I have had this set for over 2 years and it is still going strong! I use it during live shows and in recordings and the high pitch cuts through amped guitars and a full drum kit very well. This is not a toy; it can be used as a professional musical instrumentmine has been around the country a few times and is still in great shape. The mallets that come with it actually have a good sound but they are kind of flimsy. I had to glue the ball part back on to the handle on both of them eventually. When the handles broke I bought the Mike Balter MBB7 hard mallets because I need my sound to be LOUD. I love this little kit and even if I eventually get a more expensive set I will still use this one when I need a loud clear bell sound.

The photo is of a red/yellow one. The one we got was a teal with yellow. I'm glad we got the teal one it's exactly the same as the one we use in music class. It's a fun toy. Teaches coordination skills to make the clacking noise. Great for 1year+. The bright colors are attractive. A little direction of use would be nice on the outside of the package. My husband and I worked for a while to make some sounds with the Clatterpillar and with not much luck. It doesn't do a lot. It's headed to my daughter's preschool, so I hope the kids are more coordinated than we are.

The wood has a glossy finish and color is a deeper red than in the photo. The color of the wheels are also a brighter yellow than the photo and more lustrous looking. I like that it has rubber trim on the wheels to go easy on the floors. It came in a box with clear glassine on the top and sides which proudly displays the toy (securely fastened in its upright position). It is smaller than other pull toys I've seen, but the quality appears top notch. I am giving it as a gift for a one-year old, which the toy seems the perfect size for a new walker or a toddler.

My 9 month old is obsessed with our laptops so we got this for him to keep him distracted while we're working on ours. So far he really loves it. He's too young to really understand how to properly use it, but enjoys pushing the buttons to hear the sounds and see the lights. I think it's a toy he's going to be able to grow into. My one word of caution is regarding the laptop lid. I'd seen other reviews on similar products that fingers were easily pinched in the closed lid. Unfortunately, it's very true. The toy is recommended for ages 12 months and up, and I suspect that's part of the reason. I don't think it should stop you from buying it for a younger baby, just be aware and keep an eye on your baby while they're playing.

I bought this game system for my niece when she was 3 and now she is 4 and we are moving up to the more difficult games. She plays her penguin game during her "quiet time" since she doesn't nap any more and it gives the adults a break! I used this to get off some annoying afternoon eating habits that I suspected to just fulfill the need to chew something more substantial than gum. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I picked this product for my one year old grandson as he loves trucks. We took it out of the box and started it into the gyrations that it can do. Great fun! My grandson was entranced. His eyes never left the truck and he was laughing and couldn't wait to take it out for a spin. The truck engages the child with banter and interactive requests for which it coordinates sounds and gymnastics. I really like this product and rate it very high. I rated it a four star because, the toy has a more limited set of "events" than a $50 item should have in my opinion. What it does, it does very well.

However, this is my CAUTION: Do not let a younger child handle this toy by themselves. My grandson loves to drive his trucks around the house. When you push this truck from behind, there is no stability and this is necessary for the truck to do its flips and such. But for the little one pushing, the truck flips into their face and "bang" a cut lip. We put the truck away for another 6 months to see how he can do with it later. This is not the fault of the vehicle or the manufacturer. It was our fault for not realizing why the age limit was set.

I think that with a couple of more months of walking under his belt, he will be able to play with this truck again. Until the little accident, we thought that we had a tremendous winner for our youngster. I still think that we have a winner, but we will have to wait just a little longer for those smiles.

When I was a child, I played with Tonka trucks made out of durable steel. They came in all sizes. In fact, my parents still have them. They have been stored in their home's attic. When I grew older, I played with remote control toys, mostly race cars. I lost interest in them about twenty-five years ago when I moved to Chesapeake, Virginia. I was excited to receive from the Amazon Vine Program the Tumblin' Chuck from Tonka. I was glad to learn the child in me had never died; he had only become dormant for a little time.

