This is basically a heavyweight cardboard tube with a long metal spring attached to the bottom. When you shake the tube, the sound is amplifies and resonates, making booming "thunder" sounds. A range of other sounds can also be created by running fingers along the spring.

It is a simple invention, but strangely addictive people young and old like to pick it up and play with it.

It is also surprisingly durable. I've had one for over 10 years, and it is still in great shape. In that time, it has been a classroom staple, gone to adult trainings and business meetings, been featured in a couple of elementary school plays, been loaned out for a "haunted house" fundraiser, and is often played with by kids at home. I bought the thing on a whim to get kids' attention in the classroom (MUCH cooler than a bell or whistle!) but have been surprised by all of the other uses that we've found for it.

I recently purchased the tie-dye version as a unique gift for an eleven-year-old girl. It will fill a basket with a tin of "thinking putty", a set of "jelly marbles" and a few other fun science toys. I must say, it is great for the person who has everything, especially if that person likes to make noise!

I bought one of these thunder tubes for my son, who's a percussionist. It makes reallly cool (and somewhat eerie) sounds. During dog-training class someone mentioned her dog is terrified of thunder, so I bought a second one for my trainer. She likes to condition the dogs to all kinds of sounds so they won't bark or run when they hear noises. She bangs on buckets, puts metal stuff in a shopping cart and wheels it around, and sometimes even fires a cap-gun to simulate the sound of firecrackers. The thunder tube has been a great addition to her noisemakers, and everyone likes playing with it. It's been about a month since it arrived, and the dogs seem to be getting comfortable with the sound. Hopefully it will help them be less reactive to our next thunderstorm!!

I was a bit skeptical as to how this would sound, especially since I had never heard of a thunder tube until I saw it here on Amazon the other day. So I ordered it, thinking, it's not very expensive, so why not try it? The tie-dye is a bit cheesy I'd rather it be a solid color, and I'm sure I could have gotten that, if I wanted to pay more.

That said, this thing sounds amazing! it can be very soft or very LOUD, depending on how you shake it. Rubbing the spring that hangs down creates some cool sounds as well. We like that one good shake creates a nice robust "gong" sound. So now we have a gong without actually buying a gong! lol

My 3 year old loves this toy. We bring this in the car or to the restaurant for my son to play with. Since he got it for Christmas, he has finally started to learn phonics which I had previously tried teaching him using flashcards. Like the other posters have mentioned, this toy's music doesn't drive me crazy. It's easier on the nerves than most. The toy has many features including a game in which children are either given the letter name or the sound and asked to locate the corresponding letter. It keeps score so you can monitor progress. The music option lets them play the alphabet song providing they hit the letter keys in order from left to right (like reading). Great toy! I would have rated it 6 stars had that been possible. We've had lots of electronic toys, but this has been mine and my son's favourite. LeapFrog toys are superior.

My niece is two and loves this toy. She plays for hours at a time and likes to mimic the sounds. I always buy educational toys and feel that Leapfrog has toys for all ages and children learn as they play. How can you beat that? I bought this for my 2 1/2 year old for Christmas and have really enjoyed watching her play with it. She sings the alphabet song along with it, which is a treat for me. My 5 year old nephew who is a special needs child also loves this toy, and loves the Letter Sounds mode. It has been dropped down a flight of stairs already and is still working perfectly. The option to turn the sound down is also great. Anyone who has kids knows that the most annoying thing is to hear a toy all the time, and when this is turned down it is definately manageable, and not nearly as distracting.

Ok, my wife purchased the leap frog alpha-pet explorer from a used toy shop (At least that's where we get most of the kids toys, almost brand new, half the price). My boy loved it. Played with it for the first six months constantly. I had some individuals (mainly his speech therapist) state it should be used in moderation, and I agree. However, my son might not be talking as much as other children but he sure knows his alphabet. Ask him to bring some of his fridge phonics letters over (made by the same company) and he can do it by the letters name or sound (he could do this by age two). Would I use this toy as they only thing to teach the alphabet to my son? NO! Do I find it useful in moderation and to supplement other learning methods? Yes!!

*As a side note I have done a fair amount of research into early reading programs, and have had much better results with phonic based material.

My son received this as a gift when he was not quite two years old. He liked playing around with it right away but was really only able to play with two of the modes the music and the one that just tells you the letter. Now that he's nearing 3 year old he plays with this literally every day. He'll sit for 15 minutes (or more) at once playing with this. And he's clearly learning his letters and the sounds they make. Now he plays all the games on it and is learning about how to make his name out of letters. He enjoys it and it has been a great learning tool for him.

I like it because on the lower volume (which, lucky for me my son will leave it at) it doesn't annoy me in the slightest. Most noise-making toys annoy me too much.

this is a great little toy – perfect for little hands!

the tail, middle and head of this alligator twist, making a cool clicking noise. my baby loves it. and i love that it'll grow with her, too. to start, it's just really cute – with lots of different textured fabrics and little tabs along the alligator's spine. and as her fine motor skills develop she'll be able to twist it herself, too. it's a sweet baby toy but it doesn't feel as baby-ish as others that they outgrow so quickly do. i think this one will be in rotation for a long time!

this would also make a really adorable gender-neutral baby gift! i always love having a few good go-to ideas to get for showers... this is a great option!

