Its cheap , fairly simple and entertaining for kids and young adults such as myself. The directions were written in japanese but it was easy to figure out with the pictures. The package consist of a speaker , battery pack , assortment of knobs and the circuit board ready to attach the speaker and battery pack to. Nothing has to be soldered it all clicks together and the knobs attach with a small eye glasses style screwdriver. Its not a quality radio but it kept me busy for a half an hour and entertained for a few hours after and now I have an extra radio for emergencies.

The device went together well. The box it came in doubles as an 'enclosure' for the finished product (neat!). Picks up radio stations very well in our area and sounds is very nice considering no more than what it was intended for. Our kids love it and like to show it off to their friends but more importantly, it gets used daily. Please note, while this can be a very educational product, the instructions were in like Japanese or something -no one in our family speaks or reads Japanese. This means, aside from a few photos in the directions provided, most was completely useless. This causes the "educational value" to be only equal to that parent or whom ever was helping their child assemble the device. OF course there is at least some educational value in the assembly, alone but would have been just awesome if it had English directions and information included! Durability? Well, it is encased in cardboard what can I say. But it is holding up very well, considering. Overall, we love it because the kids love. Had fun putting it together, daughter learned a few things and she really enjoys "what she created" -that speaks for itself. Even though it has the shortfalls in documentation, still highly recommended.

I purchased this for my five month old daughter and she really likes it! The purse rattles and the handle serves as a teether too! The purse has a velcro closure which is good when all of the contents are inside. It comes with a lipstick that is a rattle which is really cute, although the handle is a little difficult to grasp. The money is soft material and crinkles and has a plastic coin attached. The little makeup compact is a ladybug with a mirror. Lastly, there are keys, but they are one solid piece and I wish they were seperate and jangly. Overall, it is an adorable first purse. I had to decide between this one and the Laugh and Learn Purse Fisher Price Laugh & Learn My Pretty Learning Purse and I chose this one because she already has so many toys that sing and count. This is just simple and sweet.

While in Dallas visiting our new 41/2 month old niece I never seen a baby play with a toy so much. She absolutely loved this toy. She was just starting to crawl and there were plenty of toys but she loved the money and the lipstick. They were so easy for her to grab and shake and rattle. Had a really fun time with this race car. The only problem is the metal bar the holds the wheels on bent after a few times. I think the reason it bent was because I used my air compressor to make it work. I should have used a foot pump, but that would be no fun. Also seems to have a hard time rolling on cement or any pavement. Either way, this thing is really fun.

The photo is of a red/yellow one. The one we got was a teal with yellow. I'm glad we got the teal one it's exactly the same as the one we use in music class. It's a fun toy. Teaches coordination skills to make the clacking noise. Great for 1year+. The bright colors are attractive. It also looks and feels heavy duty so it's not something he'll break easily which is key since he's broken a lot.

A little direction of use would be nice on the outside of the package. My husband and I worked for a while to make some sounds with the Clatterpillar and with not much luck. It doesn't do a lot. It's headed to my daughter's preschool, so I hope the kids are more coordinated than we are.

Touch Reading Pen English-Chinese with 8 books - Beginner Package Reviews

I have been looking for some interesting Chinese materials for my 7-year old daughter. A friend of mine recommended the touch reading pen to me recently. As there are so many books in their E-Read book collection, I don't know what to choose. Then I saw the beginner package. It includes a touch reading pen and 8 books. The books range from workbooks of Chinese Pinyin, characters, math, to fairy tale stories, Chinese dialogues in Disney's Scenes and etc. They are a good combination of working materials and fun readings. My daughter loves the Pen very much. Now she is touching and reading the Chinese books whenever she has time. She has made very good use of the Pen when she is in the car. She is learning Pinyin one by one in the workbook and get chance to practice them in the fairy tale stories (with Pinyin and characters). The Disney book is interesting. It shows only name of objects in Chinese and English (e.g., sunglass). Yet when you touch the pages, there's conversation in both Chinese and English. My daughter loves listening to them as they are from her favorite/familiar characters. I plan to buy the full set of fairy tale stories and Disney books when she finishes these two.

