Review of Skip Hop Giraffe Safari Twist and Smile Toy, Crocodile
this is a great little toy – perfect for little hands!
the tail, middle and head of this alligator twist, making a cool clicking noise. my baby loves it. and i love that it'll grow with her, too. to start, it's just really cute – with lots of different textured fabrics and little tabs along the alligator's spine. and as her fine motor skills develop she'll be able to twist it herself, too. it's a sweet baby toy but it doesn't feel as baby-ish as others that they outgrow so quickly do. i think this one will be in rotation for a long time!
this would also make a really adorable gender-neutral baby gift! i always love having a few good go-to ideas to get for showers... this is a great option!

Gund Fun Color Counting is Fun Dino 8" Plush Review
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program It's soft and green, it rattles, and it's a dinosaur, a toy which even an infant can safely lie and play with because Gund makes it durable.
But this is a "teaching" toy: press the "start" note and it counts, lighting up as it goes, which will probably thrill even the smallest kid.
My take: a stuffed toy should be a "lovey", and not electronic. Parents and siblings teach babies to count to ten on their fingers and toes. That human interaction is essential, and children shouldn't be expecting electronics' stimulation every minute. Also, the sing-song counting will be very annoying to parents, very quickly.
It's no surprise that Gund has moved in this direction, since everyone wants to ensure their kids are ready for standardized tests at an early age. But, like many toys we've gotten and given over the years, this one is best played with as a stuffed toy, with the switch "off" or batteries removed.
My 18 month old and 4 year old weren't very interested.
I think it would be a great tool for teaching young children to begin counting. I don't know how well it will hold up since the materials seem a bit flimsy, but so far, so good.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program A cute 9 inch long dinosaur the does one thing when you press its button. It says "Hello, do you like to count. I do too" with a somewhat annoying voice, then it counts to 10. As it counts to ten it lights up the five spikes on its back one at a time (1 through 5), then turns them off one at a time (6 through 10). Then it roars and laughs. In the background it plays the tune to Ten Little Indians. That's it.My 18 month old and 4 year old weren't very interested.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program This is a really cute dinosaur stuffed animal, an enhanced stuffed animal which counts and sings--just one song. I imagine this could become a beloved comfort animal to a toddler, but I would hope it wouldn't since it can only be surface cleaned to keep it functional. No stuffed animal can endure extended child love and stay any level of clean. On the other hand, losing the song and lights wouldn't be a big devastation since they don't do much and "teach" something a kid will master soon enough. However, as a cuddly stuffed animal, it will be a hit with the right child. Bright colors, happy face, it's a charming toy.Honest reviews on Gund Fun Color Counting is Fun Dino 8" Plush
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My neice's 1 year old loves this dino. As soon as he saw it in the box he grabbed it to hug. (He is not generally into toys, so that was a great start.) He laughes when the Dino says "Roar" after counting to 10 and started saying "roar" along with it. The fins that light up with each number are a great idea. I had been afraid that the velcro holding the "voice box" might not be strong enough, but that has not been a problem at all. A GREAT gift for the toddler who is just starting to talk and has not learned how to count yet.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Gund Fun Color Counting is Fun Dino 8" Plush
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I originally got this for my grand daughter, but she's a bit young for it so my wife has introduced it to her preschool class and they love it. The bright, alternating lights are great for helping her students get into a rhyming process for counting, and some of the kids have taken to just carrying it around because of its "snuggle ness".I think it would be a great tool for teaching young children to begin counting. I don't know how well it will hold up since the materials seem a bit flimsy, but so far, so good.

Kidz Lab Dinosaur Excavation Dig Kits - Gift Pack set of 3 Review
Bought this for my 4 yr old son who loves dinos. Its the first thing he grabed from under the tree Christmas morning and I could not get him away from them until they were all excavated and assembled. The clay that they come in has been baked so he had to get one of his toy hammers to get to the bones, but for him this made much more fun. I bought six of these and plan to buy many more.

