Outstanding! Great tone, nice sustain, Smooth neck, great action, nice minimalistic, single pickup & volume control that's just as loud as any guitar out there. Awesome, black sunburst look. Machine heads move with ease when tuning. My only three caveats would be the cheaply constructed cord (even though it hasn't failed me yet) to watch for it going out of tune often, but even that is only going to happen if you have big hands, a heavy, sweep picking playing style & play metal with a heavy pick (yours truly). The final warning is the design's lack of access to the very bottom frets (which again matters very little considering that the default strings are so pliable that they bend into some wickedly high screams anyway.) I can see why it was placed in the toy section as it would be a great starter guitar for kids, but it's just as practical as a travel/jam guitar for adults & maybe even more (I wouldn't be ashamed to play out with it or scared to record with it either!) The bottom line is that this axe is just fun as hell to play anywhere, for any reason, by anybody of any age. Don't be mislead by the section it's been placed in. You will also find it in the instruments section & it's worth the price & then some!

I do not believe in hand held games or video games for children. My mother is the one who went against my wishes and purchased this for my daughter Christmas 2008, that's right 2008. Knowing my feeling on this subject my mother came armed with newspaper articles, e-articles, and an educational magazine. Due to my stubbornness it was an entire year before I loaded the software on my computer. With that being said I am glad my mother purchased this for my daughter (age 8) as I never would. Didj is not a hand held game or video game, it is an awesome educational tool. I love it! The Didj includes a feature on its "Leapfrog Connect" in which I can upload her spelling words and choose her math facts and language arts skills by grade and then again by specific skills. In order to continue to the next level she must answer a series of educational questions, this motivates her because she earns micromods. Micromods are equivalent to money/tokens in which she downloads "extras" for each game. For example, she has downloaded a pet for Sonic and a new computer for Nancy Drew and a Karate move for Spongebob. I have purchased another six educational tools; Nancy Drew, Nicktoons, Neopets, Tinkerbell, Super Chicks, High School Musical and a free download from Leapfrog Jet Pack Heroes. I can't seem to say enough about this valuable educational tool. My daughter is studying her math facts and spelling words without me telling her "It's time to study".

I got this for my 6-year-old for Christmas she likes it, but my 9-year-old likes it even more. It takes patience, so I don't think it would be good for younger kids.

Two kids (3 and 5) really like to see where the family travels and appreciate the globe vs google maps, which doesn't convey the shape of the earth, solor system concepts, etc., nearly as well. Works well as an intersting mood lighting piece but the bulb didn't last that long. Overall a great purchase.

I purchased this when the price was $95. The "die cast meridian" is plastic and the stand looked like particle board with printed wood finish fixed to it. Globe only spins of you hold the base and rotate globe. I must have been paying a lot for the illuminated feature, because this globe felt an awful lot like a $40 globe. Returned it and bought the hexhedra by Replogle.

I bought this manipulative set to use with my young daughter who was so bored at school that she was learning very little. These penguins are so fun she could not resist them. The penguins are about 2 inches tall and are made of a pleasant-to-the-touch vinyl type of material. There are ten colors, and ten penguins of each color = 100 penguins. After we've done math with the penguins, we practice counting and colors in Spanish. If you are interested in the coloring strip pictured with the listing, you should know that they provide you with one original as part of the instruction book, and you copy it to make the strips yourself. We are not using the coloring strips, ourselves.)

Be creative and come up with new ideas about color patterns and ways to count and do math, and this toy/learning resource will be wonderful. If you're expecting it to provide detailed game ideas and activities with rules, it doesn't. It's made of good quality material and will last. The penguins are cute, and colors vivid (brown looks exactly like chocolate!), but other than that, there are 100 identical shaped penguins and 10 bars to put them on, which semi hook together. My toddlers girls had the penguins on the ends of their fingers like finger puppets and the boy created an "army" of them lined up on his glacier bars. We each had a pile and traded with each other according to color.

Unfortunately, this will be our last year collecting Take-n-Play for our older grandson, so we were so pleased to see Duck finally arrive in time to include him! He's been around forever in the Railway Series books, even though he hadn't appeared in the TV series for about 5 years until he returned this year. He's the cheerful but no-nonsense engine with "GWR" (standing for Great Western Railway") on his sides (Take-n-Play's version also has a #8), and he doesn't take any lip from anybody! His real name is actually "Montague", but is called "Duck" because he has a waddling gait. Interestingly, when Reverend W. Awdry (who authored The Railway Series of books that inspired the TV series) received his model of Montague for his railway, the wheels were uneven, which caused him to appear to waddle his children nicknamed him "Duck", and that's what he's been called ever since!

