My daughter, who is 5, got a TAG reader over a year ago and seemed to lose interest in it quickly. This set comes with one tag book (and 3 sticker sheets) to be used with the tag reader and 4 workbooks that use regular pen/pencil which is shown on the cover of the images of each of the books but may not be completely clear.

This set is great for older pre-school to kindergarten age children and the stickers which all produce sounds when you touch them with the tag reader. They can also be placed multiple times although only about 2 times before they start to rip and lose their adhesive.

Overall I think this is a set that will both entertain and teach pre-school to kindergarten age children and you get a good value in the set for the price.

We are big fans of Leapfrog products. My 7 year old is an avid reader and the tag pen really helped her get some supplemental assistance. We got our 3 year old one last year and she has loved everything about it. We received this title for her 4th birthday recently. The book itself is stellar as usual. I was more disappointed with the 3 workbooks included. I know she HAS TO WRITE with a pencil eventually but that's not what I thought I was paying for. I have paper and pencils already. The three workbooks are for pencil only and that was disappointing for the little one who wanted all of them to "talk". I think the stickers help but I would rather have had more practice sheets that worked with the tag pen for the price I paid. I have all the intentions of providing her with writing material myself. So for that I gave it only 4 stars. I should have read closer.

Review of Ultimate Geodes Science Kit

The box has 15 little geodes from 1 to 1.5 in. in diameter in a bag, the plastic safety glasses and a glossy, illustrated booklet that explains how geodes came into existence and their various types.

The actual fun is the breaking of geodes to reveal the crystals inside and this is where I am deducting half a star. While this is a very interesting activity, it's also something that children, especially children from ages 6-12 simply can't do on their own. The rocks were not easy to break and, as hard as she tried, our 9 yr. old armed with a hammer and a chisel could barely scratch the surface. Our 15 and 16 yr. olds found the rocks difficult to break as well yes, anyone can smash rocks with a big hammer but the goal is to only crack them into 2 halves, 3 (thirds) at most.

Our first session lasted more than an hour and it consisted of reading the 8-page booklet and then the kids and myself worked on breaking the rocks open. Once a geode was successfully cracked we would spend some time trying to identify it using the booklet as our guide, then admire than crystal formations inside. We cracked 8 out of the 15 provided rocks, saving the rest for a second session. I don't know if it was luck but most of the geodes we opened were quite interesting, including a very nice Amethyst geode, some containing nice and clear Quartz crystals and some with smaller crystals but arranged in interesting formations.

This can be a fun and educational activity for as long as the geode-cracking part is left to the grownups.

I love toys that are educational as well as fun. When I received an offer to test two science kits from Dr. Cool I jumped on that chance. Geodes kit was my first choice, and I was really looking forward to it as I have a fondness for rocks and wanted to share it with the kids. I really thought I would love this kit. However this kit left us frustrated. We (me and two teenagers) had very hard time cracking the rocks. After a fairly long attempt at each geode I was able to open just two.

I am attaching a collage of two photos that I will be referring to in this review.

Photo #1 shows the entire content of the kit next to the ruler so you can see the relative size of the geodes. The kit includes 15 geodes and eye protection glasses. The kit requires you use your own tools: a hammer and a chisel.

The guide gave us two methods for cracking the geodes: the chisel method and the sock method.

Method 1: Before cracking the geodes the instruction said to score the geodes so they would break along that line. We did not have a chisel and use a big screw and a screw driver to score the stone. Perhaps the lack of the proper chisel explains the difficulty in cracking the geodes. After scoring the geodes we tried tapping them with a screwdriver positioned on the scoring line. Kids could not open any, I was able to crack just a couple. Photo #2 shows the opened geode with white crystals on the inside.

Method 2: Putting a geode into a sock (to prevent small pieces flying around) and hitting it with hammer with more force than method #1. This method did not open any geodes.

I wish the kit included a chisel as this is not a common tool like a hammer, and it might have made a difference if we had it.

This is potentially a very neat toy, my recommendation is to have a strong adult present. Clearly, I was not up to par on this. We plan to try again with more muscle power present.