These are still the best dig kits I have found. My son also spends time playing with the 'fossils' after the fun part of digging.Best Deals for Kidz Lab Dinosaur Excavation Dig Kits - Gift Pack set of 3
I first saw these with a friend and decided to get some for my son. These are really wonderful toys. My son fell in love with them. I gave them to him over a long period of time, usually as a reward. Then he would spend a good part of the day excavating. My advice though is that they should only be excavated outside because they can be pretty dusty. The child should also wear an apron and goggles if available. What I also did from time to time was to show my 5 year old how to sprinkle a little water that kept the dust down but it made his task easier and so her finished faster. I am not sure whether the soil they are encrusted in is real soil and it is not indicated on the box so I preferred to put a bit of water in case it is some cheap chinese stuff which could cause ailment in my child if breathed in but otherwise the concept is really nice and quite educative.Thursday, October 2, 2014
Reproducible Little Books Alphabet Review
I loved the Reproducible Little Books Alphabet series. I seen them being used in an Early Childhood classroom and knew I had to find a way to create them. The kids LOVE the songs/books and I find them getting stuck in my head all the time! The kids request these songs more than any others they know!!! Great price and great way to learn letters and sounds!

I purchased this for my grand daughter Chloe, who is five years old. She loves it!! Reading is such an important skill to foster in our children. She loves the device. I had read her many books on my kindle and she wanted her own and this fits the bill. I do wish there was a larger selection of books available on this device, I have purchased nine for her so far, I do hope they expand the library available. I also bought the car chargers so she can read on her long trips to visit grandma!!A great gift and good value!

This is the first cartridge we bought to go with our daughter's v-reader. Our daughter is 4.5 years old, and she really enjoys the story and games. The games are definitely aimed at an older age group but she can do about 1/2 of them by herself and the rest are challenging enough to keep her interested.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for VTech - V.Reader Software - Mickey Mouse Clubhouse
My son is now 4 but has been playing Mickey since december (age 3) and this game along hs taught him how to use his fingers to trace shapes (in the game tracing around it makes the shape look like it is being welded out of a piece of metal) so now he is able to draw them with crayons and identify them and also can count change ALSO taught him left from right in the directions it was giving to trace around the shapes. I recommend this game to anyone.Friday, September 26, 2014

The cards are thinner than I would have liked. They are a peachy-orange color; white would be easier on the eyes. The content is very good. They come in a small folder/cover, but would be better if they had a box or envelope to keep them together.I bought these flash cards for my 2 year old son and he loves them. He now knows how to count simple rhythms and is learning the names of the piano keys.

I purchased this for my 2 years old's birthday. It was a hit with him and his 4 year old brother. It is a very educational toy... counts and teaches colors. It has different modes. One mode is more music/song and the other is more interactive learning. The song Elmo sings "Elmo's got 5 crayon's in a box..." is actually a cute, catchy song. Unlike many of my children's toys, I can handle listening to this one over and over again. Perfect toy for little hands and to pop in the diaper bag for errands.Best Deals for Playskool Sesame Street Steps To School Elmo's Count Along Crayons
My 2 year old got this for his Elmo-themed birthday. PERFECT to throw in the diaper bag to go to the Dr's office, or anywhere else I need him to sit still. We are currently going over basic colors, 1-10, alphabet, etc, and this toy covers the numbers and colors perfectly. What Elmo says, my son repeats enthusiastically, versus sometimes when Mommy is trying to get him to say it and all he can do is ask for chocolate milk. Lol. Elmo just gets kids excited, what can I say? This toy plays an adorable song sung by the famous Elmo himself when you press the yellow sun button, counts the crayons, says the numbers when you press the buttons, and says the color of the crayon that you press. Very cute toy, durable as well seeing as we have dropped it a few times and it still works and looks brand new. I'm even considering buying a couple of these toys to take to toddler birthday parties. AWESOME toy!Honest reviews on Playskool Sesame Street Steps To School Elmo's Count Along Crayons

Cheap Playskool Showcam 2-in-1 Digital Camera and Projector
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $59.99

