I wanted a magnet kit for some simple science experiments for my 7-year old daughter.

This kit had everything I was looking for: 2 horseshoe magnets, 1 bar magnet, a tube of iron filings and a tube of (very) tiny steel pieces.

The magnets are small but strong. A booklet of magnet related experiments would have been a big plus. Overall, a decent value for money.

I bought this kit for my 8-year old boy science project focused on magnetism. The kit comes with nice magnets and good iron filings to visualize magnetic field. I purchased this for a science fair project my first grader is working on. Like other reviewers, I agree that the quality of the magnets is good, and the magnets are durable. The kit comes with a two inch horseshoe-shaped magnet, a one-inch horseshoe-shaped magnet, a two inch bar magnet, and also a tube of iron filings, as well as a tube of very tiny steel pieces.

I also agree that a basic book on magnets would have been very helpful. I purchased several titles to give my daughter basic information on magnets, presented in an interesting manner:

My grandson loved these magnets. They are good and strong one flew right out of his hand and attacked the fridge! He's having lots of fun and learning, too. We bought a couple of books on the topic of Magnets. Jury is out on which book he liked best or is most effective teaching tool.

It's a wonderful deal, doesn't sounds as amazing as others i have, but for the money it's fantastic, snap one up, tuned well. I recently went to toys r us to see what they carry and they have the 'first act' ones, OMG what a total piece of crap. both of the ones on the shelf were already broken (two keys each were'nt working anymore) and they were as much as these. First thing he plays with at daycare most days is the John Deere truck! When you push the little driver down, this little truck will travel the whole length on my hallway. This toy is super fun and my 2 year old loves it. You push down the man's head and it takes off zooming. It goes super fast on bare floors and crashes into anything without breaking so far. My only warning is that it doesn't work well on carpet when you push down the man's head, but you can still play with it by rolling it manually without a problem. So that issue didn't effect my 2 year old at all. She'll roll it manually on the carpet or if I'm in the kitchen working then she'll take it in there and let him zoom by pushing down his head. Over all a great car and I refused to give it less the five stars just because it can't handle carpet on its own well. I actually didn't expect it to for how well it's priced. I just love this and so does my daughter!

My 18 month old absolutely adores this piano! This piano is very well-made, very sturdy, does not topple over, stood up to my son's abuse (he is at the age that he thinks everything is a drum!). It compliments our living room deco, even though our living room is white. The little bench is an asset, it makes him want to sit down and play the piano longer. BEST THING ABOUT THIS PIANO BATTERY FREE! So though it's pricey to buy, you save on those expensive batteries replacement. It has very soothing (yeah, even with my son banging away), subtle keys, unlike some of those very annoying toys these days. It's one of his dad's favorite toy too!

The 8 yr. old composes melodies, the 6 yr. old plays the color

The Schoenhut Elite Spinet was as expected/advertised. The piano was the hit of our grand daughters christmas. While she "plays" it constantly, we can't wait for her to get a little older (she is currently 2 1/2)to learn to play it better and to the music. Regardless, we are very happy with the purchase and relieved that you can still buy quality products that will hold up to vigorous play and will not go out of style or interest any time soon. We personally think this will spur our grand daughter on other musical interests not a bad thing.

The quality of this piece is poor.

(1) The look : cheap plywood with a sloppy application of lacquer. (Bare spots, the 5-layer ends (cross-section) of the plywood showing through, etc.)

(2) Of 25 keys, 2 did NOT work on arrival.

(3) The construction is 'loose' with boards not holding together particularly securely. The whole thing 'rattles'.

(4) It STINKS! The varnish smell is extremely strong. Strong enough to give me a beating headache. If I wasn't planning on returning the item, I would need to find a garage or similar to air it out for several weeks before it would be suitable for a home.

Despite the fact that this piece is marketed as 'Schoenhut, Quality Pianos since 1872', it is in fact made in China.

The sound is 'okay', but surprisingly weak for such a piece.

