I bought these for my kids to help reinforce the base ten concept. I allowed them to just play with them for a couple of days before diving into any real lessons. We have done a lot of "trading" exercises and I can see them really starting to grasp the concept. They have been very helpful.

I do, however, see that there could be some problems with these manipulatives. The blocks are not weighted, so some children might have a difficult time understanding that the 1000 cube is ten times more than the 100 flat, since it clearly is hollow and does not weigh anything close to 10 times as much. I think for a truly multisensory experience purchasing a base ten set that is weighted would be helpful. Luckily for us, it has not been an issue, and for the great price I don't think it could be expected.

My other criticism is the fact that there is only 1 thousand cube in the set and they are not offered seperately. 3 would have been ideal for me.

On another note, these were cheaper for me to buy directly from Assessment Services. The set was $13.50 plus $9.50 shipping (orders over $100 get free shipping).

I homeschool my children. My 7yo was having a hard time understanding why borrowing/regrouping works but this made it "click" within 10 minutes, so much so that he can do many problems in his head now. I can think of many other concepts where these will be helpful and plan to get many years of use from these (he is the oldest of 5). Wish I'd gotten them 2 years ago. Our former math curriculum used dimes and pennies to teach place value but these manipulatives are much more intuitive.

It's a great educational product. My only two complaints are the packaging and the activity guide. I thought it was going to include some kind of storage case, but it didn't. It just came in plastic bags. I'll just keep it in the cardboard box it came in, for now. The activity guide is one sheet of paper folded in half with few suggestions. I confused activity guide with activity book so I was disappointed when I saw the guide and not the book. Beside those two complaints, this product is great and I'm glad I made the purchase.

This is advertised as a kit, but that turned out to be true in a way I never expected. It does not require assembly. Instead, it comes with a variety of "trinkets" which can be inserted into the end of the kaleidoscope for an infinite number of effects. My granddaughter and I spent several hours experimenting with their trinkets and many small household items and toys.

Purchased this at a toy store while on vacation this summer for my 5 year old grandaughter. She loves it! And so do I!

The kit contains a sturdy hardboard cylinder in bright pink. The cover on the end can be removed so you can add all the neat sparkles included. Look around the house for even more fun things to add to make it your own creation. Great imagination builder.

I think it will hold up well if handled with care. It does say 7 and up, probably for that reason. However, my 5 year old can use this just fine on her own. She is very hard on her toys so just needs a gentle reminder to go easy. I bought 3 more from Amazon to give as Xmas gifts. I love kaleidoscopes and this is a great kit for all ages!

This is a terrific kit, and very reasonably priced. And it's made in the USA, so that's a big plus. The only two caveats I would give is that it needs strong light to really pop the colors-so outside, or near a bright window, is best for viewing. The second is that when getting the cap off to change the lovely things in the tumbler, adult supervision and care is advised, as just yanking off the cap can ruin the kaleidoscope. The cap needs to come off slowly and carefully, and ditto for replacing the cap. If you do this, it is quite durable and should last a long time. Little bits of ribbon and special clay or glass beads or shiny buttons can be added to the kit, the possibilities are pretty extensive.

I was looking for a fun and non-traditional V-day gift for my 2 daughters and their cousin (aged 3-7). Everyone loved these and the kids are still using them as well as the jewels for a variety of fun and games. I especially like the feature of sending the kaleidoscope with some items to put in but that can also be switched out or used in varying combinations.

I was very excited about purchasing this toy for my son's 4th birthday. The toy lists geography facts and trivia which are educational and fun. However, when this toy is turned on it constantly plays loud Mario-style music with no option to turn off that function. It's extremely distracting to talk over this music when trying to assist your child when playing with the toy. Which, you WILL be assisting your child because I can't think of many preschoolers that could tell you the whereabouts of the Taj Majal, the capital of Argentina or which is the longest river in the world. I think this toy would be great for older children who are easily bored on long car rides. This one will probably collect dust until my son is a little older as he's already disinterested. Ages 3+? .. with HEAVY parental involvement, yes.

This is a great idea for a child that already knows how to read and wants to learn more about the world map. However it is listed for 3+ and there is nothing a 3 year old can do. My 41/2 year old needs help. Also, we can seem to the the World Grand Prix feature (the ONLY thing that has to do with Lightnening McQueen) to work correctly. We can't link more than 1 section. It may be going back to the store.

My son really enjoyed all the activities on this toy. He doesnt play with it as much now at 16mths as he did at 7 months, but he still will pull it out every once in a while and just sit in the floor with it and play with it so it was deff worth the money.

I ordered this for my 2-year old for Christmas since she has a friend with a keyboard and loves to play with it. It arrived and I was surprised at how little it is. It's good that it's small so she can carry it (which is why we bought the carry along keyboard!) but it's so little that it's more like a pretend toy than a real keyboard. As an adult, I can't actually play songs on it very easily without hitting more than one key at a time. Made for teeny fingers, that's for sure.

In addition, the sound is what you'd expect from a toy... fake and tinny. However, for the $40 price tag, I guess I was expecting it to be a little better. it has a variety of demo songs, but none of them sound as good or real as some other keyboards her friends have (though I couldn't find any of those in stores or online right before the holidays, so we ordered this one instead!)

