My soon to turn three year old daughter loves this placemat. The first time she used it, she requested a fork and a knife, even though she didn't need them for her meal, because she wanted to set the table according to the mat. She enjoys eating her meals with a properly set table now!

The color rubs off on this placemat when wiped with a sponge. I do not recommend this product. I had to throw them away after a few weeks

I like the concept and design of this mat. We blue-taped it to our table so our toddler wouldn't move the mat and its contents. However, the ink is coming off after using the mat for less than a month. In fact, today I learned by accident that I can scratch the ink off with my fingernail. Also, the day after receiving the mat, I found it in a local retail store for $3.99. Overall verdict: eh.

I love the idea of this mat but it doesn't hold up to normal washing, the writing rubs off. If a placemat can't hold up to normal washing, it is pretty much useless. I haven't gotten rid of it because my son really does love setting all of his items where they are marked on the mat. The writing has rubbed off but you can still see where things go.

I was curious about what was on the other side of this mat (which I didn't know when I ordered it). It is basically the exact same thing without color, so the kids can color it to their own tastes.

It gives me a colored side for days when I don't have time to let the kids color it, and a blank side for the days I do have time for the kids to color it. This mat is helpful for many reasons.

1. for the younger kids, age 2 in my house, they always put their cups at the edge of the table and I'm always moving it so they won't knock it over. Now all I have to do is say "where does the cup go?" and they move it on their own. I can't say if it's become a habit yet, but I hope it does. For the older kids, it breaks the habit of keeping the cup close enough so that they can just lean over and drink from the straw, without picking up the cup. Have you ever seen adults lean over and drink from the straw of a cup still sitting on the table, it's a childish habit that they didn't grow out of, and they look childish. So here's a way to break it while their young enough to not look foolish.

2. Letting them color it makes them feel like it's "theirs" so they work harder to put things in the right place. I have even drawn special things on them for the kids.

3. These mats are durable, they are not flimsy or even close to bendable. They wipe off easy, and store easy too.

I am so sorry for waiting waaayyy too long before writing a review but we bought the "computer" base at a goodwill for 5 bucks and so I spent about 50 bucks on a whole bunch of books and I have to tell you, two of my kids went through them and I am getting ready to send the whole lot to goodwill with the hopes that another family will have fun with the set. Two thumbs up.

Apparently there was a wrong photo listed for this item when I ordered 2 of them a few weeks ago. Because of a gift giving/timing issue, I didn't have time for a return and just gave the gifts anyway. My feedback did reflect that I didn't receive the items pictured. Today I received a phone call from the company saying how sorry they are and that the problem with the wrong photo has been corrected. The caller said their company strives for excellent customer service and they would be fully refunding my purchase price. Wow!!! That was an "out of the blue" surprise & truly excellent customer service. Mistakes happen and when a seller goes out of their way to make it right, I say, "Hooray and gladly offer my sincere thanks." Amazing job in correcting an error and kudos for a job well done. Rockin' Riffs Guitar Review

This toy was attractive and interested a four year old for about ten minutes, but the sounds it made were not very loud and it was difficult to operate. The Rockin' Riffs Guitar needs a strap of some sort. A very young child cannot hold the thing and operate it at the same time.

My little boy has loved this toy since he was old enough to push button. He doesn't yet have the coordination to hold the guitar and mock play it, but he loves the music it plays and dances with it a lot! Lots of fun buttons to push and he already has his favorite songs. Very happy with this purchase.

My kids (4.5 and 3) have been picking up roly-polys all summer and I hadn't found a really good way to keep them. This toy is easy for the kids to open and even came with tips for keeping them. We have a release-bugs-at-night-so-they-can-go-back to-their-families rule at our house, but even if they were allowed in the house, bugs aren't getting out of this box.

i've never written a review before but i love this and so does my son. we take it everywhere we go. i often carry bug catching containers in my purse and this is perfect. not to mention its been dropped many times and hasn't broken. we recently left it at the pool and so i'm about to order two more before he notices. one for him and one for the other kids that love to look at this when we are out bug catching!

We ordered two of these kits for 7-9 year olds as a first rocketry project. We chose this particular kit for a few reasons: It uses a full size standard engine (A-C), not the half engines. It uses traditional building techniques utilizing white glue, not snap together plastic parts. The fin assembly is a single peice molded plastic. The rocket is completely white, allowing our scouts to decorate them with Sharpie Markers.

The kit may be a little hard for a large group of kids ages 7-9. Adults prebuilt the engine blocks and attached the launch lugs before giving them to the kids. The rest was right on the money.

The parts of this kit are high quality. Kudos to Estes.

It does what we need it to, but the hinge is poorly designed. Rather than hold open the mouth at a jaunty angle, as in the picture, the parallelogram collapses and the top teeth flop over to the side.

You can balance it ok for display (or a catalog photo) but for sure don't let anyone touch it!