Tumblin' Chuck arrived with demo batteries already installed. However, you may want to put fresh ones in before giving him as a gift because mine weakened quickly with use. I was thrilled to put Tumblin' Chuck through all his moves. (Please watch the short video that I made with my Apple iPhone 4.) He performs the best when he is played with on a hard, flat surface such as the tennis court where I filmed him. He constantly failed to correctly perform his somersaults when I operated him on my apartment's shag carpet and kept asking for my help to upright him.

I think Tumblin' Chuck is adorable and easy to operate. I scanned his operating instructions into my computer, including the instructions for replacing batteries, and posted them to Amazon's website. A close friend of mine, Amy, works at Tiny Tikes Daycare Center. I allowed her children to play with Tumblin' Chuck. She told me most all of the children, including the girls, enjoyed playing with him. The girls thought he was cute. He has a sweet voice (one whose volume cannot be decreased or increased) that matches his face, giving him an unique personality. I expected Tumblin' Chuck to be severely damaged when Amy returned it to me but he still appeared relatively new, except for a few scuff marks on the face.

If your child enjoys playing with dump trucks, then I recommend Tonka's interactive Tumblin' Chuck. It is durable and fun. I especially enjoyed watching him perform his somersaults and "exercises"--push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks. Perhaps Tumblin' Chuck will be a good role model for children when it comes to exercising. I received a workout just pushing him across the tennis court and chasing after him with my iPhone. The neighbors must've thought I was crazy. One couple came to play tennis and I was having so much fun that I didn't notice their arrival. After apologizing, I explained to them that I was conducting a review on Tumblin' Chuck for Amazon.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have a love, hate relationship with Tumblin' Chuck. My kids love him. So much so, that they routinely fight over their turn with him. The voice and music is annoying, to the point were I don't want to be in the room while the kids play with him even when they aren't fighting over him. And at 3 and 5 years old, the kids can't fully grasp how to make the truck flip over when they want it to.

That said, this truck is extremely durable. It has been thrown down slides and staircases without injury. The kids have attempted to ride it and it still runs well.

While I'm not a fan of this toy at all, it can survive my children and it makes them happy and will probably appeal to other kids their ages.

When I happened onto this little mail truck, I knew we had to have him. His adorable little face reminds me so much of my childhood, of playing with my parents old toys, and that's no real surprise. Holgate is a company that started making toys in 1929, and the wonderful retro designs on them are courtesy of Jarvis Rockwell (brother to the famous Norman Rockwell). This company's name seemed really familiar to me, and last time we were playing at my daughter's great-grandmother's house, I realized it was because the name "holgate" was stamped on the bottom of my dad's old 1950's wooden stacking toy. One that has been through 3 generations of kids, and hardly shows the wear for it. Holgate isn't kidding when they say their toys are made to last a lifetime... and then some.

But enough about history. I think this toy is a fantastic little creation, and the price isn't bad either. Made of American hardwoods, with non-toxic paints (which don't smell upon unpacking), this is one toy that won't offer any unpleasant surprises. It's a good size, unlike some of the German toys that occasionally do surprise me with how much smaller they look than the accompanying images portray them to be. The wooden sorting pieces are just large enough to not pose a major choking hazard, though gifting to the nearly two crowd would be the safest bet. I love the little wooden 'love letters', and suspect the kids will too. The unfinished wood on this truck is rich in color and has beautiful grain. He pulls nicely and smoothly across the floor (the pull cord on ours is multi-colored, retro-looking, not red), and I could see him him being a really versatile toy. He's a sorter, a pull toy, a ride for little Playmobil people, just a truck to go vroom vroom with, and a place to stash little letters that need to be delivered around imaginary towns.

I just can't wait to see how the kids like him Christmas morning, but I think I can safely say you couldn't go wrong with this mail truck. Very, very cool.

My grandmother used to have my mother's Holgate toys from the 1940s at her house when we came to visit. All of my cousins and I loved them, and now the great-grandchildren play with them too. I only just realized that Holgate still makes toys today, so I got this one for my 18-month old nephew for Christmas. He is really into trucks, and pulled it behind him for two weeks straight, even at the grocery store. He stopped playing with the shape sorter once he "solved" it, but he really likes putting the two wooden love letters through the mail slot. Lately, this toy has been transporting Thomas the Tank Engine and a bunch of blocks around the house while the nephew periodically makes it have crashes. It is pretty darn sturdy, luckily.

