My daughter is 10 months old and absolutely adores this toy. She loves books, whether she's looking at the pictures or chewing on them and this toy is great for both. It's very durable. My daughter has banged it and dropped it frequently and it's still going strong. The story is read out as you turn each page and your child is asked to match the block to the animal they're counting on that page. Then the next page switches animals and adds one more. By the end your child has counted up to five with five different animals. You can also play the song on each page which is a Leapfrog version of Old Mac Donald. . It is a cute story that will help your children identify animals and numbers up to 5. When your child is finished palying the block goes in place and the book has a lock tab to keep it in place so it doesn't get lost. There is a handle on top which makes it easy for my daughter to grab and carry around. It's great for at home, but works especially well in the car or over Grandma's house. The colors on my block aren't fading as some of the other reviewers noted, but this seems to be one toy my daughter doesn't chew on. It's educational, durable, and easy to clean. I have a few other Leapfrog toys and they all are wonderful. Another Leapfrog toy that I'm exceptionally happy with.

This is good fun for parents and babies alike. As your child turns each sturdy plastic page, the story is read out by a computer voice. Alternatively, the unit can be switched to 'singing' and a song is sung for each page.

The pages go from one to five and ask the reader to find Tad's Cow, his pig, and his sheep etc. A cube with pictures will need to be turned by baby to so that the pig is facing the front and the baby will be told if he has found the correct animal. The animals go up from 1 cow to 5 sheep and help baby learn numbers.

Educational and enjoyable, and the song (an altered version of Old MacDonald) does not grate as much as some electronic toys.

This had the potential to be my son's favorite toy. It had all of his favorite things, pages to turn, sound, and a block to fit places. However he became VERY Frustrated at the fact that you move the page even a little bit and it would start reading all over again. He liked to hear the song, but as soon as he would touch the page to get leverage or whatever, it would start to read. This book ended up getting thrown all over the place because it made him so mad. After a few months, I ended up giving it to my nephew. The concept is great, it can just be frustrating to a little one when they want it to do one thing and it keeps doing something else...

Honest reviews on LeapFrog: Tad's Counting Farm Smart Block Book

My 17 month old received this for christmas last year and he hasn't stopped playing with it. He was 5 months old when he got it and laughed at the "chick chick chick" songs. Now he knows the animals and can match the right animal to the correct page. It is a good learning toy because it looks like a little book and the voice reads the words on each page. He still enjoys this toy much more than many others he has received since then.

I got this for my son when he was almost 10 months old. It is a cute little version of Old MacDonald. It has 5 pages of counting animals and matching an animal block to hear the animal's sound. I think the age on this toy should be 12 months and up. At 9 months, it seemed a little advanced. The story, sounds and block were cute but they just seemed a little involved. Overall, a good toy to grow into but I would wait until your child is a little older before buying it.

I had previously looked into getting a Van De Graaf Generator for a Halloween mad scientist lab scene that I was putting together, but everywhere I looked, the price was just ridiculous. I was toying with the idea of just mocking something up to simulate something like this when I found an electronics magazine that featured instructions on how to build one. The article laid everything out well, but kept reiterating the complexity of the project and the fact that you were playing with a potentially lethal power generator if you made a critical mistake. Not being that confident in my ability and not wanting to fry myself, I was getting ready to go back to my initial idea of faking it when I chanced upon this listing on Amazon. The price listed seemed too good to be true, as the cost to build one was going to cost just the same or perhaps even more. I assumed that it was going to be cheaply made or some miniature version of what I was expecting, but when it arrived I was gleefully surprised to find out that my low expectations weren't needed.

It did a magnificent job that Halloween and we have pulled it out from time to time to play with and use it to explain the effect to my teenage nephew, which sparked (pardon the expression) his interest in science and electronics.

I purchased this as a training aid for work. I have to give Static and ESD protection training for 600 employees yearly. It has held up very well for almost 2 years. The packaging is very suitable for storage between training classes.

