I bought this toy for my son for Hanukkah because it looked educational. When it came it had a demo button, but it didn't work. I had to take the whole toy out of the packaging and replace the batteries. I was glad I had bought it for my own child and not as a gift. He does enjoy playing with it. He's learning a lot about other cultures. The adults enjoy it too and we're all amazed how much we don't know.
I also like the fact that the discs can store right inside the back of the toy. No lost pieces! We like this toy a lot. It promotes learning of cultural details, such as typical foods, dress, and animals of many countries, including the United States. Many of us grow up not knowing how to identify characteristics of even our own culture, whichever culture it may be, because it seems to be "just how it is". I think looking objectively at our own culture helps reduce ethnocentrism and hegemony. This toy also helps kids learn many country names and practice memorization skills. My kids enjoy being able to switch the disks and watch them spin around through the window in the cover. It's brilliantly designed with a compartment on the back to store the disks, however, my 4 y.o. has trouble getting them in there. Also, the disk cover comes off easily, but it's easy to snap back into place. Overall, well-recommended!

Discount Plan Toys City Series Tanker Truck
This is part of the plan toy collection. We have the parking garage and the road, train set so he has been begging for this truck for months from the catalog that came with his set. We finally got it for him for working on going potty and he would play with it all day if he could :)the cab seperates from the tanker and is very well made.
PS still loves this and am getting the cargo truck for him for the holidays.
Yes, they are pricey for a hand-held truck, but the quality is excellent!!
we will continue to buy plan toys. LOVE them!!

This is a wood truck with plastic wheels. The trailer is separate and hitches on. My 3-year old loves it and I like it better than plastic versions. It is part of the car wash set so consider buying that set before purchasing solo.Best Deals for Plan Toys City Series Tanker Truck

Best VTech V.Smile - Lil' Bratz Smartridge Deals
I like this Bratz game. It has many games to play that are fun enough for the older ones(4-5) but still easy enough for my youngest (3). A good choice for little Bratz fans!
Vtech VSmile graphics are pretty simple, but at that age I don't believe the kids really care. She had fun with it, and now her little sister is also enjoying it many years later.

Review of Roly-Poly Playground
My kids (4.5 and 3) have been picking up roly-polys all summer and I hadn't found a really good way to keep them. This toy is easy for the kids to open and even came with tips for keeping them. We have a release-bugs-at-night-so-they-can-go-back to-their-families rule at our house, but even if they were allowed in the house, bugs aren't getting out of this box.

i've never written a review before but i love this and so does my son. we take it everywhere we go. i often carry bug catching containers in my purse and this is perfect. not to mention its been dropped many times and hasn't broken. we recently left it at the pool and so i'm about to order two more before he notices. one for him and one for the other kids that love to look at this when we are out bug catching!Best Deals for Roly-Poly Playground

Family Pastimes / Christmas Game - A Co-operative Game Reviews
My children loved to play this game at Christmas and I have given it as gifts to a number of relatives and families, for many of whom this game has become a family tradition at Christmas. Ours has almost fallen apart from so much use and so I'm buying this one for us for next Chriistmas. It should see us through anothe generation of children.
I especially recommend this for a family with children at different ages. Because it is a cooperative game, the players all win or lose together. And as you play it, you can devise strategies to increase your chances of having a Merry Christmas, i.e. saving some gift-giving till later in the game, which helps the younger children to see the benefit of the other players strategizing. Usually, of course, younger players lose when older players play their best game...
Highly, highly recommended!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Discount Family Pastimes / Berries, Bugs & Bullfrogs - Four Co-operative
My 4 year old loves playing "Berries, Bugs and Bullfrogs". It introduces some simple math concepts like wich are more slugs or frogs or slug or berries. My 6 year old found it a bit too simple at the 4 year old level of play. We have not attempted the multiplication components yets. Is comparable to other Family Pastimes games we have played in terms of durability. My kids like "Princess", "Secret Door", and "Harvest Time" best for play-ability. No tears with these games.
As advertised, i BERRIES, BUGS AND BULLFROGS offers ways to play with mathematics and partnership. So far, we have played two of the 4 variations suggested. "The Good Berry Patch Game" has you build (together) berry patches that have more berries than bugs. You count all the berries and bugs in each patch. It's a good patch if it has more berries than bugs. This means many chances to talk about adding, subtracting, and comparing numbers.
"The Bug-Free Berry Patch Game," still a stretch for our 5-year old, has you score each berry patch. First, each bug in a patch eats a berry. Then you figure out the overall score for the berry patch. There's a bonus for a bug-free patch. Finally, you add up the score for all the patches to see how you did.
A whole other level of fun is offered by the pretend play possibilities of the squad of hungry bullfrogs. (Today my son declared they were a family and talked about the mommy frog, daddy frog, etc, as he played them.)
A cooperative game sounds like it might be no fun, but BERRIES, BUGS AND BULLFROGS is great. We love playing together. There is lots of energy and laughter every time we play, and our son asks to play this game.
As far as the game materials: both the bullfrogs and the tiles are very sturdy.
Only downside: the pictures on the game tiles show slugs, which I think of as not a type of bug (insects). So the first time I read the instructions, I had to look twice to confirm there were no insect-related game pieces, and that we had everything we should. I may be a very literal person, or it may be that bug is a more general term in Canada. Either way, it was a very small bump.
Our family loves BERRIES, BUGS AND BULLFROGS! We will be trying more of this company's games!

