I purchased this set of letters along with the uppercase version for our homeschooling materials. They have been a hit. The kids love to get the letters out and build words together. The letters are a great size averaging 1.75" x 1.5" and adhere well to magnetic boards as well as the fridge. Another plus is the vowels are colored red so younger children can easily find and learn the importance of vowels. Unlike some other sets, this set includes extra consonants and vowels so more words can be made with one set. They work great with "Expo Magnetic Dry Erase Easel Board for Kids" for table top learning.

These lowercase magnet letters were exactly what we were looking for. My daughter is very interested in learning letter sounds, and spends a lot of time talking about and sounding out magnetic letters on our fridge. However, most sets of magnetic letters are all uppercase, which isn't ideal for learning to read since in books, most letters are lowercase.

We also have a set of Melissa & Doug wooden magnetic letters (both uppercase and lowercase). However, we'd lost some (leaving us with no lowercase of some letters). Also, some of the Melissa and Doug letters are a little hard for kids to understand. For instance, the two parts of the lowercase "i" are connected together in a confusing way.

These new letters are great. The letters are much more clearly shaped, rather than "bubbly" like the Melissa & Doug ones. The magnets stick fine, all except the letter o's, which slide a bit for some reason. They're not strong enough to hold up papers, but plenty strong enough for play. They're a little smaller than the Melissa & Doug letters and the "standard," common uppercase set we got at a yard sale, but the size difference is minor enough that they can still be mixed and matched to spell words. This is exactly what I was looking for.

My son has sensory issues and this silly toy is good practice for him. He doesn't like touching anything wet, so because this toy looks wet, but isn't, it helps with his therapy. The only bad thing is that my son is a bitter...so I would suggest buying a few of them.

We used to use hemacytometers for counting cells for tissue culture in my old lab. Everybody hates them right? Finally one of our postdocs told the lab manager that his previous lab would use these things for cell counting. They're faster than a hemacytometer because you don't have to count as many squares. The package comes with instructions on how to calculate cell counts based on how many grid squares you look at and the cell density. They're intended for urinalysis but who cares. Each slide has 10 grids and there are 50 in the box so that's 500 counts. Hemacytometers cost an arm and a leg if you accidentally drop and break yours. These things are less than USD 1 per slide. Very worthwhile.

The first page of the book gives the reader a short file of information about Brian Broccoli and the mission he and his vegetable comrades must accomplish.. There is a whammy bar that makes cool sounds, you can strum it,or it will play one of three songs, and you can push the buttons for little notes. It has been a HUGE hit. Hannah loves this toy. It is very durable, as it has been thrown into the toy box and banged around. It includes a volume adjustment which really comes in handy on some days. It plays a couple of different songs and is a very good value for the mony.

This toy is a lot of fun! AND it makes for some really cute photo-ops. My daughter got this toy used when she was one. She's two now, and I still haven't had to change the batteries! She really loves it, it is one of her favorite musical instruments. The buttons light up while the song is playing. There is a whammy bar. When the Elmo button is pushed, Elmo says positive things like "You can do it!" "Jam with Elmo!" or "You're rocking now!" The child can have the whole song automatically play, or he can play it note by note by "strumming" the strings. My FAVORITE thing about this toy is that it has VOLUME CONTROL so my child can have fun without damaging her hearing or driving me crazy!

This toy is a winner. I admit, I bought this toy before my son was born, because my husband is a bass player. But it has ended up being a good buy. The buttons push easily, it plays the sesame street song, spish/splash, etc., either on it's own, by pushing individual buttons, or by strumming. The Elmo voice is encouraging, and the whammy bar is fun, and durable. For the price, this is a fun toy! My son started banging on the buttons at 6 months old, and continues playing with it due to the interaction he gets. I sure it will continue having play value the older he gets, and the more precise his actions are.

This toy has many features. It has four different buttons which each make a noise. You can press elmo and he talks to you. The fader works. Then you rock the round part back and forth to play the music. It plays several songs the only one I can reconginze is the sesame street song. I think I liked this toy better then y son did though. My son is 14 months old. So far he will hit the elmo button to hear elmo talk but that is it, It has a nice speaker and sounds very realistic.