Honest reviews on American Educational Van De Graff Generator

This is a sturdy machine that makes big static electricity and impressive demos and displays. However, I am disappointed with a few things, especially so given the significant price. The manual included is sketchy, sloppy, incomplete, and blows an opportunity to round out the package with experiments and user tips. Nor did I find anything in the package that informs me as to where to get replacement parts, which will be an issue one of these days. The last issue: the unit supposedly includes an internal light bulb for drying out the insides when high humidity interferes with operation. However I have no idea if it's actually working when I hit the switch and the manual does not explain whether I should see some light somewhere, or how to check. I will have to take it apart to see what's up. Would be nice to know. All this says that the company is selling a product that mostly works but does not care much about some important details of helping the user get the best experience.

Hasbro Playskool Let's Play Together Peek & Pop Giraffes
Customer Ratings: 4 stars

My 8 month old daughter loves this toy!!!! She likes the giraffes because they pop up and down. She also likes the rings, they have beads inside that shake, and little tags on one of them that she can chew on. She especially loves to chew on their ears! Haha. She has NO trouble putting the rings on or taking the rings off. I will certainly buy this as a gift for others if the occassion arrives!

As any typical grandmother I purchased this toy long before Grace is actually old enough to truly play with it. However, even at this age, she loves having one of the rings placed on her arm so she can bang it around and hear the rattle. This is reminscent of the stacking rings I played with as a child, but the rings here are stiffer and while she can chew on them, they won't puncture or become torn. Awesome design and the giraffes are really cute!

Best Deals for Hasbro Playskool Let's Play Together Peek & Pop Giraffes

My 9 month old loves this toy. It was his favorite Christmas present. We haven't had a problem with the ears. It's a no frill, no noise, not battery toy. I agree with the other reviewer, there's little Peek-a-boo action, but we're not too bothered by it. My son loves to feel the different rings and hear the different sounds they make. Best of all, he likes throwing things

Honest reviews on Hasbro Playskool Let's Play Together Peek & Pop Giraffes

Cons: My 10-month old was doing a great job putting the post in the center of the ring but couldn't stack them because the rings get stuck on the ears of the giraffes. It takes a good bit of effort to push the rings past the ears. A baby just won't do it. So I cut them off and now it works well. The peek-a-boo feature is pointless. The distance that the giraffes "pop up" is so tiny the baby doesn't notice or care.

Pros: The rings can stack in any order. Baby isn't frustrated because they put the small ring on first and can't stack any more like the fisher price version. Also, the two posts are fun because he can put all the rings on one post then unstack them onto the other over...and over... and over. Another pro...the toy makes no noise and takes no batteries. It is also great that the rings make noises when you shake them and have things inside like a peek-a-block would.

Overall not bad, but you have to mutilate the giraffe's ears first and they look kinda sad now.

I got this for my 9 month old, thinking it would be a nice diversion from the traditional rock-n-stack; however, she's not thrilled with it and I'm thinking of getting the rock-n-stack anyway. We didn't have the problem described with the giraffe's ears, but the rings are kind of heavy for her (she's got some disabilities though, so it could just be her), and the colors aren't very engaging. It's a very cute toy, it just doesn't get a ton of play time in our house.

This book is very cute and looks tough, with its chunky pages. But beware, it will fall apart as soon as your toddler gets their hands on it. I've been searching for a good body fat replica for years. You think it would be easy, right? But it's not. Some are not nearly pliant enough. Some look too fake. I even found one that was actually greasy and just not good for my body fat demonstrations.

But that's not the case this time! This is the best five pound body fat replica on the market. If you show this baby to someone carrying an extra forty pounds, they are sure to take notice. Show it to your kids and they will suddenly want to go out side and play. It might be the premier body part replica on the market--even better than dirty lungs, clogged arteries, or decaying teeth!

Bonus points for the realistic blood vessels!

I first saw this in '98 at the gym and it immediately motivated me. Everytime I went to the gym I could not help but stare before and after working out. It became one of my biggest reasons to return. Years later the replica was forgotten after I moved. Recently walking by a medical clinic, I noticed a 5lb fat replica was on display with health pamphlets. I immediately went to my office and ordered it.