We spent a bit more ($6.74 on Amazon) than Fisher-Price's $6 MSRP for Duck, but since the shipping was free and we saved ourselves a trip to the store, we went ahead and added him to our "cart". We would've enjoyed continuing the collection for our younger grandson, but we've seen too many reductions in the general quality of the line over the past year, which is a shame. It was a "good ride" while it lasted!

So this is exactly what you think... A laminated placemat. It is sturdy, not a thin lamination, but dont be fooled to think this is going to be heavy duty. I would not trust it in the dishwasher. That being said, it is helping with my son leaning his alphabet, and is standing up through many meals.

I bought this for my 11-month old baby, and she absolutely loves playing with it. She pulls off the wooden balls on top of the stacks, rolls them on the floor and crawls after them, then does it all over again. She especially loves pulling all of the blocks off and creating a big mess (she's in destructive mode right now) and stacking them by herself. A great toy!

This game is great ! It combines all the qualities a toy should have : it is educative shapes, colors, numbers; stacking action ; fun the little heads make great puppets on fingertips and the balls roll super well ; safe non toxic and parts too big to present a danger.

The only thing I would caution about is to not leave it on the floor in case your kid would fall on it. No doubt it would tip over if the fall was from the front, but not from the side. We set it up on a low table.

I got to see it in person before gifting it. The colors are vibrant and it seems very durable. I was told that the recipient absolutely loves this toy. I need to buy one for my son as well. We're waiting until he's over his 'Bam Bam' phase and stops throwing everything.

Basic Roominate Review

We have two girls, ages 11 and 14, and they were just enthralled with these toys/building blocks/science experiments....Recently we had a chance to visit UC Berkley and the Lawrence Hall of Science with it's hands on science museum. It just so happened that the designers/inventors of Roominate were appearing in the DesignQuest exhibit at the same time we were there. My girls were all over this! The Roominate kits held their attention for well over an hour and that is saying a lot as the hall was filled with all kinds of fun experiments.

What I like most about this product is the blending of science, math and engineering. The kids didn't know that this was educational, it was just fun. The added bonus of electricity was icing on the cake. Besides running the motor, they designed lighting fixtures. Besides making furniture, they thought about making airplanes...it went on and on. The best thing though, was seeing that two women made these. They designed and marketed it. They are scientists and engineers who made toys!!!! What better role models could you ask for, especially for young girls?!

I am so impressed by this product. My daughter is 9 and LOVES Barbies. She recently stopped playing with the actual Barbie house and furniture until we got the Roominate. At first she said it was too difficult to assemble, not only the fan but everything else because she was required to use her imagination and she didn't know where to start(something she hasn't had to do in a while because everything is already made for her), but after she worked out the details she was able to do it and she was so proud of the results. Since getting the Roominate she is back to using her Barbie furniture and has made a Barbie (and Kelly) and Roominate kingdom! The Roominate comes with so many pieces she had enough left over to use the box the Roominate came in for an additional room! I am so pleased with this product, my daughter loves it, and I love the fact that she is using her imagination again and is building so many different cool rooms. Thanks Roominate!

Hoping to provide a fun summer activity, I bought a Basic Roominate for each of my two granddaughters, ages 10 and almost 5. I wasn't at all sure I had made a good choice as I was afraid the ten year old might be bored and the four year old too young to be able to manage. My fears were totally unfounded. Both girls loved the experience, and they worked without a break for several hours. Each built and decorated her own room. The younger child had no trouble working with the pieces or putting the motor together, and it was particularly satisfying to watch both of them try something and then as they came up with new ideas take the pieces apart and rebuild. When their father came to pick them up, they reluctantly left and asked if I could possible get some more "sets" . I immediately ordered the Architect set and a string of lights for each. Roominate is a real winner!

This was a birthday gift for my seven year old, who loves to build. She and her older sister quickly built a house, then tried to make an elevator. They rummaged through our art supplies and created furniture, decorations, and landscapes, then added in other toys to complete their scenes.

The building didn't stop with houses my little one found uses for the motor and built a workable boat. She loves Roominate and it stays accessible in her room as a "current" toy.

