When my two year old got his power touch last October he received a couple of extra storybook and Elmo's Big Surprise was one of them. With actual voices from the show this book fits into your Power touch as you can follow along the story and pause to press on virtually everything on each page. Lots of fun games involving ABC's, Numbers, Words, colors, etc. Very fun and very educational We really love our PowerTouch!

Elmo is one of my 2 year old's favorites...she really enjoys reading this interactive book. It is educational as well as fun at the same time, which is hard to find in most toys. She is able to work thru the book on her own...it is very easy to use. Highly recommend this Learning System for children 2 and up.Honest reviews on Power Touch Book: Elmo's Big Surprise

Hexbug Spider - Red Reviews
I purchased one of these, honestly ,for myself because I thought it looked neat. I was surprised with how fast it walks, and it handles at least low pile carpeting fairly well, plus you can see more of the internal mechanics so get at least a small idea of how it works. Can easily see why the Hexbug line has gotten so far.
In short, I highly recommend it, only thing I wish is that the LED "eye" stayed on to show direction.
Like all the Hexbugs, this has small moving parts and is meant for kids old enough to be somewhat gentle when playing with it. I'm not sure how durable it is... I can't imagine that it would survive too many falls on a hard floor without some of the tiny pieces breaking. My son has been taking extra good care of it (his lives in a metal lunch box with his other Hex bug) since he spent his own money on it, though.
I'm not sure it has any real educational value, though he's had fun experimenting to find out which surfaces the spider will and will not walk on. (Kitchen floor= yes. Wrinkled bedspread= no.)
Overall, it's not a toy that appeals to me as an adult, but my 6 year-old loves it, and that's really all that matters!

I bought this toy for Christmas for my 11 year old nephew, it was a hit. I got a call saying thank you and got a video of just what it does. It is very smooth with it's motions, it looks and acts like a bug and is very creepy. Everyone was having fun with this toy, even adults enjoyed this toy. I recommend it for anyone who loves robots, bugs, or crawly creatures of any kind. This is a great toy!Best Deals for Hexbug Spider - Red
I have not tested the item itself, but was extremely disappointed that it came with the packaging all beat up. The plastic container it was in was broken, and it was taped shut. The item was supposed to be new, but definitely did not look that way!! This was particularly disappointing because I had planned to give it as a gift the next day.Honest reviews on Hexbug Spider - Red

My 6 year-old son saved up his birthday money to purchase this Hexbug Spider, and he has not been disappointed. A small book for children, particularly pre-schoolers, about a little boy who goes outside to play in the new fallen snow. It shows the simple joy and delight a child can have with newly fallen snow. I disagree with the comments of an earlier reviewer (Ms. Whittaker from Rush City, Minnesota, in 1998); the artwork is simple and direct because of the nature of the simple and quiet story and because the book is really aimed a pre-schoolers. Interestingly, the book won the 1963 Caldecott Medal for best illustration in a children's book. As far as I can tell, this book is the first winner which is centered about an African-American child. Hence, for this and other reasons, it is a book that should be on the shelf of any serious student of children literature.
In this book, Peter wakes up to discover that snow has covered the city in the night. Delighted, he pulls on his bright red (and now world known) snowsuit and plunges into a day of exploring and playing. He makes fun tracks, and hits snow off the branches of trees. He constructs a smiling snowman and slides down steep mountains of snow. At the end of the day his mother gets him out of his wet clothes and gives him a nice hot bath. The next morning the snow is still there, and an ecstatic Peter calls up a friend to do the whole day over again.
When I was a child I loved (and still do) stories that took place in the big cities. Keats never draws an inordinate amount of attention to Peter's surroundings. So while you won't see skyscrapers or taxi cabs, there's a distinctly urban feel to the lay of the land. The text is nice and easy for the youngsters to understand. As for the cut-outs, they're a delight to look at. Picture books featuring cut-outs may be remembered best as belonging to such artists as Eric Carle or Leo Lionni, but I consider Mr. Keats to be the granddaddy of the art form. Aside from the beauty of the landscaping in this pictures, I loved the papers used in the book. The section in which Peter sits on the snow, a snowball embedded on his chest, the black sky is a-swirl in greens, blues, and browns. When Peter slides down a snow covered embankment, the sky is then a delightful twisty series of white smoke-like curlicues. And Peter's home itself is eloquently rendered. From the wrought iron bed frame to the multicolored wallpaper and tiles that enhance the setting, the book is the best possible combination of elegance and realism.
If it came out today, "Snowy Day" wouldn't garner an overly enthusiastic response from publishers and critics. Which isn't to say that it's unworthy of the praise already received. As I've tried to show, the book is a wonderful amalgamation of text, pattern, and emotion. One of the finest books written for children, and a great evocative story.
The story is minimalist, as are the collages which illustrate the text, but the overall effect is delicious. Peter is a nimble expression of childhood vitality and play, and the pictures combine fabric, rubber stamps, what looks to be wallpaper, paper cut-outs, and fiber to very great effect. It's short, it's sweet, and it's simple--just like the best snowy days.
The deftness of the language and the beautiful illustrations humble me. The focus of the story and the things that fascinate young Peter also fascinate my little boy, who is 19 months old. He asks me to read this to him at least three times a night. And it's so wonderfully done, I don't even mind.
Whether your child is white, black, purple, green or checkered, get this book. This is a wonderful book.