Believe it or not, I bring it to work which inspires healthy lunch choices and place it on my home bar to encourage myself to jog everyday. My co-workers laughed when I brought it to work, but now they love coming by and just picking it up so much I get a little protective! THAT IS MY FAT!!! Ha ha, one of them asked me where I got it and I didn't tell her for a while. She tried to act nonchalant, but eventually it got the better of her. I relented and know she is going to order one. Tee-hee.

Best Deals for 5lb. Fat Replica

The ultimate motivator for a dieter. This will make you lose your fat real fast. Highly recommended.

Honest reviews on 5lb. Fat Replica

The biggest problem I had in my traveling discussion series "Fat, not with a P.H." was the transportation of the fat itself. It was very difficult to keep fresh, and would begin to dissipate over time, leaving me with Tupperware containers that looked more like orange sherbet that had been left out to melt.

My speeches are meant to uplift and enlighten, and I found more and more people either being put off by the smell (I can't even begin to describe it, but imagine if your colon was trying to win a "who can go the longest without showering" contest), or simply mesmerized by the sheer sight of the clumps of fat sitting on the podium, literally sliding away under the spotlights like a pat of butter on a hot griddle.

Using fat in demonstrations is unhealthy and rather offensive, I've come to find out. And when someone told me about these replicas, I was simply amazed. First off, they look like the real thing, if memory serves. All I have now is an orange stain on my passenger seat to go by (note to all, crack a window on those hot days if you're going shopping and leaving your demo fat in the car). Secondly, although they offer no value on those long "no time to turn off to get a bite" trips, the end result is a firm, and much easier to handle sample (which has helped tremendously during the "hot fat potato" portion of my seminar where the group gathers in a circle and tosses the fat from person to person).

One down point is the color. It is very appetizing, and a few of my more zoftig followers have asked if it was an actual food product. (luckily, I keep the "sherbet" close at hand for those moments.)

This is the only product I recommend. I was let down considerably when I was ready to begin my seminars on childhood obesity, and ordered a catalog from a company called "Baby Phat." Trust me, they do not offer the selection that this company provides. From now on, this is my one-stop shop for all my fake fat needs.

Overall, if you're in the market for fake fat, go with this product. And if I may suggest a more marketable name..

"I Can't Believe It's Not Fat!"

My wife works in the health/wellness/weight loss field, and this is just the ticket, to illustrate what 5 pounds of ugly fat looks like. If your goal is to show people what 5 pounds of fat, all in one ugly lump looks like, this is your product.

It isn't the easiest thing to clean, as it has an uneven 'rubbery' type surface, that seems to catch and hold dirt/grime, but warm soapy water seems to do the job.

It seems kind of pricey, for what it is, but if you are wanting an anatomically correct fat replica, I don't know where else you could get one.

My granddaughter has been enjoying the leap pad, this is one of her favorites as it has alot of music and motion.

Best Deals for BOOK: The Animal Dance

I bought this for my 13-month old son today and was disappointed. Given the title, I thought this book would have playful sing-along or dance-along type songs, but it doesn't. It isn't very musical or fun. It's not a cohesive story either...but worse, I couldn't even find a single page that I thought my son would like (after he walked away uninterested).

Setting 2 was especially boring, mostly naming objects & animals saying short phrases; setting 3 had a little more personality and maybe some really short songs. I suppose it could be educational for an older child, but I'm not keeping it to see.

A fun book that I enjoy a lot w/ my young toddler is "Rainbow Fish 1,2,3". It's much more fun and musical, even though it's actually a counting book!

Just received this Mirari Busy Buddy Toy and at first sight it looks like a cute toy with the puppy shape and colorful design! When opened it is even better because it is truly a toy that helps with cognitive, sensory and fine motor skills. My 18 month old is loving this toy and at first needed some help putting the cogs back on the correct shapes/colors but now can do it on her own. When the dial is turned the puppy's ears and eyes move and she loves laughing and smiling at that! It is also easy to clean and is proving hours of enjoyment!

I teach an integrated classroom of typical students and students with special needs (aged 2.5 to 5) and they all loved it. It engaged the students with fine motor and cognitive delays and they had much success with working the gears. There were also both boys and girls who were older than the target audience that enjoyed playing with itthey especially liked the moving ears. The toy was easy to clean, and still functions after the bleaching and rough play. I would prefer that the removable plastic pieces were solid and heavier for use in the classroom, but at home it is fine. I look forward to trying other toys from Mirari!

