I purchased these directly from the Djeco website about a year ago for my then 1 year old. (Amazon wasn't selling them at the time.) I was looking for a high quality magnetic letter that satisfied all of the following criteria: wooden, durable, and non-toxic. Most of the letters out there are plastic or foam, none of which I felt comfortable purchasing. I found Djeco letters after conducting a lot of online research, and they are perfect! While the Mudpuppy Wooden Magnetic Playful Patterns Letters are well ranked, I own a set of their numbers, they are not as durable. When my son puts the Mudpuppy numbers in his mouth, the paint chips off and the wood softens slightly. When he puts the Djeco letters in his mouth, this doesn't happen. The letters are a good size and will hold up for years, as long as you don't lose any!

I don't love them though. They are thin and the magnet is very weak, but they are really cute and made of wood NOT plastic. I wouldn't spend the money on them again. My daughter lost 2 of the 3 I put out for her within an hour. They are very small.

These letters are ADORABLE, with great colors & patterns, and have a sheet magnet across the whole back, so there are no little magnets to pop out. I had prepared myself to order another set (because we need two Ns to spell my son's name and weirdly there is only one N included)..... however, they've been on the fridge fewer than 24 hours and the colored layer has peeled off at the "point" of the W. (Most of those hours were overnight, so it's not damage-through-play.) I would have let one or the other of those things slide, but both together are enough to make me reconsider. We can make do with the Z on its side.

Honest reviews on Djeco / Wooden Magnet Play Set, Alphabet Letters

Good quality magnets. My little one really liked playing with them for a while but has now lost interest. Perhaps he will go back to them when he starts reading. My only complaint is that they are smaller than I thought and some of the letters were too small to give to my one year old. I was concerned he would eat them.

This cartridge is great for my 3 year old. She uses it all by herself and loves to play the games. She really enjoys listening to the two stories about the princesses and she listens to them over and over. She is learning a lot as she plays with her v.reader. It is great because she loves to read and I can't always sit down and read with her but with this she can read as long as the batteries last. I would recommend it to any parent of a toddler.

It only took playing the game once at the easy and medium levels for my son and I to understand the game. Since then, we have played it at the highest level many times. After reading the reviews, I was concerned that it was a really difficult game. It's not. Maybe it's just us, but we had no problem understanding how to play.

I love that we work together to play the game. Everyone has a great time playing and is happy with the outcome of the game. In the game you have to work together, take care of others, plan ahead and even share your goods with others. It's a very sweet game. My 10 y.o. son enjoys the game.

We also have Harvest Time from the same company. It's one of our favorite games too. As a family, we really enjoy the games this company produces.

I think the concept of cooperative games is interesting and fun and the best thing about them is the lack of "winners" and "losers" at the end, which is nice especially when playing with people you care about (and what's fun about playing games with people you dislike?). I had previously played Wildcraft so I wasn't completely unfamiliar with the concept of cooperative board games.

I played this game with another adult and two pre-teens. This game is billed as appropriate for ages 5+. It comes with several sheets of instructions. You choose which rules you follow (and corresponding level of complexity) based on the ages of the people who are playing. We, of course, jumped right in to the highest level game and then, once we started actually trying to understand the rules, backpedaled until we were playing the kiddie version. It was still a little difficult to get the hang of it right off! But we all stuck with it. Once we got the hang of it, it was quite enjoyable.

(Based on our experience, I don't know that I would recommend it for kids as young as the makers say it's for.)

Many of the game pieces, and the game box itself, are made out of fairly flimsy cardboard and would not hold up to repeated and/or rough use.

That being said, it is fairly priced for what you are getting. It was definitely creative and provided hours of entertainment once we figured out the rules. I'm glad I took the chance on a review-less game and tried it.

Best Deals for Family Pastimes / Ogres & Elves - A 3-in-1 Co-operative Game

I thnk this game is a wonderful game. It teaches great skills and is very interesting. The game is a little complicated for younger children until they get use to it and then they really like it and get into it. I like that it has different games for different age groups. Highly recommended alternative to regular board games.

