Discount Easy-to-Use Vented Firefly Lantern
This is a good little firefly lantern, but it is smaller than I expected. Honestly, that's fine. Too many toys are space hogs. This is NOT. :) But the hand in the product image I see must be that of a 2 year old. The lantern is tiny.

Reviews of Teacher Created Resources Fruit of the Spirit Stickers, Multi Color
Teaching English at a Christian-founded Japanese pre-K, I have an opportunity to share simple concepts. These little stickers were a perfect reward at the end of my lesson. My kids loved the happy faces, bright colors and a chance to repeat the name of the fruit. Nice little teaching tool and reward. My only recommended improvement would be to make them scented according to their fruit, however that's also what imaginations are for. :)
These are perfect and I can give them several. Great product, great price
Very disappointed.

We had a WIC event in our community, where people came to learn about healthy eating for women and kids under the age of 5. We thought these would be a cute item for kids. When we received them, the inks were terribly faded on all of the sticker sheets. It look like either they had been laid out in the sun for months and months, or the printer had gone in an printed at 30% saturation to save on ink or something. They looked really sad, and we felt pretty awful giving them out to kids who couldn't ID the fruit according to color.Very disappointed.

Cheap Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium
This is a goregous item! I was hesitant to buy it online, so went to Target to see it for myself. You HAVE to push the button to try it before you can really appreciate it. The pictures on the website just don't do it justice.
The lights and motions and sounds that you can't see in pictures are what makes this so special. The lights are bright enough to be really sparkly, but soft, not harsh, amber colored. The movements of the fish and plants are subtle and realistic. The songs and sound effects, several lullabies, bubbles, oceantides and running river are high quality, not high-pitched or tinny. This is soothing, my almost 3 month old likes it and it almost made me fall asleep too.
The remote works well too, which is usually a problem with these types of items. It is super high quality, heavy weight materials. Make sure you don't cut the straps that are to hold it in the crib, as they attach it in the box, and even though there's a big red crossed circle sign telling you not to cut them, it took me a minute to process what it meant, and I was in such a hurry to get this out and working and show the baby that I almost cut them anyway (we parents are programmed to break out the chainsaw to get toys out of their packages these days!)
Really a good value for the money, I am so glad I went to see this and didn't pass it up! You will NOT be disappointed, go ahead and buy it on line if you like the idea and photos, you will LOVE the actual item!
They are priced comparably, although it seems that Amazon just raised the price on the Ocean Wonders one, for some reason. It is still available at other places like Target for about the same price as the Rainforest Soother.
The Ocean Wonders Aquarium soother is what I'm sticking with, and here's why:
1. My 5 month old likes it better! The Rainforest Peekaboo soother has lights and motion, but it's not as dramatic as the bubbles that you get in the Aquarium soother. My 5 month old got tired of the Rainforest soother after a few minutes, while the Ocean Wonders soother holds her riveted. (I think it's the bubbles!)
That was, of course, the deciding factor. Other considerations that pushed me over the edge were:
2. Ocean Wonders has longer music and motion cycle than the Rainforest soother. The Ocean Wonders soother goes for 18 minutes. You can optionally turn off the motion or lights or music. Conversely, the Rainforest soother only has an 18 minute cycle if you choose "music only." It has a 12 minute cycle if you choose "music and lights" (no motion). But if you want all 3 -music, lights, motion -you only can get that for 6 minutes. Not sure what the folks at Fisher Price were thinking there (perhaps battery life?), but no thank you!
3. Ocean Wonders comes with a remote. So, if that 18 minute cycle is longer than you would like, just shut it off from the doorway of your child's room.
4. Ocean Wonders has more music to choose from. There is a toggle button that allows you to choose 5 different music tracks (classical, nursery rhyme, etc) and just plan sound effects (bubbles, waves). The Rainforest soother, from what I can see, only has one choice, although it plays about 3 different tunes.
5. Ocean Wonders has a bigger start button, which makes it easier for your child to activate on their own. My daughter has turned the aquarium on all by herself just by stretching and kicking her feet. Which is fine by me! The Rainforest button is smaller and not as prominently located on the unit.
In short, they are both fine soothers, but I think the Ocean Wonders Aquarium soother has more going for it. And my daughter thinks so too!
I rated this very well when my daughter was 7 weeks because it truly helped her to fall asleep & adjust to sleeping in her crib. At 5 months old my daughter loved to watch the aquarium & learned how to turn it on & off which gave me a few extra minutes to get some things done during her naps. I ended up taking it out of her crib around 7 months because she was all over the place & I was afraid she'd get into trouble with it.
At 13 months old, I STILL use this everyday for her naps & bedtime routine. It stays on the rocking chair next to her crib & I use it to play music now. As soon as I go into the nursery, I turn on the music only (it has 3 options-music, lights & fish) & she sticks her thumb in her mouth & is ready to go to sleep. She still plays with it when she's out of her crib so I would certainly say this was well worth the money spent. It does use a lot of batteries if you run the music, lights & fish all at the same time but for just music it lasts for quite sometime.
By the way, there are several different songs/sounds to choose from. We've always just turned on the first song & I love it. Very pleasant & relaxing.