I bought this toy for attach to the rainforest gym, because of the contrast colors white red and black that are very impressive for little babies,

My 3 month old baby also have a genetical syndrome so is more difficult to her do some things, but she love the bear, she looks so much to him and also touch him!

If you squeeze the bear he makes a squeal.

The only think that disappointed me is that he looks cheap, but... baby dont care about this!

A very well done journal if I do say so myself.

The journal came across as being handmade (if it wasnt it has fooled me)

The cover of the journal had some effort put into which shows greatly in the detail and in the skull on the front.

Plus this journal really is 8x10 there is no lie there and there a lot of pages crammed into it so as to write many of lifes memories inside

The pages also add to aura of the journal. Meaning that they are not that simple lined paper. They have that appearance of being handmade as well which is different and rather interesting.

The journal is not refilliable as well. I dont know if that if a problem for some people but I like it for that reason.

One disappointment was that the inside covers seemed to be unfinshed and had that rough, unkept and unfinished look. However that isnt going to sink my boat.

Over all the journal exceded my expectations and is a superb work of effort and intellect. I recommend this for every journaler and those who need a one of a kind "notebook" to collect thoughts and word etc.

Durable, good quality book. I am using mine (so far) as a bourbon tasting journal. I am putting pictures of the bottles on pages and then recording my tasting notes beside.

The leather cover seems to be a strong leather. The pages are soft but, I imagine, will last. Both of my kids think it looks cool.

If your looking for a unique, fun and quality memory book or journal you'll be happy with this one.

A pre-school teacher told me that I had to get this stacker. It didn't look that much different from others in the pictures, but it is incredible in about a hundred ways! First, it wobbles -safer and more fun. Then, each disc is numbered and has that number of objects painted on it -in the color of the next disc!!! Hard to explain but really let's kids figure out patterns and colors. Most fun it that there are three really cute animal heads, so when the kids have done the stacking, they make up little stories about the animals. Mine have even given them each names, and they make up different stories every day. I just saw that this won some awards, and it deserves them!

I believe that I must have received a box that previously returned, as the resistors are in terrible shape. The leads are all bent and twisted, like someone just balled them up in their hand. Based upon the reviews of all other products sold by Joe Knows Electronics, I do not believe that they had anything to do with this mess.

I'm an Electrical Engineer and I've been looking around for a kit of larger 1% resistors for my experiments and stock. I ordered these kits and I am very impressed.

This is a great value, and it saves me from having to select each value to build my own kit, which I was thinking of doing, but didn't have two hours to select through the values and quantities, and all the electronic order nonsense.

I've been an electronic hobbyist for over 40 years, less so in recent years. Along the way, I have amassed quite a collection of parts, including resistors. The problem is that when you need something, it takes too much time to find it. And then, the silver leads are often tarnished requiring cleaning before they can be soldered to. In the end, you may have to go to Radio Shack anyway.

Recently, I've gotten more interested in pursuing my hobby again. When I found this resistor assortment, I decided that it was a good value and would save me a lot of time. The resistors are all sorted by value into separate envelopes and are "1%" er's. In the "old" days, I mostly used "10%" resistors because they were readily available and cheaper. The extra accuracy could be more important for analog applications. Since almost everything I do is digital, I could probably get by with just a few values and less accuracy.

However, there is nothing more frustrating than when I have to stop working on something, no matter what that is, and go hunt for something or go to the store or order. This it at least solves the resistor search problem.

These resistors are great. You get most of the popular sizes and they are packaged in little zip lock bags. I tested a few at random and the tolerance was less than 1%. The problem I have is the color of resistor, which is blue. For me, it's easier to distinguish the color bands on beige resistors. I hope someday all manufacturers print the actual resistance like Vishay.

I purchased this as a replacement for my 3 1/2 year-old daughter's pacifier. She was having an extremely difficult time with the transition but this "chew toy", as she calls it, helped her move on. This is our third time ordering this product! Our son is five and autistic and he loves this chewy! The different textures is great because it gives him different sensory input and offers so many choices in one chewy. The shape is also great because you can attach it to things. We attach it to a retractable key chain so that it is always there when he needs it and we have seen great results. The shipping was very quick as well which we appreciate. A speech therapist friend uses these in her work and discovered they also make great teethers for little ones. Our daughter used it throughout her teething and now, at 2 1/2, she calls it her "bite bite" and asks for it whenever she is tempted to bite something she's not supposed to (usually her older brother). Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I picked this product for my one year old grandson as he loves trucks. We took it out of the box and started it into the gyrations that it can do. Great fun! My grandson was entranced. His eyes never left the truck and he was laughing and couldn't wait to take it out for a spin. The truck engages the child with banter and interactive requests for which it coordinates sounds and gymnastics. I really like this product and rate it very high. I rated it a four star because, the toy has a more limited set of "events" than a $50 item should have in my opinion. What it does, it does very well.

