Cheap DUDE Diary #2

My 7 year old son just got this and can't put it down. I haven't looked through it thoroughly yet because he's keeping it locked up and secret, but some of what I saw was fill in blank stuff like "name the last thing you threw up" or "what would you say to an alien?". Stuff like that. He's pretty into it, and loves that he can lock it up safe from his sisters! I'm getting one for his cousin too so they can 'compare notes' if they want. I recommend for any boy!

When my 8-year-old picked up a copy of this at his school book fair, I was convinced I wasn't going to like it because I'd rather he spend the money on actual books. Was I ever wrong! He sat down for a half hour after school every day until it was filled, carefully completing entries and putting actual thought into them. OK, so the questions aren't as weighty as "how would you create world peace," but it's a start, and it's far more of a start than I've ever seen him make willingly with school writing assignments. I subsequently ordered Dude Diary 1 for both him and his 6-year-old brother, as well as a copy of Dude Diary 2 for his brother. I'd quickly order more editions if they were available.

I got this toy for my grandson. He loves Dinosaur Train. However, he and his friends get frustrated trying to insert the plastic cards. I should have waited until he is five but then maybe he won't like the show as much. I even had trouble getting the cards to insert.

Well, this item has very little product info, so I took a chance and purchased it. I wanted something inexpensive that I could take on picnics and weekend getaways. This is the perfect little MP3 Mini dock for travel or a desk at work. I'm not sure why this is listed in the toy category, probably because it was geared toward youngsters.

The sound quality is low grade, so if you're looking for high quality audio, you'll have to spend a lot more money. This iTilt takes 4 AAA batteries (not included), and it has an input for a wall plug converter 110 ACV to 6 volts DC. However, no converter is included. Even so, you can buy a compatible converter at Radio Shack for less than 10 bucks. It also happens my old Palm Pilot charger has the right voltage and plug and seems to work fine with it. But if you experiment with old converters, be sure you know what you're doing -the voltage can be no more than 6 DCV.

It works with a little fold-out stand that exposes a dock with a prong to place your iPod or other MP3 player onto. In the event you have another type of device, it also comes with a double male-ended plug/cord that inputs in the back of the unit. So, for example, if you have a Motorola phone with music storage, you can use the plug/cord accessory to get connected and listening to music.

It measures approx 6.5 inches long and 3 inches tall. It's a nice value if you just want a simple player to take your music from place to place with no hassles.

We worked with a middle school Robotics club to develop a ROBOT for BEST Robotics. One of the concepts we worked hard at was the design of an arm. This wood kit allowed the kids to experience building arms, and get a feel for what is was like building them out of wood. We've pretty much sworn off electronic toys until the quality control improves.

These had easy-to-follow-instructions. Wood, syringes, tubes and glue. Pretty foolproof. They even provide sandpaper to smooth the dowels when the joints are a bit tight. Simple and straightforward. Definitely a good intro to how hydraulics work. And no batteries, bad switches, cheap crappy plastic. If you're tired of poorly made toys, this one's a good bet.

She was able to independently build each model which contributed to her overall pride and success in her project. I got this book for my 10 yr old homeschooling son, who really dislikes writing. Since receiving it he has been enthusiastically filling up a daily journal with ideas started by this book! The book is getting a little worn with all the flipping back and forth to see the silly combinations but it still serves its purpose just fine. I would highly recommend it to all parents/teachers for ways to get even the less-than-enthusiastic writers going! I am actually ordering several of the other books in this series today to get a little more variety in writing types.

My son loves his wooden trains, but was sad that there weren't any people on the cars. I purchased this one, and he's been very excited to have a car with people. The car is well made, and fits in with the other cars he has (primarily Thomas the Train). Although this car doesn't really have a front and a back, this company's magnets are aligned in the same direction as the Thomas cars, so they can be mixed with the Thomas sets. (One of the other off-brand cars I bought had magnets that were backwards.)

LeapFrog Leapster 2 Learning System With Downloadable Disney-Pixar Reviews

Our older Leapster had taken a beating, so I decided to upgrade to the Leapster 2 since it was compatible with the previous series of games. This version seems to be a pretty significant upgrade. The downloadable content is nice, as is the ability to have the child's progress recorded on the Leapster website. The touch screen is more accurate, and the graphics clearer. My three year old is the chief operatorof this device, and he requires quite a bit of help with the games. However, he is a special needs kid, so he is not the best gauge. He can turn it on and change games on his own. He is better with games requiring the pen than those which require the keys to control. My seven year old son, who is a DSi devoteee also likes this new Leapster. I think this game is a good overall diversion, and a fun way to sneak in some learning while entertaining your little one. Ours sees way too many hospital rooms, but it is a nice way to pass some of the time. Games for the Leapster can add up to some $$$, so I hope that this version is supported for some time to come.

