Review of Orthoceras ~4" Fossil Black White Raised Over 400myo With Matrix

Its use may not have much grandeur but if the fact that you can own a 400+ million year old fossil tickles your curiosity then go ahead and order. This fossil is very clear and easy to tell exactly what you're looking at, the matrix around it (to me at least) provides a greater sense of authenticity, and if you're prone to scientific or philosophical meditation/introspection/whatever you want to call your day dreaming, contemplating this little fossil can help get you on some interesting topics. All in all if you're a nerd like me or you know a science loving nerd, this fossil is a great find.

Cheap Learning Resources Perfect Pointer

I purchased the Perfect Pointer after my five year old saw a similar one at her school book fair and came home bragging that Santa was going to bring her a 'hand on a stick' so she could be the teacher at home. She loves it. The hand lights up red, green, and blue at the touch of a button on the handle, and there are multiple sounds including clapping, laughing, yeah's and ooooooh's, etc, that keep her interest while she is 'teaching' her nine year old sister during playtime. The Learning Resources Hand Pointers, Set of 3 are interchangeable, and best of all, there's an On/Off/Volume knob to save battery power when it's not in use, and parent's sanity when it is in use. The plastic feels thick and construction quality seems high. With appropriate use I think it will last a long time. Of course, if you have boys you'll want to make sure they don't use it as a smackdown stick ;-)

It qualified for Prime shipping when I bought it, and I highly recommend it.

GARBAGE! Yes, the features of this product are great. My students loved the look and sounds of the pointer. HOWEVER, within one week of use (by me, the teacher) the arm (the red part) has broken from the base (blue part). I guess I could glue it, but the arm/ hand are simply too heavy for the thin plastic that holds them to the base unit. Save your money!

My grandson is an excellent student and he has an inquisitive mind. When he comes over he always wants to do something unique and have fun while learning. It is a tradition we started when he was very young. When Dr. Cool asked if I would review this Basic Geode Kit I was excited to have my grandson try it out on one of his next visits. You get six geodes, safety glasses, and activity book and an adventure guide.

My grandson actually enjoyed the books a lot but the real fun came when he got to smash the geodes. We did get a very unique geode in the kit and you can see it in the attached video. We couldn't bring ourselves to smash it and I think you will see why when you see it in the video.

Overall my grandson had a great time with this kit and he liked it a lot as a learning tool and just downright fun. It is a great activity to spend time with your children while they have fun and learn at the same time. We all had a good time watching him use this kit and breaking the geodes. You should have seen him chasing a larger round one trying to break it.

We recommend this to you as a very good educational tool and one that your children will enjoy.

Out of the pile of toys he got for Christmas, this was the first thing my 5yo wanted to open. We were out front by 8AM with a hammer and goggles breaking them open. He loved it! He hasn't really touched him since though so I'm not sure how much lasting power these have.

We've purchased geodes for cracking in the past and had fun opening them up. They were single geodes from a museum or mining attraction and came just as they were, a round rock.

Dr. Cool's Basic Geodes Science Kit takes that a few steps further. You get 6 geodes (and no one can tell what is inside until they are broken open), safety glasses a solid pair that stays on, and nicely designed printed materials describing how to crack open the geode and additional activities.

The geodes were a big hit with my 8 year old who, as is evident in the video, was able to crack them open on her own. She was thrilled with how they looked and has them proudly displayed in her room.

When you buy rough geodes, you have to understand that they are small, uncut, unpolished and not dyed. Many geodes you see on display at stores are cut, dyed, and polished so they look a lot different. My daughter was thrilled with what she got but an adult may be expecting more.

*** We just did some experiments with food dye and the geodes. The dye (although probably not as good as a natural dye or cloth dye) did add color to the rocks! It permeated the outer shell more so than the crystals but it gave some great variations and added excitement when looking at them.***

The activity is nice in that the element of surprise is great and you get to keep the broken geodes for display and study. An added benefit was that some of the geodes (exteriors) glowed under the black light we had from our Glow Rocks Science Kit.

They are hard to open...we used a hammer...and scored around the rock then split them.. some opened in half,, some in pieces. We had very nice crystals....all different...some are even rare.. states the book that comes w/the kit...nice touch. We had these for Christmas eve and it made fun for eveyone!!! They are still out on the coffee table so people can still check them out!

We got this for my 4 year old son for Christmas. He was so excited! We had to crack the crystals for him. He loves them, but we were a little disappointed that they were all the same kind and color. Only one of them was really hollow with crystals the others were more solid with crystals.

son loves the pen and is loving the leap pad, it was easy to attach the pen to the pad and was up and running in less tan 5 minutes. The only problem is, the pen is larger then the original and if it is not put in the book just right the book does not close.

This pen worked exactly as the original equipment did, and added a little extra fun to the Leap Pad. Open the battery compartment, plug it in, route the wire and the kids were playing again.

