Review of LeapFrog Tag "Woody" Hardware With Ozzie And Mack And Toy

LeapFrog Tag 'Woody' Hardware With Ozzie And Mack And Toy To The Rescue Mini-Book
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

My son got this as a gift for his 5th birthday (by parent request). Everytime we go into a store that has a Tag, he runs over and plays with it until I have to beg to leave. So, I thought it would be a wonderful gift to get ready for reading, and being Toy Story was an extra bonus! I am still happy with the Tag itself, but the Toy Story packaging is deceiving. There is not Toy Story Storybook included, but a 4 page Toy Story trial book; actually they call it a "Bonus Game Book". The manufacturer was kind enough to include a $3 off coupon on the purchase of the Toy Story Storybook. ;) The book that comes with the "Toy Story Tag" is Ozzie and Mack written by Trish Holland. It is a cute book and kept his attention (and mine) for a decent amount of time. It is well written and the story is in a rhyme pattern. He definitely enjoys playing the games in the book. Overall, I am happy with the product, just not with what I thought should have been included in the Toy Story Tag package.

Overall, we are very happy with the TAG system, However, we were very disappointed (as was our son) that this products Toy Story 3 theme was not carried out by including the actual Toy Story 3 TAG book. We priced the system and book separately and figured that this "combo" package would save us over $15; however, since the packaging clearly shows a Toy Story 3 "book" we thought we were getting the real deal. Instead we got Toy Story 3 lite: a mini-pamphlet which inlcudes a $3 coupon for the real storybook (thanks guys!). Unless you really need the TAG pen with Woody and the Toy Story 3 gang on it, I suggest buying the original TAG and Toy Story 3 book separately. And thanks again Leap Frog for suckering us parents into buying a TAG pamphlet, just so that we will have to buy the real TAG book later.

My five year-old son loves the TAG reader and the books that go with it. I would recommend it. BUT...buy it by itself because the Toy Story "book" is four pages of mediocre games.

My 7 year old boy loved this kit. He read through the book and did all of the experiments himself. My 9 year old girl also likes it. After using the kit, they both understand the basics of magnetism; how to make a nail into a magnet, why a compass points to the north, how the earth acts as a magnet etc. etc. Highly recommended!

Honest reviews on ScienceWiz Magnetism Experiment Kit and Book 22 Experiments

My daughter has hours of fun with this toy or rather science kit. There are lot of small experiments to understand concepts in magnetism. It is definitely worth for kids to play with this sort of experiments at early age.

✔ Has multiple projects, not just one

✔ Everything is in a compact box

✔ My daughter started exploring on her at age 9

✔ Highly motivational. As parents we should encourage and get right things for kids. This is in alignment with MAKER Faire philosophy that people need physical things also to explore and get them motivated on science and math. Highly recommended

The poster is bright, glossy, and came packaged well. It is a great, high quality poster. The colors are very accurately portrayed. I looked everywhere for a frame to fit it though and couldn't find this size. I think one store had a cheap, plastic black frame, but we were looking for something nicer. Finally, I broke down and purchased some frames I found here on amazon and am SO glad I did! We purchased two other eye posters (Disorders of the Eye and The Eye) to go in different rooms at an eye dr.'s office and they all fit these frames perfectly. They are: Craig Frames 76658953 20x26-Inch Picture Frame, Wood Composite, 2-Inch Wide, Textured Brown $30.99. They look SO good...very professional and will last a lifetime, I'm sure. Well worth the money for the frames. I will review the frames separately, but the one we chose is a dark, espresso brown.

I bought this disk for my son, and he was bored with it the first night. It does not have the educational value of the original Leo disk you get with the computer. I was disappointed that the science center was choosing a seasonal outfit for Emily Elizabeth. Four three piece outfits later, and you've seen all there is to see. The art center was the same basic thing as you get with Leo, only with different stamps and backrounds. Music was pretty much the same too. I was really dissapointed. I got it at Walmart for 18.99. Definitely would not pay that much again.