Best Deals for Ultimate Geodes Science Kit

I bought a few different sets of Geodes for my kids for Christmas. These were by far the best quality Geodes and they were larger than I expected them to be. Each one cracked open to reveal a large cavity with great crystals. They took some effort to open but the results were great. We used some books I bought as well as the included pamphlet to identify the type of crystals. They have added these to their rock collection. This was much more fun then just buying the already cut rock samples as they got to do this themselves.

This Ultimate Geodes Science Kit is without a doubt one of the coolest science related sets for kids! We are science enthusiasts and enjoy doing educational project so this Geode kit was a fit for us.

The kit includes 15 unopened Geodes, a glossy manual, and safety goggles. The glossy instruction book is packed full of details on how geodes are formed and is very informative. The geodes range in size from about 1.5" to 2.5" in diameter and most can indeed be broken open by children in the target age range (6 and up). We place the geodes into a thick plastic freezer bag (see video) and we all enjoyed opening them with a hammer (not included), with "Whack it again!" as a common encouragement! The inclusion of plastic safety goggles was a nice touch and very responsible of the kit maker.

Out of 15 geodes, we were able to open 14 of them without much effort and the last one was able to be opened by me with a very heavy hammer. The crystals inside ranged from fairly small to impressively nice, but all of them were good looking and definitely worth having.

This is a great family activity that teaches important geological information and gives you a lasting, pretty reminder in the form of the opened geodes.

My Mom had bought the v.reader for both my boys for Christmas, they absolutely love it. Of the 4 games/books that we have and the one that came with it, my oldest so chooses this one the most. He loves the story, and the games to go with it. I love it because being a busy mom, and wife I don't have time to read every time he ask to read, so he loves this in place of mom reading to him sometimes!! I bought this at a huge discount off the usual Amazon price, from their 'Warehouse,' and at that much lower price I feel like I got my money's worth. Pay attention to the 'specs' for this item -even though the product description says "large," you are *not* buying a full size globe! I knew what to expect there, so no unpleasant surprises in that regard; this makes a nice little side-table decorative/conversation item for an office. The base feels good and solid, has nice weight to it, and does not wobble while sitting on a table. The craftsmanship is not top-shelf, however; the globe itself is lightweight, with the mapping appearing to consist of paper glued to a thicker paper/cardboard ball. One thing, for example, that I noticed was that where one seam ran down the globe, the letters in "North" and "America," with some of each word on each side of the seam, did not line up correctly to the extent that the last few letters in each word looked like subscript. In addition, the globe will not spin very smoothly on its axis, perhaps due to the materials used in the sphere itself. Nonetheless, for the purpose I intend, mostly decorative as opposed to close examination and/or any kind of regular use, this product is quite appropriate and satisfactory -at the price I paid.

the book was perfect for an art idea of mine since i needed a blank book to pull them off. it was a little smaller than i expected at 28 pages but that really isn't much of a problem depending on what you plan to do with the book. the first one i ordered a while ago was clean but the second one looked like it got stepped on or dropped on the floor or something (again not much of a problem because the cover's going to be painted anyway). I still don't really see how this is a toy, it catches me more as an art supply with all the ideas i have, but i guess it wouldn't be half bad for a kid's craft because the book is durable and easy to work with. If you're going to do any art that involves books, this a good choice.

My daughter is creating a non-stop flow of literature which she's begun binding using 3 ring binders and other office supplies. When I surprised her with these pre-bound white books, she was thrilled. Instead of make-shift books, she feels like she's really creating works of literature. As she gets older, she'll need thicker books but these are perfect now. Great quality.

I purchased this blank book to compose and illustrate and children's-book-style robot love story for my boyfriend's birthday. It's exactly what it claims itself to be, with 14 8.5" x 11" pages and a hard cover. The quality was satisfactory, and the pages were relatively thick (if I was careful, I could use marker/sharpie and it wouldn't bleed through). Great book, and I have no complaints about it!

I ordered two of these books for a college project I'm doing. The aim was to create a client-directed children's book, educating about proper ownership of a particular pet. The book contains more than enough pages for what I needed, and the blank cover allowed me to be as creative as I wanted. The books are a bit larger than I expected, but that's not a problem. I printed my text and graphics onto full-sheet Avery labels, cut them out with an X-acto knife, and stuck 'em on the pages. It's not professional, but it will work for what I need them for. And at this price? You can't beat it.