My 11 year old enjoyed this kit and building the various models. Overall this is a good toy for those interested in science/physics/engineering. Couple of gripes though. Some parts are very hard to fit together and require some muscle to get them to fit properly. This was made more difficult by the lack of detail and perspective in the instructions. The instructions are nicely presented and the color is great, but often did not provide enough detail (close ups) of certain areas or parts, or provide a different angle to readily understand how the various small parts are to be assembled this lead to a bit of frustration. If not for this, I would have given it 5 stars.Best Deals for Thames & Kosmos Physics Pro

My review of this item is mixed. On the plus side, my kids were very excited to try this quick sand experiment. It comes with a pretty nifty explanation of how this mixture is neither solid nor liquid, and so that's a worthwhile lesson to teach. And it does feel weird. It feels wet but it's not. It becomes powdery and dry but it's a liquid. BUT it turns out it's nothing more than a bag of cornstarch which you mix with water. And for which you've paid close to $8. The kids were a bit disappointed because it didn't feel or look like what they expected it to....actual quicksand. And it's really, really messy.I would recommend you do this OUTSIDE as you can't pour it down the sink or even really wash your hands in the sink. We used wet paper towels and then kept rubbing our hands until it basically disappeared. So you can do the same thing at home with cornstarch and water but you won't have the nifty box and explanation of solids and liquids. The two plastic animals were fine but we used lots of our own figures to play with.
Grand children love the science behind it. Thank you

This Jungle Quicksand is an example of what is called a Non-Newtonian fluid-a fluid that defies Isaac Newton's law of viscosity. All fluids have this property. Viscosity is a fluid's measurable thickness or resistance to flow.
Newton stated that the viscosity (thickness) of a fluid can be changed only by altering the fluid's temperature. For example, motor oil and honey both flow more easily when you warm them up and they become very thick when they get cold. A Non-Newtonian fluid has the same dependence on temperature but, its viscosity can also be changed by applying pressure. When you squeeze a handful of this gooey Quicksand, its viscosity increases so, it acts like a solid for a split second. When you release the pressure, the glop behaves like a liquid again.
This is a great little science kit that also teaches just how quicksand works and how to escape it if you ever find yourself trapped! This Jungle Quicksand kit even comes with a list other activities you can do with it. The options are to change the color of the Quicksand, write a story about the jungle world you created and it tells you how you can create your own real quicksand at home using a large tub, water and sand.
Jungle Quicksand comes with a page of safety information for the supervising adult which is very informative. Be very sure to read how this must be discarded! Jungle Quicksand Cool Science kit was created by Steve Spangler and sold by Be Amazing Toys.
If you have ever watched The Big Bang Theory, you may have seen this glop dancing on a large speaker. They covered the sub-woofer in plastic wrap and the vibrations caused the glop to react in such a way that it appeared to be dancing. My sons love watching the white glop dance, as they call it!
Do you think this is a kit you would buy for your own children? Jungle Quicksand is created by Steve Spangler Science. This kit is for children ages 8 and older and must be used under adult supervision. The cornstarch in the kit is to be kept away from nasal passages and eyes. Do not use around food and food storage.

Reviews of LeapFrog Explorer Learning Game: Disney-Pixar Cars 2 (works
Customer Ratings:
List Price: $24.99
Sale Price: $15.96
Today's Bonus: 36% Off

Recently my oldest son, 5 years old, received the new LeapPad from LeapFrog to review for free along with Disney Pixar Cars 2. The great thing about this learning tablet is that it takes the same cartridges as our Leapster Explorer. So when one boy isn't playing Disney Pixar Cars 2 on the LeapPad, he's playing it on the Leapster Explorer.
About the Game: In Disney Pixar Cars 2, children will join Mater and Lightening McQueen in a global race-turned-espionage tale. Along the way, children will practice measurements, problem-solving, graphs, sequencing and patterns.
I had to pry the game out of my son's hands to learn more about it to share with you. So that said, you can be sure he loved it on the LeapPad. And when he wasn't playing with Cars 2 on the LeapPad, my 4 year old was playing with it on the Leapster Explorer. But once I got my hands on it, I chose to play it on the LeapPad to share my thoughts with you.
From the Main Menu of the game there are 5 places to visit:
Adventure Mode: You drive around Radiator Springs finding collectibles. You can meet characters along the way to talk too. It lets you know when you can talk or stop somewhere. There are activities along the way, like customizing cars or keep Mater disguised using number sequencing. As you complete activities you can get badges.
Activity Mode: There looks like there are eight activities in this mode but two of ours were locked by the time I started playing. Activities in this mode include Airport Chase (matching, fine motor skills), Finn's Photo Mission (graphing), Secret Decoder (matching), Finn's Jump (fine motor skills, tracking), Oil Rig Chase (matching, reading signs, fine motor skills), Disguise Device (number sequencing).
Salvage Yard: Where collectibles from Radiator Springs adventure mode are stored.
Badges: The different badges earned.
Micromods: I haven't ever used micromods. You download them LeapWorld to change or enhance the game somehow. It could be new game music, character upgrades, game modes or moves, etc.
The only thing I was disappointed in was the packaging. I miss having a way to easily organize my games. I kept all previous Leapster Explorer Games in their boxes on a shelf, so the boys can easily find what they are looking for and put their games back. The new packaging has to be ripped apart to remove the game, leaving you with a loose game to easily misplace.
That is everything I discovered! Overall the game is pretty cute and I am impressed with the skills it's teaching. Cartridge games for Leapster Explorer and LeapPad usually retail for $24.99. If you find them less, it's a bargain.

I was shocked when my almost-4-year-old began playing this game! Mater the tow truck has to dodge machine gun bulllets from the car chasing him! This is completely inappropriate for young children! Exposing kids to gun violence in video games so early (or at all!) is part of a growing problem, especially in light of the recent school shootings. I was appalled that an educational toy would feature a game with machine gun violence.
