I bought these for my 5 year old son. He's not allowed to have gum or mints in school so I thought these may help him focus better by having them to chew on. He said they are too hard to chew, and doesn't care for them. I actually tried one, and it is pretty hard, unlike other sensory chew sticks that are available.

I work with children with austism and had a student who pulverized every writing tool we found because of his need to chew and bite down hard. I tried the tubes but would end up with a big drooly mess on the pencil. These chewable shapes are tough enough to handle his bite and he isn't a big drippy mess. We have been able to keep the same pencil since putting on the new toppers.

This is a great product! Gives my child an outlet on "bad" days, without looking like therapy.

The only caveat explain to your child that this isn't an eraser it looks exactly like one. You don't really want your child then putting in their mouth.

My 6 year old daughter will chew off the eraser, metal band, and start chewing through the wood of a pencil if she doesn't have anything better to chew on. We've had these for a few weeks and they've been very helpful. (She also uses another handheld chew stick.) She has managed to chew off a few tiny bits from the star so I don't expect these to last forever. Still, these are very handy to have available and don't look "babyish" in with a 1st grader's school supplies.

This package comes with 5 owl pellets, approximately 1 1/2" long. As the other reviewer mentioned, they are just wrapped in foil and sent in an ordinary manila padded envelope without any directions. I was able to find instructional videos and directions by doing a search online and even a bone identification chart, which helped my kids (ages 9 and 6) identify their findings. Basically, you carefully pull apart the pellets on a piece of white paper and very gently pull out the bones, teeth, etc. with your fingers or tweezers. Our pellets contained many bones and several skulls, much to the kids' delight. Our bone chart led us to believe that our owls consumed shrews. This project is a good lesson in patience; it kept us entertained for about 30 minutes. They got to keep their "findings" in a plastic baggie. Be sure to wash hands thoroughly after handling the pellets.

I teach 5th grade science, and for a end of the year activity I decided to purchase owl pellets and allow my students to dissect them and identify the bones. Each owl pellet carries a surprising amount of bones to identify and pretty much every one of them that my kids dissected contained at least one skull, ribs, jaws, hips, etc. Once taken out of the pellet itself, students can then work in groups to identify the type of animal that their owl had eaten.

One thing that you should know before you buy these is that your package does not come with a bone identification chart. However, this is not really a problem because you can download them from countless internet sites for free. All in all, this is a perfect idea for a lesson plan and can work well for discussing ecosystems, habitats, animal diversity, food webs, etc. Kids will love doing this and it is something that they will always remember.

The seller calims that these are packed in a "heated sealed poly bag". They weren't for me. There were five loose tinfoil balls rolling around in the cardboard box in which they came. So if they lied about that, then how can we just take their word for it that the pellets are "professionally treated" as they claim? The preprinted info sheet that comes with the product has no company info at all and seems to just be something the sellers got from a zoo or nature conservancy. That paperwork claims the pellets are autoclaved, but since it does not (in any way) seem to be the actual sellers' paperwork AND seeing that the seller did not package the items the way they claim to on the Amazon product page, I have little faith that this is true. We did enjoy the pellets, so something is telling me that I can't give this review just one star. However I can't see giving them more than that between the mispackaging and doubts about whether they were "professionally treated".

This toy is a must! Why?

1. It's beautiful, like a work of art. And any way the child "stacks 'em up" looks cool and creative!

2. It's a stacking toy, but because of the lovely shapes, colors and alternate holes, the child can be creative in how he/she stacks the parts.

3. The toy is exquisitely well-made, durable.

4. It's non-toxic and made out of eco-friendly rubber wood. (It's not rubber!) I cannot say enough about Plan Toys. (see bottom of my post)

5. It's a keepsake or heirloom hand-made-down.

6. The pieces are light enough and shaped in such a way that when the child throws the pieces (and he/she will throw them at some point) they should not severely injure anyone.

7. Read the other reviews for more reasons why to buy this toy.

I am so glad I bought this for my son. He started playing with it when he was 12 months old. It was a tad more complicated for him than his regular stacking toy. However, he is now 14 months old and has learned how to stack this slightly more complex stacking toy. He also uses the pieces individually as a cell phone. And occasionally puts the pieces into his dump truck and has the truck cart them around.

Overall, it's one of the best purchases we have made for our son. I love that it has no bells and whistles and yet he finds it interesting and stimulating.

