My little guy turned 6 and for his birthday we ordered this. He loved getting a package delivered to him. He was excited to set-up his own ant farm and watches the ants with facination. He drags the neighborhood kids (and anyone who is willing) in to look at his ants! When he comes home from school he goes right to the ants to see what new tunnels they have made. One afternoon he excitedly drug me over to it to show me the 'round-about' the ants had made. "Just like the one near our home" he said.

Teaching English at a Christian-founded Japanese pre-K, I have an opportunity to share simple concepts. These little stickers were a perfect reward at the end of my lesson. My kids loved the happy faces, bright colors and a chance to repeat the name of the fruit. Nice little teaching tool and reward. My only recommended improvement would be to make them scented according to their fruit, however that's also what imaginations are for. :)

We had a WIC event in our community, where people came to learn about healthy eating for women and kids under the age of 5. We thought these would be a cute item for kids. When we received them, the inks were terribly faded on all of the sticker sheets. It look like either they had been laid out in the sun for months and months, or the printer had gone in an printed at 30% saturation to save on ink or something. They looked really sad, and we felt pretty awful giving them out to kids who couldn't ID the fruit according to color.

Very disappointed.

The description mentions light bulbs, buzzers, and circuit boards--ignore that, as none of these items have anything to do with this kit.

My 6 year old, who had no previous interest in volcanoes, has really enjoyed this kit over the past week. We are also reading the Magic School Bus chapter book "Voyage to the Volcano" and the two items go very well together. We home-school, so I'm supplementing this kit with extra activities from my own ideas and other non-fiction books and websites in order to create a fun "extra credit" science unit.

She's excited, we're both learning, and I was OK with the price of this item. So far it's got 5 stars. It loses half a star because of false advertising. It really bothers me when products like this have embellished marketing pictures/descriptions. The differences between the picture and the actual contents are subtle, but it still bothers me. The paintbrush is not longer than the paint box, the pipette is shaped differently than pictured, the volcano form is shipped in a flattened state and is thus not the same shape as pictured, and the second test tube (pictured inside the volcano form) is the same size as the test tube pictured in the rack--much smaller than the "crater" of the volcano form.

It loses another half star for the little details that aren't quite right. The pipette doesn't work at all. The red food dye provided is powdered but instructions refer to "drops of food coloring". The provided paints are ineffective for painting the volcano form. The goggles are unnecessary. The instructions provided do not produce a very impressive "eruption".

The product is very durable and we really like the poster and activity guide. When we're done with the kit I'll pack it back up and keep it for when the other kids are ready for it (the consumables are easy and cheap to replace). For a 6 year old, it's good exposure to many volcano-related topics, but fully understanding most of the details is beyond her interest at this time (when she's a bit older, the details may be more interesting, but the activities would likely be too boring). We are both excited to try more Magic School Bus kits/books. I estimate that this time through we'll get about 5 hours of use from this kit, 75% of it with one-on-one adult supervision.

I am inspired to try the acids and bases kit, since the volcano eruption activities (which account for 4 of the 12 activities) are more chemistry than volcanology.

I purchased this item for my 5-year old grandson who is VERY into volcanoes. He couldn't wait to make the lava flow.

Alas, we were able to get just a small amount of lava to come up over the top of the test tube. Only a drop or two actually came down the side of the volcano.

We tried three different times, following the instructions to the letter.

Maybe my baking soda or vinegar were 'old'?

Anyway, my grandson still enjoyed the gift and looked really cute with his safety goggles :)

My 6 y/o son is currently fascinated with Volcanoes at school and it has become his #1 preferred school project subjects. I had purchased several kids Books and Magazines for him on Volcanoes but never an actual kit. Considering he enjoyed the Magic School Bus Volcano episode I figured this would be perfect for his first Volcano kit. Unfortunately this kit did not really live up to his expectations and he would get frustrated with this kit, although I do understand this kit has small print geared more towards adults for teaching children. I have not been able to work with him lately due to some business travel. My wife took up the chore of helping with the adult part but even then my wife had explained to me that this kit is about average on the adult friendly part and really below average on the child friendly part. This may seem confusing, but then that is the point since this kit is advertised as being geared towards 5 10 y/o children. So from re-reading the product description and taking in my wife's description of the actual product it does seem to me that they tried to get the best of both the adult and kids world here but came up short. I then ordered a simpler erupting volcano from another toy maker which my son enjoyed very much. Simplicity wins out again when trying to make a toy educational.

I just got this for my 2 year old. We have a few of the ones that first came out. He enjoyed them but they didn't hold his intrest as well as this one. My son isn't a big thomas fan but he played staight through this one and wanted to play again. It talks about manners and letters and numbers. It really got him using the joystick which the others didn't.

The only reason I didn't give it a great durability rating is because as anyone who has this system knows they are on dvds and although my son hasn't broken one of these yet he has broken other dvds. If you are deciding between Thomas or one of the non tv character games chose Thomas.

