This Monsters Inc. Leap Pad Books is my 6 year old son's hands down favorite! Although he has other leap pad books, this is the one he returns to time and again. He started by playing the games and then began reading along with the story. Highly recommended product, even fun for adults to play. !

Leap 2 Reading: Disney & Pixar's "Monsters, Inc." Review
Monsters, Inc. was a big hit with our family, so I had to pick this book up for my 4 year old daughter (even though it's recommended for 6-8). She loves this, and wants to play with it every day. A few of the games are hard for her, but mostly, it's no problem. She is a good reader, so the reading part is fine.

VTech - V.Reader Animated E-Book System - Pink Review
We were taking a trip to Central America and I wanted to get my 3 1/2 year old a new toy to keep her busy on the 6 hour flight. We had seen the vreader at Target and she always wanted to stop and play with it. She LOVED this toy. I really didn't like the idea of having to buy cartridges for each story, but there really isn't any other option for kid's e-readers. I bought her the vreader and 3 of the story cartridges to go along with it. We purchased Dora, The Little Engine That Could and Mr. Messy and the Missing Sock. What I like best about the vreader is you also have the option of buying an SD card and going on the vtech website to download books. The purchase of the vreader gave you 6 coins you could use to redeem 6 downloadable books. Loading the 6 books could not have been easier. Put the SD card in the slot in the back of the vreader by the batteries, hook up the mini USB cord (comes with the vreader) chose the books on the vtech website to download and a couple minutes later the books are on the SD card and ready to go. There are about 10 downloadable books available right now on the vtech website, including Seasame Street character books, although you may not use the free coins vtech gives you with the purchase of the vreader to download these books. Vtech says it will be adding more books soon.
This toy did reasonably well on battery life. The batteries lasted approximately 6-8 hours of non-stop play if you keep the backlight on the low setting. If you keep it on the brightest setting, the batteries only last about 2 hours. You can also purchase a AC adapter and a car plug instead of running on batteries. The vreader does not have a rechargeable battery like a Kindle. This is probably it's biggest drawback.
The vreader operates by touch screen with ease. The vreader comes with a stylus, but my daughter does not use it. She simply touches the screen with her fingers and has not had any problems working the book in this manner.
I love that the story comes with games as well. A lot of reading comprehension games, vocabulary and spelling games as well. I had fun playing the games with my daughter. She has a Leapster, but this holds her attention a lot more then that ever has. I would recommend this e-reader to anyone who has pre-school aged children. It is a wonderful, fun, and educational toy.
Features: This Vreader is amazing. It has a very beautiful screen, a stylus, and is so simple even the youngest of children will be able to locate their favorite part after a few trys. It is even a bit customizable, kids can choose their avatar from a list of options, choose a background theme, and it's simple to get back to the home screen when a child wants to. There are buttons that allow for page turning or kids can use the stylus. It is really a well built electronic device. Those little ones that use an itouch, or similar device, will navagate this in a breeze.
As a teaching tool: The system doesn't have many game/story options unless there is a cartridge in it, or unless a story was downloaded off the internet (onto a seperate SD card, at a small fee for the story). So, stand alone, the product doesn't do very much in the learning department. When you have a cartridge, like Dora Saves the Pigs for example, there is one story that can be read to the child, and/or there are many learning games that go along with the story. Easy to navigate and fun to play, and kids like the technology of it. The games are similar to the games with a Leapster game, all depends on the level of the game. Once more choices are available, I will be happier.
The reason I gave only 3 stars, is that when I compare cost with the educational value I find that we should be getting more learning and interaction with the device for the price. These are currently selling for close to $60, plus $20+ for a cartridge. That may not seem like a lot to some, but back in my day, to get my parent to buy a $100 nintendo system, that had a game I could easily play for months, was out of the question.
Ease of installation for the Leapster was much smoother than the VReader; both interfaces are similar where you can update, download content, check on progress and watch trailers of other games.
The VReader has a similar layout to a E Book Raader, it has an expansion slot for SD cards which that is where all your downloads go to; Leapster Explorer has no expansion slot but 512 megs of memory.
VReader only has 1 profile available to be set up; so if you have more then 1 kid; this is a big drawback, you can change the name for the profile; but it is still only 1. The leapster has room for 3 profiles and a guest.
VReader E-books are only animated with the cartridge titles and also offer after reading activities and games like 'What Happened', 'Sounds-A-Like', 'Rhymes', and also has a story dictionary. The E-books that are downloaded from their site have nice graphics but no animation and the after reading activity is a lot shorter so you get what you pay for; cartridge titles are from 17.99 to 19.99 and the downloadables are between 2.99 to 7.99 for the premium Sesame Street ones.
E-Books on the leapster explorer has no after reading activities; the layout is designed around the Tag system; however the games are much more interactive than the E-books from the VReader; you can also download 'Leaplets' which are the apps for the leapster.
Uploading the progress on the lapster gave me something even after a few minutes of play; it tells you what games or e-books have been played or read and how long they were played for. The VReader has not given me anything even after reading 2 different books and playing with the after reading activities; I believe is waiting for a certificate which at this time I don't know what is the benchmark.
VReader has a Stylus much like the Sony Reader; but has no lanyard, so it can be misplaced very easily; the leapster explorer has also a stylus which is attached to the device by a lanyard which can be placed on the right or left to acoomadate left handers.
Overall both systems are very nice; I would rate the VReader with a 3.5 and the Leapster Explorer with a 4.5 just missing the 5 just because it is not backward compatible with the previous leapsters (the cartridges are different size) and has no expansion slot. I would come back and add more after a few days of playing with my children.