We purchased this (on sale from TRU, which was later price-matched on Leapfrog.com) a few months ago as the big Christmas gift for our 5 year old. It took about 2 nights (about 1-2 hours each) to download Leapfrog Connect and download the available games for the Toy Story Leapster 2. Pretty straightforward set up just give yourself enough time if you must read every single word of instruction like me. The screen is very crisp (in comparison to other kids toys in this price range), and the sound is very clear. We purchased the Leapster 2 case (also on sale) as well, and the whole thing (Leapster with cartridge and three individual cartridges under the strap) fit perfectly. We also purchased the AC adapter and use rechargable batteries on-the-go (this thing gobbles up 4 AAs) in order to save on the cost of constantly replacing regular batteries. If you ever see a family with a little girl at one of those airport charging stations playing on her Toy Story Leapster 2, that's probably us so say hi!

So far the Leapster has been handled gently, however this week the screen stopped responding to the stylus. The Leapfrog website had quick, great directions on recalibrating and viola it's now fixed! Obviously this is a problem that other owners have complained about before. And obviously a kids toys that's used daily is going to have some hiccups along the way. Also, the red paint on the keys is beginning to wear off. Not a big deal, but again this is obviously from daily use. Three months so far, and this Leapster is still kicking.

The Leapster 2 just seems like a better fit for my child than the Leapster Explorer she's not old enough yet to need the camera and all the other options on the Explorer, but the Leapster 2 offers LOTS of game choices and other activities that appeal to her. Definitely a great purchase, and a great option for either a boy or a girl.

The quality of this product was everything we had hoped. However it would have been nice if it had come preloaded with at least one game. The description made it hard to tell if it had games loaded or if they were just available to use. For the price a preloaded game would be nice, since the games are about $20 each. It is durable and easy to hold and the screen is easy to see. The Toy Story characters on it make it fun. Overall satisfied with the purchase. Our 4 year old grandson does not want to put it down!

My grandson LOVED this thing. We bought several age appropriate games. It lived in its case when not in use and only used under adult supervision. VERY disappointing when the screen stopped responding. We used it put it away to have lunch when we returned to play the screen would not respond.

Item came as described, used the disk to download games that came with it, our computer warned us that security does not recommend using it but Leapster Company insisted it is ok so we did and our computer now has something wrong with it and never got games downloaded. Son is 3 and shows little interest. Hope he will use more if we get more games which are hard to find now.

I don't understand why there are no reviews for this toy. When I purchased it(on Amazon) I read several reviews, suddenly they've disappeared. My own review is also missing! There is no story in this book, only song lyrics (which have been changed from the original). The songs they chose to include are not ones that any little child would know. The sidewalks of New York, Buffalo Gals, and others that I don't even know. My grand daughter had me play Twinkle Little Star and the Sesame Street Theme Song over and over since they were the only ones she recognized. Not what I expected from Sesame Street.

When my son first received this book when he was about 2 years old, he was really only interested in listening to Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and the Sesame Street theme song. Almost 2 years later, he loves the whole thing and knows all the words to all the songs. He loves playing with it. My 18-mo old daughter absolutely loves the "i-pod" and carries it all over the house and loves all the songs as well. I love finding music beyond the standards!

So I purchased two of these, I was super excited. Put my isopropyl alcohol in it, got it all ready to go and then realised the little screw that controls how much wick comes out is faulty. The two units i received i got at most 2 turns out of it before it became stuck. I tried with all my might to turn it both ways ( raising and lowering the wick) but it just wouldn't budge. I plan to use it as much as I can. It would be nice to control how big the flame is but it works just fine either way I guess.

This lamp is lighter and less fragile that a typical glass-reservoir burner. The wick adjustment knob functions as it is supposed to, as well as providing a fulcrum to remove a stuck cap (the cap to my last glass lamp eventually froze in place, making the lamp useless.) I also like the handle of this lamp, both for carrying and for securing the lamp to a less-than-level surface. Only time will tell how resistant this item is to corrosion or breakage, but so far I'm quite pleased.

This lamp is for very low heating, not for cooking or for lighting. It's for sterilizing inoculation loops, slides, heating small test tubes, adjusting hard rubber fountain pen feeds, or other low heat needs. It has a large capacity for fuel, snuffs out instantly, lights right away, has a low center of gravity, isn't glass (it's heavy chromed brass), so it won't break easily. Like any lamp which makes a small flame of this kind, use only with good ventilation; they all (including candles) produce Carbon monoxide, which is toxic. As is fuel alcohol!

...don't buy it for the wick adjuster. It never worked correctly.

It seemed ok (but a little tight) when it came out of the box. As soon as the wick was soaked in fuel, it bound up and stripped the gear from the shaft. I fixed it a couple of times but it's too far gone now.

However, it's so nice to look at I've kept in on my bench.