This turned out to be one of my Grandbaby's favorite toys. If your little one loves music they will love this.....perfect for quiet time and traveling in the car! When you open the bird's wing and push the yellow button it plays various classical selections!!! You can never go wrong with Leapfrog!

Purchased this for my 6 month old granddaughter. I think it is a cute toy, plays sweet music, has two modes of interactive play, on and off switch, high and low volume, has the peek-a-boo bird, and the teether rings on top. My grandbaby will listen to the music and likes to pick up the toy since it is small and manageable for a 6 month old's hand. She mainly likes to chew on the toy. When she is older I will introduce her to the educational activities that are sung for counting, colors, and finding objects. One can't go wrong with leap frog toys.

Edit: My granddaughter is 10 months and showing more of an interest in this toy. She like opening and closing the wing on the bird for peek a boo. I never paid attention to the fact there is a musical note on the bird's belly. When the yellow belly is pressed it will play 6 different classical tunes like Bach and Mozart. The classical music that plays a long time has made this toy an even better purchase.

This is a great product and that a decent price. My children fondly remember growing up of sea monkeys. We almost always lived in apartments and were not allowed pets. The fact that they could sort of grow them themselves made it really fun for them

We had the sea monkey portapet back then and the Aqua leash prove necessary.

This kit comes with an Aqua leash which is useful for many things. We would put an aerator stone for an aquarium at the end of it toaerate our tank.

You can order products you may need such as extra food which I would suggest you do early through sea monkeys.com on a mail order form.

The downside of that is yes they seem to be in the dark ages as far as ordering their products are concerned and it takes a really long time – – but you will receive your order in about six weeks if you follow all their directions.

The Red Badge Of Courage Review

The Red Badge Of Courage
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
This movie is a Matthew Brady photo come to life. While it is true that the leads, Audie Murphy and Bill Mauldin, were not professional actors, they were cast for their wonderful faces and the fact that they had actually been through a recent war. Considering what Murphy had been through, his innocence and boyishness is a joy to behold. And they are surrounded by pros such as Andy Devine, Bill Easton and Royal Dano as well as the usual Huston cronies. It has many moving vignettes the captured Rebs being questioned by their Yankee peers, Andy Devine, as the jolly soldier, leading Murphy back to his unit, the General falling to prayer before battle, Murphy confessing his cowardice to Mauldin, the General promising to have supper with the men, etc...

The narration was added later because the studio had no confidence in Murphy being able to convey the story. This was years before Hollywood understood how effective non-professionals could be if directed properly. The studio also hated the General's high-pitched voice and so dubbed in a different actor and, of course, the complete butchering of whole scenes which reduced the movie to about 55 minutes.

With all its faults, this is one of Huston's true beauties.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

John Huston directed this film adaptation of the famous Steven Crane

novel. As soon as it was finished, he left to work on The African

Queen, leaving the editing in the hands of the studio. But it was

1951, the height of the McCarthy era. There was a movement in this

country against anti-war films. And so the film was cut to a mere 69

minutes, which put it into the category of a "B" movie to be

shown only as a second feature. That was a full fifty years ago, and

in spite of the supposed butchering job on the cutting room floor, the

film definitely has stood the test of time. Of course I will never

know what the original was supposed to be. And I haven't even read the

novel. But I sure am glad I saw this video.

I understand that Steven

Crane wrote the book in 1894, which was a full thirty years after the

Civil War. He was 22 years old at the time and had never actually been

in a battle himself. He was trying to say something about war and

courage and human nature rather than about the specific war. And so

his work is unique among the vast body of writings about that awful

period of history that tore at the heart and soul of our

country.