We are HUGE Leapster fans. All of my children, now 13, 12 and 3 have had a system or more from them. Now, I just got started in the Vtech learning games/toys and the like. I saw this at the store a few times and looked at it, and considered purchasing, except I thought the price was a bit steep. This is the first time that we bought two different systems for our children (4 & 5). We thought both systems would feed in each other weak areas. Both of our children like both systems. I believe that the leapster explorer is more sophisticated and advanced product given that you can find both systems for the same price. We got this for my daughter and she absolutely loves it...it's one of the few things that holds her attention and is extremely easy for her to use. I was going to write a glowing review, but let me leave you with this: this morning, while getting breakfast ready, I asked her if she wanted to watch playhouse disney, her answer, "no I wanna use my book reader." Little Tikes Discover Sounds Cell Phone Review
We just got this cell phone (rated for 6+ months) for our 11 month old son about a week ago.
Durability:
It has been dropped from heights, thrown across the room, beaten onto the cement outside, and drooled on a lot. And I can't find a scratch on it. It's very durable.
Sound:
This toy is much quieter than many other child toys we have. This is a huge thing for us since some toys just seem SO loud. It has a child saying the numbers when the numbers are pressed and has three set sounds for each of the green and red phone buttons.
What my child thinks:
I know this is still his newest toy but my son seems to like it very much. He gets ahold of my cell phone about half as much since we got this one. He likes dragging it around with him so that must be a five star infant rating!
*EDIT* We've had this phone for 3 years now and had to change the batteries recently for the first time. It still works great and after being not played with for many months, it's become a new/old favorite for my son to play pretend. I expect it will last through both our kids.

This phone interested my 1-1/2 year old for about a day and has been collecting dust ever since. It just can't compete with the real thing. The sound effects are also very quiet and hard to hear. Stellanova IQ Physical Quiz Globe Game Review
This is my first negative experience with Amazon. I ordered a physical mini globe and had to return it THREE times, because they always sent me a political one (with color-coded countries), not the physical globe that is depicted in the image. The globe itself is of very good quality, though, but not what I am looking for.

information. I would not purchase this item again.
It's cheaply made, that's why it's cheap -$20.00.
Comes with gainful, knowledgeable questions, in 5 NICE sets of quiz cards.
The globe is really quite detailed for its' size, with a true "global" field of view -except for a narrow fixed grey strip around the circumference of the equator!
The con: I ordered a PHYSICAL globe: not POLITICAL.
Next time, please ship what I order, or tell me what to order to get what I want; because, my 10 year old kid won't want the same one again!

My five month old son loves this cube! The bright colors, bold prints, variety of textures, and toys tucked away in the cube make for lots of entertainment. My little one (5mo) loves to play with an iPad. Case seems strong and solid and the film protects from drool. However, the included QR code (in the manual as well as inside the case) contains a URL to Fisher-Price's webpage that is simply empty. It took me some time to fish out those apps from the iTunes store but it wasn't easy as F-P released tens of apps on iTunes. I finally found the apps that can take advantage of the included "stampers" that have unique touch pattern on the bottom. Very cool idea! Waiting for my daughter to grow up to use the stampers, she's right now at the level of touching laughing random baby faces :) Again one star off due to F-P's not working QR codes :/ Hope their IT will fix it soon!