Honest reviews on Family Pastimes / Ogres & Elves - A 3-in-1 Co-operative Game

I got this game for my 7-year-old and we have played it several times now. It's a bit complex to learn all the rules and procedures at first, but now that we have mastered that part it is really fun! Challenging, absorbing, promotes teamwork and communication as well as strategizing. I agree with others' comments that it would be nice if the tiny cardboard pieces were bigger and sturdier, makes me nervous that we'll lose them, but we are keeping the small pieces in a ziploc baggie in the box and so far so good. I really recommend this game for kids who are bright and like a challenge. You can play at different levels as well so the game grows with your child.

I love the concept of cooperative games, and had been wanting to try some from this company. I was really disappointed in how complex and hard to follow the instructions were, even for adults. We kept at it and finally got the hang of it, but once we did, we discovered it wasn't really much fun. My kids are 6 and 8.

This is very small, about the size of a Pringles can. And, oddly, you need to have a key to open or close it. What if you lose the key once it's buried for 20+ years? Overpriced and useless.

Just received the Smithsonian Time Capsule, for a project for my 1st grader (memories from his friends/life in Boston, before we move out west). It's fun and official looking. I just wanted to post the actual interior dimensions. The actual space for items is 3" diameter, 7.25" long. Yes, it's small, but it should fit a small supply of photos, notes, and small toys.

This little monkey is very cute but also very loud and attention-seeking (you know the type of toy; he keeps calling for more play time if he feels neglected for even a moment ha). There is an "off" button but no volume control. If I were rating him as a mom, I would deduct a star for these reasons but as I'm reviewing him on behalf of my 2.5 year old, I'll leave him with his 5 stars as she loves his songs, the ease with which she can change his outfits, his catchy songs, etc. He is great for reinforcing colors, refining motor control, modeling good manners ("please," "thank you!") and following instructions. His red hat has to go on a certain way to stick (side-ways, sort of -my husband had to show us), but that's no deal breaker. A bonus is that his shoes are connected, so there's no way to lose one (it's all or nothing!). If your baby likes this, she (or he) might like the Minnie Mouse kit I think by Fisher Price? where you can dress Minnie by clicking in her (slightly more pliable) plastic dresses, hats, and shoes (which are also one piece). This monkey is a great alternative if you're looking for a more gender neutral (and louder?) option and to be honest, the monkey has been more engaging for my toddler because of the music. We've only had him for two days so I'll update if this changes but she's truly been very excited by this little guy and sits playing with him for long stretches of time (i.e., more than 15 min!). We bought him for twelve bucks and change, so might be worth waiting for a sale although I do think there might be a limited window where he'll be interesting to a toddler (and at 2.5 years old, I think my daughter will probably outgrow him within the next month or two).

I bought this monkey for my 18 month old for christmas, he has not gotten a chance to play with it but his dad and I have!! It is very fun and teaches alot. Daily life skills, colors and more. It also sings songs according to what he has on. For example he will say put on my yellow pajamas and once it is put on he will say thank you and then sing a song about pajamas and say goodnight. This is hands down one of the best fun and learning toys my son will have this christmas!!

Best Deals for VTech Dress and Discover Friend

As soon as I saw this toy on Amazon.com, I knew I had to buy it for my daughter, even though she is much younger than the recommended age (she was 6 months at the time). Now, at 1 year old, she simply loves it, even though I still sometimes need to help her 'dress' the monkey. It is a very unique and sturdy toy, as cute as it can be, and I am sure she will use it for a long time and that it will still be in pristine shape for her siblings.

I have one complaint though: I would love to be able to buy extra pieces of clothing for it. 8 pieces is fair enough for a start, but I quickly started to wish that there were more pairs of shoes, glasses, a cap, etc. Not only because it would be more fun for the child, but also because when the monkey says it needs its green shoes to go out, I am not sure if my baby puts whatever pair of shoes she finds on, or if she actually would make a difference between a green pair and a red one. And since this toy aims at teaching the name of pieces of clothing, why not do a more complete job at it and bring extras to the table?

