I do not believe in hand held games or video games for children. My mother is the one who went against my wishes and purchased this for my daughter Christmas 2008, that's right 2008. Knowing my feeling on this subject my mother came armed with newspaper articles, e-articles, and an educational magazine. Due to my stubbornness it was an entire year before I loaded the software on my computer. With that being said I am glad my mother purchased this for my daughter (age 8) as I never would. Didj is not a hand held game or video game, it is an awesome educational tool. I love it! The Didj includes a feature on its "Leapfrog Connect" in which I can upload her spelling words and choose her math facts and language arts skills by grade and then again by specific skills. In order to continue to the next level she must answer a series of educational questions, this motivates her because she earns micromods. Micromods are equivalent to money/tokens in which she downloads "extras" for each game. For example, she has downloaded a pet for Sonic and a new computer for Nancy Drew and a Karate move for Spongebob. I have purchased another six educational tools; Nancy Drew, Nicktoons, Neopets, Tinkerbell, Super Chicks, High School Musical and a free download from Leapfrog Jet Pack Heroes. I can't seem to say enough about this valuable educational tool. My daughter is studying her math facts and spelling words without me telling her "It's time to study".

These are wonderful for young children. We have a half-dozen now and use them for basic music lessons. The kids love to bang and shake them. We purchased our initial tambourines roughly a year ago and they have held up well after daily usage. The plastic pieces, including the clear head, are all very durable. They are sized perfectly for kid's hands, although I can also play on one of them without much difficulties.

I'll definitely buy other instruments from this brand.

The Tambourines were great, they fought over who would get one. I only bought 4 at first. The only problem that I had with them was the age group was too young. I have 2 through 4 year olds. The one 4 year old's tiny fingers went right between the metal and the plastic and the metal is so sharp, that getting the tiny fingers out was a bit trying. Bandaids all around. But, the kids learned quickly that the fingers don't go there. One boy put it on the ground and stomped the plastic center out. This is bad, because then the plastic middle now had sharp edges and the tambourines had to be put away until I could pull off the center plastic. (Needle nose plyers) My advise to the company who makes these tambourines would be: just leave off the center plastic all together. There's no need for it. They wanted to make that part a drum. Keep it simple and get rid of the plastic center immediately on arrival. The product is great, makes great sound and kids love them. Just not under 5.

I purchased this diary as a birthday gift for my daughters classmate. She LOVES horses and this just seemed like a good fit! She is 8 years old and now LOVES to write about her daily adventures in her private diary. The lock is an added bonus so her little sisters can't see her private thoughts! My daughter (13 years old) and I were going through my closet and we ran across some of my old diaries. After that, she started expressing an interest in wanting to keep a journal/diary of her own. She loves horses so I thought this would have been perfect.

When it arrived, I was not too impressed with how it looked. The picture is printed on there and looks really cheap. The colors are off and just has a really cheap look to it.

The locking mechanisim is plastic so I dont see how it will hold up very long. They certainly dont make them like they used to.

Also, when she opened it for the first time, the binding separated from the spine of the book. The pages held together and stayed stuck to the glue binding, thankfully, but I am worried they too will start to fall out.

I am a little disappointed in how this is made. My daughter seems to like it but I have to say I was a little let down by it and am already looking for a replacement for her.

This toy is a little different from the run-of-the-mill toy where you press a button or move a lever to get something to pop out. A couple reasons this is different: 1) there is an added feature where you press down the pink lever on the side so that the characters get mixed up and sent to different windows. the also spin around in circles which is fun for the baby/kid to see when the windows are open. 2) elmo asks you to try to find certain characters so that is a fun "challenge." the characters themselves also talk (say hello, goodbye, tootaloo, etc). Very cute and really not overly annoying. I really like this toy... the only thing I don't like is the angle that the baby/kid has to hold it in order to play it. it is a flat toy but it has to be held at a 45 degree angle for play. sort of hard for a baby to hold it at that angle and press the buttons and move the levers etc at the same time. really need help from an adult. my 3 yo can do it fine, but my 14 month old can't.

This is a well-designed and somewhat more original toy than many out there, asking kids to think a bit about where they can find the various characters. The fact that there are four characters but only three windows adds a fun, unpredictable factor. So we allowed our son to open up his first gift from Santa a bit early, because we wanted him to have something new to play with on the airplane ride to Grandma and Grandpa's house in Miami. So we gave it to him, and boy oh boy was he excited! But we were less than thrilled. First of all, there is no off switch. This toy is extremely LOUD, and there is no volume switch either. And it goes off at the faintest movement. If it's on a table and you are walking too close to it, if the table senses your vibrations, Elmo pipes up loudly to invite you to play. We were hoping a volume switch would exist, at the very least. But nothing. Its voice is BOOMING. More upsetting though, is that we ordered it from this seller here on Amazon instead of buying it at a store, because it was cheaper than the one at Target. But when it arrived, we noticed instantly that we got a dud. When Elmo says to our son "Can you help Elmo find Big Bird? Where is Big Bird?" and he opens up the correct door to see Big Bird's face sitting there, Elmo says to him "Noooo... you found ERNIE!" and then the voice of Ernie says "HI THERE!", or whatever it says. You get the idea. When Elmo says "Can you tell Elmo who is behind door number three?" and he opens it and it's Abby Cadabby, you suddenly hear cookie monster's voice shout "HELLOOOO!!!" and Elmo says "YOU found COOKIE MONSTER!". And so on. The characters are wrong about 80 percent of the time, even when my son gets the answers right. The one he played with at the Target when he first saw this toy never did this. So clearly, we got a dud. We are going to return this one, and go buy it at Target (for more money, but at least we can test it out a few times to make sure we get one that actually works right). My poor son is so confused! He's almost two, and he really gets frustrated when he gets the answer right and Elmo says he was wrong. Not to mention when he hears the wrong character's voices emerge from the character behind the door almost every time. He ended up throwing the toy and crying. So sometimes you are better off paying a few dollars more to get a product from a store that you can investigate and test out yourself before paying. Lesson learned.

