My 3 month old hadn't been too interested in touching toys yet. He stared at things, and followed them with his eyes, but he didn't reach out and play. These were the first toys he reached out for and when placed in his hand, he held on! As he grows I can see these will be a lot of fun for him to play with, they're great! Two of the three have a teething piece, and the third has a mirror. There are lots of features to these toys that I can tell will delight him more and more now that he's got the hang of holding them.

I have never written a review but these animals deserve it! They are the first toys that my baby started tracking. She loved the colors and the sounds, especially the lion. When she was old enough to reach for things these where the first she reached for. The elephant and monkey have so many different things (tags, teething ring, tail, nose, ears etc...) that she can hang on to it made it easy for her to play with them for long periods of time. She is almost 8 months old and still loves playing with these guys! Now that she's mobile she'll cross the room just to get to them. I would HIGHLY recommend!

I had the older version of this controller (the pocket) and was not impressed with how quickly some of the internal wires came detached. This product seems much more stable, reliable, with nicer graphics, and who could beat the price! If you aren't aware, this product is no longer made. However, it is plenty easy to find games and accessories cheaply and they seem to hold up pretty well. (Most games are only $5-7 apposed to newer systems where games are $25-30 each. When playing this, we found the buttons responsive, but not too responsive; just right for kids. Also, the stylus seemed picky at first, like it wasn't connecting. However, we discovered something I very much like as a parent. The stylus only works held upright, aka, if you have a proper pencil hold. If you are holding the stylus casually, it will not work, but if your kid has proper pencil hold on it, it works like a charm. Don't know that it was meant to be created this way, but I consider it a huge plus as lots of kids have a hard time with that fine motor skill and this gives them practice. Car charger works great and it came with a space game (didn't see that in the description si it was like an added bonus). One thing really great about the v-smile line and v-tech in general is that all the games work across different consoles. So, the v-smile, v-motion, pocket, and cyber pocket all use compatible games. My son has logged about 10 hours on this now and it is still perfect; which I expected. There is a spot to plug in the v-link on here, also places for headphones, etc. Really a great product at a great price, and came new in box with extras (wasn't sure it would be new as the product hasn't been made in a while). I would recommend this for sure. THe games are very educational as well.

As a kindergarten teacher, I recommend Leap Frog products to parents often. This product is durable, educational and is of high quality. A former student learned her letters with this toy. However, when I ordered one to use to let kids take home for practice, I disliked the light up display. It was difficult to tell which letter was being displayed. The letters are all capital letters. Lower case letters are most helpful in learning to read. I did like the focus on the sounds.

Weird toy. My son(2) got into it right away. Figured it out. Then got bored. When the lights flash, you hit the flashing button, it thens say an animal name with the begining letter on the screen. We played for about 20mins. Now sits in the toy box.

I really love this toy! We have a 3 y/o and he is learning how to play it. I don't know what age this toy is rated for but a child 3-4 should be the low end of the age. I don't think a child older than 6-8 would find this fun or stay busy with it for more than a few minute.

I've been a lab scientist for nearly 30 years, and these are good slides. I finally put these under the microscope last week when my granddaughter came over...she's a little 7-year-old brainiac. They are very beautifully stained and colorful. I've made biological slides myself with mounting medium and it can be a mess, but these are great with no bubbles trapped under the cover slips, nice thin sections, not smashed or distorted....beautifully stained. Very neatly labeled. Great sample of various 'things to look at'. No sharp edges on slides.

In no time, granddaughter was taking them out of the very nice quality wooden slide box, putting them on the scope, and putting them back when she was done. She looked at different structures in stem sections of different types of plants, stomach lining cells ( I explained they were 'wavy' so they would have more absorption surface) and insect parts. I skipped explaining the life-cycle of the Ascaris egg. As I said, all of the cross sections were extremely crisp with no distortion and beautifully stained. Definitely professional and well-done.

A lot can go wrong when making slides...these were clean and very well prepared. This is a great option for teaching because there is no mess!!