It does have a record/playback option, but it only records the keyboard and not voices, like a microphone would, so that was a little bit of a disappointment as well. Despite all this, she's been carrying it around the house and has already dropped it more than once and it's held up fine. She seems to enjoy it, which is what's important, however, I think I could've spent half the price on a real "toy" and she'd feel the same way. If you're looking to inspire musical aptitude or interest, I'd recommend investing in a more real keyboard and less of a toy, which this turned out to be.

When I was looking for a simple piano for my toddler (2 year-old), I was not looking for something very grand but something that she'd still enjoy and get familiarized so that down the road she'd be able to enjoy the real thing later.

There is no real need for a bigger and more expensive version, so this will help keep her occupied for the time being. The sound from this unit is sufficient, though it would be far from true if one stated that it had a great sound. It does the job and for that price, what more can you expect.

Overall, this was probably the most played with toy on Christmas, and she was not one that was left wanting on this day. In all, I would say this was a good purchase. It seems pretty durable, so I am sure small drops will not affect it.

The different instrument sounds are fun, the volume adjuster is a nice addition (especially for the parents), and there are a few other things such as percussion buttons as well as a recording and demo sounds.

One drawback would be that the keyboard does not allow many key strokes simultaneously. Chop-sticks are doable, but nothing much more sophisticated is allowed...the keyboard just does not recognize it. This drawback though is not very warranted though. Considering the age and level of proficiency, this is not a requirement.

Therefore, feel free to be confident that this is a decent buy for a child that would like to play with a piano whom does not quite have the aptitude to yet perform complicated pieces...something that will not put the parent back too much either. ;o)

I love this keyboard. It has really neat lights that start glittering whenever you play. It has a good volume control to turn down quite low, when needed. It has several different tones and rhythms. It shuts off automatically when not in use. It has a very cool juke box style and appeal to it. In fact, as a toy, this keyboard is a home run.

However, it falls short for me because the key values are off. In other words, if you play what you think to be a C note, what you actually hear is a D#. The keyboard sounds great, because all the keys are off by the exact same 3 semitones. However, as an adult singer, I wish to know what notes I'm tapping out without having to do mental calculations. The other 'problem' is that it only has 2-note polyphony, so you cannot finger and play a full chord only two out of the three notes will sound out.

This is great for a toy, but I will have to get a slightly more professional unit.

I ordered this owl to go with my Deni Happi Tree nursery theme. It doesn't really look like any designs I have in the nursery except for the big eyes. Besides the red heart on the side, it has a pink heart under the beak. I find it strange looking and was a little disappointed how flat it is. Was expecting it to be a little more rounded or fuller. It will not stand up on its own, but will if propped up against a pillow or wall. Seems durable and is soft. The baby is too little to play with it so it is just an accessory piece. I still think it is a strange looking owl, but it is kind of cute in an alien looking way. It arrived in good condition.

The magnets are not big enough or strong enough for the size of the numeral. Slightly dissappointed. I bought some letters from another company that were awesome, the magnets covered the entire back of each letter and they were perfect....might be Lakeshore Learning but I am not sure.

Pros: Great big letters that no one can eat. Excellent for babies (my two are one year old). The colors are bold and bright. The magnets work and don't fall out with rough play. I love that it comes in a plastic bucketwhich is almost as big of a hit as the numbers themselves.

Cons: Just the right width for slipping under the fridge and not slipping back out! Keep an eye on what ends up under the fridge. You will probably have to slide the fridge out a few times a week to retrieve the lost magnets.

We have the snail and the Dancing Alligator. This one is better. While the Alligator certainly makes more noise and is a great toy, it is prone to tipping over and our toddler ends up just dragging it around on its side or its back.

The Snail however, has no "upside down". It works right side up or upside down and always manages to right itself if it gets on its side for some reason. Can't say the same for the Alligator.

Our family is happy with both. Nevertheless if this is your first purchase and you're trying to decide between the Snail and the Dancing Alligator, you might be happier with the Snail.

I purchased this pull along snail for my daughter before she could even walk. She used to sit and just hold him and play with him... as she grew and learned to walk he quickly became a favorite, she pulled him all over the house, to the store, to grandma's, even to bed he came (try rolling over on a hard snail in the night OUCH LOL). She is 3 now and still plays with slimey the snail at least every other day. His colors are worn, I've had to glue him a couple times but she still loves him. I'm here today to buy a new one for her since he's reaching the end of his days but I couldn't be happier with the toy or durability being that it's been a couple years of daily rough play (he's gone done the stairs a few times).

This toy is a HUGE hit with my granddaughters! I didn't realize that the snail's body moved up and down so much, which provides sensory feedback when pulling it. The movement is so smooth and funny to watch that it mesmerized the 10 month-old and the 2 1/2 year-old loves pulling it along behind her. Even the 8 year-old took a turn at pulling it around the house, desisting only when 2 1/2 year-old became very insistent. I'm going to order the alligator next and may invest in a second snail, just to keep the peace!

My toddler was already 25 months when we gave him this snail as a stocking stuffer, so I was afraid he might be too old for it. (She's a tad big for a stocking stuffer, but we put her on top and she peeked over the edge.) I was wrong, he loves pulling it around and imagining with "Suzy", he takes her on walks and feeds her. I love how she rights herself no matter which way she is pulled, and she is so cute in person, photos don't do her justice. I love that this snail is so simple and so much of the way she is played with is up to my son and his imagination. She is also durable, he has insisted on taking her out for walks and she has ended up with some scratches from the pavement, but not as much wear as I expected.