However, this is my CAUTION: Do not let a younger child handle this toy by themselves. My grandson loves to drive his trucks around the house. When you push this truck from behind, there is no stability and this is necessary for the truck to do its flips and such. But for the little one pushing, the truck flips into their face and "bang" a cut lip. We put the truck away for another 6 months to see how he can do with it later. This is not the fault of the vehicle or the manufacturer. It was our fault for not realizing why the age limit was set.

I think that with a couple of more months of walking under his belt, he will be able to play with this truck again. Until the little accident, we thought that we had a tremendous winner for our youngster. I still think that we have a winner, but we will have to wait just a little longer for those smiles.

He just loves the way Chuck moves, talks, tumbles and he can fill his truck up, too. He's pretty cool, actually. He says a ton of phrases and sings! Lucas likes to sing along with him and I find it impressive that he sings faster the faster he moves, neat trick! Lucas loves that he somersaults and flips all around, so of course, being a boy, keeps trying to find ways to put Chuck into predicaments he CAN'T get out of, but he has yet to trick him! It's fun to watch him play with his new truck and go back and forth with it, it keeps him pretty busy for awhile, and not many toys do that with a 3 year old! Highly recommended!

His second birthday featured dumptrucks on his cake so I thought this would be a winner and I was right.

This truck does everything. It spins, does back flips and moves along with the voice. It matches it's speed to the child. He gets so much pleasure out of it. I love to hear him laughing and devising new obstacles for the truck. He thinks it's a little magical. It does so many amazing things.

When I was a child, I played with Tonka trucks made out of durable steel. They came in all sizes. In fact, my parents still have them. They have been stored in their home's attic. When I grew older, I played with remote control toys, mostly race cars. I lost interest in them about twenty-five years ago when I moved to Chesapeake, Virginia. I was excited to receive from the Amazon Vine Program the Tumblin' Chuck from Tonka. I was glad to learn the child in me had never died; he had only become dormant for a little time.

Tumblin' Chuck arrived with demo batteries already installed. However, you may want to put fresh ones in before giving him as a gift because mine weakened quickly with use. I was thrilled to put Tumblin' Chuck through all his moves. (Please watch the short video that I made with my Apple iPhone 4.) He performs the best when he is played with on a hard, flat surface such as the tennis court where I filmed him. He constantly failed to correctly perform his somersaults when I operated him on my apartment's shag carpet and kept asking for my help to upright him.

I think Tumblin' Chuck is adorable and easy to operate. I scanned his operating instructions into my computer, including the instructions for replacing batteries, and posted them to Amazon's website. A close friend of mine, Amy, works at Tiny Tikes Daycare Center. I allowed her children to play with Tumblin' Chuck. She told me most all of the children, including the girls, enjoyed playing with him. The girls thought he was cute. He has a sweet voice (one whose volume cannot be decreased or increased) that matches his face, giving him an unique personality. I expected Tumblin' Chuck to be severely damaged when Amy returned it to me but he still appeared relatively new, except for a few scuff marks on the face.

If your child enjoys playing with dump trucks, then I recommend Tonka's interactive Tumblin' Chuck. It is durable and fun. I especially enjoyed watching him perform his somersaults and "exercises"--push-ups, sit-ups and jumping jacks. Perhaps Tumblin' Chuck will be a good role model for children when it comes to exercising. I received a workout just pushing him across the tennis court and chasing after him with my iPhone. The neighbors must've thought I was crazy. One couple came to play tennis and I was having so much fun that I didn't notice their arrival. After apologizing, I explained to them that I was conducting a review on Tumblin' Chuck for Amazon.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program I have a love, hate relationship with Tumblin' Chuck. My kids love him. So much so, that they routinely fight over their turn with him. The voice and music is annoying, to the point were I don't want to be in the room while the kids play with him even when they aren't fighting over him. And at 3 and 5 years old, the kids can't fully grasp how to make the truck flip over when they want it to.

That said, this truck is extremely durable. It has been thrown down slides and staircases without injury. The kids have attempted to ride it and it still runs well.

While I'm not a fan of this toy at all, it can survive my children and it makes them happy and will probably appeal to other kids their ages.

This is a great educational game/toy for kids exploring shapes! I wish the single shapes you place the cardboard cards on was laminated. I am not sure if it is and it's just really lite but trying our best, b/c we only get this out when we work on it together, that the single pieces wont get bent. I am considering taking it to the teaching store to get it laminated again. If so this product would last a lot longer. Either way it's a great product and I think he will enjoy it more exploring this game again when he's 3.

I have limited space and wanted a small, practical amplifier -something that is easy to move and set up. This one is light -it's easy to pick up and move with one hand -and works off of a nine volt battery but can accept a DC9Volt plug (not included).