This book is part of my standard baby shower gift package along with Goodnight Moon and The Runaway Bunny. With very few words it manages to tell a very simple, yet very elegant story that young children can relate to. The pictures are beautiful and draw children further into the story. As an added bonus, the main character is African-American. Though it makes no difference to the story, it was important to me as a child reading this book 25 years ago to see a kid that looked like me in a book where race was not the focus of the plot, and is important to children of any race reading it today. I cannot recommend this book highly enough for any child of any race, boy or girl.Best Deals for The Snowy Day - Big Book Edition
When "The Snowy Day" first came out, it was considered groundbreaking. Unprecedented. Here, at last, was a picture book in which the protagonist is black. It's not an overtly political book, mind you. Just a nice story about a kid in the city playing in the snow. Having heard about this story for a long time, I decided now was the moment to see how well this book has stood up over time. Ezra Jack Keats has long passed from idle picture book author to a somewhat god-like figure of the children's book world, so does this early work stand out even today? If it was introduced for the first time now, would it be considered as good as it is? Yes and no. The book is both a fabulous creation, and a very simple, very normal, tale that everyone on one level or another is familiar with.In this book, Peter wakes up to discover that snow has covered the city in the night. Honest reviews on The Snowy Day - Big Book Edition
Exra Jack Keats' "A Snowy Day" is utterly timeless. As simple and charming and lovely today as it was when first published in 1963, it describes the small adventures of Peter, a city boy who wakes up one day to find the city entirely shrouded in snow. Peter does what any other red-blooded child would do: he puts on his snowsuit and runs outside. There he indulges in the age-old pursuits of making funny footprints in the snow, hitting a tree to watch the clumps of snow fall from it, making a snowman and snow angels, and sliding down a hill covered with snow. He even packs a snowball into his coat pocket. There aren't a lot of books that both a little child and a weary (wee bit bored, perhaps?) adult can both appreciate. This is one. Keats understands how young children think, how they look at the world. When the young protagonist Peter sits in the tub and thinks and thinks about the day's adventures, I'm struck by recognition both as a parent and as a former small child. I've seen that faraway expression, that serious working through. The deftness of the language and the beautiful illustrations humble me. The focus of the story and the things that fascinate young Peter also fascinate my little boy, who is 19 months old. He asks me to read this to him at least three times a night. Great unit for doing difficult rework. With the .5x objective installed you get around ~6.5 inches of working distance. This unit has a lot of mass and is very stable. The optics are great and focus tracks very well throughout the magnification range. The light source is really great because you can control 4 individual regions on the ring light and eliminate shadows/reflections on components.

