My almost 3 year old received this game as a surprise, for being such a good expectant big sister. It was barely out of the packaging and she was playing it. Still a little advanced for her age, but she finds the games she likes to play and plays those for now. She loves the Dora and the 3 pigs theme and noticed it right away!

We bought this as a stocking stuffer for the great price of $3.99. I am glad I didn't pay more; we already had Alphie so we thought this would be a nice addition to our little robot. The food cards are not as fun as the original cards but they are okay. We are big foodies in this house and love to cook, but something about a robot and food education just isn't SUPER fun. Probably wouldn't buy this as a gift and definitely wouldn't pay more than $4 for this.

My grandson has severe food allergies and this pack has really helped him understand what food is. It can be very difficult explaining to young children that everything in the sore is OK to eat, when it is not OK for THEM to eat it. It really has helped my daughter explain to him the different things that are food. It even led her to take him to a very large Asian market where 90% of the items were indeed food, but not any that she recognized. Alfie can teach adults too!

Not all of the suggestions on these cards may apply to you. For example, one card asks kids "what is a light snack before bedtime that won't fill you up?"and the answer is yogurt. We eat high protein Greek yogurt so I think of yogurt as a very filling meal! Also my son has a peanut allergy so telling us that a peanut butter sandwich is a great snack before soccer game just doesn't apply but I don't hold that against them!

Over all this set has some great food tips and info. Some unusual foods that I would not even think to show my kids (like tiramisu) and even a card on steps how to brush your teeth! A card talks about the pit/seed in different fruits. We haven't gone through all cards yet but so far I am pretty happy! My son is 3.5 he will sith and answer questions and learn...daughter is 20 months and just wants to push the flashing buttons. A conversation starter for all of us though even if they just poke all the buttons. My son loves the sound effects too.

My kids love the Alphie robot. The food booster pack is fun, and does touch a little bit on health. The cards are double sided and have a good variety.

As with any Alphia card set, it's mostly quiz, "find this" or "match this." Kids learn by trial and error, not direct instruction. If you get it wrong, Alphie tells you why it was wrong and lets you try again.

Do be careful what age you give this to; my 4-year-old spread the cards out all over and ripped a couple, so supervision is recommended. A couple folded cards did still work, as long as the pattern on the bottom wasn't damaged. The cool thing about Alphie is he can read the grey and black pattern on the bottom of each card and know which one is in.

The only thing I don't like are the tiny cartridges. The food cards are green on top, matching the green card you have to put in for him to have the data he needs to read the cards. Without the green cartridge, we can't use the green cards, so make sure you don't lose that part!! Each set of cards is a different color, but Alphie does NOT save anything off the cartridge into the robot itself; you need the cartridge each time. This is al early start to responsibility, though, because obviously video games are like this, but so are some other toys.

The robot itself is very durable, and the cartridge is strong as long as you don't smash it (we haven't broken one yet, just lost one), but the cards themselves are like thinly-laminated index cards, and can rip if the child is rough. one set of cards can be stored in Alphie's back. I like the toy overall, but if you don't want cards all over the house, either get a tidy kid or a different toy. ;)

I purchased nine of these to use at a middle school engineering camp, along with the physic discovery kits. I did not spend much time with the instructions but many interesting projects were constructed using the parts. Some of the parts are not very robust and can be difficult to take apart. The price is high for the included parts and they really should add a second regular battery holder to improve the speed of the included motor (it has one for the electric motor and one for charging a battery). Five stars if they get the price down or add some more parts.

Quite a disapointment, solar panel isn't robust enough to drive the vehicle and even with all the gears lined up properly and using a battery pack it's quite anti-climatic. Not much educational value over any other build kit without a "solar panel" many of which are cheaper.

I got this set and the wind powered set for my 8-year-old son who loves building, science, and mechanics. He's a wiz at Legos/Lego technic, building thousand-piece sets in a couple of hours, but he found this really frustrating because the pieces don't always fit together as the plans say they should. Then, once we managed to get the kit together the solar power is so week that the vehicle barely goes. They say you can combine sets to make more power, or use the battery back-up, but still it barely did anything, or wouldn't work because the pieces didn't fit together quite right (for example, in one case the gears didn't line up to fit together.)

Also, I initially had planned this project as a home schooling project, but the information about solar energy included in the kit's booklet is very minimal, so don't expect to learn a lot about solar energy by building this. The one thing we learned is that the amount of solar energy produced by this toy is insufficient to power it. For the record, my son still says this toy is fun, but he only picks it up once every couple of months, and always gets frustrated with it in the end. (p.s. this kit is NOT compatible with Lego)

Ordered this set for a 4-year old who had expressed a lot of interest in playing. Was pleased to see when it arrived that it was an actual, well-constructed drum kit. It's probably the equivalent of an entry-priced drum set only scaled down, definitely not a toy. My son is enjoying it so far and I can even sit on the mini-throne and have a good time teaching him different beats.

I wanted a magnet kit for some simple science experiments for my 7-year old daughter.

