This math kit is a parent initiated activity and can be fun. I introduced to it to my 2nd grader and we played for an hour.

The workbook is great but again needs parent involvement. So if you can't spend the time it is not a good idea.

The child wraps a string around the numbered plastic strip. The equation is on one side and the answer is on the back. As the string goes around the child has a chance to think about the answer then find it and match it correctly. It helps to have at least two at a time doing this, then it's a completion and a contest. Use it with a child that needs a hands-on approach to learning. But remember you need to be involved.

I got these for my 6 yr old. He loves these and couldn't put them down the first day they arrived. He loves the timed exercises and coloring in the chart for successful practices. The lessons in the book are pretty basic, but over all this is a great tool for mastering these important facts. We love it!!

I bought this for my musician husband for Christmas. He can play any instrument on first try...but..I decided not to give this to him and returned it. There's nothing wrong with the product. Its well made and has a great sound...but...you really gotta love a wooden paneled cup with a ball in the center that has to be jiggled around to pay that much for it. I think I'll stick with string instruments-

I ordered this for my 3 yr old for Christmas. It was projected that it might not make it time for Christmas, but it arrived in plenty of time. This toy has 4 different games, in 2 languages, so there's actually 8 options. Each game builds on what they learn from the previous level, so my daughter won't outgrow this toy for at least a couple years. Great way to teach or learn basic spanish with your kids.

These are great in the bath. They float, stick and are great for my 8 mo old to suck on (his favorite hobby these days). My only complaint is that there is only 1 of each letter (I should have paid closer attention to the number of pieces when ordering). Not a huge deal, but we can't spell my son's name out, (we need 2 R's). Oh well, they do their job otherwise.

I purchased these about a month ago for my 26 month old son. He has loved them from the first time he played with them in the bathtub and has played with them every night in the tub since then. He loves putting all the letters and numbers all around the tub. They stick well to both the tile and the tub. I was also very happy with the size. They are large enough for him to handle easily. I also like that they are solid colors which makes it easier to identify the shape of each letter. My only minor complaint is that the "M" and "W" look very similar and neither letter is the appropriate shape for a learning toddler. Despite the "M" and "W" I am still very happy with the product and have already purchased another set for a gift because my son loves them so much.

Seriously, I've never owned a real human skull besides the one I'm currently using to store my awesome brain in right now, but this is something with more normal dimensions and although it is imperceptibly gender neutral, it is a great reference tool when working from my drafting table.

Also, it freaks out the very few people that I actually invite into my office area. It would be spooky anywhere but in my work space.

I bought these wands as part of a science demonstration on magnetism, and let each of the classroom kids take one home. I loved the loop that you could tie a string to so they can be kept with the project that you use them with. We used them with pipe cleaners cut up in the bottom of a 2 liter bottle and made a game of trying to pick up a certain number of pieces of pipe cleaner. The kids loved this game.

I'm using these cards with my 3 1/2 year old who is starting to learn to read. There are 54 cards, mostly 3-7 letter common words on the front and back, 108 words total. The package states that sight words don't follow phonics rules, but some of these words are arguably phonetic in pronunciation. Still they're good to review often as they're very common words and he should be able to pick up on them quickly when reading a book.

I'm also using them to help build sentences. Since he can't quite write the letters/words yet, the cards are laid out in a line to form a short sentence that he can sound out or pick up from memory. I also have a tabletop pocket chart from Smethport that they can fit into. These are used in addition to the level A and B set.

I got this set for my son (as well as levels A and B) right before my son started kindergarten. It was nice to let him practice some of the easier sight words, and it really helped him as he started school. These flash cards are great as well, because they taught him words that are not pronounced phonetically as well as words that he began to see a lot as he started to read books. He enjoyed the "flash card" system, and even asked to work with them. Now, as he is in second grade, I still use the cards. This time, though, I use the cards to help him with spelling these words. He is an auditory learner and tends to try to write all words phonetically. By showing him these cards, I can let him see what the different words look like--and how they are not spelled as they are heard. My second son is starting kindergarten, and we have started to use the flash cards with him. I feel that we have gotten years of use out of these cards, especially since they are so durable. I know that they print words on both sides of the card to make the package less bulky, but I do wish , as another reviewer pointed out, that the words were only printed on one side so that I could put them in piles of "what my child knows" and "what my child doesn't know." Other than that, it is a wonderful educational product.

I am a big fan of Pockets of Learning, and thought this was a nice addition to our collection. My only complaint is the book does not seem as sturdy as other Pockets of Learning cloth books, also the pages are not the full length of the book as the picture shows, they are smaller, and the zipper tends to get stuck Overall, it's still a wonderful book and very well thought out.

Review of Summit Mini Pop Up Habitat

We bought this for our grandson who likes to catch bugs (8yo). It is awesome that it collapses to fit in his small pack until ready for use. Then while we're walking on the watch for grasshoppers (or whatever) it is very comfortable clipped on a belt (or pack) loop because it is light and not too big. I ended up wearing it b/c he was so actively trying to catch bugs while we were walking. But it was no burden to be the bearer.

He has been using it as a stand alone home bug cage since our outings. We haven't done a lot of collapsing and expanding of it, so I can't promise how durable it is over active use...but for the price it's the best thing I've seen, and I've been through 2 sons and 2 grandsons. I will say that he's none too gentle with it because he gets extremely excited (urgent) with getting them in to the cage before they get away, while not letting the other ones out in the process.

When I take it out again, I wouldn't mind replacing the carabeener(sp?) because the one supplied is a little on the cheap side which doesn't do justice to the nice "habitat" cage...but the carabeener does work so don't let that stop you.

My 6-year-old loves this. We got the net to go with it, so he could catch lightning bugs, then keep them for a couple hours in this. He has caught all sorts of things to inspect in this thing, and it has help up really well. I like that it has velcro tabs to 'pop' it down for storage. A must have for all children, in my opinion.