Audie Murphy stars as The Youth and, with the exception of

Andy Devine who has a small role lasting no more than a minute, the

rest of the cast are unknowns. They all portray Union soldiers and we

first see them bored and anxious to fight a battle. They brag about

their courage and how they all intend to stand firm in the heat of

battle. The Youth has his doubts and the tension mounts as the

inevitable battle tests them all. Frightened, The Youth flees. Later

though, he returns and proves his manhood. The story is as simple as

that.

There is also a narrator in the story, reading excerpts from the

pen of Steven Crane. The language is beautiful and adds depth to the

simple conversations of the soldiers. The black and white photography

is grainy and much of it is shot in shadow, adding to the intimacy and

the authenticity of the film. There was a literary rhythm to it all

and it added intensity.

The role called for excellent acting and Audie

Murphy was perfect. I understand that in real life he won national

fame as the most decorated GI in WW2, winning 45 medals. He led a

turbulent life, plagued by what is now known as post traumatic stress

syndrome. A compulsive gambler, he won and lost fortunes, was addicted

to prescription sleeping pills and was once acquitted of attempted

murder charges stemming from a fistfight. But all that came later. In

1951, he was perfect for the role of The Youth. Recommended

Best Deals for The Red Badge Of Courage

The Youth (Audie Murphy) finds his first taste of battle to be more than he'd bargained for.

Although it's over fifty-years-old, John Huston's adaptation of Stephen Crane's THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE holds up remarkably well. Crane's novel of youth, written when Crane was in his early twenties, is an exploration of the nature of courage as measured in the crucible of battle. Civil War battle, to be exact. The Youth that's how he's listed in the credits along with the Loud Soldier (Bill Mauldin,) the Tall Soldier (John Dierkes,) and the rest of his regiment are marching to the battlefield shortly after the movie opens.

The `red badge' in the title is a battle scar, proof to the world and yourself that you have sufficient courage to belong. Whether that type of physical courage is today so highly and universally esteemed is debatable. Certainly Mauldin and especially Murphy, two still-youth heroes of the Second World War, won't resonate with later audiences. Mauldin enlisted in the army in 1940, and while in the service created the cartoon characters Willie and Joe, two average GIs fighting in Europe. Willie and Joe appeared in Stars and Stripes and won for Mauldin the Pulitzer Prize in 1945. Murphy was the most decorated combat American combat soldier of the war. Mauldin and Murphy's real-life courage was unquestioned, and Huston's use of the two in lead roles in canny. It adds a unique layer of immediacy and realism to the story.

There's a loose-limbed, deep focus, tight close-up look to the film that puts us under the skin of our universal Everyman soldiers. Murphy always seemed somewhat stiff as an actor, but here Huston keeps the dialogue short and concentrates on the darting eyes and pursed lips of the unproven youth. It works surprisingly well. THE RED BADGE OF COURAGE is famous as a butchered film, one the studios took from the director and cut by some twenty minutes. In fact, the running time for this one is a little over an hour, more suitable for a Boston Blackie episode than a major feature release. Huston, the story goes, was outraged but diverted by preliminary work on his next project, The African Queen. This is probably all so, but whoever did the re-cut knew what they were doing. The finished product is a trim, muscular story that benefits from its brevity.

Honest reviews on The Red Badge Of Courage

John Houston's story of a young Union soldier who overcomes his fear of battle is wonderful. Audie Murphy's portrayal is stirring and quite lifelike, the movie doesn't portray any super human motives, but a simple soldier who is quite naturally scared going into battle and overcomes his fear. However, Houston doesn't allow Murphy's character to get into excessive machoism either, as he finds out that many of his comrades did the same thing he did, turn and run. Had the movie execs not chopped this movie up, it could have been even better. As it is, it's a bit too short and lacking in details such as the battles portrayed in the movie patterned after a real battle. The unit portrayed isn't even mentioned until the end of the movie. It would have been fun to follow Murphy's character's unit through the war.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for The Red Badge Of Courage