Best Deals for Mirari Busy Buddy Toy

I just received this for my 17 month old daughter and she LOVES it. She's at the age where she's able to work on the shape sorting gears but I think it's great for younger ages too without that component. My (almost) 4 year old also loves to play with this.

Honest reviews on Mirari Busy Buddy Toy

My 19 month old son received this toy and it is a big hit. I like the learning opportunities in this toy. I like that he can learn about shapes, colors, movement and dexterity. I also like that it doesn't require any batteries! The Busy Buddy feels well constructed and durable. Also the colors are vibrant. The largest drawback to this toy is that pieces can easily get lost if not being constantly supervised. I would also recommend this toy for an older age range starting at about 15 months. Overall, I think my son will enjoy this toy for a long time.

I received this toy from Patch Products, all opinions are my own.

She tries to do the same thing, but is not successful yet. It is a very engaging toy and has been a fun addition to our toy collection.

The Electronic Playground reminds me very much of the type of electronics kit I had when I was young. I bought this for my son who is 6. While the instructions and details were a little above his head the kit was not. The projects are very straight forward and the the wiring guides are as easy as "connect the dots" (really!). My only minor complaint is that the frame is a bit flimsier (paper and plastic)then I would like.

My son and I did two projects in about 2 hours (two of the smaller ones) and I was able to use the kit to make some customizations (leverage the variable resistor add a light to the electronic buzzer etc.) and show him how circuits/components can be expanded and improved.

But beyond the ease of use the instruction booklet is really quite an excellent resource on basic electronics. For an older child the kit could/should provide a pretty good grounding (pardon the pun). The combination of straight forward instructions (so you get get things to work) and well written explanations (so you know why they work) is great.

I really can't wait to do more projects with my son or ....

maybe I'll just borrow it at night and do them myself.

I got this for my ten year old son who was interested in electricity and electronics. We have been going thru the lessons one at a time and he has been learning a lot. The book that comes with the toy is written so that he can understand the concepts of resistance and capacitance which is as far as we have gotten so far.

The toy is lightly built and would probably be reduced to junk outside of adult supervision but it is sturdy enough for him to use when supervised.

Best Deals for Electronic Playground 50-in-one

We bought this for a boy (age 10 1/2). He found it interesting for a while, but grew tired of it quickly. If you have a child who is really into tinkering with electronics, etc., then this might be a good choice. Otherwise, it might become boring too quickly. Once the user gets a feel for how each of the included circuits, resistors, etc. work, then there's not much left.

As a parent, I will add that the guidebook which comes with this kit is very informative. It provides a lot of easy-to-understand introductory information on circuits and similar topics. My son seemed interested while we did a few of the lessons and projects together during some "father/son" time. I think this type of information is good for developing brains, since it gives children a brand new topic to analyze and absorb; it also gives them a basic understanding our our "electrical world".

In summary, I have mixed feelings. If you have a child who shows a liking or interest in this type of toy (assembling, testing, doing small projects, taking apart his/her current electronics toys to see how they work, etc.), then this might be a good choice. But, I cannot pound the table and say this is a "great" toy. It's a "good" toy for the right child. If you think your child might be the "right" child, then I encourage you to give it a try!

Honest reviews on Electronic Playground 50-in-one

I purchased this for my 8 yo son who had an interest in learning more about electronics. My elder 11 yo daughter was not interested in sharing her snap circuits set (she has the SC-500). We were not interested in making a large initial investment. While I really like the snap circuits and the easy directions and ease of assembling different projects / experiements; but I prefer the electronic playground for the instructional manual. The manual does a very good job of explaining what is going on, for examples, how do resisters work, what are their puposes. It questions the student to come up with real life uses of a resister such as in a light dimmer.