My baby seems to really enjoy this aquarium. I like how long the music plays and the songs are very soothing. I also like all the different settings and choices. My only complaint is that for some reason the tv remote we have in the baby's room turns the aquarium on and off as I turn the channel and change the volume quite frustrating when I'm watching tv while nursing the baby to sleep... I haven't found any way around this except to make sure that the aquarium is turned off before I turn on the tv. A little bit annoying, but still worth it to keep my baby entertained for a little while!Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Fisher-Price Ocean Wonders Aquarium
When my wife first told me about this item I was unsure but ordered it anyhow. How right my wife was! Our son is crazy about it!!! We often use it to lull our son to sleep at night. Only one word of caution...the remote control is set on a very broad frequency so that even when you use your TV's remote control, whether changing channels, adjusting volume or muting will turn the Aquarium off and on. For this reason, I strongly recommend you turn the remote function off when you put your baby to sleep or he/she will get an unexpecting surprise during the night!Monday, September 15, 2014

We had gotten the award winning Alex Jr. popbeads for my son for his first birthday but he didn't really get into beyond shaking the container and dumping them out and putting them back in until my mother spent a few hours with him, teaching him to "pop" them apart and "snap" them together. After this they became a favorite in the toy rotation.
Although the container says 6m+ on it, we went ahead and got the next in the line (also award winning), the Alex Jr. Baby Builder, for our son who is alost 20 months for Christmas. It includes more popbeads but other pieces for making more elaborate creations as well.
It was an immediate success with both my son and my 21 m.o. nephew wanting to play with it all weekend!!! And all the adults were having fun making wacky creations with the colorful pieces.
We like this set better then the popbeads alone as there is so much more to do with it. Although I think my son's favorite part is still to shake the container when full (but with the lid off) and have the pieces rattle about loudly and evantually all fly out all over the place. He takes the shaking very seriously and is very intent on his purpose. Then it's all smiles and giggles.
Pulling apart the beads and putting them together (even with help) are definitely developing his fine motor skills and I think as he gets older he will be able to focus more on building creations with the other pieces whereas now he primarily just takes ours apart.
A couple items to note. I don't think a 6 m.o. baby would be able to pull apart the popbeads and definitely note put them to together (my son still needs a bit of help with that) muchless actually build something. I'd probably suggest for 15 or 18 months and up.
Curiously, the popbeads in this set seem to be sightly easier to put together then the ones in the set of popbeads alone. Not nearly as much help is needed from an adult he was almost doing it on his own on Christmas Day and I think soon will be.
The plastic these are made of feels on the cheaper side but so far they have held up to a lot of toddler abuse with only a few dents. I was concerned that my son would chew on them and break off and swallow an end but again so far no problems and my son puts everything in his mouth and has a full set of baby teeth. But I do think that if an adult wearing shoes stepped down on one it could be squashed.
Again these were an immediate success with my son and I think he'll enjoy for many more months. The colors are bright and cheerful and the shapes fun. I highly recommend for young todders (15m 24m, and maybe older)and may be getting a set for my nephew!
These have better play value than standard pop-beads because there is more versatility in how they can be put together. Both our 15mo old and our almost 5 yr old enjoyed these (I also caught our 8 & 10yr old playing with them). These are perfect for a household that needs something a preschool-age child would enjoy and that is safe for a baby to get into.