Update:

After contacting the company, they gave instructions about dismantling the piano to get the broken keys fixed. I did this, but it didn't work. So, they sent me a whole new piano. All the keys work, but it (the varnish) still *STINKS*, so I am upgrading my review by one star for good customer service.

I bought this toy for our 2 year old grandson and 10 month old twins. Previously, I had purchased the Melissa and Doug pounding toy. In that version, the pegs were easily removed and lost the first morning. The pegs on this toy are snug. The only negative is that the noise might drive you nuts, but that doesn't bother the kids. :-)

This is just a great classic toy. Obviously needs some supervision (would you really give your kid a hammer and then walk away?!). The end of the hammer did mark up the wall, but I think it will wipe off fairly easily. (the paint came off the end of the hammer when it rubbed against the wall). Overall though, a great toy that was NOT made in China!!! Will keep looking for Made in USA/Canada options for our children's toys!

I bought this for my grandson and I to use on an "indoor" camping trip. I gave this lantern to him at Christmas with a small tent, and a sleeping bag. The 2 year old loved it. he and I played with it alot during the course of our Christmas night sleepover. Being a two year old, this poor little lantern was flung a couple of times on a hardwood floor. It still works perfectly. The light is bright but has a dimmer switch. We both loved using it during our fake sleepover. Would purchase it again in a heart beat.

I bought several of these as party favors for my 3 year olds safari birthday party. Exactlty what I was looking for. It's bright and good quality. They are really cute and made a good impression. BUT, its even smaller than I was expecting. The party guests were 3-5 years old and the lantern seemed small even for them. Wished it was a little bigger. Also, seems a little overpriced at $9.00.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine Program As a female scientist myself, I applaud that Nancy B's company is trying to make science and discovery FUN!

The concept of these binoculars is great: very light weight; nice activity book; imbedded tiny compass in the front of the glasses; and gender neutral colour. However, I do not believe that TODAY'S "8-11 year olds" would find these glasses fun or useful. I'd highly recommend them for children able to stand upright for at least 1/2 an hour; perhaps 4-6 years old.

Why am I recommending a younger age? Have you taught any young people lately? I lead field trips at our local state park in Michigan: day trips for flora and fauna and night sky lectures at the beach, sitting on logs. I've seen from age 6 on up, kids using their own or their parent's smart phones, looking at Audubon apps and Google Sky apps! Kids nowadays are whip smart and these glasses would be an insult to their intellegence. I'd start very young children with these glasses so they learned how to hold them, focus them and position them to see stationary objects; the magnification is just barely beyond normal eye sight for them to actually track birds.

Once they got a good command of how to operate field glasses, you could hightail it over to ebay, and starting at .01 penny, GREAT used binoculars are for sale! I've tracked sales over there for a week and the average price for good, used binoculars is under $6 bucks!

So, great product for very young children who want to feel part of a larger group with their own glasses and they are anxious to learn. But for 8+ years, they deserve serious binoculars that truly function.

I wish it was around when our children were younger. However, today it is more difficult than ever to encourage children to play outside due to the competition of video games. The binoculars are durable and helps the child explore the world of birds and other wildlife, even cloud structure etc. The challenges in the Nature Journal help encourage learning while providing hours of fun. This is a great way to inspire young minds and should be on the top of the list for stocking stuffers this Christmas. The 4 times magnification of the binoculars is clear and the toy is easy to use. It's ready to go with no assembly (parents should love that part). Just please caution your young children not to look at the sun through them so they don't damage their eyes. Children under eight should probably have parental supervision.

I could zoom into something about 10 feet away, and that just sharpened my view slightly. To actually use these to get good look at say a bird up a tree? It would be long gone before a kid could get close enough to identify it.

On the plus side, it comes with a journal, which helps teach kids to take notes about what they see, thus supporting what they learn in school about the scientific method and making observations.

It's rated for 8-11, but really I would err on the lower side of this. Older kids won't like the weak optics.