Customer review from the Amazon Vine ProgramThis is probably the largest and most solidly constructed iPad case available. It certainly lacks in portability, but that's the point when subjecting a relatively fragile piece of electronics to babies and young toddlers.
iPads 1, 2, 3, and 4 fit nicely inside the unit and are protected by a plastic frame and "drool proof" screen protector that snap into place very securely. iPad minis and whatever new iPad might come after the fourth generation device will likely not fit inside. A large plastic stand snaps securely into place to angle the entire contraption towards the child. I recommend setting the stand in place and securing the iPad prior to your child touching things as it's possible to get their fingers caught as things very loudly (and securely) snap into place.
The packaging and product description refer to two free apps that accompany the product. Unfortunately the QR codes they provided to link to those apps currently don't work, so I was only able to find one of the apps. The apps work with the included shape stampers that each have a unique pattern of capacitive dots that allow the app to display the shape that's physically pressed against the screen. Four shape stampers are included.
A snap on panel is stored at the bottom of the unit for more tactile play. It can be snapped in over the iPad screen and offers a more tactile experience for the shape stampers.
Overall this is a great way for little ones to enjoy an iPad.

Cheap Molecular Models 214 Piece Organic and Stereochemistry Set
The model kit is great because it has a high number of carbons and hydrogen. The main problem with the kit is that it feels unorganized it would of been nice to have a couple partitions inside the box to keep my elements and bonds organized. Also it would have been better if the all the hydrogens were full globes instead of the semi-circles that come with the kit. Aside from those two minor points the model kit is great for its intended purpose.
The models are very poorly made. I thought they are going to be stiff and easy to handle, but they are made from very cheap plastic that breaks really quickly.

This model set is great! The box is about 8 1/2 long, 4 inches wide and about 2 inches thick. It is lightweight and easy to carry around whenever you need it. If you want a "bigger" picture, this is better to use than other model kits, which are thin and look like toothpicks and peas. It's easy to put together and breakdown. Most of the spheres are the size of a nickel and a few are about the size of a dime. Discount Fraction & Decimal Tiles in Storage Bag; 51 Tiles Set; no. CTU7673
I am a math teacher and I was looking for a manipulative to help my students develop a better understanding of equivalent fractions. These worked well especially with an Elmo to project their image on a white board. The bright colors also made for a better visual. The tray would have been nice to help keep things aligned when demonstrating equivalent fractions but it really isn't needed. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for a math classroom or for anyone learning fractions.

The camera is a great toy, but the description is inaccurate. The camera I received came with only three discs (nursery rhymes, animals and their babies and goldilocks). Also, the image quality of the discs could be better, they look aged with spots and lines, not just retro. The alignment of the pictures in the picture viewer is also not perfect.

The picture discs sometimes slip in the lens because the catch that turns the disc does not engage properly, so they don't turn and get kind of stuck. It makes the button hard to push and it takes a few pushes to right the disc. Anyways this all amounts to poor quality materials and care put into building the product. But my daughter still likes to run around and tell everyone "Say cheese." I may look into a play digital camera. I really wanted her to like the same toy I loved as a child.Sunday, August 31, 2014

We bought this for our 4 1/2-year old son and we live in MA. There is one button (unlabeled) for CT/MA/RI/NH/VT. At least Maine got its own button. Ridiculous. How am I supposed to educate my son about where we live when every time he asks "Where's this?" for New England locations, I have to point to the same button???
Also, the white letters on each state are applied cheaply. California was already peeling off when we pulled it out of the box.

I bought the Britannica Talking USA Puzzle for my 8 year old nephew and he loves it! The colors are bright and the "talking" part is fantastic. It names the state, the state capital and the state motto for all 50 states. It also sings America the Beautiful and says the Pledge of Allegiance. This product is great for everyone, not just our kids. Even my hubby and I have remembered some state capitals we'd forgotten. (It's been a long time since we were in 4th grade geography!) The fact that it's a puzzle really helps our kids learn the locations of each state. The manufacturer must have already fixed the mispronunciation that one reviewer had in theirs because the sound effects in ours are clear and correctly pronounced. This is really a cool toy to help our grade schoolers get a jump on their education, which if you ask me, is a wonderful perk in any toy! We bought this for my 3 year old at christmas and he loves it!! It says the pledge of allegiance and sings america, the beautiful. He has almost memorized both! I love how when he puts the puzzle piece in, it says the state's name, nickname, capitol. My son is picking up the names fast and knows which state we live in. I thought maybe he would get bored with it, but I think the sound effects help keep him interested. We love our map puzzle. I bought it for my first grade classroom and now my own toddlers are using it to learn the states. It has lasted for years, and is a great teaching tool. The only flaw I can see is that it has a handle, so kids want to pick it up like a suitcase to carry it. But, then all of the puzzle pieces fall out!