This kit had everything I was looking for: 2 horseshoe magnets, 1 bar magnet, a tube of iron filings and a tube of (very) tiny steel pieces.

The magnets are small but strong. A booklet of magnet related experiments would have been a big plus. Overall, a decent value for money.

I purchased this for a science fair project my first grader is working on. Like other reviewers, I agree that the quality of the magnets is good, and the magnets are durable. The kit comes with a two inch horseshoe-shaped magnet, a one-inch horseshoe-shaped magnet, a two inch bar magnet, and also a tube of iron filings, as well as a tube of very tiny steel pieces.

ABC Animal Orchestra cardboard book for the Tag Jr.

It features every letter from A-Z, sometimes displaying one letter per page, sometimes two. Each letter is accompanied by a cute animal playing a musical instrument, both the animal and the instrument's name start with the letter in question, which makes it more interesting.

I'm not sure if it was just the one I got, but my book was not bright and as such the colors did not come alive. The printing was way too dark for a child's book. Still, you get over this fact quickly enough with the great sounds that come out from each page.

So, what "interactive" parts does this book have?

Pressing the Tag Jr. on the letters once says the letter out loud, subsequent pressings prompt the user with questions such as "Which animal's name starts with the letter D?".

Pressing the Tag Jr. on the animals once produces the sound of the instrument he/she is holding, press again and the device ask with what letter the animal in question's name starts.

Another activity that I found pretty fun was when you tapped your little Tag Jr. on a Cat, after a few tries the device asks you to find another cat in your book, so you have to go on and find the Jaguar or the Tiger.

The last two pages have a spread out animal orchestra with the complete alphabet above them. Pressing on the letters plays a cute rendition of the ABC song. Pressing on the animals here has the same effect here as in previous pages with the exception that sometimes they play an instrumental version of the alphabet song, which is nice too.

Overall it's a cute book, but don't expect a story here, it's exactly what it claims to be, an ABC Animal Orchestra book.

I own the entire Tag Junior library. Check out my reviews before buying books! (I wish I had researched before buying them all!)

This is one that is truly appropriate for the full range specified. Even my 15-month-old daughter loves it and benefits from an alphabet introduction.

Yet, it is not just an ABC book. It is also an animal book and a musical book. It builds vocabulary, it is entertaining, and it periodically challenges your older Tag Junior user to a book-wide search for things. It does show the upper and lower case letters, which as an elementary educator I love. My 3-year-old looked at me with a pretend grumpy face and said, "that gorilla looks grumpy, like this." I thought that was so cute and funny. What I also like about this book is that it doesn't feature the usual "instruments" and has things like Kangaroo's Kazoo, Newt's Nose Flute, Quails' quartet, Tiger's turntable, Yak's yodel, Armadillo's accordian, Cat's congas, Dingo's didgeridoo, Gorilla's gong, Jaguar's jug, Iguana's Indian bells, and so forth. Even my 4½ -year old got a kick out of the newt playing a flute with its nose.

I gave this book "full credit" because it is a good value given that it will benefit the full range specified and then some. Not only that but it's just a cool kids' book. Cool, modern, non-licensed illustrations. LeapFrog thought outside the box on this one and I love it. Don't hesitate.

This is a great starter Tag Jr. book, and has a lot of places for kids to touch with the Tag or Tag Jr. reader and get some fun responses. This makes for great interactive play.

We use this with the Tag reader. ANY Tag Jr. book works with the Tag Reader (that is not true the other way around). So despite the fact that we're not quite ready for Tag books, we bought the Tag reader because it works with both types of books.

Example: you can push the gorilla several times one for "G", one for "Gorilla" and one for the Gorilla sound and one for the sound of the instrument the Gorilla is playing. It's very silly and cute.

There is just a lot going on with this book. Each page has an animal and instrument beginning with the letter for the page, but it's too much for my 22 month son. He loves books, but he hasn't even looked through every page of this book yet. He will look at the first page, then start flipping till the end. We do like the last page where it plays the ABC song! That's our best and favorite part. Maybe he will grow into it? If he does, I'll update the review.

It's African, not American Indian. But it looks good on the bulletin boards I purchased it to decorate. I was doing a Native American display and wanted a border to reflect that. But when these borders arrived, I used them anyway. No one noticed the discrepancy, and I have left them as borders for my bulletin board. Now I've changed the display to a wild America theme (animals, plants, landscapes) and the African borders still work. Nice borders, but not what they were represented.

This is a very nice journal. It's a little smaller than I would have liked but the outside is simply spectacular. It's a good weight, the material feels genuine, and the horse head is excellent quality. This a nice gift, looks like it should be one of a kind, handmade item. Very impressive to see and hold in person. I was a little hesitant because of the price, but the quality is worth it. It arrived VERY quickly in the mail (left from London and arrived in the US within 3 days). I do wish that the journal was lined instead of blank, but that's ok (I read in the description it was blank so I knew before I purchased). Overall, I would recommend this item as a gift for a horse lover. You won't be disappointed with it!