One of John Huston's better films(and that is saying a lot) the studio re cut this into what he called "A ...damn mess." Well even in this mess a great masterpiece has been formed. Audie Murphy(World War II's most decorated hero and only in his teen's I believe) plays the youth of the story and brings more talent than anyone ever gave him credit for to the role. You see the fear of battle in him and you can feel it through the screen also. His reaction to cannon and rifle fire remind me of my uncle who served in Nam and how he reacted to the sounds of battle after that.In this day and age of DVD's someone should try to find the lost footage to this and re cut it like Mr. Huston wanted it done so we can all see that Mr. Murphy was more than just a hero, he was a very talented actor who wasn't given the due he should have gotten while he was with us.

I picked up this set of inflatables on Dec. 4th to use with my 5th graders who learn about weather as part of their science curriculum. It was a lightning deal for $20 at the time, so the current $10 is a much better price and would probably bump my personal review to 4 stars as I definitely take the entire value into account.

The clouds are interesting to the students. They enjoy holding them and anything that can grab their attention is a plus for me. It's a decent supplement after you've studied pictures and online resources with the students. The product mentions that it includes a fact guide, which simply gives a working definition for each of the 8 cloud types included and a quick matching activity and answer key. Some of the clouds only display their image on one side in order to allow more light to come through the inflatable, similar to the clouds themselves, which is an interesting touch. I haven't had to use the repair kit, but it's nice that there is one for each of clouds. Hooks and strings were also included and seemed servicable.

With a little work and creativity these inflatables can be an effective addition to a science lesson. They seem well made and have held up in the week that I have been using them. The pictures also aren't quite as vivid as the product image might suggest. Overall, they don't have a lot of staying power and are likely something that I will pull out to use with my students once or twice a year, with online videos and nature walks still being the best way to demonstrate different cloud formations.

They look less like clouds than we realized when they came (some of them sort of have a cloud design on one side of them, rather than being shaped LIKE the cloud they represent), and I'd like if there was an info sheet stating how high (respectively) these hang in the sky (just for ease my nine year old already knew, but otherwise I'd have had to look it up). Have them up in a corner of the room and everyone who comes in asks about them. Would purchase again for this price!

Cheap NEW Silver 4.5" F/8.8 Astronomy Reflector Telescope

NEW Silver 4.5' F/8.8 Astronomy Reflector Telescope
Customer Ratings: 4 stars
Buy Now
Lets be honest for a moment; This is a cheap telescope.

OK that's over with. Now more reality; You want to get into Astronomy but are on a budget. To build your own 4.5 reflector 'scope (the cheapest way to get one) you would need to buy quite a few components; Focuser, eyepieces, mirror mounts and secondary mirror at least. Those parts would cost $100 alone second hand or on ebay. That means you are left to making your own mirror ($30+ and a lot of work), making the tube, mounts and tripod. After weeks of work tracking down componants and construction where are you? Well if you are a skilled wood worker and have good metal working skills you may have a good 'scope. Or you have issues and are back to the drawing board. Now imagine buying this scope. In 30 minutes you are ready to stargaze. Fast forward, you are really into astronomy now and have discovered some of the short comings of an inexpensive 'scope. Well by now you know several things. You know what the short comings are and what is needed to fix them. You know you're into stargazing and it not a passing fancy. You got to know other stargazers and made "network" contacts. So now you can decide where to go. Buy a more expensive 'scope (2 or 3 times the price). Learn some skills to upgrade this one, get a better mirror, better eyepieces etc. Slowly as your budget allows, you have a fine 4.5 scope. Or you have decided to spend the $400 for a larger (6 inch) 'scope. Bottom line is if you don't have a lot of cash or want to make sure your interest is worth the expense this is the way to go. Scopewise gave me great communication and very fast shipping. The product was easy to assemble and set up, no tools required. (Though a phillips screwdriver and pliers can be handy for final "tweeks")

I got this model mostly because it looked like it had a good brainstem on it, and it was next to impossible to find an affordable brainstem model. I'm going to review the brain and head sections separately as a restult of this.