I purchased this and Dora at a special discounted rate around the holidays for my 2 yr old son. We tried Dora first and both of us were bored. So I was skeptical about how Thomas would be. But thank goodness my son enjoys it, as do I. While he doesn't watch the Thomas television show he is familiar with the trains so it grabs his interest. This game covers manners, feelings, letters and numbers and focuses on social skills. As far as the toddler Little Leaps line goes I find this one to be one of the best ones, with Leap Ahead as my second preference, though I don't care for the LeapFrog characters on it (we have yet to try the Backyardigans game).

We bought this for Christmas in 07 when my son was 2 1/2. He didn't play with it much, but now at 3 years old, he loves this game. He loves the whole Thomas family and this game is his favorite. The manners they teach are good, and my son likes to play along with the characters is acting out the manners or emotions. As for the durability of the disk, not so good. We are on our second disk now. Even with very little handling by my sons, the disk is scratched just enough to not work for some of the games. It shuts off when trying top play. I wish they could find a way to make them more durable for a product for kids and used by kids. I do put the disk in for him, but occasionally he will get a hold of it and I guess it gets scratched easily.

Fisher-Price Little Superstar Bop 'n Beats Drum Set Review

I thought this would be a great toy, I mean, a drum set for a baby. But this just isn't a drum set, it is a badly designed hard plastic toy that makes noise. And half the time it doesn't even make drum like sounds but sings for you. Or yells at you. I mean, hit that plastic drum and half the time it will sing for you "babadoo ba ba ba". Common. That is just simply dumb. If there had been a button for the toy so that it only made drum sound in mode one and did this stupid singing/yelling in the mode two I might have liked it a little better. Or make more parts that do the yelling if you so wish. But the "beebeede beebabooo Yeahh" is even irritating to my seven month old. This could so easily have been a great toy. I thought more highly of Fisher Price than this. Slight modifications on the sound would have made it nicer and make some of the hard plastic soft (for my teething 7 month old). And why not have more parts that move and rattle to make sounds on their own, what is wrong with that? As is it is not a very nice toy. I was so disappointed!

I purchased this for my daughter after my husband saw it in a store (he's a musician) and my daughter was thrilled with it immediately (5.5 months old then.) She "got it" right away and never seems to tire of it. I was pleased with the sturdy construction and the dual volumes. I like that it plays both scats, and each instrument individually. It's bright, colorful, and I love that all the pieces have smiling faces, as babies really identify and enjoy faces on EVERYTHING. This was well worth the money and I have recommended it to many other mom's in my online groups. It's a great toy!

UPDATE: My daughter is now 15 months old and still plays with this toy. I just wanted to add that it is still going strong and holds her interest.

We got this toy as a gift. Was never played much with neither of my two babies paid attention to it. There is nothing much there just a stand with some drum-shaped attachments that play some short song or music when hit. Yesterday I sold it at a yard sale for a dollar and had two mommies fight over it. Thus became curious and checked the price of this toy here. Frankly, I am shocked to see it priced at $39! I thought it was under $10 for all the play value and functions it has. Save your money, it is an overhyped & overpriced toy.

Got this as a gift for my daughter this past Christmas. I know, I know, if it's enjoyable for baby it shouldn't matter to dad, but I was hoping that there would be more musical features with this toy (I have to agree with reviewer Sigrun Hreinsdottir, the scatting "biddabeebopbopboo" is a tad irritating) and my daughter only plays with it sporadically, it doesn't really hold her interest. If there's one toy I would recommend it would be the LeapFrog Learn & Groove Musical Table, I got this for her last Christmas and she STILL enjoys playing with it (I'll be writing a separate review for that, but let me say beforehand that I do highly recommend it). In all fairness to this product, my nephews seem to enjoy it.

Maybe I didn't pay attention when I bought this thing, but it requires a 9-volt battery (the kind you usually find in smoke detectors) and that was not included in the package. Also, the spinning made some annoying sounds after a few days but that wasn't anything you can't fix with some kind of lubricant and 5 seconds of your time.

I really like this thing, and I don't see any reason why you wouldn't buy this item here on Amazon if you are already considering buying one.

I would like to add that this might not be so much of a toy since you can't really play with it, just observe it. It 's the kind of thing you want sitting on a shelf or something and that's pretty much it.

I bought this "toy" because it looked interesting. It is more than it is downright addictive. At first, the motion was haphazard, but I tinkered with the support arms to bring it into alignment and it now works perfectly. The shuttle continues to rotate once with each swing of the outer circle. It was a little noisy, but a little Vaseline on the rotating pieces solved that. I am so glad I bought it. The grandkids love it.

The product itself is undeniably perfect for my 4 y.o. daughter. It's fun and very helpful for pre-schoolers. The construction is very well made.