Discount Hands-On-Math Activity Book; Grades 4-5; no. CTP2650

I have the CTP book called Hands On Math for 1st 3rd and I loved that book and used it often in my 1st3rd grade classroom. I was looking for a bit more and was thrilled to see that they had this continuation. However, it isn't truly a continuation. I don't know if it is the lack of illustrations like the previous book had or if the jump in challenging problems was too wide but I wasn't too impressed. There were a lot of good activities but it seemed like there is still a gap between the 3rd and 4th grade activities and this book didn't fulfill my need.

The activities are hands-on and do focus on understanding the concept but I was a bit disappointed nonetheless with the book. And, I got the book pretty banged up on the edges even though it was supposed to be brand new. It wasn't work going through the return process but I was a bit irked. .

Review of Brinsea Ovascope Egg Viewer

Brinsea's high intensity candler (the "base" that fits inside this, and is available separately for about half the price) works much better WITHOUT this "scope," but requires a dark room, like a closet, windowless bathroom, or any room after dark. If you have a classroom of school children (daytime) who must all have a turn looking at the egg, this is a helpful appliance. If you are doing a documentary and need to attach a camera and computer system to the scope, this MAY be helpful. Seriously, all this piece of plastic does is create a dark environment with a peephole.

As a private small breeder, it is much more trouble to get the eggs in and out of this thing, only to see a restricted view of the egg. I am able to better evaluate the egg for overall health and development without this... wish I could send it back but Brinsea's 20%-restocking-and-you-pay-the-postage-both-ways makes it not worth the trouble.

Great egg viewer and I like the led light (no/little heat build up), but wish I had seen the high intensity version when buying. Need the high intensity light for darker eggs and since most of my chickens are brown egg layers, I had to also later buy the high intensity light kit to go with this viewer. Also, I have not been able to find the "add-on" piece for the computer/projector viewer that the manual mentions. No one seems to have this on their site even Brinsea. Or at least, I have not yet found it.

I had tried candling eggs using a flashlight and it was very difficult. The Brinsea Ovascope takes all the guesswork out. You place the egg in the viewer, put on the cover and look through the viewing lens. I checked over 30 eggs and only 3 didn't look viable. To be sure, I cracked them open....yep, no chick. Love this!

I would love to have a set of classic large unit blocks, but alas, apartment living doesn't allow for that. These blocks are not large, but they're the right size to build structures for matchbox-sized vehicles, wooden trains and Little People figures, so they work fine for my 2.5yo son. I like the colors-they have a modern feel, and the blue and red allow for the police station and fire house obsessions to be realized. I like that there are natural wood blocks as well-there is something very satisfying about the feel of smooth natural wood. I'm thinking of buying a second set when he's a bit older and designing more complex structures. Classic, lasting toy, good price, highly recommended.

I was looking for a nice wooden blocks for my son (11 months old). I decided to buy this one because "manufacturer recommended age: 13 months 5 years". I ordered. When they arrived only I can see is huge label " not for a children under 3" :(

I kept it, it was christmas gift and didn't have time to look for different kind. I seperated the small blocks and I hide them. Instead of 100 blocks, he got maybe 50. It's plenty for him but I'm still disappointed about wrong information.

I love the modern colors of this set. The number of blocks in the set is perfect for building a castle. The sizes of the blocks are small enough for the little hands, but not too small to worry about becoming a choking hazard. I only had to put aside several small triangle blocks from the entire set for my 13mo boy who still puts everything in his mouth. .

The only downside is that the paint started chipping on the corners on some of the blocks after several weeks. This is our first set, so I'm not sure if this is a normal wear and tear. Overall we are happy with the product.

I still can't believe the price on these blocks! Yes, they are smaller than the plain block set you might get from M&D, but they are perfect for us and the size of our home. My girls (4.5 and 2) can build cities that are intricate and interesting, but don't take up the entire living room. My 4.5 year old builds cities, castles, you name it and my 2 year old mostly just stacks them up and knocks them down, but both thoroughly enjoy them. And you absolutely can't beat the price on these love them!!
