I'm a huge sid fan. I love their shows and having the experiments to go with them make it all the more fun. Great for teaching a homeschooler science (or just for fun).

Sid the Science Kids Why Do I need A Jacket? Review
This is an amazing educational tool for little kids! While I'm still a fan of the magic school bus myself, Sid the Science Kid is one of THE hot PBS kids shows right now. Kids love it because it's fun and answers their everyday questions, parents love it because, well, it answers kids everyday questions about science and the world! Great for encouraging curiosity and exploring the natural world!

I was pleased with the detail, but would have been more impressed if the planets were in a more reliable case, rather than the flimsy plastic case.
It was received with an outburst of enthusiasm and made this grandpa very happy to witness this. I was also pleased to see that he quickly noticed that there were eight planets, instead of the nine that he expected. He had picked up on that somewhere, either through a book or perhaps a TV show. Scary smart this one is, then we had to explain why there is no Pluto. That's not as easy as it may sound.
And to my profound relief it stated that this product is phthalate-free. No, I have no idea what that is either. Sounds pretty important though. I sure hope no phthalate was injured in the production.
We plan to make a mobile from this. I think that is pretty cool because it will always be within sight and not crammed into a toy box to be seen only once in a while. It's also something I wish I had when I was a kid.

I ORDER THIS FOR MY SONS SCHOOL PROJECT, I DIDN'T WANT TO MAKE THE PLANETS SO I THOUGHT JUST BUYING THEM WAS EASIER FOR ME AND HIM, I RECEIVED THEM FAST, ALL THE PLANETS HAVE THEIR NAMES ON, THEY ARE SMALLER THAN WHAT I THOUGHT BUT THAT'S FINE, I DON'T THINK IS A GOOD TOY FOR KIDS BECAUSE THE PLANETS ARE VERY SMALL AND ANY KID CAN CHOKE ON THEM.Best Deals for Safari Ltd The Solar System Science Kit
Arrived in a timely manner, only three days. A bit smaller than I expected even though there isn't anything in the description concerning size. I like good close-ups but sometimes they give a false impression of size. But that's going to work out for the 3-year old recipient that's continually asking questions about outer space and the planets. Good quality and painted nicely, with maybe Mercury being an exception. Mercury is painted greyish and I always assumed its proximity to the sun would make it red, but what do I know?It was received with an outburst of enthusiasm and made this grandpa very happy to witness this. Discount Brain Quest Play'n Learn Numbers Card Game
I love that the game is very versatile. The instructions have two different options for the different games that can be played using this set. I also read reviews where a very creative dad had thought up a few other games. I like knowing that this game will grow with my daughter and right now she likes the match option. She likes counting the number of things on the cards and I feel like we'll enjoy this game for years to come.

She was thrilled when she opened the package , unfortunately I was not there to see her face. Daughter says she doesn't want to put it down. She is 3 years old. Her sis is a little jealous.

Cheap Wee Gallery Art Flash Cards for Baby - Pets Collection
My little guy loved these when he was 1 to 3 months old. He eventually lost interest, but there was a period of time when the only thing that would stop his crying was to set one of these cards in his crib to look at. I would also prop them up in his stroller bassinet when we went for walks. He would look at them and flail his arms to his heart's content for 10 minutes at a time, on occasion. They worked so well that I bought them as gifts for other friends who were expecting.

I purchased 3 different sets. My daughter has enjoyed these from the 3 months on. She is now 8 months, still enjoys them, and they are even holding up to her constantly putting them in her mouth. Plus they are great for the diaper bag since they don't take up a lot of room.Best Deals for Wee Gallery Art Flash Cards for Baby - Pets Collection
These cards are great for tummy time! I just put them up and she stares at them while she's doing tummy time! It's a great way for her to strengthen her vision. They are very sturdy as well. I know they will stand up to her banging them around once she gets older.Honest reviews on Wee Gallery Art Flash Cards for Baby - Pets Collection

Discount Fascinations Antworks Illuminated with Green
I got htis for my 2 year old girl who was facinated by ants outside. The gel is perfect since they can drop the ants and all is well. The top is secure and they can get it off )at least the little kids). She has dropped it really hard and it cracked but only visibly, you cant feel the crack and the unit is still just fine. She loves to carry it around with her and watches it constantly. Perfect gift!!! I ordered from life studies.com and ordered the ants for $5 at the same time, they came very quickly and all alive. I think if you ordered separately it would take forever and the kids would have to wait. They start tunneling within a day or so and is really cool to watch.
"green ingredients" that we worked around. The bottom had caked so there was a gap where the ants seemed to make a easy home instead of tunneling.
Even with all this (and i would hope yours came with softer and newer ingredients) it was a great learning experience and something for the whole family to watch. It has been 4 months now and we are still watching these smart little creatures work and exist but will let them go in a few weeks to make a new home in the wild.