A suggestion for VTech: I am not usually a fan of 'girly toys', as in general I prefer unisex toys. But for this one, I am sure girls would love a girly version of the toy, because they would be able to understand when it is appropriate to wear a dress and when a more casual outfit is best. And actually, a girl monkey would have the advantage to be able to wear a dress or a skirt as well as shorts, which would give baby the opportunity to learn about clothing for both sexes.

Such a cute, fun toy for young toddlers to learn their colors and clothing options. My son absolutely adores his, so we had to buy this one for my girlfriend's daughter when she turned 2. It too was a huge hit!

The product came packaged very nicely. It gave you the feel of quality. Unfortunately there were no instructions given on how to assemble the few parts that needed assembly, but I was able to do it by looking at some pictures of an assembled unit. The game is simple to play and very addictive. My wife already wants to take it to a party with us. I highly recommend this product for anyone looking for a simple but fun and addictive game.

Best Deals for Table Skittles - Devil Among the Tailors - Jaques London

I have had this game for years and was very happy to be able to find a good quality wooden one. The post is a little unstable, but so far it has lasted. The game is well made. I work with students from Kindergarten to Grade 8, and this is one of the all-time favorites for all ages. They simply love it and most ask where they can get one. The price might seem like a lot (I think I may have paid more when I bought mine directly from Jacques years ago), but when I see the games that sell for $20 or more and are just plastic junk, I cannot complain about the price.

Honest reviews on Table Skittles - Devil Among the Tailors - Jaques London

This is a fun game for all ages. Hard to find in the United States. I do not think it is worth $99.00 though. The pole the ball and chain hang from seems to be a little unstable. I thought the wood and base would be heavier and more sturdy. Too bad more companies in the U.S. do not make this and distribute it.

What a great idea! These laminated cards on a ring can be stowed easily in a purse, backpack, or hooked to a stroller. I love the variety of ideas and activities suggested on these cards and the fact that they can be used with a variety of ages. We all enjoyed using this product and give it a big thumbs up. They are going on my list of things to give to young parents.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My daughter received the original Mobigo when it first came out-when she was three years old. She loved it almost obsessively. It was terrific for car rides and times when Mommy needed time to take a shower! After two years, it still works perfectly and still holds her interest, though she had begun favoring "apps" on my iPhone and tablet. When I was offered the chance to test out the new version, I was thrilled.

From the moment I put it in her hand, I had to fight to get it back out. All the old games are compatible, and they also kindly let you download any of your previously downloaded games onto this one, too. Nice, Vtech.

THE NEW STUFF IN VERSION 2

-Motion Sensor

My daughter adores the preloaded "Hamster Highway" game, which is the one that highlights the new motion sensor. When you tilt the Mobigo left, right, back, or forward, you control the action of the hamster rolling around the race track in his hamster ball. It's one of the rare Mobigo games that isn't educational, but that's fine. I don't need there to be an educational lesson in everything she does... pure entertainment is good, too! Plus, it helps with motor skills.

-Microphone and Photo Storage

The other main new feature is the microphone, which is highlighted in the "Photos" feature. You can add your own photos, making this a great spot to keep some of your child's favorite photos, but to start, they preload it with eight generic kid-friendly photos: a dog, a hot air balloon, etc. When you press the star, it tells you to "blow into the microphone to see the special effects." Actually, you can make any sound into the microphone, and it'll do one of two funny things to the picture: "warp" it or add bubbles to it. Not much variety, but you get the idea of what the microphone could be capable of in other games.

-Stylus

If you have trouble with accuracy of the touch screen (it's great for most games), you can now use a stylus, which is easily stored in the back of the device

-Shape/Size

It's slightly larger overall than the original Mobigo. I worried that the old case wouldn't fit, but it does... barely. The touch screens themselves are the same size, and so are the control buttons.

-Fixed the Downloads Issue!

