My children were 8 & 9 yrs when we bought this. Noticed some children couldn't carry it & one was damaged. My kids are really careful with things & carrying it has never been a problem, since we either leave it in the car or store it in our closet. Mom loves it!!! We would never be able to keep up with all those cartridges & be able to keep the books neat without bending the pages. I have been able to sell books in mint condition online, because of this great system. Would buy this for anyone with a leap pad. These used to be much higher in the stores. I think the quality is great.

My six year old granddaughter no longer has to search for her cartridges in her toy chest because they're now neatly stored in the case which also holds all of her books. She loves feeling that she's carrying a case that she can unzip like a briefcase rather than the smaller backpack case. The zipper is very durable and well contructed. Because she's tall, she's able to carry the case much better than a younger child could. I would recommend the backpack case for anyone shorter than 48 inches.

I purchased this to hold my girl's quatum LeapPad. Everything fits perfectly inside. I fnd myself stuffing all sorts of things in it when we travel. My 4 year old son just got a LeapPad system with 9 books for Christmas, and this is the perfect way to store and transport it. We did write a number in permanent marker on each book and then the corresponding cassette, so now he can match them up himself. With this carrier, he can take his whole system with him in the car! It is very easy for him to put the different parts in the case himself.

We purchased this toy for our 8 year old son. He loved it. Once the christmas festivities was over, this was the first toy he wanted to play with and construct. It took barely 15 minutes to work with him to put it together and then he played with it for days. It really got him asking questions about how it works, etc... and he even observed that with the cover it come with it projects light, but if you use a soda plastic bottle as the cover, it projects a brighter, larger light. It still has him asking questions, and he keeps it on his bed side as his emergency go to flashlight. Well-made and safe. A great purchase!

We purchased this Green Science kit for our nine-year-old son for Christmas. He was able to put it together by himself and it has held up to the rough handling of a child. He is still just as fascinated with it and is constantly experimenting with ways to use the 'torch', including reading under the covers after lights out. We are so pleased with the product that we have ordered several different kits for his upcoming birthday.

I was sad that the whole thing wasn't a build. It was easy to put together, but I still wanted the knowledge for my son to see the inside "guts". When he is done with playing around with it, he is going to take it apart piece by piece and study it. I was also disappointed that one of the wire holes was missing. We had to just wrap the wire around the tab which got loose. Easy fix, though. Overall.. I would say I wish it was more educational from the start, instead of having to take it all apart to understand the concept. My son did say he hopes there is no battery that he is just triggering to make it light up.

My son (9yo) is very interested by the test tube. He is surprising me by his suddent "fatherly" attitude (promptly putting the tube in the dark at bed time and in the like in the morning). He read quite a lot from the explanation.

The web interraction is quite exciting, even thought it really did not function properly for us, but this kept me interested in the experiment as much as he did.

I just hope he could take it out of the tube and keep it after the experimentation. How is this going to end???

I found that this toy is not all it's advertised to be or rather it's not as exciting a toy as it appears. It is not for children under the age of about 8-9 years old. If the child is too young to care for a small pet, then they are too young for this toy. Mom or Dad (or Grandmother, in my case) will have to take care of this thing. Initially, it's very exciting!! You add the "food" and the Alien "grows" pretty quickly. I takes up to two weeks to reach full size. As soon as you add the liquid to the tube and the white foam material he's encased in begins to fizz away = my grandson was very excited. As soon as the fizzing stops the red light (heartbeat) in the head of the alien begins. He requires contant feeding in the early couple of weeks and he also requires 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. You can go the the Alien website and darken the room hold the alien in front of the flashing light on the screen to do diagnostic tests. The flashing lights allow you to diagnose the condition of your alien. The website will also tell you how many times you have left him alone in the light or darkness. BUT, once the "newness" has worn off he just sits in his tube with his light flashing. My grandson never asks about him anymore. So, I'm still taking care of our Alien. He no longer relies on his food but eats only plain tap water now.

The excitement of this toy wears off very quickly. There is nothing about it to maintain a child's interest for any length of time. Still, it is a novelty and my grandson was very excited when he first got it. His interest just didn't last long. I have no idea how long this thing "lives" but it's been over a month now and he's still going strong.

As a scientist mom you'd think I could easily get baking soda and vinegar from the kitchen and do these experiments without a stupid kit.

However I found that having specific "equipment" (test tubes) and "materials" engaged the interest of my kids. And most importantly, step by step suggestions for what experiments to do and what to say about them, helped me make this both interesting and educational for my kids.

My kids (3 and 4) went wild testing everything in the fridge to see if it contains acid (and thus if it would make baking soda fizz); they liked that they could guess from sourness and then test their predictions.

Ever since then my kids keep pestering me to do more chemistry. That's pretty significant. They make up (often quite wrong) theories about why different liquids fizz or mix the way they do. They got thinking about the fact that this is a question that can be asked, or that demands an explanation. To me that is a huge educational value.

Overall you could easily do the same things with kitchen materials and a well designed plan, but the kit makes it easy.

I was a little disapointed with this kit. We have seen better. I have to say that it does have educational notes in with each experiment to help teach what is going on. I was expecting a wider variety of experiments and more props. Kids love most of all to mix things and there were no droppers or little scoops to allow them to do that. The "chemicals" were all in opaque silver lined bags so they were hard to pour and impossible to get a hand in to dig contents out meaning that mom had to pour it all into the one measuring spoon taking some of the fun out of it all. A different kit we had purchased came with test tubes, droppers, measuring cups, little scoops etc. and they had more fun when they were able to do more things themselves! It's not a bad product just looks more involved from the box than it really is.