I did read the prior reviews, but I'm a sucker for cute wooden toys and I figured they couldn't be *that* small. Well, they are. They'll be outgrown by your baby pretty fast. To give you an idea, everything easily fits in the palm of my hand and the stick is about the size and width of a fat pen. If I'd seen them at a store I would have passed unless they were a lot cheaper. I give the product 3 stars because they're cute and seem well made, but I'm just not happy about what you get for the money.

Overall this is an "okay" zippered case that's stiff and molded to fit the LeapPad Ultra. The only thing I like about it is the cartridge holder, which is really why I bought this. However, the LeapPad will fall out if you're not careful. I'm not sure why LeapFrog didn't fix this, because this was the same issue with the previous case for the LeapPad 2. Older kids can open the case and take the LeapPad out without it falling to the floor, but younger children will have an issue with this. As it is, I had to tell my son to lay it flat on his lap and open it slowly, or open it on the floor. Most of the time I just get it out for him. Really needs a velcro strap across the middle. LeapFrog, if you're reading this, please consider this addition. I am going to sew one in mine. The LeapPad Ultra is so heavy it falls out easily. On a side note: the LeapPad Ultra will fit with a Gel Skin.

I never bought this kind of case with the LeapPad or the LeapPad 2 because I had heard nothing but bad reviews, the main one being the zippers were really hard to zip. So when the LeapPad Ultra came out, I was bummed to see that there were no other carrying cases available. Knowing I needed a case, I ordered it anyways. I'm so glad I did. They seem to be made better than the ones for the original LeapPads. The zipper is easy for my children to open by themselves. It hold 6 games (more if you don't mind putting two games in one holder. We have the first four of the leappad phonics books as well as a whole bunch of other leappad books. My son who is beginning to read quite well at 4 doesn't usually play with the phonics books for too long but he really liked Book #4 especially the games at the end. What is quite tremendous is that where he had no real concept of spelling with the letter "u" before, he now spells with it all the time.

This guitar is PERFECT for what I needed. I'm a music teacher who has suddenly found herself on the "cart" and I wanted an affordable, lovely sounding, easy to play travel guitar...and that's exactly what this is! I tried out the Baby Taylor, the Little Martin...both kinds, the Martin Backpacker, the Little Brat, and the Yamaha. I really love the Baby Taylor, but at that price, I just didn't feel comfortable leaving in the storage at work or letting the kids touch it so I took a chance and bought the Luna Muse sight unseen. I'm so thrilled! The sound is very similar to the Little Brat, though I personally think the highs on the Luna are more pleasant than the Brat. The action is a touch high, but is easily adjustable. The guitar is also smaller than the Brat which has a considerably thicker body. The guitar is beautiful looking and cleanly made. I don't know what the previous reviewer is saying about the frets on the neck...mine are perfectly smooth...it was the first thing I checked.

No, not as fine as the Baby Taylor, but worth considerably more than I paid. This is in the same price range as the Yamaha, and it absolutely blows the Yamaha out of the water in both the quality of its make and the sound! 100% happy that I purchased this guitar.

I just received this guitar today and have the following comments on it. Keep in mind that this is a $139 3/4 size guitar. The overall quality looks very good. Nice straight neck, satin finish great all over, inside nice and clean, no glue, tuners are average, the action is a little high, the strings suck. The only negative is that the frets are not dressed well and has sharp edges all the way up neck... A pet peeve of mine. I hate to buy a new guitar and get one with sharp frets. Will take a file to them for sure. Sound is above average for this small size guitar. Has good sustain. Feels good in the hand. I have had both the Baby Taylor and Little Martin and they all compare in size with this guitar. Both of these guitars cost twice that of this guitar. This Luna is lightweight like the Taylor. I think that the Baby Taylor is a better sounding guitar.. but only slightly. This guitar has a 1-13/16" nut which I like. The Luna gigbag is cheap and I think will provide almost no protection. I guess Luna has to cut corners somewhere. This will be a perfect guitar for noodling around the house, sitting on the sofa, campfire, etc. Overall rating is 4/5 and would have been 5/5 if frets were better. If you are looking for a smaller guitar check this one out for sure. I think the value on this guitar should be closer to the $200-$250 range so $139 to me is a real deal.

