color that complements the ocean very well.
Some caveats:
The writing is black, whether on land or ocean. On the ocean, the black is _very_ difficult to read.
The stand consists of three pieces held together with two screws -the top curved piece in which the globe rests can't be secured to the post tightly enough to prevent it from rotating somewhat.
The color of the metal surround is a different color than that of the stand (the stand is closer to black, the metal surround is a brass color).
Still, five stars for a beautiful globe.

Discount Gund Baby Chester Happi Owl 10" Plush by Dena Design
I ordered this owl to go with my Deni Happi Tree nursery theme. It doesn't really look like any designs I have in the nursery except for the big eyes. Besides the red heart on the side, it has a pink heart under the beak. I find it strange looking and was a little disappointed how flat it is. Was expecting it to be a little more rounded or fuller. It will not stand up on its own, but will if propped up against a pillow or wall. Seems durable and is soft. The baby is too little to play with it so it is just an accessory piece. I still think it is a strange looking owl, but it is kind of cute in an alien looking way. It arrived in good condition.This toy is as adorable as I was expecting! I can't get over the cuteness. Its also well made and soft and cuddly and much bigger than I was expecting. Well worth the money!

This is a fine educational model for kids interested in learning more about the human skull. The skull model is very simplified, of course, but adequate for most children. I teach anatomy at the college level and this model would be far too simple for that purposebut for elementary and middle school kids, it's perfect. It's easy enough to quickly assemble within 5-10 minutes, can be taken apart and re-assembled readily. It helps kids understand the basic anatomy of the skull: hemispheres of the brain, cranial sutures, how the brain fits inside inside the cranium. The jaws can be opened and closed via the rubber band attachment and the eyes really insert into the eye sockets (and glow in the dark, which is a nice touch for the kids.) The accompanying book includes more detailed information, as well as several hands-on experiments relating to brain function.
If you want a large, detailed skull model for learning all of the cranial bones and muscles, this is clearly not the model for you. On the other hand, if you're looking for an inexpensive, fun model to introduce some basics of skull anatomy to a child, this is a nice purchase.