Brain= whole brain view is very good. You can see the gyri clearly and the brain anatomical relationships are preserved. The cerbellum is brown with less delineation of the vermis than I"m used to seeing, but it's not a very big deal, they just kinda drew a line on either side of it. On the exterior of the brain are the arteries. There are no meninges present. Looking at the ventral surface of the whole brain you can see the olfactory tract. The brainstem has a very obvious pons with the appropriate nerves coming out. They aren't all super clear but that's just like the real brainstem:) On pulling the brain apart you cut the 1/2 brain view. You can see the cerebellar tree appearance. The corpus callosum, lateral, 3rd, 4th ventricle, and cerbral aqueduct are there. It requires some imagination. Mamillary bodies and Pineal gland were not super evident. I think I do see something I'd call the superior and inferior colliculus. From this view you can see most of the normal sulci. The one lobe that doesn't seem completely right is the occipital lobe. I think this is because one of the attachements happens here, but I do not feel the calcarine fissure, and thus the ability to delineate the lingual lobe is adequate. I'll probably draw my own in with a permanent marker.

Overall this is a good brain model for what I wanted not fantastic, but it also wasn't super expensive,

Now onto the rest of the head. I also find it okay there are no nerves, but they might make it too busy. There are lots of the arteries and veins, and several muscles detailed. Unvortunately you can only pull of the sternocleidomastoid muscle on both sides and the zygomatic arch. You can Also pull out and insert the left eye and it has awesome muscles on it along with a lacrimal gland.

Most of the oral internal anatomy is also there. I'm not very good at identifying it perfectly, but I do see the concha which is one of my weak points.. Ah and I just noticed, I think it has a circle of willis lined out on the inside of the skull when you push it together.

From the vertebrae back it is solid, but with differing textures.

The esophagus and trachea are also visible with the epiglottis more visible on the left side. On the right side you can see the main tongue muscle, and on the left some of the glands. Overall I'm happy with this purchase. I would have preferred it to have more detachable muscles, especially the buccinator, but you can trace most of the arteries. My other big complaint is that there is not any thing under the sternocleidomastoid. I would have like to pull it off and maybe have a carotid sheath underneath it. YOu can see the trachea form the outside and it could help you learn how to distinuish that anatomy.

This is a good model for helping reinforce concepts you have already learned, but I would not recommend it as a primary study source due to its lack of nerves. It has the big relationships on it, and an amazing amount of detail for the price. You will not be able to use the skull to trace the nerves through the foramen.

I hope this helps some people!! Also it's fairly stable, and would probably be okay with curious little kids. It does have small parts, I'd probably take the eyeball and ear away before letting a younger child explor it.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I bought this to help with my anatomy class and it is way too small to be of use in learning the bones, muscles, vessels and nerves of the head and neck. It is very small and really is an educational toy for kids, not a model of use to a college student. I was hoping to save some money since the "real" models are expensive, but this ended up being a waste entirely.

Best Deals for 4D Vision Human Head Anatomy Model

It's smallish (size of a big fist), a little over-priced, but solidly made with hard molded plastic and some detail.

I wish it was a little larger and had more removable parts but it's quite educational if you use it to learn the various bones and tissues and brain parts of nature's most complex organ: the human head.

All ages can learn a little more about the human head in this tactile way but it makes an especially nice gift for young curious minds (or for a doctor's desk!) who can easily take apart and reassemble the parts to learn a little head anatomy.

Recommended for those looking for a thought-provoking, non-electronic and curious gift.

Honest reviews on 4D Vision Human Head Anatomy Model

The anatomy model of the human head is colorful and will definitley serve the purpose of teaching human anatomy to our adult learners. Most of our adult learners are visual and if they can see it and touch it, they can retain the image. Not the highest end product, but, of course we didn't pay a high-end price.