After reading numerous reviews on all the ant farms out there, I decided on this green Antworks farm. I'm so glad I did! I picked the color green because it is my son's favorite color-got it for our 9 year old son for Christmas and after only 5 days, the ants have connected some tunnels and are very active. We keep it on our kitchen counter because everyone in the household is interested in watching them. The LED light is great and makes it easier to see the activity and the ants-I would definitely recommend it even though it cost more for the light. I ordered the ants through Antsalive-they had an option for the ants to arrive a little before Christmas or a little after. I picked after and they arrived just 3 or 4 days after Christmas in a tube, all alive. It has been a great, educational experience. It is smaller than the large sand antfarm my brothers had when I was growing up. But I really like the gel instead of sand and my son doesn't know the difference. He is so proud of it and likes to show it off-he thinks it is "so cool!". It has more of a curved futuristic look to it, you can see the ants from all sides and through the top. I would like to get the Antworks multiple farms that connect together, now that I know first hand how great a product it is.Best Deals for Fascinations Antworks Illuminated with Green
We loved the gel ant farm! It was so much fun for adults and children alike to watch as the ants began digging within the first 24 hours and making connections from tunnel to tunnel throughout the week. Even now that the are done "building", it is still fun to watch them moving throughout the tunnels. I would highly recommend this to anyone -young or old. It is especially neat to watch at night as the underlying lights illuminate the whole thing and make it fun to watch both day and night.Honest reviews on Fascinations Antworks Illuminated with Green
This is a fun toy with a great learning experience. It is more difficult to work than a older child can usually do. Our kit came with older dried"green ingredients" that we worked around. The bottom had caked so there was a gap where the ants seemed to make a easy home instead of tunneling.

I was a little hesitant to get this for my 7 year old, but after reading the reviews I was convinced to give it a try. This has been a delight to watch for the whole family. We have been taking pictures of the ants progress and watching them work. It is so amazing. It has been 5 days and they have built through out the whole farm already. Although the harvester ants do sting....you will not need to come in contact with them. When we ordered the ants, they came in a vile and they were practically frozen and they weren't moving. So we waited for them to start wiggling around a bit and then dumped them in. The lid is air tight and it is very hard to get the lid open. I doubt my son could get it open. Not that he even wants to. Everyone should do this at least once in their childs life. It is truly fascinating....Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Discount Rhyming Pocket Flash Cards
My students would get excited when I would bring these cards out. I used them to teach rhyme, initial sounds, middle sounds and ending soundes. I like them, but don't let your students mangle them. First graders can be kind of rough on things like this.

Cheap Lamaze My First Fishbowl
I purchased this for my 5 month old and from the minute she saw the package she was in love with it. It was the one toy she always liked to play with until she was about 14 months old. For nine months it was her favorite toy and I really like it as well. The fish are colorful and interesting to look at, each one makes a different sound and babies love taking things out and then putting things back into the bowl. I liked this so much I bought one for my nephew as well. This is one toy I will be keeping in case we have another child.