My 3.5 year old son was so excited to get his very own camera "just like Mommies!". He is a budding photographer and even though at the young end of the suggested age range, quickly picked up on how to operate and use the Showcam. He gets such a kick out of the faces and effects. I really like the idea and ease of use, but feel the picture quality is really lacking. With today's technology, this camera should be able to produce at least an 800px wide image along with perform better indoors. Even in a room with 4 windows and sun shining in at every direction, 90% of the photos come out blurry or too dark to view. I realize this is just a "toy", but at the same time its very discouraging to the child user and they lose interest quickly when they are unable to to see anything but a dark blob for a person's face. Take the camera outside on a sunny day and it performs much better.
We previously used the VTech Kidizoom Digital Camera, which is about comparable to the Playskool one in terms of functionality (though our Vtech has a flash and the Playskool does not), picture quality (both are pretty 'awful' even with bright daylight) and durability (though I think the Vtech edges this one out).
I think the controls on the Playskool are much easier for a preschooler to operate (my son is 3.5yo), and the shutter 'speed' is quicker with this camera.
But the best thing you get for the $10-15 extra bucks you'll pay for the Playschool camera is the projector capability. My son loves it. The image is presented on a weird grid-like backdrop, but it's clear that it's the picture he took. He likes that immediate large-scale gratification.
I'm not bothered by the lack of a USB cable since most of us have millions floating around.
Overall, cute, not disappointing, but not amazing either. I wish someone would make a kids camera that had slightly better picture quality. Kids do manage to take some interesting photos from time to time, but the resolution on these cameras leaves MUCH to be desired.
-Easy to use and operate with
-able to project images directly is a great idea. My kid loves it!
Con
-image quality at night is bad
-LCD screen resolution on the camera is bad too

I was somewhat skeptical about the Playskool Showcam before it arrived. My boys, 4 and 6, have had other "child-friendly" cameras that were very disappointing. I can assure you, this camera will not disappoint! It is super easy to use and the shutter speed is fast, which is really important for kids who are on the move! The animation options and sound effects are super fun and entertaining. We have enjoyed several nights together of watching the projection slide show and laughing at all the pictures. Yesterday I shopped at the Barnes and Noble and found this Doug and Melissa truck. The price was $19.95, and today I see I could have bought it from Amazon for less than $15. Bummer! I think that this is going to be a big help to get my 3 and 1/2 year old grandson to learn his letters, spell his name, etc. He loves trucks. The paint on the blocks in just one day of play is chipping. Not good. Otherwise I like the way it can help a child learn the upper and lower case alphabet.

This alphabet truck is great keeps my 20 month old son occupied as he goes over the letters and the objects associated with each letter. I wish there was an easier storing mechanism (since you have to slide the numbers into the truck poles), but apart from that, its a great learning tool.Honest reviews on Melissa & Doug Alphabet Truck
This toy is just as you'd expect from Melissa and Doug. It's solid wood, very colorful and fun for my 20 month old to play with. The only feature that I dont like is that the wooden pegs that the blocks slide onto come out of the holes in the truck bed. I think its supposed to be like that, but its such a pain in the rear to pick them up all the time (they come out easily) that my babysitter actually tried gluing them into the truck bed :-) It didnt work, they still come out.Thursday, August 14, 2014

Cheap Fraction Formula Game
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $26.99
Sale Price: $23.51

The game play is kind of like blackjack. The only real choice is to go over or not. I must say that sometimes it is hard to tell who really won because it is so colse. The lowest common denomonator is 64 or the like to get a offical answer. Overall the game is fun and it makes fractions fun.
I have always been a fan of games in the classroom. They provide an excellent way to develop the understanding of concepts through inquiry... provided of course the games are unique, engaging, and mathematically sound in process and content. Fraction Formula definitely meets these three criteria.
The parts are big and bold, not easily lost, and are very dimensional, which is a huge asset when it comes to teaching. The instructions are easy to read and figure out, enough so that a group of children could grab the game and go. The playing of the game moves along fast enough to not bore children, but smooth enough to promote thoughtful interaction.
From a classroom perspective this a good game to have on the shelf.
Benefits:
Easy to understand.
Rules and scoring can be modified for different ages and abilities.
Pieces seem quite durable and easy to clean.
Color of pieces match the color of the corresponding fraction card.
Fast paced and can choose to play one or many rounds.
My six year old son even enjoyed playing with the game pieces on his own!
Drawbacks:
If you have pets you should know that the pieces attract pet hair!
Is not a complicated game and can become monotonous to some.