Made in the USA, which is a big selling point for me.

The truck we got is ordering from this page is the one shown in the second picture, with the white sides and the smiling face on the front.

I didn't buy this for a child, I use it to pick up tiny feeder crickets. For the purpose I'm using it for, it works fantastic. 1/4 inch crickets are hard to pick up with out injuring them. Sometimes they don't go into the tubes and it can be a PITA to catch them. That's where this toy really comes in handy! It sucks the little buggers right up! It didn't work too hot on the spider my son tried to get off the ceiling. If the bug has some grab on something or you don't have the right angle, it's not as successful at sucking up the bug. If you need to grab tiny crickets out of the corner of the cricket bin, this does a stellar job!

Our house has become a fraternity for Stink Bugs. Those little jerks swarm our house every fall thanks to the soybean field behind our house. Is that a stain on your curtain? Nope, that's a colony of stinkbugs trying to stay warm for the winter.

My wife refuses to catch bugs in a cup..you know, the old fashioned way...so i ordered this bad boy to try to coax her to catch sneaky little buttholes ...and it worked!

I read the description and didn't see any reviews, so I wasn't sure what to expect. This is fantastic, though, and I'm so impressed that I'm trying to decide among the literacy sets to have one more preschool homeschooling tool like this set.

The cardboard box with drawers is well-made, though the top of ours drooped a little after our 15 pound cat used it for a nap. :) The drawer is help it regain its shape, though, so the droop is almost gone now.

Inside, you'll find:

*Tiles, made out of durable foam:

--Ten yellow and ten blue foam number sets (both 0 to 9) that come in all blue/all yellow and then you switch to blue background with yellow numbers and vice versa. Or, if you want your child to feel each number's shape, you can omit the background. The numbers have a nice texture to them, which also helps for sensory input.

--Ten white tiles with number names in lowercase letters in a black sans serif font (one-ten)

--Ten varied and colorful picture cards representing numbers one through ten (one heart, two carrots, three drums, four pears, five frogs, six balloons, seven kites, eight mushrooms, nine basketballs, ten stars)

--Fifteen apple cards (two each of one apple, two apples, three apples, four apples, five apples; one each of six apples, seven apples, eight apples, nine apples, and ten apples)

--Fifty foam circles that can be used as counters or in patterning. Each has a smaller circle in the middle which can be removed my daughter likes to do that, so it's a nice fine motor skill building activity that I didn't anticipate!

*Activity cards, which are all reversible and made of sturdy cardstock with a finish that you can use dry erase markers on:

--The purple ones (4x8 the size of a lot of Christmas card photos people send out) you see on the upper right of the picture are for patterning. They have a series of colors in a pattern with a few white spaces for your child to put the colored foam circles to replicate the pattern. Some are simple (yellow, red, yellow, red, yellow, red, followed by three white circles for your child to fill in), while some are a little more complex by adding more colors or pairings (red, red, blue, red, red, blue...). My three year old loves these, and a precocious two year old might be all about them too.

--The flip side of the pattern cards are yellow cards with white boxes for blanks and operational symbols (+, -, =, ). You can see them in the picture on the right middle, although the foam numbers are on top of the white squares so you can't see them. I use this to model mathematical functions with her now, and she is starting to be able to do the less than/more than cards already. Once she is older, I'll be able to set up problems for her, performing basic algebra by leaving a square blank. Or she can do her own. The other nice thing is that you can use the number cards, word cards, or picture cards (which have different numbers of apples on them) here. We'll be starting with the picture ones soon.

--The blue cards (4x8) are almost the same as the yellow one, except that they already have some numbers (on one side) or apple pictures (on the other) plugged in with only one white blank square (or two in a couple of instances).

--The red cards (4x8) allow children to compare different representations of the same number. Each has one square filled in as well as the coordinating number of circles. Children can then find the other cards that match and get the right number of counters to fill in the circles. For example, for the number two card, she can find the foam number 2, the card with two apples, the card with two carrots, the card with the word "two", and two counters. She can't do it all on her own yet, but we do it together.