It arrived nicely boxed. It was about a week late, but I was wondering what Japan Post was. The item came from Japan. I payed the expedited shipping and so it arrived only a few days later that I thought it should, but had I not it could easily have taken a month extra time. I got a soroban it is high quality and looking at how efficient it is made to work no wonder the Japanese beat the US's best with an adding machine. Anyway I am very happy with what I got, and how they shipped it.

I haven't had a microscope since I was 8-9 years old. When I overlooked a vault technician with a field scope for looking at intricate, small gear, I starting looking at scopes. Amscope has a huge collection of various scopes for every need. I bought a binocular stereo, and then this compound one. Both have provided me hours of entertainment.

The mechanical stage is a must, as well as a 3mp or higher camera. The pics are amazing! Prices are great, as the LED is cheaper than the halogen. But suits me just fine.

Both scopes came with plenty of accessories, lens, parts, covers. I wish they would do a better job of documentation and manuals, but their support provided links to good online manuals.

The software shipped with the cameras is very good, and has tons of photo manipulation features. Cameras even take video and time lapse captures.

Physically, the equipment seems sturdy and solid, no crappy plastic or cheap parts that would appear to break easily.

I am really having a blast using a laptop and the camera.

This set is excellent. There are a lot of components, a book with a bunch of projects, and an educational book about electronics, all of which are good. My kids are 9 and 12, and both of them like the set, especially the projects that involve sound activated alarms and such. They experiment, and they rig alarms to startle each other, and they gain a little intuition about how electricity works at the same time.

We did have a piece break; one of the snaps came apart on one of the more fun (read "noisy") components, but I contacted the company and they quickly sent replacement at no charge.

I highly recommend it.

Love this "toy" line.

Learn by doing AND teaches your young one to be organized, too!

The case will hold pieces from other Snap Circuits sets -the odd pieces can fit under the bottom tray.

This and the Green Snap Circuits sets are a perfect, comprehensive set to keep your child busy for eons.

(I have bought these sets for my 6.5 year old -he needs guidance, but can still work with and enjoy these sets)

My 8 years old boy was already modifying by himself an original project right after we finished the 3rd project we assembled together. Or I have a genius at home that I wasn't aware of or this product is really amazing or both!

Really a "must have". Forget about Lego!

The single "but" is the fact that the battery module doesn't have a replaceable fuse (has none). If, by mistake, the kid short-circuit some circuit, it could just "fry" the toy and make it useless. I wonder why the manufacturer did not add, for example, a small car-type fuse to the battery modules. They are cheap and easy to find.

I purchased the Snap Circuit kit for my mechanically inclined 7 year old. There are over 300 variations my son was immersed in building with this great kit. It has a nice variation of components, stores easily in the included carry case and is made well.

This has been a great item for my son to build and bring along to school on his "share" days.

I have found my son playing with this with friends and his cousins for extended periods of time. My nephew now has one (age 9) and loves it as well.

Highly recommended.

We seem to have acquired a set of Eric Carle Number Flash Cards. I'm not sure where we got the set, but our little boy had his third birthday in early October and that's probably the point of origin. In any case, I use them with him all the time. He now recognizes all the numbers, but has a bit of trouble with the 6 and 9 and with the 7 and 1. He'll get onto it. He can also count out the dots and I suspect, before long, will be able to read the writing. Smart kid! Plus he's gotten used to the animal drawings and can count the numbers of animals. I'm surprised how fast he picked all this up, and he seems to enjoy it as a little game. I'd have to say it's a well designed educational toy.

My 2nd graders love using this puzzle during math. I have multiple math puzzles in the classroom and they're always a big hit. The only change I wish Scholastic would make, would be to clearly label the 6 & 9 since they look exactly the same. I just took a Sharpie & wrote the number name to clarify the confusion with my students.

Physics Workshop Kit Review

My children and I used the Physics Workshop kit for our homeschool physics class this year. It was so much fun to learn physics by doing physics.

This kit is a suitable resource for high school students, as well. It includes many of the same types of experiments as are included in solid high school physics class, without the accompanying mathematics.

My son is 10 yrs old and in 4th grade, and he read the book and built the workshops 90% by himself, and then we completed the experiments together. My other child is in first grade, and while the text is difficult for her, she happily participated in the experiments and our discussion. We worked from the beginning through to the gears section, which we will have to complete later. We used it for one semester.

Our favorite experiments were the sail car (we provided wind with a hair dryer), the potato drop (because it was fun to play with food and Mom be OK with it), everything pulleys, and the catapult. We probably spent the most time with the catapult experiment, trying different combinations of angle and force. The record sheet for this experiment was helpful and significantly aided our understanding of the results.

Outside of class, the motor provided the best entertainment and was a toy that was built into cars and tanks. We tried to find rubber tires to put on it so that it could operate better on smooth surfaces, and this might be something to consider adding to a future kit.

The accompanying booklet which described the scientific principles is excellently written. I like how it begins from basic principles, includes historical trivia, and introduces the physicists who discovered the way things work. I like how the experiments are embeded in the text and fully discussed. Plus the layout highlights the most important points, is engaging with color and illustration, and periodically reminds the reader of previously covered material. Superb.