This is a great one-one of the few negatives about the original Mobigo was that it didn't save your downloaded games onto the device. Every time you turned off the device and turned it back on, any games you downloaded from the Vtech site would need to be re-downloaded, and I think you could do only three at a time. Now, awesomely, there's actual storage in the Mobigo. Sufficient storage. Once I downloaded the required software (not hard-took two tries to get my device to work with it, but was fine after that), it provided me with free access to every game I'd ever downloaded on the original Mobigo, plus gave me three credits for free games. I happily discovered that I could fit all of them on the Mobigo 2 and that they'd stay there until I wanted to erase them! As of now, I have 15 downloaded games on the device and it's less than half-full.

THE NEGATIVES

-The downloadable games are really short and simple-nothing exciting, and few are in the older children range.

-The "number keys" are really just the top letter keys, and the number placement is confusing. For instance, when you want to type the number 2, you're supposed to type the letter W. However, the number is situated right in the middle of the letters Q and W, so depending on your perspective, you might think you were supposed to type Q.

-These great new features don't yet have great new software to go with them... I'm sure Vtech will soon release software that takes advantage of the motion sensor and microphone, but in my search of Amazon and Vtech's sites, I don't yet see a single game that has these added features. Therefore, if you don't yet have a Mobigo at all, clearly you should get this new version-Vtech has even been kind enough to price it the same as they priced the original. However, if you have the original and want to know if it's worth it to upgrade, I'd wait until there were at least a couple of games available to support the new features, or else you're really spending the additional money just for the few built-in games and the photo viewer.

-Touch screen is very good, but not perfect. I got frustrated a few times when the device instructed me to "use the arrows" to do something, and then I did hit an arrow, and it repeated the same instruction twice more before I got it to recognize that I was already hitting the arrow. Still, doesn't happen often.

MY RECOMMENDATION

Even despite these drawbacks, I'm still considering this a 5-star product. We've had most of the major electronic devices for kids in the preschool-to-1st grade range, and this one has been our favorite. It's been reliable, can withstand drops, has a good line of worthwhile educational software (particularly for 3-5-year-olds) and rarely gets annoying to listen to for Mommy in the front seat. If you've never had a Mobigo, I highly recommend this one, and if you already have one, I *will* highly recommend it as soon as there are a couple of pieces of software that take advantage of the new features!

I am sad to say I am starting to sour on Vtech products. This past December I purchased two mobigos (the 1st version) for my 3 year old twin boys. By the end of January one of the mobigos sound did not work at all and by March both began freezing in the middle of games and scrambling the screens. Very frustrating for 3 year olds. This summer when I saw the Mobigo 2 coming out I decided to try them again mostly because I did not want to have to buy all new games if I switched to the competitive brand. I pre-ordered 2 of the mobigos 2 for both my boys and they arrived the beginning of July.

The mobigo 2 is def. a step up from the first and my boys LOVED all the changes especially the new "pen" with it. I also loved that all the downloaded games could go right on the device and didn't have to be loaded to the cartridge. So the toy itself is very entertaining and my boys love it. The only problem is this didn't last yet again.

It is not the beginning of September and we have had problems again. One of the mobigos began freezing again and a few days later while my son was routinely opening up to the keyboard the lever snapped causing the screen to tilt up so you cant see it while using the keyboard. You could hear the screw that is supposed to hold it rattling inside. But the unit still worked until a day later. Now today the whole unit will not even turn on. I have tried changing batteries several times and nothing. Same thing with screen freezing on both versions. A battery change will not work to fix the problem.

Also it is not due to poor care on our part which is what one might assume with 3 year old twin boys. We have cases for both and I take them out myself and make sure they are put back. I also supervise them while they are using them so this isn't a case of them being dropped or mishandled. The damages are caused by normal, routine use. For our house hold this is a max of 30 min a day.

Bottom line the product is great for AS LONG AS IT LASTS but in my experience that is not that long with either version. I hoped the Mobigo 2 would last longer but it did not.