Currently a lot of Chinese books are accompanied with CD/DVD. As I don't want my daughter to play with a computer or watch too much TV/CD/DVD, I am pretty hesitant to buy them. Now I am very happy with the Pen. It serves the multimedia functions, helping sound out Chinese Pinyin/characters very clearly and improving my daughter's pronunciation and intonations. Most importantly, it develops her love for Chinese learning. On the other hand, I don't need worry about her attaching too much to TV or computer.

Would recommend this set to any beginning Chinese learners!

I bought Touch Reading Pen and some E-read books for my kids late last year, thought they might like it, didn't expect this Touch Reading Pen and books become one of my kids' most liked Christmas presents.

About this "toy", what's important to my kids:

it's been 3 months since they got it and they haven't get sick of these "toys". They have learned a lot of Chinese words from these books in a effectless way simply because they are interested in it.

the reason I give 4 star(instead of 5 star) to "how much fun is this toy" is, sometimes it takes a few seconds longer before the Pen reads a word(after it is pointed at certain word). Because of this reason kids can lose their patient while they eagerly waiting to hear "how it read in Chinese".

About this product, what's good to me as a parent:

while kids "playing" with these toys, they learn Chinese in effectively. I give a 5 star to its "educational value" for sure;

it works as described always very important to a buyer;

I am a little unsure how to rate "durable" of this product, we've have them for 3 months they still work as new. I give it 5 stars, don't want to make a bad assumption on a good product, because it's so worth to buy.

Highly recommond this product to parents who try to encourage kids learn Chinese.

My son attends a Mandarin Dual Language Immersion elementary school, and as I don't speak Mandarin Chinese nor read Simplified Chinese, I thought this would help him to learn to read and build up his vocabulary, similar to the Leap Frog Tag. My younger preschooler actually enjoys it much more, as she's much more into reading than her older brother. She's already dropped it a few times and it's holding up very well.

Educationally, it does work very similarly to the Leap Frog Tag system, as you touch the pen to the words in the books.

The downsides are that the pen does not function as well as the Leap Frog Tag. You really have to touch the pen to the book straight on for it to sense the book. If you are crooked or off a little, then it doesn't read anything. Also, the default volume is really loud, so I'm constantly touching the volume control to turn it down. Also, the instructions are in Chinese and in typical very poorly translated English and make very little sense to me, so I'm sure I'm missing a lot in what the Touch Pen can do. I think I'm gonna have to bring in the instructions to my son's Chinese teacher to read and explain to me what I'm missing.

I wish the books that came with the package were more story books instead of game-ish and just phrases of stories; I did purchase the Brown Bear series of books, but they are too easy for my first grader son as he already knows most of the words and can figure out the rest from context. My preschooler enjoys them though.

But the absolutely biggest problem is that my order arrived in a taped up box and with the contents unwrapped, like this was a previously purchased or used item. I addressed this with the seller and with Amazon. Amazon responded promptly by refunding me a portion of my sale. The seller never responded.

The positive is you can learn the sound of the pin yin which some of the Chinese school in my local area can't really teach accurately. This is more of a supplement to his learning. I thought the pin yin could have been more. When they read some of the sentences, it could be slower but it was a little too fast to pick up. They did pronounce the pinyin good!!!

I am giving a baby shower with a retro theme and have purchased different toys for decor (& cannot rate how much frun, durable, etc). These music boxes are very cute and the colors vibrant; I'm very happy with the music box itself. What I was displeased with is the way they are marketed with "Tin Music BoxeS (plural) Toy" & received only one when the picture shows three boxes and plural for boxes. Had I realized they were not sold in sets of three, I would not have purchased one for the price.

My 5 year old son got this for christmas 2010. Not only was he excited because it's sponge bob, but it's so educational for him! It's great for car rides and to take when we know we're going to have to wait for an appointment somewhere. We also have a 1 year old and she will throw this when you tell her she can't have it.....so i can rate the durability of this too....there is not a scratch on it! I would recommend the recharging station. You'll save a lot of $ in the long run.

When we first got this toy, my daughter was 8 months old. She figured out how to use it right away and played with it all the time. It's been two months and the toy is broken. The sounds that play do not correspond to the activity taking place. For example, when she pops a door open it will say "Good Bye" and when she pops open the circle it will say "rectangle". I no longer have the receipt for this toy, so I doubt I could get a refund. I'm really disappointed because she loved this toy at first. She's not that interested in it now that I keep the volume turned off.