I am totally happy with this scope. Although the price was amazingly reasonable, the quality is still top notch. I use it for doing surface mount electronic work and repair and it couldn't be better. Thanks for keeping prices low.Best Deals for AmScope 3.5X-45X Circuit Board Boom Stereo Microscope + 144 LED
This is an amazing product for the price. The same quality instrument sold from jewelry supply houses sells for three to four times this price. It is great for engraving, stone setting, inspection, watch repair, basically anything that is hard to see. It makes your finger print look like the grand canyon with a little river running in the ravines between the print lines. The LED bank provides better than expected visibility. This product comes with the adapter lens, but they don't tell you that, so do not buy the other lens. The only negative is the plastic adapter ring that holds the LED assembly to the lens. If you bump the light, it pops off. A dab of epoxy on the threads will make it last a lifetime. If someone from the factory is reading this, You need to make it out of metal! Cheap VTech - V.Reader Software - Shrek's Vacation
Well, here we are, only two days out from Christmas Day. Our darling 4 1/2 year old received her VReader on Christmas Day, from us. I am back to give our impression of it so far.
We didn't really find time to do much with it until very late last night. I was going to look at it a bit while she had a late snack of peppermint ice cream. Before I knew it she had finished and was back to me just as I was about to start playing with it.
I handed it over to her. We bought her five cartridges/titles for it, plus the one it came with. The titles we own are: Shrek, Toy Story 3, Olivia, Dora and Tinkerbell. The age spectrum varies a lot among those titles. I was eager to see the representation of various age levels. I was pleased to find that Shrek is much more difficult than some of the other titles. I believe it has the highest age rating; it is ages 5-7. Toy Story 3 has an age rating of 3-5. While Toy Story 3 was relatively easy/babyish for her, it was still fun and I believe engagin if not exactly challenging. This means the creators pulled together a pretty good package. The Shrek title will certainly last her a LONG time. Some of it is easy enough for her to do now but some will take her a while to master and that is good.
We'd played with the demo units in the stores this Christmas season. But demo units such as the stores had are not really definitive. There just wasn't enough variety in what it allowed the user to do. So far it seems that every title has the option of reading the title story or having the unit read it aloud to you. Each title also appears to have a lot of games, say, perhaps about 10-12, associated with the story! I was really surprised by the number of activities included in each title!
I think this unit is going to last her a long time. I believe we will end up buying a lot more titles. Our little one is a big reader. She is already reading 3 and 4 letter words on her own and I recently caught her decoding the word "chapter" as she tried to read a book herself! I love that she loves to read. I think her VReader is going to be a lovely compliment to her homeschooling as well as her personal enjoyment of books.

Best Little Tikes Dirt Diggers 2-in-1 Dump Truck Deals
My 2yo son got this for Christmas and it's already made it to a storage box. The back part that can also be used as a bucket comes off with just the slightist pressue. So, if he wants to use it as a truck and he tries to push it along, the back falls right off. If he wants to pick it up by the handle (what you should typically be able to do), it comes apart with NO force. What makes it worse is that the back panel that opens to unload the dirt also flaps open with no effort. So even if he just used the back part as a bucket, he couldn't fill it with anything because the end opens up with the first scoop of sand. What a piece of junk.

The back bucket comes off and becomes a sand toy, which is neat, but that's about all this is good for, because unfortunately, the back bucket comes off at the SLIGHTEST touch, so you can't use it as a truck! We ordered this as a stocking stuffer for our daughter so it hasn't been played with, yet. It sure looks cute and I am sure it will be enjoyed. There was not a size listed in the amazon description, but it is quite small. A little over two inches tall. But it works nicely and is durable. The kids love it and I am still glad I bought it. I probably would not choose this over other Plan Toys items simply because it cost almost $10 after shipping and it is very small.

Discount Chicco Toys Smart Driver (Spanish / English)
My son got this gift from Santa when he was a little over one year old. Now he's a little over two years and still plays with this. We are a bilingual family and so need toys that are versatile, and this toy is very durable as well. I have no complaints and can see this toy will make it through at least a couple of kids and then some! A winner!
There were two major problems with this toy. First, there are two settings for volume, but both settings were equally loud (and I mean LOUD). This could just be a problem with our individual unit, but it was quite annoying.
Second, and more importantly, within 2 months this toy's audio gave out altogether. The lights still work, but there is no sound at all. Granted, it has taken a lot of abuse from two young children, but given that it is made for young kids I would have expected more durability.
Overall, I was very disappointed in the longevity of this product and would not recommend it for younger children who may be too rough with it, as it doesn't appear to be very durable. My children have lost interest in it since it stopped making noise, so for the short time they played with it, it was not worth the price.
