My 7 year old son just got this and can't put it down. I haven't looked through it thoroughly yet because he's keeping it locked up and secret, but some of what I saw was fill in blank stuff like "name the last thing you threw up" or "what would you say to an alien?". Stuff like that. He's pretty into it, and loves that he can lock it up safe from his sisters! I'm getting one for his cousin too so they can 'compare notes' if they want. I recommend for any boy!

When my 8-year-old picked up a copy of this at his school book fair, I was convinced I wasn't going to like it because I'd rather he spend the money on actual books. Was I ever wrong! He sat down for a half hour after school every day until it was filled, carefully completing entries and putting actual thought into them. OK, so the questions aren't as weighty as "how would you create world peace," but it's a start, and it's far more of a start than I've ever seen him make willingly with school writing assignments. I subsequently ordered Dude Diary 1 for both him and his 6-year-old brother, as well as a copy of Dude Diary 2 for his brother. I'd quickly order more editions if they were available.

I have gifted these diaries to several of my kids friends this year, along with a book or two and EVERY parent has immediately emailed to rave about how much their son loves, loves, loves it! It is a great gift for the parent who would like to avoid buying nerf guns, video games, or action figures for their kid's friends. My boys covet the little keys to keep their dude diaries private. This is a fun advent calendar for Halloween. It is simply a cardboard calendar to hang on the wall. There is no chocolate in it or anything, but we like it that way so it can be reused for a few years (depending on how it holds up to my young kids). It is beautifully decoratedmy kids love it. There is a "door" that opens for each day to count down with a little rhyme/poem/statement/riddle inside and a picture. It is great for the price (if I paid over $5 for this then I would expect more, but for around $5, it is a fun treat for my kids).

I've never seen an advent calendar for Halloween before so I snatched this up. For the price it is pretty good. The art is exactly as pictured; which is why I had purchased it.

I had thought it was on a cardboard background so it could stand up but this has to be hung from something. My major qualm with it is that the numbers are hard to see and since they aren't in any particular order it makes it difficult to chose the door to open.

SO tightly into it's socket, that it was VERY hard to remove again and the wing broke off, unfortunately. Nicely sculpted and painted. However, I wonder why the price on this model is higher than the hercules beetle, by the same company?! In any case, I'm hoping this company will release many more animals, done in the "see through" fashion! LONG overdue (from ANY model/toy manufacturer)is: a large cat (saber tooth?), a giraffe, a bat, a turtle....so many more, that would also be fun! Let's hope, huh?!

I could not find a book like this locally so when I found it online, I was happy. Although this book contains the tasks I wanted, it is falling apart with the first use. The little ribbons and velcros are not attached well when I received it. It requires hand sewing to better anchor them. Aside from that, It is a great "quiet" time activity and only used for those special times to avoid it being an "everyday" toy and become boring.

My son actually looks at this thing in the car or somewhere that he has to be quiet. He likes to tinker with things and there are lots of things to tinker with like buttons, snaps, buckles, Velcro, ties, etc.

As other reviews stated it's an excellent idea, educational and fun. However, when I received the book I was unpleasantly surprised. The quality of the fabric, stitching and other parts is incredibly low. It look like something you would find at a dollar store cheap and not lasting. For the asking price I was expecting much, much better quality. Also due to the poor quality of materials is is not lasting long, in several days stitching was falling apart and fabric was covered in lint pills.

We bought this for our 16 month old and she liked looking at it but not nearly as much as our 3 and 4 year old did. :-) They have all gotten a lot of fun out of it. It has held up pretty well considering, but some of the seams on the pages have started to come apart. I expected more for the price but I am still happy that we bought it.

The snaps are littte and a too hard for small hands. It is made pretty well..but one balloon already detached.

Right now she mostly likes the zipper and the page where you feel fabric.

These worked great...the kids loved them. I did try using smaller bottles so it would be easier for the kiddos to use, but it did not work as well. So I had to use the big 2 liter bottles. It did make it difficult for the 1st graders to turn over on their own...but they eventually got the hang of it. There was a bit of water leaking out, so I just put a towel on the science table and it was no biggy. Worth the price to liven up the science table a bit!