My daughter has played with this toy since she was 7 months old. She is now 12 months and loves to hear the characters speak and sing. It is not too loud, which can be a huge problem with electronic toys, and has stood the test of a 3 year old.

I bought this manipulative set to use with my young daughter who was so bored at school that she was learning very little. These penguins are so fun she could not resist them. The penguins are about 2 inches tall and are made of a pleasant-to-the-touch vinyl type of material. There are ten colors, and ten penguins of each color = 100 penguins. After we've done math with the penguins, we practice counting and colors in Spanish. If you are interested in the coloring strip pictured with the listing, you should know that they provide you with one original as part of the instruction book, and you copy it to make the strips yourself. We are not using the coloring strips, ourselves.)

Be creative and come up with new ideas about color patterns and ways to count and do math, and this toy/learning resource will be wonderful. If you're expecting it to provide detailed game ideas and activities with rules, it doesn't. It's made of good quality material and will last. The penguins are cute, and colors vivid (brown looks exactly like chocolate!), but other than that, there are 100 identical shaped penguins and 10 bars to put them on, which semi hook together. My toddlers girls had the penguins on the ends of their fingers like finger puppets and the boy created an "army" of them lined up on his glacier bars. We each had a pile and traded with each other according to color.

I am a baby-holic and have expensive taste. I received this book as a gift and LOVE it. I have been reading it to my baby since he was four months (he's now seven) and it is by far his favorite book. He loved looking at the interactive images during tummy time, it was the only thing I could do to stop him from crying on his stomach. Now that he's moving, I use it to lure him to crawl and it works wonders. I have other soft books but this one has more crinkly paper which works well. I have even read it to a 3 year old toddler and he can't stop reciting the words. This is definitely my next baby shower gift!!!

This is a great book for infants and toddlers. It is soft and has several flaps to lift, under which baby is hididng. The flaps have different textures and/or make different noises. It is also very colorful with simple text that teaches different prepositions: udner, behind, it, etc. Under the last flap is a mirror in which your baby can see himself. I washed mine and let it air dry and it held up well.

Ok, so who doesn't hand their kids their phone to keep them from fussing when you are waiting in line, having an important conversation, or stuck on the bus, train, etc? I live in NYC and I have over an hour commute each way with my kids to their classes. So, I've been desperate to find things to keep them occupied on this commute. Before I got this case, I had my phone in a toddler proof case that worked fine. However, in the past, when I handed my kids my phone to entertain them, after a few minutes of scrolling through the camera roll on my iphone they were usually bored with the phone and handed it right back to me (or threw it on the floor, depending on their mood). So, I decided to give this Leapfrog camera case a go.

The way that you use this case is that you download the iTunes Leapfrog creativity app onto your phone. The app is free but you need this camera case to fully utilize the app. Then you pop your iphone or ipod into the case. The great thing about the case is that kids can't access anything else on your phone but this app when your phone is in this case. So, you don't need to fear that they will be sending your boss an email of gibberish or friending random people on your phone's facebook account as they use your phone. Instead, with the creativity case, kids are locked into the Leapfrog creativity app which has six modes for them to choose from. With the app they can do things like take photos, play matching type games, add graphics to their photos to make silly faces, or do photo missions to create albums of their photos.

Overall, the case is very sturdy. My kids drop it constantly and it keeps my iphone safe. The only downside to this case is that whenever I put my phone in and out of the Leapfrog case, I then have to take it out or put it back in my other toddler proof case, that I typically use. Also, when my kids have had the phone in this case I have missed some important texts and notifications. So, keep in mind that you can't just quickly grab the phone from your kids in this Leapfrog case and respond to texts, etc. Also, if you are out in public, you have to make sure that your kids don't drop or leave this case anywhere because if so, you also lose your expensive iphone.

Nevertheless, the pros of this Leapfrog creativity case certainly outweigh any negatives. Unlike before when my iphone would only hold their interest for a few minutes, now with the creativity case/app where they can take and edit photos or play games my kids will play with my phone for a much longer time. All in all, my kids think it is so cool to have their own camera type toy and I think the bright colors of this case and child friendly design and features continue keep my kids engaged.

The Creativity Camera is the perfect first camera for toddlers of a new generation. All kids love using their phones and iPads to capture special moments, but I have an iPad with a cracked screen that proves little ones may need a little extra support in this area.