I bought this product for my 9 year old son to use with his new microscope, and he was amazed with the slides, the quality is great and the specimens are interesting for a 9 year old or an adult, not at all like other slides that are "toy quality". They arrived very well packaged, and the wood box is quite sturdy.

I purchased this set for my 7 year old grandson. When I pulled them from the wooden box I noticed the slides were smudged and dirty. Looking at them through the microscope you could see the dust paticles and smudges. I had to clean them before use. The images are great. I would recomend these for young users as well as older people interested in the micro world. The only reason I did not give a 5 star rating is because of the slide conditions with the smudges and dust.

I am not sure if it is manufacturing of the slides or the box or whatever but every slide was dusted with grit. Not a real problem because they can be cleaned but it does show some lack of care in the production process.

I wanted to give my first graders a unique gift for Christmas. I found a picture book about a moose named Agate and decided that I would read this book to my class and then give them each their own agate. I was surprised to find some that I could afford and the picture of the agates looked as if they were a nice size. I was disappointed when they arrived because they weren't the size that the picture makes them out to be and they weren't as colorful. However, my students loved them. If you purchase these, you may get a lot of dark (or as one student said, dull) colors--not the variety that the picture shows and they fit in the palm of a first grader's hand.

I bought this for my 4-year-old son, along with a partitioned collection bin for storage, as a start to his new rock collection. He treats them with care and loves to "study" them, along with other rocks he now has. These thin slices are fun because he can hold them up to the sun or place them on top of a lit surface to look at the color rings and swirls. He uses a magnifying glass, too, and feels like a real scientist. I think it really helps for a kid to get his hands on science rather than just looking at pictures. Ours are quite colorful, and I really enjoy looking at them with him. They are maybe 1.5-2 inches long and we've got pink, purple, blue, orange, brown, etc. A good purchase!

I was looking for agate slices for my 6-year old rock collector to use on a light table, among other things. I am not sure why people think these are small, in my opinion these are very typical about 3 inches in length and 1 1/2 to 2 wide. These slices are quite thin which makes them more transparent and excellent for viewing on a light table but does make them appear a little more on the fragile side (however, ours have been dropped on a hardwood floor and shaken in a hard plastic container and they have whithstood it all). The colors were wonderful we received quite a variety of colors including blues, greens, purples, and shades of tan and brown. Overall, these were an excellent purchase and I would buy them again!

First of all I am very surprised this turns out to be a toy I don't feel there is any room to play with, in this slices, or maybe I am just not a child anymore.

I use this slices for making jewelery.

I feel a bit controversial about this pieces. Some of them are my favorites among other cabochons and pendants very beautiful and eye catching, will bring a wonderful variety to any necklace etc. One or two gave me such a strong inspiration I couldn't wait to start creating with them!

But at the same time, most of what you get are very dark or gray or brown, or pale/partially transparent, or just some other color that is hard to define. Dark blue or violet at best.

Not catching, they will sit forever in my box with materials.

One came broken in half. Well it wasn't the best one, so I don't care happily, the brightest ones came safe) and one had a small chunk cracked off it, near the border line, still possible to use if hide a particular detail a little.

So I took one star for 70% of boring colors and one star for 2 of them being damaged.

I wish I had the orange like the one on the provided picture!

Im not sure about the previous reviewers experiences. I can tell you that I have had my Leap Pad for 5 years since they first came out and I still have the same one with all the books and it works just good as it did on day 1. I put it away for a while and I brought it back out for my son who is now 4 and he is enjoying it as much as my daughter did. Im actually going to buy more books for my older child so she can play with it again too. Ive been VERY happy with this toy. There are so many different options. It kept my daughters attention for long periods of time. I did have to replace the pen once but leap frog just sent me the replacement and I attached it. No big deal. There are so many books available for all ages this toy is great for all 3 of my kids. The sounds are very clear and each page has alot of different activities. The only thing that has been an issue is if I let my toddler play with it she can rip the pages out of the books. So I just dont let her play with it by herself. Other than that this is a 5 star toy by far.