This is a great game. I would not recommend it for children under 4 unless your child is just extremely advanced. My 4 yo can play some areas of the game easily, but the word areas are more difficult and he becomes frustrated. BUT for kindergarteners this game is just right. My 6 yo is learning a lot, and unlike other learning software, she doesn't mind playing it because it's fun and of course there is the very cute and charismatic Sponge Bob.

The goal of the game is to get ingredients to make a new secret sauce. Upon completing the different areas of the game you are given some of the ingredients to make the sauce. So the children get the sense of reward for all of their work. That's been enough motivation for my daughter. It teaches counting, math, letters, word building, and there's music (I'm probably leaving a few things out) It's wonderful, a must have for all leapster owners.

I saw this item on several websites with a recommended age of 3-6 years. I bought it for my son today (he got the leapster for Christmas) The age recommendation on the box is 5-8 yrs. My son is 4 and although he likes Sponge Bob, he told me he can't do it & asked me to play the games while he watches. Even the level 1 games are conciderably more difficult than the games on the cartridge that came with the toy. One section involves counting coins. I'm sure he will "grow into" the games and learn them from watching mehe sits on my lap while I play. I would definitely recommend this one for a slightly older child.

The idea of this game is that the child helps Sponge Bob collect ingredients to create a new secret sauce. The animation is cute, but the games are too easy (my son is 4) and it takes too long to collect the ingredients. Once enough ingredients are collected, the child then gets to play "kitchen chemistry" which is not much fun. The child can either guess at the recipe or tap or SpongeBob to get it. Patrick does the taste test and it is funny to watch his reactions, but "kitchen chemistry" is just not exciting, interesting nor challenging enough to keep the child coming back for more.

In addition to "kitchen chemistry", the cartridge has four other games:

"Counting Claw": Has 3 levels, deals with counting change. the child sticks coins into a slot until he has put in the right amount. My son blindly sticks the coins in the slot until SPongeBob reacts. Then he enjoys playing the claw machine game and the wacky prizes that come out. But he learns nothing.

"Conveyor Chaos": Very similiar to the bunny game that comes with the leapster system. Done a little better, but not very versatile.

"Musical Garden": The child only has to play with assorted sea music until the timer runs out. The child's symphony is not played back. Music appreciation?? Whatever.

"Bubble Scrubber": The one redeeming game on this cartridge. Unfortunately it only deals with 4 letter words. And there is nothing to entice the child to try more challenging levels. I did get my son to start using level 3 instead of 1 by playing it with him and now he prefers level 3. Although I do know the value of repetition, a few more words would be nice.

After experiencing First Grade (which is still my son's favorite), I was disapointed. This game is only mediocore.

I love all of the Leapfrog products so this was very exciting to see. I had considered buying my 5 year old a Gameboy Advanced but I really didn't care for how small the viewing screen is or it's size in general. For someone of her age, the Leapster has a larger screen and buttons that are easier for her to control and handle and the graphics are very good. It also uses touch screen / PDA technology so she can write right on the screen. I love how they incorporate the concepts from games like "Frogger" into a game with a rabbit and developing multiplication problems. It's fun to play and learn from.

I don't feel that this is as fragile as a gameboy advanced either so that's why I felt that this toy deserved a 5 star worthy rating.

Overall, I think this is a really great, first time electronic game for a child of my daughter's age (5).

I highly recommend this Spongebob cartridge for the Leapster system! My little boy is a big spongebob fan and on Christmas morning he got from Santa a leapster and some Leapster games, of course Spongebob is one of his favorites. My little boy is almost 4 and he completely understands each game included on the spongebob cartridge and in the 3 months we have had this game he is already going to higher levels with the game. It teaches while letting your child have fun and that is what is the most important, if your child is having fun while learning they will continue to keep learning!

This spongebob cartridge teaches the values of money, colors, music game and more. The voices sound the same as on the cartoon and it keeps my little boy intrested in playing it still after 3 months he plays this game on a daily basis!

