Buy Family Pastimes / The Farmers Market - A Co-operative Game

We're fans of the Famiy Pastimes cooperative games. This one has easy-to-follow rules with the simple goal of trying to ensure that each shop at the Farmer's Market makes money, or it will close. There is a random element in that there are more action tokens than can be used in each round, so sometimes very tough choices need to be made, and some advance planning may at times be helpful, but can sometimes backfire if you don't draw the token(s) you need.

Quick to learn, quick to play and opens up some very interesting conversations with kids about money, choices made in spending, buying local, etc.

The only issue with these games is that you have to understand that these are produced by a small company so the pieces are maybe not as sturdy as what you may be familiar with. We just make sure the kids are extra-careful, though, and so far we haven't had any issues.

We also love Caves & Claws, and this one is another excellent family game by Family Pastimes.

I have 4 children ranging from 9 yrs to 3yrs and they all love this game (of course we help the 3 yr old along). It's great to see them all work together and understand the basic concept of merchants. Yes, the pieces are all made from a cardboard but even with 4 kids it has not been an issue for us and the pieces are still in great shape after a year of play.

I was surprised that my son, age 11, wanted something that did not need batteries. But he put it on the Christmas list. Great toy, easy to assemble. So far, it has been very durable. Like that is teaches Science, even though he does not realize it. Would recommend!

Had a really fun time with this race car. The only problem is the metal bar the holds the wheels on bent after a few times. I think the reason it bent was because I used my air compressor to make it work. I should have used a foot pump, but that would be no fun. Also seems to have a hard time rolling on cement or any pavement. Either way, this thing is really fun.

7 yr old loved it. Read a lot of it himself and was able to do some of the experiments himself. I think the behavior of magnets is especially concrete, fun & "magical" for the kids.

I received this as a shower gift and I am not sure if I would have purchased this off the shelf, just by its looks. After I put it together I thought it was too small and wasn't going to last past my son's 4th month, but my son is now 7 months and still finds it entertaining enough that it still remains one of his favorite toys. The bright, colorful, dangling toys are low enough very young babies to reach up and hit and remain engaged for a good amount of time. The tunes are not annoying either. As my son started to reach and grab, he would bat all the toys around and then try group them together triggering the tunes and lights. And now that my son is rolling over and creeping, he will roll off the mat, but finds his way back to play with it and the elephant and lion on the legs he just discovered. I am so happy with this toy because seeing and hearing my son's excitement when he plays with this is priceless!

I was trying to replace an item we had for my oldest, but this still wasn't quite it. This is very cute, and once my baby can pull the frog, it will be great. I just wish there were a way to turn the movement and/or music on all the time for when the baby is young. Otherwise, she just looks at it and we pull the frog for her. It should have music, at least, that you can turn on.

This diary is very nice and cute in appearance. It was purchased for my 7 year old. The only problem I have with it is the lock. It is difficult for me and my husband to get it lined up just right so that it can be locked. Other than the lock, it is pretty inside and out.

Nothing too incredibly fancy, the cover is GORGEOUS, and the lock is cute. It's just an ordinary journal that has a good cover on it. It's not cheaply made either, it would make a GREAT gift.

We purchased this for our 4yr old and he loved it. We removed it from it's case and emptied the water and watched it shrink back to size after a few days. Now we're on our second magmasaurus and this time we've changed the water several times and removed only the top lid and it continues to grow! It's pretty cool. We've had to place it in a couple larger containers to keep it growing. We're not sure how large it'll get but we're on week 3 and it's still growing! What a cool toy and strange material.

My 3-year-old loved watching all the bubbles fizz up from the volcano to reveal a little dinosaur. But, of course, he wanted to play with the Dino after it was revealed. Don't know if I was missing something, but the top seems to be glued on, and the Dino is attached to the bottom of the jar. Had to perform minor surgery to get it out! All-in-all, it entertained him enough to be worth the price...just not designed to be user-friendly!