We are on our 5th leap pad and although my children love it, we as parent's are going broke trying to repair and fix this darn thing! I just don't feel this is an appropriate toy for the 3-5 year olds. It is too delicate and breaks easily. My kids get so upset when it doesn't work properly and we have invested quite a bit of money in the books and cartridges. Which are sitting unused in a closet because our last two leap pads are (again) broken. Don't waste your money!

Our Leap Pad is now on our third child and she is enjoying it as much as her brother and sister did. She is only 2, so she only uses it under our supervision. My son used it until he was 8 and my daughter until she was six. The only thing we have ever had to replace is the pen once. We have the carry case so the kids can take it in the car or on trips. I like that it has volume control like the T.V., unlike many other toys that only have two settings. You can also use headphones with it. There are numerous books for every level of reading and interaction. It taught my children many vocabulary words that I would never thought to have used with them. This is a fun and educational toy that the children love using. I highly recommend it.

I recently bought this product for a second set of grandchildren. It was a very nice toy and again it was a child-pleaser. Now I have discovered that the books are not in the stores and Amazon only has a few. On line, it is hard to tell which books go with this game as opposed to many books that go with later versions. I assume they are not compatible.

I feel bad that I spent this much for a toy and now cannot provide the child with multiple books. Any suggestions?

This entertains my 6 month old because it plays a melody and the top half moves from side to side. Unfortunately it lasts only about 15 seconds so you have to constantly press the feet for the music to turn on again. We don't use it much now because its annoying to constantly press it for the music to turn on, but perhaps later on down the road she'll learn to press the feet herself to turn it on. Also, it only plays one melody (with giggling) and there is no adjustment in volume. I give it 3 stars for now and will update if my child plays with it more in the near future.

This little dancing ant gets my little dancing boy moving too. He really likes this toy. It is a very simple little toy, push his foot and he moves back and forth and plays music for a short period of time, but it's perfect for a short attention span. It is cute and a good size for little hands (my son is 11 months old)...he grabs Antsy by the antenna and drags him around. I definitely recommend this little guy!

I purchased this as a gift for a friend's 20 month old daughter and while she wasn't that interested I found this thing incredibly amusing (I'm sure she will too in a few months). It has five different settings on the side that allow you to play with it differently learn the letters, learn the letter sounds, find it, before and after, and music.

It was relatively quiet (a big plus) and seemed to be pretty sturdy. Really liked that it corrected you by giving the right answer rather than saying you were wrong.

I read the reviews of this product and purchased the Alphabet Apple for my toddler based on these. Although I think it is a great educational toy and virtually indistructable it definitely isn't terribly useful or helpful for a 2 year old as you claimed. The correct manufacturer age is for 3 yrs. old and up not 2 yrs. as you stated. If the info you provided was correct I probably would have waited a year to get this toy. I think others would too. Otherwise it is a great learning tool.

Andrew is a young boy dissatisfied with his appearance. Specifically, he is jealous of Nicky because he has freckles, lots of freckles. Andrew thinks that his appearance would be perfect if only he had freckles like Nicky's and he will do anything to get them. Sharon is a devious girl in his class who acts like she knows everything. She is aware of Andrew's desire for freckles, so she offers to sell Andrew her secret formula for getting freckles.

Andrew pays Sharon and is given a recipe for a gross concoction containing among other things, ketchup, onions, vinegar and mustard. Andrew goes home, mixes the ingredients and then drinks it down fast. Shortly after that he gets so ill that he must stay home from school. He then discovers that he did not get a set of freckles, so in order to avoid embarrassment, he uses a marker to make some.

Everyone laughs, so his teacher lets him use her "magic freckle removing liquid." Once the class learns of Andrew's desire for freckles, Nicky then tells everyone that he wants to use the formula so that he can remove his freckles. His desire is to be free of freckles so that he can be more like the other children. At the end, Sharon is offering to sell Nicky her secret formula for removing freckles.