Original Review: We saw this while at a Target shopping for holiday gifts recently. I handed it to our toddler (21 months old) while he sat in the seat of the shopping cart. He became addicted to playing with it, feverishly pulling the lever over and over again to try to find the characters. It reminded me of watching the little old ladies at the local Casino slot machines for hours on end. He couldn't get enough of it. At one point we tried to take it from him, because we weren't going to buy it. But he went ballistic. So we handed it back to him and finished our shopping in peace. He played with it for so long and so hard that he fell asleep in the cart! It wore him out! We put it back on the shelf and added it to the Amazon wishlist of presents he will get for Christmas from Santa. ;)

He later saw one at a friend's house while on a playdate, and didn't want to leave without it. It's insane, how much he loves this toy. We can't wait for him to open his very own on Christmas morning!

My 18 month old loves this toy! He sits with it and opens the windows over and over and just laughs hysterically when the characters change. I dont know if he is just easily amused, but he loves it and that speaks volumes to me! I think it is a nice toy for the little ones and it's definitely worth the price. The only thing I don't like about it is that the audio is very repetative, but that is pretty much the same with most childrens' toys...totally a personal issue! Overall, a nice toy and pretty durable as well.

Buy Prince Lionheart Whirl Balance Scooter

We bought this for our daughter's 2nd birthday. I am new to Amazon and love the fast shipping that's free with the Mom account so I figured I'd go with Amazon over BRU for the item. I'm glad we did since we had to send back the first bike. The frame was damaged on the inside which we noticed after it was all put together. The return was very easy which was great, we had a new one two days later.

Installation is very easy and takes about 30 minutes, it comes with everything in the package. With both bikes, the front 'light' was dinged with the paint and even though we wanted a perfect one it wasn't worth sending it back when both had the same ding.

The actual scooter is adorable although the seat is kind of a cheaper material, but still nice. The pink color is very cute.

We also purchased a bell and the Bell Fraction helmet from Amazon in pink to go with her new scooter. We hope our daughter will love this!

We got this for our daughter's 2nd birthday when she began showing interest in bikes, unfortunately just weeks before I had snagged a tricycle from a friend for her as well. She enjoyed the ease of being pushed on the trike better than having to push herself on this. She really loved it when we pushed her around on it, but most attempts do it herself resulted in her crying for us to push her (to be fair, she's not too big on the whole "do it yourself" thing if she thinks she could get hurt).

She tells me she likes the bike (as she spotted me typing the review), but her actions don't show it well. I think she'll start liking it more this year when the novelty wears off the trike (she can now pedal and steer herself on it so she will be wanting 2 wheels soon... I hope.)

Even if the original recipient never digs it, we have another little girl now that might end up enjoying it in a few years, so the investment will hopefully not be lost.

For reference, our daughter was 36" at the time of purchase, she's about 2-3" taller now. She was able to ride it on mostly tip toes at first (more width than height), now it fits her better (meaning she looks more comfortable while attempting it), and it's still on the lowest setting.

This bike is now my daughters favorite thing to do as soon as she gets outside. It did take a little while to move from the tricycle to this. So it may take a few days but if you persist it will quickly become a favorite and now she just glides along. It is a little heaver than a simple frame balance bike but not to much and I've had to carry it up hills a few times. But the quality is superb, the tires are solid and the wood frame seems very durable. I do keep it inside though so I'm not sure how it would hold up to weather, but surviving a 3 year old is a solid test in my book!

I purchased the boys version for my son a while back and he loves it! I had to get this for my 3 year old daughter after she tried a bike with training wheels and did not like it. She took a couple of weeks to really get good on it, but now she can really go. It's so neat to see my 3 and 2 year olds showing great balance and loving riding these balance bikes. I would never suggest training wheels to anyone after seeing how natural these bikes work to teach balance and bike handling. Seems to be well made. It even survived a scuffle with my trucks front tire. Stronger than you might think. I do make an effort to keep them inside and not to let them get wet!