I just recently purchased the Luna Muse Safari 3/4 Travel Guitar from amazon.com. The guitar arrived in perfect condition. The factory carton was packed in a ginormous box with plenty of packing material around it. Initially the guitar tuning was not stable but after a couple of days of being in my house the tuning stabilized to be rock solid. The action is perfect to me, not too high, not too low. The scale is sufficiently long enough so that I don't notice a difference moving back and forth between in and my full size dreadnaught. The workmanship is very good. The frets are finished nicely and the body has a nice satin finish. The guitar is plenty small enough to make travel easy but large enough to play normally like any full size guitar. The gig bag, while not padded, is reasonably well made and will be fine for car traveling. For airline travel I would invest in a padded gig bag. Not only will I used this guitar for travel I will also use it when jamming with friends when I want to add some unique tones. I found that using when using a capo fairly high on the neck you get some really neat mandolin-like tones.

hi i'm a teacher and i have tendonitis in my elbows... i gave up guitar a few years ago due to pain.

however, i've often thought about maybe someday purchasing a light hiking guitar which would be less heavy/tough on my elbows. so i was just looking around...

i found this and thought i'd try it... took the risk. so worth it.

oh my! i'm playing guitar again, a LOT! when i carry it over my shoulders/back, it is so LIGHT that i barely know i have it it does not hurt my elbows when i put it in the car or take it out... nor when i play...

and the sound quality is beautiful! and it doesn't lose its tune more than a normal guitar with new strings.

i LOVE this guitar! it has brought music back into my everyday life, helped me make learning fun for my students, and i'm so grateful.

I received this well over a week ago. I have been playing it every day since. The strings that came on it sounded fine to me, but I threw on some extra heavy DR Black Beauty acoustics. The little guitar really does sound nice! The DR coated strings really feel great on the fingers. The action at the nut is a little high. I like to grab open F chords, and that can be difficult with the action so high.... I adjusted the truss rod all the way to where the action is at it's lowest, and it's still a little high. I think a little lowering at the nut will make it perfect! I'm not upset about that because it's a good deal for the money. It does sound a little "tinny", or "boxy"? at times, but to me it adds to the appeal. I like the sound of it. I did notice that it's very easy to deaden the tone of the guitar just by having the back of the body against your stomach. Strum a chord and touch the back to your stomach. You will hear a definite muting effect. However, this can be used to change the tonality of songs during playing if done correctly. I didn't notice rough edges on the frets, but there was a coating of some sort on them that was a little rough... It seemed like corrosion, but I couldn't tell. I just used a tiny wedge of balled up aluminum foil to polish the tops of them when I changed strings, and they are smooth as butter now.

I'm not too concerned about appearance. However, this little guitar looks great. I like how it's understated and simple looking. It's sound hole design is simple and pretty. No flashiness on this guitar, which is the way I like it.

Yep, the gig bag is kinda flimsy, so I got a more padded one for traveling. No big deal. The one it comes with is good enough for dragging it around in normal situations though, and it fits right into the padded one I have, so if need be, I can use both.

Overall, I couldn't have asked for a better deal. And, like others have said..... This is the guitar I play all the time now. It's just too easy to carry around, and fits well in the lap for noodling and relaxing, even in an armchair. Intonation is spot on, as I tested it with a Snark clip-on tuner. I was hoping for a bit slimmer of a neck, especially at the nut (even though I have big hands), but I am not altogether put off by it. So we've only had this a few days so far, but my buckle obsessed 16 month old hardly puts down her new little turtle. She's figured out how to buckle some of the easier buckles and seems to be starting to understand that she needs to match up the colors. At this point, I leave two of more difficult buckles on the belly closed so that she doesn't get too frustrated and to make it more obvious for her which buckles match up. I hope the toy holds up over time, as I can see her giving this little guy quite a workout. The lining on the pocket on the back could be better, it's too loose and gets stuck with she attempts to zip it up. And a couple of the buckles could use just a little more slack in my opinion. But all in all quite satisfied and was not surprised by those couple of shortcomings, as other reviews had warned me of those.

My toddler asks for Bucky by name. She plays with him for long stretches of time (20+ minutes, which is a long time for a toddler). He's cute, cuddly and entertaining and even though he says to spot wash him, I threw him in the washer and he came out fine.