Andrew and Nicky are typical of children in that they think the features of others are better than their features so they have a desire to change. This story is a lesson in that reality of life, so it is a good one for children. A desire for change is sometimes good, but foolish when it is something that cannot be changed. Drastic attempts can lead to dire consequences and there will always be unscrupulous people who will offer you solutions that will not work and that may be dangerous.

Judy Blume's "Freckle Juice" is a short tale for young readers, with illustrations by Sonia O. Lisker. Blume tells the story of Andrew Marcus, a 2nd grade student who wishes he had freckles. Things get freaky when a classmate promises to sell him a "secret recipe for freckle juice."

Blume taps effectively into the culture of children's folk magic and urban legend with this tale. I was a bit turned off, however, by Blume's portrayal of Andrew's shrewish, hysterical, overbearing mother. After finishing the book, I thought, "When this kid grows up, he's going to have some serious issues with women!" I also didn't like the fact that the "villain" of the story essentially lies, swindles, and violates classroom discipline and suffers no consequences. Still, "Freckle Juice" is a fun story with a memorable "gross-out" factor.

I enjoy books for the young ones that give them a good lesson on life and give them a chuckle or laugh while doing it. Be happy with the way you look, be satisfied with yourself and hidden in that message is one that well shows there are no free lunches in life. the 1971 edition I have has some very well done black and white drawings which are quite charming themselves. This is a great book to read to a class as it creates much discussion and allows the children to relate their own wishes and discuss them. This is one of those books that I hope does not go out of print as it has a timeless quality about it. Highly recommend.

We have been reading the book together and we have BOTH been giggling over it. My son teases me because I have a lot of freckles -he thought I drank some freckle juice! LOL!

It's a great toy! Good quality, good size, good color and shape. Made in Thailand (I'm crazy about "made in China" toys). The size is 7.5" x 7.5". The smallest figure is 1.5" and the largest is 2.3/4". My daughter 20 month years old love it. I planned to buy HABA shape board, but after research I decided to buy Voila. I'm very happy with this purchase.

Discount LeapFrog LeapReader Junior Book: Disney's Winnie the Pooh: Piglet

Gosh, I hate to be the first to review and only be able to offer up 3 stars but frankly, my daughter LOVES Pooh but I feel this book is not for the pre-reading group. How the group (spoiler alert) individually contributes to getting out of the hole isn't very obvious if you don't hit every single playable pocket. The things the characters say contribute to your understanding but the text actually on the page is simple and incongruous to the story line. Now, my daughter is 2, so you may want to consider that but if you have a toddler, pre-reader, the other book that has Pooh was far easier to be able to read through with her. I like to read the Tag books to my daughter and then let her use the tag jr. by herself. She's fiercely independent so that works with her. But for this book, I have to solidly direct her to get the story out so she doesn't pick it up much with the reader so she doesn't pick it up on her own. For other books she will find the book and then run over and get the reader and sit down with both like she's understanding the story and it's interesting to her.

Our family loves all things Pooh but this book is very odd, confusing, and inappropriate for a pre-reader. The book begins by showing the unwitting Pooh being lured into a trap--a hole covered by a blanket with a honey pot in the middle. Each of the characters subsequently joins him in the trap. Poor Piglet is the last to fall in the hole but first he has a rather scary experience of finding himself in a frightening looking wood (not the friendly Hundred Acre Wood we Pooh fans know and love). It remains unclear exactly how the characters make it out of the hole they were trapped in and I was at a loss to try to explain the very odd plot to my daughter. The title doesn't make any sense at all, because despite his best efforts, poor Piglet doesn't do a thing to save the day. After reading it with my daughter a few times it went in the trash.

Our kids love books, and we like Winnie the Pooh. So getting this Pooh book for the Tag Reader was an easy decision. Like all Tag Junior books it works with the older-age device "Tag Reader Pen." If you're buying a Tag Junior book and haven't bought the reading device yet, consider the Pen instead of the Junior so that you can continue to use it after your kids outgrow the Junior books. The older-aged books don't work with the Tag Junior device.