I would suggest this leapster cartridge for all!

Woodpecker Baby Walker - Plan Toys Reviews

This is so cute. It's big for my 7.5 month old, but she is already trying to walk. I searched for dimensions everywhere, but no luck. If you need them, floor to top of the handle is 20 1/2 ", at it's widest, it is 13 1/4" and it is 19" deep. The noise of the woodpeckers is nice. It's noticible, but not annoyingly loud. I'm not sure how effective the mechanism is for slowing down the speed at which a baby can walk. It seems you can either let the wheels go all the way or not at all. I didn't find much of an in between. Very easy to assemble. I was disappointed that some glue was showing its clear glue, but just looks a bit sloppy. Overall, I am very please and this is much nicer than some others out there.

I love that this walker is wood and that it has a retro feel. That said, I'm not sure it was worth the money. First of all, when it arrived, one of the clicking flaps had broken off. We had to re-attach it with wood glue. Also, we have some carpet in our house and even with the knob completely loosened, my daughter usually tips it forward when she tries to push it there. On the tile, it works great, but carpet, not so much. Plus, she can unscrew the knob completely and take it off. I haven't found it in her mouth yet, but I'm sure I will. I still like the toy because it's so unique. And I want to love it, but I can't say I do.

This toy looks better in person than it does on the website. I was very apprehensive about spending $70 on a toy without examining it in person. Where to begin...you can't tell from the picture but there are two "legs" that stick out the back past the wheels that prevent the walker from tipping backwards on to the child. The mechanism to control how fast the back wheels turn works excellently and is easy to use. I have been able to adjust it to work on several different surfaces (both hard surfaces and different thicknesses of carpet). the back wheels have rubber on them which creates a better grip on the floor and helps to slow down the walker. In front of the woodpeckers are two pieces of wood. each wood pecker taps on a different piece of wood. the woodpeckers peck at irregular intervals and at different times. the craftmenship is wonderful. the finish is beautiful. no flaws. no complaints. the handle bar is at a great height. i was afraid it would be too short for my son, but it definitely is not. the pecking noise is definitely not too loud or obnoxious. everyone who looks at it remarks about the quality and beauty of the piece. we looked at the melissa and doug walker in person (the one with the alligators) the quality is very inferior and the handle bar was way too short. My son is 11 months old and is able to walk easily with this toy. he has yet to manage turning it around when he runs into a wall. he also enjoys playing with the woodpeckers and turning the toy on its side so he can spinn the wheels. i am very happy we decided to splurge on this toy.

First off, I like giving great reviews and really wanted to love this nice looking wooden walker. However, I wanted to share a different opinion on this since we did not have a great experience with it and would not recommend it. (And no, I'm not trying to push the wheely bug, but we got them the same month and the bug was such a better purchase).

Issues:

1. Not good for new/early walkers due to the design. This probably goes for a lot of similarly designed "walkers" where the handle is up high and the baby can fall through the middle. My son used this on carpet right around 10 months and it moved well even on fairly shaggy carpet, but after he fell through the middle (both while pushing it and while playing with trying to get at the woodpeckers) and got two corresponding large goose-eggs on his head, we put it away for several months. We got the large Prince Lionheart wheely bug and it was the very best walker on every surface and I cannot say enough good things about it.

2. Can only go in a straight line. Again, due to the design this clunky walker only moves in a straight line and is very difficult to move around corners or turn around when you get to the end of a hallway. Now that my son is sturdy on his feet at 16 mo. we've pulled this toy out again on occasion but the fun wears out quickly since it only goes in a straight line. When he does try to turn it he gets frustrated because it's so awkward and then he usually ends up stubbing his foot or hurting himself with it. Again, the wheely bug delivers in this area because it has caster wheels and even at 10 months old my son was able to maneuver around corners and turn it around in hallways.