Update 7/2013 My daughter is now 5-1/2 and has graduated to a new pedal bike with 16" wheels. It was really easy to transition too from this balance bike. All it took was a few laps around the cup-de-sac with me holding the back of her shirt while she learned to pedal. There seems to be a little bit of new balance required to learn when going slow on a bike that the steering can turn fully. This balance bike only allows a limited perhaps 30 degree Left and 30 degree Right turning. Your kids will need to learn to pedal and balance but it shouldn't be that hard for them to accomplish because they will have learned the fundamentals of balance very well with these.

The seat is attached and adjusted in height via two pins that hold the seat posts in place. This seat post in more like a saddle shape than a single central post. One side of my daughters seat post broke and I had to repair it. The seat posts are made from a single piece of perhaps 3/8" thick plywood that is bent into an upside down U shape. One side had bent and broken in half. I used wood glue and pieces of shipping packing paper that sometimes comes with my Amazon shipments. I reinforced the broken area with a paper machete type of patch. It worked great. The seat is still fine today after over a year of riding on the patch.

We are really attached to these bikes and I guess I will have to make sure they go to a special new home. I hope the new owners get as much fun and enjoyment out of them as we did!

I'm sure there are more exciting toys out there. Many of the "tricks" are probably something you could do with things around the house. But the question is... would you? I wouldn't. It's all here in a kit. He took it in his room and holed up and had a blast with it. Then he came out and showed me every single trick in the kit and that was even more fun. He really liked it. He's into science and inventing things. It's not the most amazing toy on Earth but I think it was well worth the money for how much fun he had with it, even if it's not necessarily ALL that special if you break it down.

My 3.5 year old son was so excited to get his very own camera "just like Mommies!". He is a budding photographer and even though at the young end of the suggested age range, quickly picked up on how to operate and use the Showcam. He gets such a kick out of the faces and effects. I really like the idea and ease of use, but feel the picture quality is really lacking. With today's technology, this camera should be able to produce at least an 800px wide image along with perform better indoors. Even in a room with 4 windows and sun shining in at every direction, 90% of the photos come out blurry or too dark to view. I realize this is just a "toy", but at the same time its very discouraging to the child user and they lose interest quickly when they are unable to to see anything but a dark blob for a person's face. Take the camera outside on a sunny day and it performs much better.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program My son is a bit of a camera snob. He's 'broken' at least one of my older point and shoot cameras, so he's on lock-down with kid cameras for a while.

We previously used the VTech Kidizoom Digital Camera, which is about comparable to the Playskool one in terms of functionality (though our Vtech has a flash and the Playskool does not), picture quality (both are pretty 'awful' even with bright daylight) and durability (though I think the Vtech edges this one out).

I think the controls on the Playskool are much easier for a preschooler to operate (my son is 3.5yo), and the shutter 'speed' is quicker with this camera.

But the best thing you get for the $10-15 extra bucks you'll pay for the Playschool camera is the projector capability. My son loves it. The image is presented on a weird grid-like backdrop, but it's clear that it's the picture he took. He likes that immediate large-scale gratification.

I'm not bothered by the lack of a USB cable since most of us have millions floating around.

Overall, cute, not disappointing, but not amazing either. I wish someone would make a kids camera that had slightly better picture quality. Kids do manage to take some interesting photos from time to time, but the resolution on these cameras leaves MUCH to be desired.

I own dozens of "Melissa & Doug" toys for my children and they are all fabulous. This one though, as the other reviewer stated, is fairly difficult to use for younger children. The pieces stack on little pegs, but the pegs are slightly off center, so they will only stack facing one direction. My kids lose interest fairly quickly with this one because they take it apart and then can't put it back together again.

My 3-year-old son recieved this toy for his first birthday, and I ordered it for a first birthday party we're attending this weekend. I specifically ordered from this seller and paid about 40% more because the item they have pictured is the older model that my son has, not the patterned newer version sold everywhere else. The older version of the toy is bigger and more substantial, and doesn't have the sharp corners and cheap, sloppy paint and look of the new version. I was very disappointed when the package arrived, and I recieved the newer model. Now it's too late to order something else for the party, so I will have the added hassle of going to a store to find a gift, as well as returning the toy. Sellers need to be honest about the product they're selling!

I purchased the AmScope 3.5X-180X INSPECTION TRINOCULAR STEREO ZOOM MICROSCOPE along with the LED light ring. I have found that the halogen bulbs get extremely hot, both the bottom and top and do not generate enough light for viewing various items when in full zoom. Because the scope is new the original halogen bulbs and lamps will create a plastic burning smell due to the amount of heat they produce. I assume this smell will go away over time. The LED produces little to zero heat and produces a white light instead a warm yellow light. Highly recommend the LED light.

My primary use of the light and scope is to capture photos and video of freshwater lifeforms and plants for the show Talking Scuba.

If doing DSLR photography or video using the AmScope SLR / D-SLR Camera Adapter for Microscopes I have found that additional LED lights may be necessary to get enough light for a good exposure without bumping up the ISO. Be prepared to setup additional LED lights on a stand to get proper exposure. When using my T3i I found that there was so much light on the subject to the naked eye it look almost white but in the camera it had normal exposure.

I received this item and have used for 3 weeks. I like this 144-LED microscope ring light as it saves space and provides enough luminosity for procedures under stereomicroscop. In addition the price is good.