--One large card (about 8x10) with pictures on one side, each with a blank white square under it. For example, the first one is one red wagon with a box underneath, followed by two bees with a box underneath, and so on (3 ants, 4 pigs, 5 butterflies, 6 pizza slices, 7 oranges, 8 penguins, 9 beach balls, and 10 baby chicks). In the blank squares, children can put any of the matching cards the matching apple cards, the matching other picture card, the word card, or the foam number. There isn't enough room for all the counters for the larger number. Once kids are writing numbers, a dry erase marker could be used to write them too. I may do that to help her learn which foam number matches each in the beginning.

--On the opposite side of that card, the top is just like the yellow cards described above: blank white square + blank white square = blank white square. Once again, the apple cards, number cards, or word cards can be used. Underneath each box is a larger box in which the child can put the matching number of round counters. This is shown in the upper left corner of the picture.

--One two-sided card (also 8x10) provides instructions for the different activities, much like many of the details I shared above.

I know this is a long review, but I took a long time before I purchased this because I couldn't find any detailed reviews. I think these are great for preschools, daycares with older children, or families at home. I haven't gotten any other kits yet, but I have my eye on a few. I definitely recommend this one! We're using it a lot now, and she'll grow into using it more and more in the future far more interactive than workbook pages and far more comprehensive than any other kit I've found!

This review is after playing with it one time. These are my first impressions. Well thought out, designed, executed. The rubber is thick, doesn't feel like it's going to tear. The cards are a laminated/coated paper that should hold up well If you have a rough kid though, they WILL bend, but not under normal use. There are an assortment of different rubber cards with pictures, number, words on them. There are foam puzzle pieces with the numerals on them. There are cards with blanks/pluses/equal signs/ etc, and you put the correct numbers into the blanks to make the sum, etc. You can mix and match. For instance, you can use 2 apples+3 apples=5 apples, or you can then take away the 3 apples and have them put in the cards with 3 balloons. When they're done couting the pictures, have them put the correct numeral underneath so you have both numerals and pictorials showing the same equation. It's fun. My 4-year old had a good time playing with it. It comes in a little box with 2 drawers, which makes it convenient, but I might take them out of that anyway. I think it's a tad pricey for what you get. Any determined parent could probably make a set like this for super cheap out of cardboard, print out some different pictures, draw plus signs and blank squares on a sheet of paper, and you're done. Or spend a few dollars and buy wood planks and glue everything on top. Knowing how cheap it is to make a few sheets of rubber with pictures on them, perforate them into squares, and laminate some blank cards I think this product could be about $10 cheaper. I'll update in a few months once I determine durability and staying power.

We have had this for several months and it is a great activity to fill about half an our with. I did make some little cards to go with it for when you add things that are 10 to 20 as the set doesn't come with them. There is so much to do we get the box and he pics whichever activity he wants. When he was about 3 and 3 months the patterning was too hard but there were other things he could do. He will be 4 in 2 months and. He can do about 3/4s of the activities. I did worry that it's not a "game" but he enjoys it. I've used cheese cubes or blueberries as "prizes" for the one who c completes there puzel first (me or him) which makes him more motivated. It gives some practice with letters because of the spelled numbers (I spell the number he is looking for and he finds the card) I think we use this about 2 hours a week from when I bought it and have a lot of fun with it still so I think it's worth the money despite not having numbers up to 20 (which are only needed in 1 activity) and my box was a little squished too.

The kit comes with counting foam pieces, counting cards (which I think are a great idea to get your child to recognize that the symbol "1" represents one item), addition/subtraction cards, and a custom card. Overall a very well put together set.

Cons: The box was a little smooshed down in the middle, making it slightly difficult to close the top drawer, but it still worked.

I really was hoping that there would be some more materials for things that my son is struggling with counting by 2s/5s/10s, and understanding very basic set theory (i.e. "20" is "2" sets of "10"). I feel those are important concepts to understand rather than just memorizing counting to 100, but I'm not sure how to teach them on my own, and it's possible my son is just too young to learn these concepts (he's almost 5).

Overall I'd recommend the set, although I do feel it's pricey for what you get