This was a Christmas gift for my 6 month old. He had no idea how to 'build' with it, but that didn't stop him from enjoying it. The colorful blocks were so much fun to chew on, suck on, and toss around. My 2 1/2 year old loved it as well. He was old enough to put the blocks together and loved building chains. Six months later, this set was still played with daily by both boys. Unlike most toys that are boring after about a week, this toy continues to hold their attention what a great find!Best Deals for ALEX® Toys - Alex Jr. Baby Builder 1982
I bought these for my 6 month-old after playing with them at a friend's house. They were an instant hit. At 8 months old now, he still gets excited when I bring out these blocks. He loves grabbing the blocks and pulling beads apart. The curved shapes are perfect for teething on. The orange lid piece is just as much fun as the blocks. My son also loves tipping over the jar and watching the pieces tumble out. The jar is fun to roll around and rattle, and it is useful for teaching kids how to put blocks away. This toy will grow with him, as he learns to attach pieces together. It's fun for parents too. Save money and buy this builder set, instead of buying the "pop beads" and "first snaps" separately. I'm considering buying a second set, so we can make longer chains.Honest reviews on ALEX® Toys - Alex Jr. Baby Builder 1982

My 19 mo. daughter loves these! She like to take them out of the container and put them back in over and over again. She has started trying to put them together although she is much better at taking them apart. I like that there is a large number of them to keep her occupied. It is almost impossible to get them all back in the container so that the lid will close all the way so I just usually just set the lid on top.Friday, September 12, 2014

Cheap Learning Resources Hand Pointers, Set of 3
My daughter is in kindergarten and her teacher uses these pointers. These were my daughters #1 request for her birthday. There is nothing special about their construction, but they seem to be able to hold up to child's play. Although they have no educational value themselves, they encourage kids to pretend they are teaching. My daughter loves these pointers, and I enjoy sitting through her lessons on letters and numbers.
This works perfectly!! Students love using it and feel in control when they have the pointer. It's a great motivator when you hand it to a student and give him/her the chance to 'strut their stuff' in front of the class. I keep it atop the white board so it will always be available. It's an inexpensive, but unique way of keeping students engaged

I purchased one of these at my school's book fair several years ago. I was looking for a tool that would help students to use the Smartboard interactive white board. Sometimes students cannot reach the upper part of the board, making it impossible to activate the pull down windows. Also, I wanted to be able to use the board without standing in front of it or creating an obstruction (me)for students sitting to the right or left. This works perfectly!! It is a very fun way to help emergent readers follow along what you are reading to them. Also, the rule for using the pointers is that they can only use it to read; and you can belive me when I say that they love using the pointer and at the same time you make reading fun for them.Honest reviews on Learning Resources Hand Pointers, Set of 3

These are high quality and a great tool for the classroom. We use them on a daily basis and my students absolutely love them. They are just the right length for students to easily maneuver and use to track print on the walls around the class. They are not the cheap imitation pointers that you sometimes see, they will easily last for many school years to come. I will definitely be buying more of these, and will be recommending to teacher friends.Friday, July 18, 2014

This is a story about a bakers daughter who loves ballet and gets the chance to go to a real ballet preformace for her birthday. After the preformance she's dancing around and is approached by a teacher of an elite dancing school to attend her classes and she's able to go. She does really well and becomes the best student who preforms in her own recital.
In the back of the book there are the feet positions from ballet for girls to try on their own.
Even though it's recommended for 1st grade my sister got this book when she was four and still loves it at six.
The only downside... the pages tear so easily.
I would have preffered it more if the pages could not tear... and were made like the little touch books.
Other then that. Great product.