After attempting hands-on science by using a curriculum manual with my homeschooled children, I finally realized that I needed a "kit" that was open-and-go. And this kit was my answer!

Yes, there are items in the box that one would find in one's own pantry or cupboard, but I appreciate that everything is already there.

I used to use a curriculum, which claimed that all hands-on science experiments would require things found around the house. For some reason, however, those items were rarely in my home.

We have a large family, a child with special needs, are frequently running around taking a child to therapy, helping with our family's new business, etc. and I felt I was letting my children down by not following through with the experiments they so wanted to do.

I bought a few more "easy" science books and tried to implement those, but for one reason or another, things didn't work out.

A friend of mine suggested I look for some "science in a box" kits and I was nervous about what I would find. She recommended this company and I selected a couple of items, hoping it would work.

I was ecstatic when I opened the instructions to the first experiment to discover that the only items I had to fetch from my kitchen were a dish and a cup of water!

And as for future experiments, I have a very short list right up front of things I will plan to have on hand for when the time comes.

Clearly this kit is not for everyone, but for someone who is short on time and needs the simplicty of open-and-go, I recommend it.

I've used lots of different types of microscope lights professionally, but never an LED one until now.

First impression was how light and 'plasticy' it felt. Plugged it in for a test before fitting it to the microscope, a Bausch & Lomb SX4 with the 0.5X objective, to make sure it worked. Plugged it in, turned it on, looked to see how bright it would get and mistake. Don't look directly into it. No pain or damage, but it is pretty bright. Dims to fairly low. Time to try it out!

Put it on a ring light adapter we already had. The enclosed adapter WILL NOT fit this microscope since it has a 1.5" x 1/32" thread (from memory check your manual to be sure). I knew it wouldn't from the description and counted on the opening to be about right. The ring itself is a close fit to the adapter I had already. It feels like it will help stabilize the light in addition to the three screwed in holder. There are no 'rubber feet' on the screw ends to help them grab, so I'll see how it holds over time. Worse comes to worse, it would probably stay on with a rubber band wrapped around the adapter. It's that close a fit to the adapter.

The light from it is toward the bright end of what I'd like for a light. For a good amount of light for my work it's adjusted toward the dimmer end. That speaks well for it's potential longevity since the brighter and longer LEDs operate, the quicker they dim. They say in the description it's a 'cool' light, and it is. Much bluer a tint than my old fluorescent ring light. The light seems well distributed and I didn't notice any spotty reflections from all the individual LEDs like I expected I would. With the 0.5X objective the viewing distance is about 6", so if your microscope has a different range this observation may not apply.

I'll have to use it more to be sure, but for my purpose, examining electronic circuit boards, I think it'll be fine.

My son loves the TV show Ni Hao, Kai-Lan and I enjoy watching it too. I knew he would enjoy playing this game and I was right. The Leapfrog Clicksart products are a great tool in giving children their first experience with computers. I like how the game interacts with my son letting him know when to use the keypad, mouse, etc. The game also lets him know when he is correct and encourages him when he provides a wrong answer until he gets it right. I am impressed.

I had high hopes for this game...maybe my daughter just is not old enough (she is almost 4) but she is not that into it, but really i think the control is difficult and frustrates her. Originally purchased for my 1 year old's birthday, but her 7 year old brother loves it too! There's just something so fascinating about popping those funky balls in the top, turning the lever , watching them spin around and down into the little hatch then doing it over and over again!! Besides being entertaining, it teaches cause and effect, develops fine motor skills and keeps surprising baby every time the balls appear at the bottom. I love the retro 'gumball machine' look of this toy and even the balls have vibrant patterns.There's also a key on the side that makes that great old fashioned 'ratchet' sound when turned.I plan on buying this toy for friends' kids too. So happy with this purchase!

My six year old got this for his birthday and spent the next 36 hours intensively working on mechanics (didn't even open a Lego package) and did so over and over until he really got it and showed everyone in the family what could be done. I highly recommend this kit. I also recommend setting aside a little storage box for this toy because once you tear open the cardboard box, there is no place to keep the pieces.

I bought this as a gift for my elderly Mother who is experiencing some memory loss. She went the normal route through the medical system and meds but with no success.

She used it in the beginning but grew tired of it within a few days. First it sat outside the box next to her favorite chair. Then it sat in the box next to her favorite chair. Then it moved in the box to the book shelf in the other room and there it remains.

My belief is, in the use for elderly persons with memory problems,they have to want to use it. Being from a none computer use generation she viewed it as a "toy" which it probably could be depending on the situation.

There are so many variations on age and type of memory loss it would be impossible to make a blanket review and judge just from my experience. For the price get one and try it.

With it's small hard compacted system, I expected nothing more than a glorified calculator. Upon putting batteries into it. I learned that it had alot more charm. It plays gentle music, and gives you a score of how well you can answer math questions. It comes with an instruction booklet which is pretty helpful. The basic training test will give you 100 questions to answer. (I very much enjoyed this.) then there is an advanced training test that will see your abilities on counting, focusing on numbers, and memory.

Overall, it's not a bad little gadget. Educational, The best thing about it is that it keeps track of how you've been doing test wise. It actually graphs your improvements and faults so you can keep track.

I use it every day while I am commuting on the bus, and it turns wasted time into a solid investment. When I am consistent, there is a very noticeable difference in my mental sharpness all day long. I LOVE this product, and recommend it to everyone when I can work it into the conversation. So far I only use the math function, because that is the one that research shows is effective at reversing Alzheimer's. I am looking for opportunities to read aloud, that's the other activity that activates the brain.

This is a good activity book, but it is not really a journal or a diary. It leaves plenty of room to do things suggested in the book, but not blank pages. If you are looking for a book with blank pages, look elsewhere.
