Late winter 2006 I heard Bob Edwards interviewing Patty Larkin re: her La Guitara project. One of Patty's goals is to get more little girls playing guitar. I heard that and immediately thought of my cousin's 9 yo daughter Meganne. I sent Meganne the La Guitara CD & asked her if she'd like to learn to make that kind of music. Learning Resources Cross-Section Human Head Model (LER1909) Review

I am teaching a unit on the brain using PET scans to show neuron function. I thought this model would help the younger children to understand looking into the brain by showing it come apart and "looking" inside. This product idea is good, but I am not happy with the product itself. It is colorful and well painted, but it is hard for me to keep the two main pieces exactly alligned despite the ear serving as a connecting "plug" which is supposed to keep them together. It would have been really nice if it were a whole head split in half down the middle instead of part of the head missing. I would probably return it if it weren't such an inconvience.

We have bought several of these to use in demos for dental products. The item is light, detailed, and a decent size for the purposes of pointing out various details of the oral cavity. It's also very friendly looking and not intimidating to the average person.

Picking out a birthday present for my one-year-old niece was a heated competition between my brother and I. His gift was top secret and purported to be the best baby gift ever. On the day of the party, everyone expected my niece to enjoy the packaging more than the actual gifts, and she did except when it came to this amazing Tiny Love product. She immediately began putting the balls in the cone and was thrilled by all the music. It has apparently kept her amused hour after hour. Like the Tiny Love mobile (used by many in my family including my own child) this product is educational and enjoyable.

This has been a favorite toy of my 1 yr old son for the last 6 months. He still plays with it every day. What is great about it is there are many different components to this toy that he has been able to learn and grow with. He started just enjoying the rattling balls and the elephant head. Then he discovered how to put the balls in the elephant head. Now, he puts the balls (and other things) in without the head. His new trick is to turn it on its side and put the balls in the front and try to figure out how to get them out. This toy has been consistently played with and has taught my son many skills.

My daughter received this toy for her 1st Christmas. Now, almost 1 year later, she still loves it. I am amazed at how much she plays with this toy. It gets plays with it everyday, which I can't say that about many toys. It makes cute "yeah" sounds(it also makes other cheerful noises) when you drop a ball inside. She claps for herself and laughs. I heard about this toy from a parenting magazine review... and to tell you the truth was a bit sceptical about all the raving. But, when I saw it in a store, I was sold. It soft and colorful. The music is not too loud. The balls and rings are a perfect size for little hands to grab.

My 7 month daughter loved it the moment she saw it. There are so many ways she can play with it. And the toy will definitely grow with her. I thought it was so good, I am going to uy another one for my friend's baby.

My grandson is a very good student and he loves activities that help him to learn and have fun. When he heard we had this volcano kit he just had to work on it. This is a wonderful kit for several reasons. There is an activity book and an adventure guide that provides fun activities and some scientific background on what volcanoes are and how they work. There is a great hands-on part of the kit where your children get to paint and create their own volcano design. And finally the grand finally where the volcano erupts and they see their lessons and creative design in action. The results can be seen in our attached video.

My grandson learned a lot about volcanoes, where they are located like the Ring of Fire, the location of the largest volcano in our solar system, how seismic monitors work and the parts of a volcano. He had a good time and learned a lot.

It was a several hour project of studying, painting and finally taking the volcano outside to make it erupt. Though the chemicals are safe I recommend adult supervision when adding and mixing the chemicals and creating the eruption. We both had fun on this project and so did my wife. I recommend this as a good learning tool and a family activity.

I had three children working on this Volcano Kit. It comes with one small paint brush and a small set of paint colors, so I brought out a few more paintbrushes of a similar size. The children wished for bigger paintbrushes and more paint. It turns out, the paint supplied was enough to cover the volcano, and the colors were in a scheme that would work no matter how the children applied it. It looked pretty good.

The kit comes with citric acid, sodium bicarbonate, and some red coloring. Mix it together and add some water to see it work. There wasn't a huge eruption, so we decided to try one of the alternative methods suggested by Dr. Cool: baking soda, vinegar and detergent.

My son gives this kit four stars, because the volcano did not give the eruption he expected, but it was fun overall.

This is not our first volcano science kit, but it was certainly the best one we've come across. What made the experience better for us was the ceramic volcano. The last kit we bought was just a bag of paper mache and our volcano ended up being an ugly mess. I also loved the real specimens in this kit. That was a great touch, and added a lot of educational value. The educational booklet included was also superb. Overall, very impressed.

This is definitely a durable "volcano" that can be used time and time again, provided care is used when conducting an experiment. If you didn't know, "a volcano is a type of mountain formed when the earth's surface opens an molten rock from deep within the earth's core comes out." Of course before you know the hows and whys of a volcanic eruption, you do have to know about the structure of the earth.

Dr. Cool has written an Adventure Guide that tells you a lot about volcanoes. The guide has some pretty amazing diagrams and full color photographs that will practically blow your mind. Just kidding, but you will learn about things like plate tectonics, the "Ring of Fire," the parts of a volcano, the three different types, how volcanoes are classified, the largest ones on earth, how volcanic eruptions are predicted, "volcanic winter," the benefits of volcanoes, geothermal energy, and you'll learn about the rocks in your kit.

There are also some "Cool Science Facts" scattered throughout the book. For example, did you know that "pumice is so light that it floats on water?" It does! Along with your Adventure Guide there's an Activity Booklet with some "A-Maze-Ing" puzzles for you to work out.