Magnetic Poetry Magnetic Poetry, Swedish Reviews
This is for someone who has an understanding of Swedish grammar, as you can add verb and noun endings separately. It is excellent to use if you are teaching someone else Swedish. I'm planning on taking my time and learning several new words a week. I have a basic understanding of the language, so this should help me to form sentences, etc. There are a ton of magnets, so it does include a wide range of vocabulary. I'm also a foreign language teacher.

Foam Magnetic Fraction Circles Reviews
These are made of thick foam with magnetic backing. When they arrive they must be "punched out", so to speak. This process was flawless, and none of the backing came off or tore. Though we bought them to supplement the Math we teach at home, our 4 kids have been playing with them since they arrived, which makes us very happy. They are very high quality and include the percentage and decimal equivalents of all the fractions. They stick to our whitboard without sliding, and they're easy to manipulate. These are an excellent tool to make fractions extrememly understandable. I highly recommend them.
They're fun to play with on the white board and the magnets are strong enough that the pieces don't slip. While this is meant for ages 6 and up, my preschooler is still able to grasp the concept that he has to use the right slices in the right quantity to make a complete circle and he's able to see how some combinations will do that and others will not. As he gets older, we'll also get to use the other pieces that come with the set: percentage, decimals and adding and subtracting. They're visually appealing, well made, and overall a great buy for understanding fractions!
Within MINUTES my twins were understanding fractions!
They are durable and hold well to any white board or fridge (or whatever)
This is one of the best educational manipulatives we have every purchased.
We will be using these for homeschooling.
It DOES seem like the numbers can and will wear off in time ..... but that is NOT a big deal at all.

My daughter received this for her 2nd birthday. I chose this as an introductory lacing activity for her, as the cards with wool are too advanced for her skills. She enjoys playing with the chunky wooden washing likes to hold it against her body as if trying it on! I thought she would need quite a bit of help to actually lace, but after only a couple of practice sessions, I think she's got the hang of it. The wooden needle is at least 2 inches long and thick, which is pretty easy to poke through the wide holes in the wooden pieces. It's a little harder for her to remove the items off the rope/line. I don't think she's as excited about this toy as I was (!), but it's good for fine motor skills and they can use the clothing articles for other imaginative play, too. Mind the cord as a strangulation hazard for younger siblings it's a lot longer than I anticipated.
liked it at first but then lost interest. I have come up with
some games so that interest can be rekindled. My biggest
complaint is that the paint began to chip off almost instantly.
This is a toy with pieces that are designed to smack into one
another; it should be sturdier. Otherwise, it is colorful and
eye catching.

We just received this item yesterday and she was very interested. I showed her how to do it and then she was on her way, stringing and unstringing. She is under the recommended age but was very able to do it and enjoy it with supervision. She spent a ton of time playing with it already and showing it to everyone. The 'needle' part was plenty long to go through the items and have enough where she could grab the other side. The clothesline motif is very cute. Overall well worth the purchase. I am an OT clinician. This is a great game for teaching visual motor skills, sequencing, organization, and fine motor skills. I find that children 6 and up enjoy it the most, but I do have some younger kiddos that will try it out too(with some help). The kids find it challenging, yet fun enough that they don't give up. That makes it a great educational toy!

I bought these after my son's Occupational Therapist used it with him at therapy. It is wonderful "game" to play to test patience and problem solving. I now play it with my younger son while we are waiting for appointments, etc. It is very packable and fun.Best Deals for Edushape Tricky Fingers
Because there are two games you can play with your child, and make it more fun. Great game for beefing up visual spatial skills. Highly recommend because it is fun to play so it will carry value.Honest reviews on Edushape Tricky Fingers
This game stays on the coffee table at our farm house. It is constantly picked up and played by family and visitors. It is also my "go-to" gift for people that are in the hospital or are recovering from surgery, sickness, or something of the like. All you need to be able to do is move your fingers and you are able to play! You simply lay out a pattern card and say, "Go!". The person able to manipulate the colored marbles into the same pattern as the card wins. Lots of laughter follows and it is extremely addictive! The more you play, the better you get.Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for Edushape Tricky Fingers
Our doctor suggested this game. I have used it at home as well as in a classroom. Great for fine motor as well as visual perception. It's nice to have 2 of the games boxes.