Rockin' Riffs Guitar Review

This toy was attractive and interested a four year old for about ten minutes, but the sounds it made were not very loud and it was difficult to operate. The Rockin' Riffs Guitar needs a strap of some sort. A very young child cannot hold the thing and operate it at the same time.

My little boy has loved this toy since he was old enough to push button. He doesn't yet have the coordination to hold the guitar and mock play it, but he loves the music it plays and dances with it a lot! Lots of fun buttons to push and he already has his favorite songs. Very happy with this purchase.

We bought this for our granddaughter's first birthday. She was delighted before the paper was completely off the toy, squealed with happiness and carried it around. When she realized she could also pull or push it, (she does walk already) she spent even more time playing with it. In fact, it became a travel toy as well as an at-home play thing for awhile. we came home later that day to find our dog had chewed off the antennas and there was some glue still there, not sure what kind of glue this is, but it can't be good if our dog went after it and it's the only area our daugther wanted to mess with on it...sounds addictive...

This is an overpriced but nice-looking toy. However, that is probably the only nice thing I can say about it. It is tiny, so some of the names are very hard to read. When I first saw it, what caught my attention immediately was they showed Kashmir as a land outside of India (marked in white). Kashmir is still an integral part of India. Then, again, this toy is made in China. So, no wonder it was shown that way! To the manufacturers of this toy: How would you morons feel if India start constructing globes showing Tibet is outside of China's border?

This doll is my daughter's most prized possession. She carries her everywhere, and the doll is soft, lightweight, and the perfect size for her at 1 year old. I got this doll for $5 at TJ Maxx so beware of paying too much! We ended up getting another one to have as a backup since my daughter cannot stand to be without her for any length of time. Bought on impulse ;-) I play numerous instrument as a hobby, wasnt sure what to expect with this thought what the heck...Yes the thing can be very loud and is capable of much. So far I have found the sounds of paper ripping / being crumbled, some one brushing their teeth while opening and closing their mouth, twigs snapping and a tambourine plus other typical' shaker sounds.

(My cat loves everything I play, except for this)

The Tupperware shape sorter is the best baby sorting toy out there. We live abroad now, but I picked up 4 of them to bring back to Europe.

The reasons, why it is so great: 1.) Form and function are above all other similar sorting toys. 2.) It is plastic and easy to lift and clean (A lot of parents prefer wood. But often the wood sorters are simply too heavy and bulky to be handled by little toddlers) 3.) It is formed like a facetted ball. That makes it easy for baby to turn it around and get seriously involved by looking for the right hole by themselves. 4.)The cut out holes and the shapes are very precise. Only *1* shape fits into *1* correct hole. Many other shape sorters even more expensive ones allow for wiggling forms into wrong holes 5.) It is a mental challenge because some of the shapes are really hard to discern 6.) It is no "loose pieces nuisance" like so many other toys because: when you are finished, all pieces are automatically back inside. 7.) Keeps baby busy for about 10 minutes

For ages 9 months and up.

In short: One of the best!!

I had one of these when I was a kid, so it was largely nostalgia that prompted me to buy one for my son; as it turns out though, it's a really nice toy. It's very nice and light, so if it gets thrown, it's not going to break anything; it has quite a few pieces for your child's shape sorting enjoyment; all the pieces store inside the ball when not being played with; when the ball is full of pieces it makes a satisfying rattling noise that my son really likes; it's visually appealing; it's quite durable. The only think I don't like about it, is that the halves of the ball are rather hard to pull apart, my kids (3.5 years and 18 months)both need help with this, which rather defeats the purpose of a play-alone toy. Still, once I dump out the pieces for them, they really like putting them all back again. One thing I especially like about this shape sorter is that it has several shapes, and a few of them are similar, which means that it's genuinely challenging, and even a young pre-schooler who is learning shapes, can have fun with this toy. It's not just for babies.

I gave it as a gift, and the first time we pulled it apart to get the shapes out, the cord that hooks the two sides together came off the hook, so for all intents and purposes it is broken, as we do not have a tool for reconnecting the cord. 40 Years ago when my son was a child every mom I knew had one of these for their kids. I never knew of one breaking before. I don't know if it is made differently now, or what. But, it used to be a great toy -40 years ago.

Isn't that the main factor here? She's 2 (August 5, 2009) and loves to play with it. She has me get the shapes out as she has trouble with that, so we can play with it together, which to me is a huge bonus. She's quickly learning her shapes and colors. The item seems quite durable. I paid a little bit more in buying it from a Tupperware guy, charging about $10 more than you can get it for on Amazon. But he's a nice guy, and I am supporting a local business, so, it's all good. Amazon is getting a lot of grief for its sales tax policies now, too! Let's resist the WalMarts, Sam's Clubs, and so on! Buy local. The Walton family is already obscenely wealthy.