Best Deals for VTech MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System - Orange

My son is 3.5 and still not potty trained. He's mentally ready for preschool but since he refuses to pee on a toilet, he can't go to school yet. I decided to home school him this year. One of the tools I'm using is the VTech MobiGo 2. Each morning I read a book to Little Man and then we do worksheets for a letter, number, tracing, coloring, cutting and pasting, etc. After we finish our paperwork he gets to spend 30 minutes playing on his MobiGo. I love that the games on MobiGo are educational. There's a shooting gallery game which uses the keyboard and in order to shoot the target you have to press the correct letter on the keyboard. The easy level pretty much follows the keyboard along the QWERTY keys so that the kids learn where to find them. The VTech MobiGo2 comes loaded with Hamster Highway, Shooting Gallery, Art Master and Photos. It also comes with 3 free downloads that you can choose any of their games that are available for download. I like that they don't limit you to a small number of games or books. Right now all downloadable games are $2.99 each. That's a steal! The have downloadable e-books coming soon, as well.

Not only is this a great tool to help reinforce my home school efforts, it gives Little Man something to do on the go when his big brother and sister are playing their DS's. The VTech MobiGo 2 retails for $59.99. Not bad for a game system and 5 games!

All of the kids have enjoyed the MobiGo, but Little Man uses it the most. The few downsides I've noticed are:

It is rechargeable, with rechargeable batteries if you supply them and buy the separate power cord. Otherwise you're using batteries like water.

You can only make one account on the system so if you have multiple kids you can only track the progress of one. The others can sign on as a guest.

There's no way to tether the stylus and with my children that's a disaster waiting to happen.

Overall we are very pleased with the VTech MobiGo 2 and would recommend it to anyone.I would suggest this as something for kids aged 3-7.

I have received VTech MobiGo 2 to facilitate my review.

Honest reviews on VTech MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System - Orange

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program The Vtech MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System, is a great gaming/learning system for young children. It's well built and durable to withstand even the most energetic of children. MobiGo 2 Touch comes with four different playable modes including the touchscreen, motion sensor, microphone for voice recognition & the Qwerty keyboard. As for game choices you can purchase the Mobigo cartridges for this system and you can download a ton of different learning applications from the VTech Learning Lodge. All of the Mobigo games range in age and difficulty mostly from ages 3-8. My 5yr old daughter loves her mobigo and plays it every chance she gets, and I don't mind because I know that while she may be playing video games, she's also learning to read, spell, write, math and more. I would definitely recommend the mobigo2 for anyone with young children!

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for VTech MobiGo 2 Touch Learning System - Orange

For the most part we found the MobiGo2 to be a great gaming system for young children. Cheaper then many of the gaming systems out there and more appropriate for young hands. We love the design of the MobiGo2 and how easy it is to hold. The pop up screen with keyboard underneath is a big hit because it made my daughter feel like she had her own computer.

There are a few games included with the system and you have the option of downloading games or purchasing cartridges. I like having both of these options because downloading is instant if you need something quick, but the cartridges are nice so you don't run out of room on the MobiGo2. My daughter loved to browse the games on line but of course wanted them all.

I thought it is pretty cool to have different ways to use the system such as motion (like driving a car), touch screen (like an iPhone), and talking to characters. The screen is bright and of decent quality for the price. It comes with a installation disc so you can keep track of your downloads and progress.

This is where I took away a star. We were unable to get any progress log to load. I don't know if my daughter didn't play enough or it just isn't working I'm not given enough information to tell. I've revisited the manual, googled, looked on forums and gave up. I can't figure out how to see my daughters progress which had me very frustrated.

Though this product is for 3-8 year olds we felt at 6 1/2 the product is a little young for my daughter. It would have been great to have it when she was 3 and use it as she grows but starting at her age she just feels it is a little simple. She loves to learn but gets bored with the games she has. Maybe purchasing some cartridge games geared at 6-8 might help that.

Overall the product is great quality, had different ways to use it, versatile as you can take it anywhere you go, has tons of game options (if you want to pay for them). At the price it is a good deal. I just wish I could get the progress log to work.

This is an interesting, audience-specific Magnetic Poetry word collection. Highly social college kids and college-bound kids might find this an amusing addition to their rooms / apartments, study areas, common areas,....and perhaps parties, party games? LOL :) The kit does allow for some fun with phrasing and sentences related to college life and experience.