I like that the pieces are plain enough to become anything, and sturdy enough to last through assembly and destruction for re-use. The girls and I do wish there were more wall-like pieces of different shapes and sizes maybe in future kits? It is useful to get more than one kit so that there are lots of building options.

I've bought this toy as a gift and for play sessions at science events for kids. So I've observed numerous kids playing with this toy, so I think I can evaluate how 'fun' this toy is. I also play with the toy myself when I get a chance.

Kids quickly figure out that they can put together all sorts of things with the various parts in the toy. I'm always impressed at their creativity. One of the core parts of the toy is a motor that most kids start using as fan motor. The kids build their own fan blade, hook up the motor to a battery and switch, and then they can control their fan. But from that, I've seen all sorts of creations. I saw one kid just keep on adding parts to the motor, making this huge spinning machine. I don't know what it did, but it sure looked cool, and I wanted to play with it! Another kid made little helicopter flyers from paper, attached it to the motor, and used it to shoot off the helicopter flyers into the air. Amazing! How did they figure it out?

I think kids will get all sorts of benefits from this toy. Learning about science, learning about building, being creative, and being decorative. It's fun to see what the kids do, and also fun to sneak in later and mess with their creations.

*Extra note: I completely forgot to mention that while this toy is marketed for young girls (which makes sense, as there is a dearth of female engineers), I've seen plenty of young boys having fun with this toy. At these science events, it's a mix of children, and both genders have fun tinkering with the kits.

**Extra, extra note: This was the review for the Original Roominate, just moved it over. I paid $60 for this originally, and now it is $30. The Deluxe is a fantastic deal at $50. Purchased more kits!

Cheap Jet Creations 36" Inflatable Globe - Blue Political

I was looking for a large inflatable globe for a while. The Jet Creations globe was the cheapest one I could find in that size.

It turns out that the cheapest is not bad at all in this case. The globe really is 36" in diameter when inflated. It comes with the stand (as pictured), with a patch for punctures, and with a pumping adapter. Everything comes in a nice box that is quite suitable for giving the globe as a gift.

The globe seems to be made of a sturdy vinyl, and I don't anticipate problems with quality. The pumping valve is large, which is helpful, but pumping the globe using lung power can certainly make one dizzy. The globe is not exactly spherical when pumped, but it is actually surprisingly close (there are 4 or so patches of vinyl connected together forming flatter regions in the middle of the patches and slight bulges at the seams). The valve is in the middle of Antarctica, and on the north pole there is a loop to hang the globe (looks sturdy).

The globe was somewhat dirty, so the first thing I had to do was to wipe it. Then I have noticed that some of the print is smudged in some areas. There are the continents and countries which seem to be blended directly into vinyl, and these were fine. There is red print for countries, and black print for places. In some places, the black print was either warped or totally disfigured so that the names could not be read at all. There disfigured text is not a big deal for me as it happens in only a few places. I could probably try to replace the globe with another one, but for me the few problems are not worth going through the trouble.

All in all, this is a great toy as much for me as for my child. The detail of the images on the globe while not astounding is actually pretty good. I can wholeheartedly recommend this toy to anyone who wants to teach kids about the earth, countries, continents, and so on. We already had fun (with our kids) talking about how one has to fly the plane from one place to another and actually being able to "fly" a plane over this huge globe. :)

I bought these bells for my 7-year-old nephew. There are stickers naming the note on the handle of each bell. One of the stickers had already fallen off when I examined the bells upon receipt. Eventually my brother will probably have to write the notes on each bell with a permanent marker.

These bells do not come with a songbook. Included is a folded piece of paper with 2 or 3 songs on it. I could not find any color-coded handbell music online. I purchased the songbook that Amazon advertises along with the bells, but I had to color-code the notes myself with colored pencils. Do not buy the cards that are advertised with the bells. They are for learning chords.

The bells' packaging is not suitable for long-term storage. I ended up decorating a shoebox with stickers. Amazon does sell a case for around $12.

In spite of everything, I am happy with the bells. My nephew started playing songs immediately after he opened them and I could see his intuitive musical skills breaking through!

This is a good inexpensive handbell set for children to learn the basics of ringing; it's makes a good musical toy for youngsters. Unfortunately, the tuning, especially of the middle C, is not good. It is not noticeable, certainly not by untrained ears, until you play the middle C and high C together a cringe-producing sound. Good fun but not much of a musical learning tool.