Buy Playskool Made For Me Mp3 Music Player

We bought this for our 3 year old son. He loves it. The software is super easy to use. My Son's attention span isn't as long as the amount of music this can hold. My only complaint is the voice record feature. It is one button on the mp3 player and if your child pushes it it will record automaticly. Any and all sound including interference from other electronic devices. Makes a terrible sound. You then have to plug the MP3 into your computer to erase all the files recorded via the voice record button. Also, these voice record files land under the favorites category. This is the first category that comes on whenever you turn on the unit. A possible way to avoid this is to fill up the MP3 as much as you can so there is no room for recording. However it is hard to find that exact golden number so that you have 000 MBs/KBs left. I have yet to hit that nail on the head. Aside from this one long winded complaint I would reccomend this unit even though it is a bit $$.

We received this item as a gift and were excited to put our baby's favorite (or hopefully favorite to be) music on it. We liked the idea of hanging it in the crib and then as she grew she could tote it around and push the buttons herself. We could also change the music as she grew from Baby Einstein to Laurie Berkner to whatever comes after that. We opened it and played with the pre-recorded music, of which most is pretty good. We then decided to open the software and found that it didn't work on a Mac. We do not own a PC and now have no way to put any new music on the player. We had thrown away the box and didn't get a gift receipt with it anyway and so couldn't return. Just be aware if you purchase this you have to have a PC to run the software. It doesn't say this anywhere in the description of the product.

Our baby has enjoyed this player since she received it as a gift (at about 2 months of age). She loves the music and the lights. There are some drawbacks. First, we did experience some technical difficulties and had to return the original for a replacement. So far the replacement is working nicely. Second, it is important to note that music purchased from i-tunes will not play on this windows-based product because the i-tunes files are "protected." We have successfully played the songs it came with. Among the songs that come with the MP3 unit, we very much enjoy the "playtime" songlist, but don't particularly care for most of the songs on the "soothing" playlist (because the woman's voice is too playful sounding for bedtime). However, we ripped our own CDs and put our own soothing music on the player and it works great... biggest drawback is just the i-tunes situation because we rarely purchase CDs anymore.

First of all, I have to say I love the idea for this toy. My kids love being in charge of their music and this is much nicer than having them run around with my expensive iPod. I can't speak to the durability yet, but hopefully it will stand up to them.

As for the reviews from Mac users who were disappointed that the software is only pc compatible: true. But you don't need the software to make this work. I plugged in the mp3 player with the included cord and my Mac treated it like a flash drive. Open it up, find the folders and copy music from your folders right in. No problem at alland I'm not that computer savvy. Personally, I'd rather do it this way anyway than deal with their software interface. This was just a simple drag and drop (make sure you aren't dragging whole folders though as nested folders won't play). Music sounds great and I can't wait to see the boys play with this!

Prior to buying I've read some other reviews on this site, some of which filled me with doubts. At the end I decided to give it a go. Now I can tell you this was the coolest thing I could get my daughter for her 2nd birthday. She takes it everywhere with her and plays with it every single day (maybe not so good for parents, but what can we do...). We found the cover described in some other reviews as "strange" simply nice and funny. It is also OK to use the toy without it. My daughter learned all the controls in a day or two (this includes the ones on the back for switching the playlist and playtime), so no problem there. The player can go from very quiet to surprisingly loud and still play very well.

Someone was also mentioning it plays only one song at the time. There are four modes of play single song (you must press the play button after every song), some 20-odd minutes (don't remember exactly) and the whole playlist. There is also a shuffle mode. And, it comes with probably all the good old classics, such as Twinkle twinkle little star, etc., so you don't need to be getting those on CD...

There is some CD with some software for your PC, which I chose not to use and simply uploaded the songs to the card to the specific directory, which seems to be working as well. Only one negative point, the memory card is relatively small (128MB/2hours), my daughter's music collection is already much bigger :))) Maybe someone could think of a version which takes interchangeable SD card or similar...

This is a cool idea and a cool toy for any child who loves music. What I don't understand is why this is the only such toy on the market???

I just received this product in the mail today, and am pretty pleased with the purchase. The cards are smaller than I thought they'd be (about the size of a half sheet of paper) but are very thick and durable. There is a picture on both sides of the 10 cards on all but 1 of the cards, (so 19 puzzles and 1 blank board.) The boards can double as a dry erase board which is great because I can draw new puzzles for my kids on the blank card. The magnets came as one big sheet and must be separated. Some of the magnets are slightly curved, but they are easy to bend flat and stick much better to the cards once you do.

I am happy with the variety of puzzles. I was afraid that some of the other puzzles I had seen had too detailed of an outline for my 5 year old. I didn't want it to be too easy for him. This set has some that are completely outlined, but it works toward harder puzzles that are more loosely outlined and have several solutions. It also includes puzzles that are half-outlined so that your child can work on symmetry.

All in all I am pleased with this. It will be a good starter set for our family.

I originally got my children the regular pattern blocks, but realized I had a problem when I found my son gluing them to the table so that they would stay in one place. This set solved the problem and my kids love using them.