The playground is made of relatively inexpensive cardboard (really wish that they would have used something that felt more sturdy). However, it was very easy for my son to wire between the different pieces. He did not have any problem following the provided instructions. With the additional background that was provided, he was able to take the intended lesson and further explore on his own .... and understand what he was doing. With the Snap Circuits Pro, I did not feel like my daughter was given enough information to freely and easily experiment. Interesting that they seem to be made by the same manufacturer. My daughter has had her set for 3 years so maybe things have changed.

This was a very inexpensive way to provide a great introduction to electronics. My middle child was following along with my son and agreeing with all of the written explanations she learned at school for why the experirments worked. As an intro kit, there is certainly quite a lot that they teach the kid thru the many "experiements" and it is a good guide to test a child's interest in electronics before committing to a much more expensive set.

We got this for Christmas, for my 8 year old son who is a budding electrician. He loves circuits and is familiar with Elenco products. He was so excited to get this, and pretty quickly figured out how to use it. It is definitely one of the most educational toys out there for engineer-wannabes, and the projects were fun.

But I am sorry to say that it is very cheaply made. The base is a thick cardboard rather than plastic, so it easily tears. In fact, we ripped the battery flap almost immediately, even though we knew to be careful. Nothing a little strong tape couldn't fix, but considering that this toy is supposed to be tinkered with, it really needs to be made stronger to last awhile.

Review of Arrow Copter

Arrow Copter
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

This is a cross between a sling shot and a simple helicopter toy. That doesn't sound like much until you actually play with one of these things! It shoots 75-100 feet into the air (even for a younger kid), then floats down at a slow enough pace that you get to watch it for quite some time. We got one of these in a toy store and gave it to a friend's kid. Watched how it worked, then got one for each of our nephews and nieces...ahem, and then begged them to let me shoot it once in a while. :D Shoot somewhere away from copter-eating trees, for you want to keep ahold of this copter in order to shoot it over and over.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

A simple toy that does all that it claims to. My only warning is to purchase multiples (either as individual Arrow Copters or two-packs):

First, like any flying toy, they *can* end up on rooftops, in trees or other inaccessible places, but that's if you exercise NO caution. But with a nice open space, and a little care, there's no reason that even young children can't enjoy these. Still, why risk having the fun end prematurely? (And trust me, these ARE fun!)

Second, once you see how much fun the kids are having, you'll be itching to snap a few into the air yourself, but you'll be hard-pressed to get the kids to share! :)

Third, they're inexpensive enough that purchasing even multiple two-packs won't shatter your wallet. Great to have on hand for stocking-stuffers, surprise gifts, or for when the young (or not so young) person in your life has had a rough day and could use a pick-me-up.

Fourth, though they won't survive true abuse or being driven over by a car, they're pretty sturdy for a lightweight flying toy.

Fifth, they're pretty harmless. Well, okay, if your kid can't be trusted not to shoot these at people, animals or breakables then this may not be the toy for him/her. But this would be a wonderful toy for any kid who isn't tempted by such impulses.

Sixth, they are a great way to get normally sedentary nerdy kids (like I was) running around outside in fresh air.

I remember getting these when they first came out and firing them off with great results -and I was only a six-year-old girl just starting first grade. Of course, back then, classmates gave me grief for playing with toys that weren't dolls, tea-sets, or other girly toys, but I didn't care. These were that much fun. Heck, I'm going to buy some for myself for old times' sake!

Congratulations on lasting this long, Arrow Copter! May you fly for many decades more!

As a young lad, I was often enticed into buying toys that claimed to soar into the sky 50ft, 100ft, 150ft or more, but I always came away disappointed, because they never lived up to their claims. Based on my childhood experiences, I didn't have high hopes for the Arrowcopter. Wow, was I shocked and amazed when I slung this thing for its first flight, and it effortlessly shot 150ft into the air. Once I started stretching the rubber band to its limit, the arrowcopter easily soared 300ft into the air. It's great fun. Makes a great stocking stuffer for any Dad...I mean, boy or girl.

HOWEVER, I bought several of these this time and they were molded crooked. Bent to the point of not working even. ONE of the several I purchased worked ALMOST as intended after some careful twisting. I thought about sending them back and decided it wasn't worth my time, so I threw them in the trash after about ten minutes. Sigh...