3. LOUD & other issues: Those woodpeckers are extremely loud when this thing is pushed! That's probably the factor that kids like the most, but just a heads-up the thing is loud when pushed. Second, like another reviewer, two of the little wooden pegs could be pulled out so I had to glue them (imagine a push-pin made of wood perfect for choking). Easy fix, but a bit concerning. Finally, the paint can come off on the walls when pushed into them. I have a few mustard-yellow streaks where he tried to turn it around in the hall.

Luv it! Our little guy is a late walker and very chill, but it was time for him to start moving those little feet. After a lot of review reads, I decided to buy this one and then a playful Chicco one, also with great reviews. When I first put the Woodpecker baby walker toy together, he was watching me intensely. After the final peg went in he went over grabbed the handle, pulled himself up and began to walk! An enormous smile he had with exciting giggles, those that you want to capture on video and cherish. It is extremely stable, even when he pulls up from an angle it is still sturdy (it does not dip over in his direction).

Then a couple of days later the Chicco walker arrived, it was opened up and put together. Our little guy just looked at it and began playing with some of the accessories. It was so lite that it was difficult for him to get stability with it. He used it that once and never looked at it again. I donated it to a school.

And now he is still learning, getting better, and moving his legs faster... I just luv it! And it looks great! The woodpeckers are cute and the noise is fine, better then all those baby toy sounds. Worth every penny!

My 3 year old and 4 year old love the puzzles even my 6 year old has fun putting them together and playing the games. This is wonderful for motor development as well as helping the kids to learn their ABC's and numbers. Each puzzle has 3 games to play to make learning fun. What a wonderful idea I hope Leap Frog comes out with more puzzles like these.

This is the first time I have been compelled to write a review on Amazon. This product is terrific for many reasons. The heavy cardboard tray fits right into the surface of the Leap Pad, and is much more durable than the regular books. The problem where the cord for the pen damages regular books is not a problem for the puzzles! The Leap pen works whether a puzzle piece is already in the tray or whether just the slightly faded picture is visible because the piece is not yet in the tray. We have lost a piece and it is not a problem because everything still operates correctly. On the animal alphabet especially, the placement of the animals at intersections of the puzzle cuts makes it really easy for a child to learn about puzzles. My daughter is 2 years 3 months and she says "Where's fox nose?" or "I find newt tail!" It is amazing to see the connections happening for her. She is still not interested in the letter concept, but there are plenty of animal noises and interesting facts to keep her really interested while putting the puzzle together. She is not quite as interested in the Winnie the Pooh number puzzle, but still enjoys it.

I would highly recommend this product for the younger ages. It really keeps their attention, doesn't overwhelm them, is durable and they pick up puzzle manipulation skills very quickly.

These puzzles are the best puzzles I have ever seen! The best thing about them is the picture is imprinted on the board so that your child will be able to tell where the piece goes. My daughter was 2 when we first got these and she started understanding how to put a puzzle together. She's 3 now and puts them together all by herself. She's so proud of her accomplishments and it gives this mommy a few minutes to do something I want :-)

My four-year old son loves this book. He plays with his LeapPad constantly and is good at changing the books/cartridges by himself. You only need the animal cards that come with the book for the last two pages; the rest of the book is typical LeapPad with games and music. The cards are small and could be easily lost, but I found that if you just store them in a small ziploc bag, it's not a problem. Also, the set comes with one WILD card that can replace any of the other cards, so if you lose an animal, just replace it with the WILD card when you need to. Kids who love the show "Stanley" or who just like to learn about animals will love this LeapPad book.

Unlike most of what Disney makes for the Leappad (lame adaptations of big screen hits, with barely any educational use or any story at all), this book is DENSE with information and cool games. Now every time I happen to mention something about an animal my children (3, 5) come with facts that leave me with my mouth open ("did you know that hippos can sleep under the water?" and so forth). I think it's the best leappad book we have.

Be prepared to really whack this thing. My boyfriend and I took a crowbar and used it as a chisel with a hammer to gouge a line all the way around the rock. When we hit it on top in one spot after that, it cracked perfectly in half!

Ours was filled with beautiful smoky quartz crystals! I will definitely be buying more of these in the future, they are way cool to crack open and put on display. The size and quality were totally impressive in my opinion!