I bought this leaf blower for my son for his second birthday. It is a very nice toy. He likes it a lot. It has not broken or needed the batteries changed after 2 months. It makes a reasonable sound that is not too loud. The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't blow ANY air. Not even the slightest bit. My son always tries to blow a leaf or piece of grass and is disappointed that it doesn't move. Why can't they make a toy leaf blower that actually blows a little air? I can't find one anywhere.

my child has had this toy for 2 months and is now 10 months old. i mounted this toy on the wall so that my child would have something to play with that isn't on the ground as the rest of his toys are. here are the benefits of this toy:

helped bring his awareness and gaze off the ground where 90% of other toys are (because i mounted it on the wall), strengthening his neck muscles and trunk, helping to bring his arms up and away from his body

fine motor helped improve his grasp as the pegs are really easy to hold onto in his hand helped strengthen his grasp because they take a little effort to tug out

fine motor tactile input of the holes helped him learn to use his pointer independently putting his finger in the holes on the board and the pegs

oral motor taught him how to blow through the pegs some make a slight whistle noise

cognitive i lined the pegs on the floor two feet apart from the living room to the bedroom and he followed them

"kaboom" stack the pegs up high on the floor and taught him to knock the tower down

pull apart improved grasp and shoulder strength by pulling these pegs apart tries to put them back together but isn't there yet has learned to twist as he pulls them apart

can hang other toys like rings on these pegs which serve as hooks when the board is mounted

can put the pegs in a clear container and teach him "in" and "out"

haven't even gotten to stringing the toys together with the shoelace it comes with, haven't gotten to counting or colors either as he's still too young to really get that. great toy if you have the time and patience to be creative and teach the baby. plus the colors are great and my friends without kids think this is akin to mod art in my living room.

I purchased this toy a few months ago to add to my homeschool rotation for the little ones and it's been a great investment.

It's a simple toy, but it has multiple uses. Putting the pegs into the mat, stacking them, and lacing them are all great activities for working on fine motor skills. You can also use the pegs for teaching counting, sorting, colors, and shapes. With older children you could also use them for some math concepts such as early addition or comparison. (If you have three red pegs and two green pegs, how many are there all together? Which stack of pegs is highest? Which is shortest? How could we make them the same?)

The board itself is made from a thick rubber foam. If you have one of those foam puzzle floor mats, it's the same type of material. The pegs are a heavy plastic and large enough that I'm not overly concerned about them being swallowed. One side of the board is blank. The other side has six shape outlines that each hold a different number of pegs--great for introducing shapes and counting. The box also includes a short pamphlet with some other ideas of learning activities you can do with the set. My kids have really enjoyed this and I'd highly recommend it.

I bought this keyboard for my 5 yr. old grandson. He knows his letters and letter sounds very well. I thought this could be a good learning tool and the next step in his learning process. This would be OK for a 7 or 8 yr. old but at five it is just tedious for him. The games also dont give clear directions. The age range os decieving. It is just too complicated for a child that cant read fairly well. He has been playing his V Smile for 2 years and loves it. He has both the pocket version and the regular one. This would be a 5 star for an older child. Ill exchange it for something else.

I bought this because we have every other V.smile toy and it seemed like a fun addition to our set. Our V.smile is mainly played with by my 3 year old but I was hoping my 10 year old would like this because she likes learning to type. Well my 10 and 12 year olds can't put this down! They LOVE the games. This has A LOT to do on it. They can practice typing with fun games, there are arcade games, they can learn to write emails and there is also a feature where you can earn animals for your collection and they love that (sort of like the neopets website). There is so much to do. My 3 year old plays around with it but its really too advanced for her. An 8 year old neighbor was over last night and played with it for 2 hours! She loved it so much her mom went home and ordered it too! I think this might just be the best v.smile accessory yet (although the kids still LOVE the art studio too). I would recommend this for ages 5-10 (I think my 12 year old is a bit unusual that she likes it!). Great product. I don't write many reviews but the kids just loved this so much that I had to!