I bought this for my 6 month old cousin for Christmas. My 11 month old daughter has liked playing with this toy since she was 6 months old. She likes to take the fish out of the bowl and put them back in. Great for motor skills. The water filled sides of the fish bowl are fasinating to her too. Mom likes this toy too because it doesnt make any noise.Best Deals for Lamaze My First Fishbowl
This is a cute product but definitely not as cool as what is pictured and described. There is no trapped water; the sides are just plain plastic. I ended up returning it because without the water-trapped sides I felt it was pretty overpriced.Honest reviews on Lamaze My First Fishbowl
A friend ordered this for me off my Wishlist, and there is no water, water stains, nothing to indicate it's the same item exactly as the box and Amazon describes. Just a single layer or clear plastic on either side of the fishbowl definitely intentional and not a defect. I was VERY disappointed and in a way feel cheated. I guess my infant will not know the difference but the water should have been in the item, or Amazon should have doen a better job QC'ing their products! Still love Amazon though!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Lamaze My First Fishbowl
The pictures of this toy are incorrect, there is no water-filled sides with sea creatures in it. Without that feature it is nowhere near as cute, and we never would have requested it as a gift for our infant. The pictures must be out of date for this item.Friday, August 15, 2014
Discount SmartLab Toys ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover
Great product! 12 yr twins each have one and they love it. Very educational and fun. We received one that the voice/speaker didn't not work very well on. Notified SmartLab and they responded quickly to let us know that item was on backorder, but as soon as they received one, they would send it out and include prepaid postage for us. We received a call earlier than expected letting us know they would be sending a replacement out. We received the replacement w/n a week. The replacement had been tested to assure it was working properly. They also told us to keep the old one. Great company to work with SmartLabs will definitely be ordering from them again. The great customer service they provided is hard to find these days. Was very impressed with the company.
When I was a kid I had a phase where I absolutely convinced that I needed a robot. I wasn't sure how a robot was going to help me, but I just KNEW that having a robot would make my life better. I thought a robot would be a nice alternative to a dog... with less mess.
The Smart Lab Recon 6.0 Programmable Rover is a pretty slick robot it takes a bit of time but it can be programmed to do a variety of tasks. It is not a perfect robot it is a bit slow and cumbersome to program, but for any science savvy kid will have a field day!
Notes-
Programming The Recon 6.0 must be programmed directly from a touch pad. Programming requires you to scroll through a series menus and saving settings... in some ways it is kind of like programming an old VCR. A remote control would make the process much simpler or possibly an ipod/iphone/ipad interface.... but we are left the touchpad... it seems circa 1999.
Batteries Requires 3 C batteries. I say this because C batteries seem to be going extinct and I didn't have three C batteries in my entire house (this is surprising because we use lots of batteries).
Speed The Recon 6.0 is not exactly fast you can see it in the video
Driving ability the plus is that it works well on carpet, rugs, and all surfaces the negative is that doesn't seem to always track correctly. You can see it in the video that the Recon 6.0 isn't always precise in its turns.
Educational Value The educational value is pretty high.... in many ways... it will help kids lean to map out routes based in inches, feet, and turning angles. It also helps children learn the iterative process required for programming. One step leads to the next... and so on. The programming can be a bit of a challenge but if the child has a little persistence they should be able to master it.
Other features the Recon 6.0 can be programmed to turn on its lights, speak voice commands, and even deliver soda cans!
Final Verdict At this price point I do expect a few more features, and I wish it was better calibrated for turning (right out of the box), but any technology savvy child will really enjoy the Recon 6.0 by Smart Lab

My children were excited to try out the ReCon Rover. We have found no flaws with it. It works as advertised. My sons only complaint is that it is slow. The kids enjoy taking turns programming it to move around the house. My son is 14 and was able to work the ReCon Rover on his own. My only issues it that the neatest has worn off and I have not seen my children use the toy again.Best Deals for SmartLab Toys ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover
I really wanted to like this product. It seems to be riddled with bugs. If you don't remember to power it down with the switch underneath the robot it will eat through batteries in less than a day. Took me 2 sets of batteries to figure that out. Our 9 year old son still doesn't have the habit. The screen also blanks out randomly while programming. I don't think the one I received is defective I just think it has some bugs. Too bad because it's really cool looking and my son was excited to received it as a gift. Maybe they will fix the bugs with version 7.0 but right now I would not recommend this product to anyone. Ours just sits on a shelf.Honest reviews on SmartLab Toys ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover
I thought this was something my 7 year old boy could do himself. It requires heavy programing and adult assistance. My son thought it would be all voice and remote control activated. He wants to do it himself, but it requires a lot of reading of codes and too many instructions--I even got overwhelmed. I made my husband help him. I think it would be better for an older computer programing loving child.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for SmartLab Toys ReCon 6.0 Programmable Rover

HABA Click Clack Rattle Clutching toy Review
My son thinks this is just the best toy! He loves the tiny mirror and likes to watch the beads spin around as he shakes his hand. Perfect size for tiny hands. A favorite of the baby rattles. It is a beautiful little toy, my 5 month old doesnt play with it too much yet although she likes it, because she needs to use both hands to hold it and make it shake. She swats it around with one hand and tries to pick it up, definitly a good developmental toy she will play with it more soon and develope coordination.

Step 2 Sizzlin' Shapes Kitchen Reviews
we bought it for a friend with a small floor plan. the friend enjoyed it and her daughter is very happy.
Although, now that she is almost 2, I think she plays with it a little more. She cracks me up with some of the things I find tucked into the microwave or in the refrigerator. She enjoys putting things in the sink and refrigerator and watching them tumble out and the shape sorter is a great. Her favorite thing about it, naturally, is thedifferent noises it makes.
Overall, a nice product from a good company. I would have given it 5 stars if it held my daughter's attention a little bit more, but I think it just depends on your kid.

Gave as gift to granddaughter at 16 months old. This is the first toy she runs to when she visits every time for the past year. She is now almost 2 1/2 and is getting too big for it but still loves it. What she loves the most are the electronic sounds -the sizzle when she sets a pan on the burner and the water sound when she pushes button on sink faucet. I've been looking for a bigger kitchen and am disappointed that I cannot find a larger kitchen with the water sound feature. The only thing disappointing with the kitchen is the refrigerator -the shelves are barely there and round so that nothing can sit on them and therefore is useless. But, this doesn't matter to granddaughter because she is happy using the stovetop, sink, and microwave.Honest reviews on Step 2 Sizzlin' Shapes Kitchen