The Electronic Playground reminds me very much of the type of electronics kit I had when I was young. I bought this for my son who is 6. While the instructions and details were a little above his head the kit was not. The projects are very straight forward and the the wiring guides are as easy as "connect the dots" (really!). My only minor complaint is that the frame is a bit flimsier (paper and plastic)then I would like.

My son and I did two projects in about 2 hours (two of the smaller ones) and I was able to use the kit to make some customizations (leverage the variable resistor add a light to the electronic buzzer etc.) and show him how circuits/components can be expanded and improved.

But beyond the ease of use the instruction booklet is really quite an excellent resource on basic electronics. For an older child the kit could/should provide a pretty good grounding (pardon the pun). The combination of straight forward instructions (so you get get things to work) and well written explanations (so you know why they work) is great.

I really can't wait to do more projects with my son or ....

maybe I'll just borrow it at night and do them myself.

I got this for my ten year old son who was interested in electricity and electronics. We have been going thru the lessons one at a time and he has been learning a lot. The book that comes with the toy is written so that he can understand the concepts of resistance and capacitance which is as far as we have gotten so far.

The toy is lightly built and would probably be reduced to junk outside of adult supervision but it is sturdy enough for him to use when supervised.

We bought this for a boy (age 10 1/2). He found it interesting for a while, but grew tired of it quickly. If you have a child who is really into tinkering with electronics, etc., then this might be a good choice. Otherwise, it might become boring too quickly. Once the user gets a feel for how each of the included circuits, resistors, etc. work, then there's not much left.

As a parent, I will add that the guidebook which comes with this kit is very informative. It provides a lot of easy-to-understand introductory information on circuits and similar topics. My son seemed interested while we did a few of the lessons and projects together during some "father/son" time. I think this type of information is good for developing brains, since it gives children a brand new topic to analyze and absorb; it also gives them a basic understanding our our "electrical world".

In summary, I have mixed feelings. If you have a child who shows a liking or interest in this type of toy (assembling, testing, doing small projects, taking apart his/her current electronics toys to see how they work, etc.), then this might be a good choice. But, I cannot pound the table and say this is a "great" toy. It's a "good" toy for the right child. If you think your child might be the "right" child, then I encourage you to give it a try!

I purchased this for my 8 yo son who had an interest in learning more about electronics. My elder 11 yo daughter was not interested in sharing her snap circuits set (she has the SC-500). We were not interested in making a large initial investment. While I really like the snap circuits and the easy directions and ease of assembling different projects / experiements; but I prefer the electronic playground for the instructional manual. The manual does a very good job of explaining what is going on, for examples, how do resisters work, what are their puposes. It questions the student to come up with real life uses of a resister such as in a light dimmer.

The playground is made of relatively inexpensive cardboard (really wish that they would have used something that felt more sturdy). However, it was very easy for my son to wire between the different pieces. He did not have any problem following the provided instructions. With the additional background that was provided, he was able to take the intended lesson and further explore on his own .... and understand what he was doing. With the Snap Circuits Pro, I did not feel like my daughter was given enough information to freely and easily experiment. Interesting that they seem to be made by the same manufacturer. My daughter has had her set for 3 years so maybe things have changed.

This was a very inexpensive way to provide a great introduction to electronics. My middle child was following along with my son and agreeing with all of the written explanations she learned at school for why the experirments worked. As an intro kit, there is certainly quite a lot that they teach the kid thru the many "experiements" and it is a good guide to test a child's interest in electronics before committing to a much more expensive set.

We got this for Christmas, for my 8 year old son who is a budding electrician. He loves circuits and is familiar with Elenco products. He was so excited to get this, and pretty quickly figured out how to use it. It is definitely one of the most educational toys out there for engineer-wannabes, and the projects were fun.

But I am sorry to say that it is very cheaply made. The base is a thick cardboard rather than plastic, so it easily tears. In fact, we ripped the battery flap almost immediately, even though we knew to be careful. Nothing a little strong tape couldn't fix, but considering that this toy is supposed to be tinkered with, it really needs to be made stronger to last awhile.

My two-month-old loves Peanut the Elephant. He has been spending time in his Infantino Square Twist & Fold Activity Gym (another great Infantino product) since he was about a month old. He enjoyed a few of the hanging animals that came with the gym (the monkey and the elephant). However, for younger babies these animals are a bit small for them, so I hung Peanut the Elephant from the gym (a lot of the Infantino animals like Peanut are interchangeable in the gym) and he adores it. He laughs at Peanut and will move the animal so that he can see the face. Now that he is older and has more control over his movements, my baby will bat and grab at Peanut's legs and the two discs that hang from the animal (one is textured and the other rattles). I love Peanut because he stimulates so many of my baby's developing senses and encourages the development of so many skills. Now I can put my baby in his activity gym and he will be content playing in it for anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes.