This is an excellent volcano science kit that children will love experimenting with. Of course if you have additional citric acid and sodium bicarbonate you will be able to run this "experiment" time and time again. If the completed volcano is unfired it will obviously not look like the picture, but keep that in mind when you order. Most towns and some schools do have a kiln available and would probably be willing to a volcano in it (inquire first).

The lava "explosion" is essentially an Endothermic Chemical Reaction, a safe one, but I'd still recommend adult supervision. This would be a fun, educational experiment that can be conducted at home or in a homeschool or classroom setting.

My son received this as a birthday present. He will be 4 years old and LOVES this game. I can't even tell you how many times we played it today. It is an easy enough concept to grasp and like all Haba games is excellently crafted. For the price this is a great addition to any game closet. I am a speech therapist that works with preschool age children. They all LOVE this game! We use it for turn taking, articulation practice ("arrrr!"), and talking about what the pirates are doing as they go around the board. It comes in a small box, doesn't have too many pieces, and doesn't take too long to play. The rules are easy enough for preschool children to understand and remember. I give this game a giant thumbs up!

I bought this for my 13-month old son today and was disappointed. Given the title, I thought this book would have playful sing-along or dance-along type songs, but it doesn't. It isn't very musical or fun. It's not a cohesive story either...but worse, I couldn't even find a single page that I thought my son would like (after he walked away uninterested).

Setting 2 was especially boring, mostly naming objects & animals saying short phrases; setting 3 had a little more personality and maybe some really short songs. I suppose it could be educational for an older child, but I'm not keeping it to see.

A fun book that I enjoy a lot w/ my young toddler is "Rainbow Fish 1,2,3". It's much more fun and musical, even though it's actually a counting book!

This is a wonderful toy! Our baby was born with Down's Syndrome and by the time he was two months old he had already figured out how to turn the toy on by pushing the large buttons (easily pushed by a baby who has weak muscles, a condition typical to Downs babies) or by letting out a loud scream if he was swaddled and couldn't push the buttons. When he is very fussy, this is the only toy that comforts him (when mommy can't). If he cries, the toy turns on by itself and immediately entertains him. He makes the most adorable faces and noises with this toy! I think this was the fist thing he ever truly smiled at! He loves the light which turns different colors at a soothing or upbeat pace (based on the song or tune playing), and if I sing or hum a song that this toy has, he immediately smiles and recognizes it! It motivates him to move his arms and work his eye muscles which is what his therapist wants him to do. It is easy to use and has a strap on the back that allows you to attach it to a crib. The "play", 5, 10, and 15 minute settings are also great. I love what this toy has brought out in our son. He is almost four months old and has not tired of it at all. I only wish that it had a silent setting sometimes, as that light seems that it could entertain him by itself (for nighttime). Otherwise, this is a fantastic toy in my opinion as it works very well for him! I'm buying him a second one for back up!!!

My apologies, I left a review on the 26 th, but I see it didn't post. Excellent service. Actually arrive Christmas Eve. Toy was bought for autistic hearing impaired daughter and she kept insisting that we check the mail on Christmas Day. We kept trying to sign to her that the mail doesn't come today. Finally to get her to stop harassing us, my husband took her out to get the mail. To all of our surprise, there was her gift. I guess with all the partying doing-going stuff on the eve, she forgot to get the mail too. This gift totally rocked her day. Thanks again.

Consider this as an alternative to an electronic keyboard toy. It's nearly impossible to find a musical toy that doesn't take batteries nowadays! This toy is true to key, has a bright tone, and is fun to play with. My 1-year-old niece loves to pound on it, and I'm hoping that she'll learn a little something about music from it as well. I ordered this piano for my 1 year old daughter for christmas, and it is by far her favorite present. At first she was quite rough with the keys and I was worried it would get damaged but she quickly calmed down and plays much more delicately. Since she "opened" it she has been enamored and consistently crawls back to it to play a little song for me. I was concerned she was too young for this piano but I think it suits her quite well. Perfect size for a little one, and looks and feels sturdy and high quality. The only complaint I have is I THOUGHT i purchased the red piano with gold logo and mine showed up with a white logo... Really not a big deal for us though. I love this piano and like that it's not just a toy, it's educational too. All in all perfect for our little whites-stripes-loving, indie-rock-jamming little girl.

Yes, THE FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS PIANO!!!! That alone earns it 5 stars. I actually bought this for an adult friend who's a fan of the show, but she might have to fight my niece for it because she fell in love with it too when she saw it. I'm a huge believer in teaching music to children. This piano is a great size for a toddler (or adult) and seems to be very solidly constructed. Not 100% in tune, but very close considering it's a toy. I'd trust it to last several years, and will probably end up buying one for my niece next Christmas too. Haven't played the other model w/ fewer keys, but I think this model must be better.

Okay, here's the information I wanted before I bought this. :)

First and foremost, disregard the photo the only thing it shows you is the selection of colors you get. This is a very simple package 100 tiles each of four different colors (red, green, yellow, blue), for a total of 400 tiles. The tiles are sturdy plastic, one inch square by 2mm thick, with a smooth finish. (That's right, they're all squares no triangles or other shapes, despite the photo.) There are a few rough spots on the edges, so you might want to go over 'em with a file before letting the little ones loose on them.

Game designers, take note: this is an excellent source of Scrabble-like plain tiles. Just print your desired information on 3/4" squares and tape 'em to the tiles, and you've got decent playing pieces that can be easily changed or customized.