For an idea of the word choices in this kit, please see the following list:

sorority, frat, brother, fight, gigantic, grade, athlete, fail, borrow, loud, brain, friend, skip, major, education, nap, exam, graduate, scholarship, computer, philosophy, library, study, dumb, coffee, science, easy, late, paper, break, book, loan, dorm, research, 101, money, pizza, cram, tuition, professor, semester, write, class, art, dance, party, learn, understand. // Words that some people might find objectionable: tequila, inhale, weed, bust, naked, beer, drunk, hottie, crib, shot, blow, smoke, jock. These words can be removed though. // The kit contains about 240 total words and word bits.

Not my favorite word kit. There are better ones in my opinion. :) However, for the target audience, perhaps this is a clever product with just enough attitude to please.

The College Magnetic Poetry Kit was a neat and fun little way to give some of the students that I work with an opportunity to construct hilariously silly sentences. I certainly didn't want to condone any support for such words as "weed" and "smoke", so I simply took those words out before I put them up. The words can definitely be manipulated and moved to create very funny phrases. It's a great and cheap little gift for anyone.

I am collecting all the word magnets sets that I think are appropriate for teaching Spanish speakers more vocabulary words. These will do well in that endeavor. They came in a very timely manner which helps a lot as well.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program First of all, my twin girls love horses so much we even had one of their last birthday parties at a local horse stable. Needless to say then, they loved this toy! They love the fact that they were able to write the horses names in the white boxes over each stall. This made the toy seem even more personal and made them more excited about it. I would certainly recommend it if you have a little horse lover in the family.

Both my son and daughter love this horse stable. It's nice that each horse is different and there is a short description about each type of horse. They each love pretending the horses are racing, and they thought it was really neat that they got to name the horses and put stickers with the names on the stable. And it was fun for me to hear all of the cute, creative names they came up with!

My uncle bought me the Dizzy Disc when I was about 5 and now 11 years later, I still love to spin! But I have to admit that I have become kind of addicted. My advice would be not to use the Dizzy Disc for prolong amounts of time and to cover your feet when using because serious bruising can occur due to the grooves on the Disc. I can spin for hours now and I almost wish that my parents had taken it away from me way back when. Maybe its just me but I spin with my Ipod in I feel less stressed. Anyhow, I love my Dizzy Disc and will keep it forever!

My autistic son, who is 5, was constantly craving to spin. We got him this toy at a on line store, Pocket full of therapy, p f o t dot c o m and has the cheapest price for it includding shipping. So far he has overcome that need and can last not too long, which is a good thing for him.

We bought the Dizzy Disc for my son with PDD and sensory issues. He loves to be in motion, and I thought this would be a good pick. Both of my kids love this, and when we had a playdate at our house with five other kids, they were lined up to take a turn spinning. The Dizzy Disc is rated for users up to 150 pounds, so even I took a turn. It's a blast to use, and you can really get moving.

Most people's experience with a spinning toy is with the Sit 'n' Spin, which was a decent toy back in the '70s when I was a kid. Today's Sit 'n' Spins are very cheaply made, and only spin for the smallest kids. Even then, the kids don't really get moving very well. This product is very sturdy, with integrated ball bearings, and it goes fast.

The seating surface is big enough for kids and smaller adults to sit, lie on their bellies, kneel, or even stand (with a spotter you could seriously kill yourself without one). The Disc also has an adjuster to change the angle of the platform for additional challenge.

This is a great pick for any kids, but especially appealing for those with autism spectrum disorders or sensory processing disorder. This was well worth the price, and will be a keeper in our house.

Honest reviews on DIZZY DISC

This is a really great toy. It will be used forever, is well made, and even the adults like it. Kids love to get dizzy, and the way it tilts and can change makes them go back for more and more. We had one for a lot of years, and it never had to be put away for 6 months (like most of our other toys) so that the kids would want it again. Is so easy...no pieces to clean up. Handle makes it simple to carry and put back in the closet.

Use this when we take a break from homework assignments. I just say let's go spin for a minute! Neighborhood kids love it too......sturdy for 5 yrs to 25! My SPD kid loves it, as he never gets dizzy. It's fun to see him be able to spin longer than the other kids who get dizzy fast. He loves to be the WINNER!