My daughter is 17 months and she has been playing with this for about 11 months now. At first she would just play with the colored pieces and crashed them together, then she eventually learned how to stack them using the middle hole, but now she's learning to use the holes on the ends. It's also been great for teaching colors and she knows red, blue, and yellow. The post that they stack on may be a little dangerous to leave around if you have younger kids (my daughter tripped and fell right onto it once, that could have been REALLY bad). I still love this purchase though and have bought it for my friend's kids too.

This sounded really fun, but is a little less interesting than watching ants. They just buzz aimlessly about and lose their powers REALLY slowly. By the time one's light turns red the children are long gone to something else and I had almost fallen asleep myself. As a gift this was an embarrassment and my goal of engaging them in action that is not on a screen was a dismal failure. I do not usually disparage products, just assuming another child with a different set of interests might enjoy it, but don't buy this.

I bought this cute caterpillar for my daughter when she was about 13 months old. She loves pulling this little caterpillar all over the place. It has the cutest little wobble and is just so darn stinking cute! It's a good weight because of it's high quality materials. Which is good because it keeps the toy from flipping over when my daughter decides to run and pull it. Smooth round corners with very durable paint. It has a kind of rubber on it's feet/wheels so it can grip/crawl on the smoothest of surfaces. My only slight complaint is that I wish the string was a bit longer. But that is because my daughter is really tall. It would also be nice to see it come in other colors. Those two things though have no impact on me recommending this toy over and over again to any parent. My daughter plays REALLY rough with toys! This little caterpillar still looks new after all my daughter has put it though. Because of it's great quality, I've decided to buy all my daughter's toy foods for her kitchen from this company as well. Great product, you won't be disappointed!

Very sweet little catepillar-I would definitely recommend if you've got a "puller" in your brood. I have realized now, after a few attempts of different kinds of pull toys, that I have two "pushers", so neither of them wanted to pull this little guy behind them. That was a little disappointing because it's never ever been played with and while it's not expensive, it's still not cheap. I can't find the receipt because it got lost amongst the Christmas mayhem, so we'll give this to someone else eventually.

My toddler (16 months) uses Mr. Caterpillar like a little push car. When he tries to pull Mr. Pillar, Pillar tips easily and often ends up being dragged along on his side. Mr. Pillar is not easily righted. However, Mr. Pillar is exceptionally cute, and my son seems to enjoy pushing him around the floor with his other cars. Perhaps when he's a little older, my child will be less enthusiastic with his pulling, and Mr. Pillar will be able to wobble along sedately (and adorably) behind him.

ETA: AT 18 months, my son is rocking this all over the house.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed this game. Typically at our house we play it with adults, and since you "play for" different features of countries with each round, the game is different every time. The game involves strategy as well as luck, and is also highly educational, even for adults. As with any game based on geography, it is slightly out-dated (e.g., no South Sudan), but that is easily overlooked. Highly recommended!

My son loves volcanoes and it's really hard to find a volcano toy! This fits the bill perfectly. For now, we've made the ice volcano and he also uses it for playing with dinosaurs. It seems kind of funny to wax poetic about a silly little carrying bag, but I was very surprised and pleased by this. If I do flutophones with my classes again, I'll hit up the admin for 85¢ per kid and get a bunch of these. I bought myself a flutophone and one of these just to have my own to demo to the kids, and when this came, it was hard not to do a commercial to the kids about it. Surprising quality. The "peek-a-boo" flaps, pull tabs, action and simple language in this book made it a big hit with our two children -(one toddler and one preschool age)! The darling mouse, Maisy, does lots of activities at school, such as paints pictures, writes a story, dances like a ballerina, and even adds and subtracts! Like other lift the flap/pull the tab books, your child can interact with this book. My preschool age daughter has even learned to add and subtract from this book and very much enjoys "reading" the book to me! The Maisy books are a huge success in our home...we're ordering four more to add to our growing collection!

We have a couple of these and use them at dinnertime and occassionally at playtime when coloring. My son is 3 but we have been using them since he was just under two.

We have special Write a Mat crayons for the placemat and they wipe off nicely. After meals I just wipe the placemat down with a hot soapy washcloth and it's back to normal, ready to reuse. It's very durable. My son likes these mats.

I've never tried other brands of crayons, because I'm afraid they won't wipe off so maybe that's the only drawback to this product, the propriatary crayons. Still, we enjoy it.

As with most of the negative comments, the placemat wears terribly after repeated washing. My 2 year old loves singing the alphabet and pointing to letting and saying what they are. It's unfortunate that the letters are faded to the point he can't read some anymore.