As good sounding as I expected. Sounds like my old wooden one. I expected something to mount it with, as shown in the picture for it, but only the moon block was included, which is still a good deal for the price.

Love the deep sound on this when you crack it. Had doubts because I came from old school wood ones back in the day. This sounds great, and it's plenty loud. Perfect match to my black cowbell I also got on Amazon. I got the Gibraltar holder for both and it works excellent. You'll need sun block for the Moon Block because it shines! Nice! Don't buy pricey, this rocks awesome for the price!

I bought this toy to put in the Toys For Tots gift bin at my dad's work. I haven't taken it out of the package or anything but it looks really cute. The pictures on the pieces are very colorful and the package is heavier than it looks, which indicates to me that it is of good quality plastic (as opposed to cheap flimsy plastic that will break easily). I am very happy with the purchase and I think that a small child will be very happy to get this as a Christmas gift.

This is the second one I've bought. I'm a professional chef, and I lost the first one. There are a few minor issues. With a lot of use the rubber coating will rub off the buttons, and the plastic cover will stretch some so it won't snap tight. But most importantly it's fast, and accurate. I love the backlight feature. I also had the BBQ edition of this one which looks exactly the same except it's read and has a flame decal. For some reason that one fell apart, while both of these have held up well.

Discount Hohner Kids Hand Drum Musical Toy

We're so happy with this drum for my almost-two-year-old. It's a real musical instrument -you can make lots of different sounds with it, and it's so inviting. It's also incredibly strong. It has been thrown, stood upon, etc. etc. etc. and is still in perfect shape. I love that my son can hold and strike this at just about any angle and still get a satisfying sound. It's a winner, and a great value.

UPDATE: 1/5/12: Not long after I wrote this review, my son did indeed manage to damage the drum. The drumming surface now has a small dent, and it's not a great toy anymore -a step below drumming on an oatmeal canister from the grocery store. We should have supervised our young son more closely with it, or waited until he was older. I just wanted to update my review and let you all know that this thing is not, in fact, indestructible. :o)

As I have been building a personal Rhythm Band collection for my 14 month old granddaughter, it has been very important to me that I select appropriate size instruments and good quality instruments. I do not want to give her toys to play with for this experience. The Hohner Kids Hand Drum and Mallet are a good selection for my goal. The size is perfect for my granddaughter at her age. She can easily hold the drum in one hand and hold the mallet in the other hand. The mallet is a little bit thin for my granddaughter's age, but will be acceptable for school age children. We often use our fingers to tap the drum, or the heel of our hand. Experimenting for different sounds is a great thing to do, as well.

The multiple colors of the drums are a nice feature, but the purchaser is not able to select or determine which color he/she will receive. I ordered two drums and received the same color for both. It would have been nice to have been able to request the color I preferred. Over all, this is a good beginning hand drum for young children.

I'm a musician myself, and have a toddler who simply LOVES making noise when I'm playing. Unfortunately, she typically wants to make the best noise, which usually involves one of my instruments. Many of mine are either fragile or too dangerous for her to play with, so they're right out. So I bought this, because it was supposed to have a decent sound, good for kids, and it was really affordable.

I'm honestly surprised with the sound, for one. Sure, it's got a plastic head on it, but it's got a much better tone to it (it's actually got some tension to it) than any other plastic-headed toy drum I've ever seen. It's lightweight, it's easy for a small child to hold since the frame is nice and rounded on the inside, and it's got that nifty little way of storing the stick. All in all, it was a great buy. My daughter loves it, thus I love it. I think the stick is a bit on the thin side, so it'll probably break eventually. Thus, I'll probably replace it with one of my bodhran tippers.

So yes, if you've got a small child that loves playing with drums, this is a great portable little drum.

For my child it was ok. Bought it when he was about a year old.

The sound is not great unless you hold it up and hit it, which my son never could figure out.

His favorite thing was to drop it on the hard floor and listen to it crash and wobble.

My 6 year old son cannot eat orally and likes to chew on something, especially as he is losing baby teeth. We have used Chew Stixx in the past, he loves chocolate, but lately he hasn't wanted them. I bought these to try and he loves them. He can hold them and get them in his mouth. They have been wonderful for his molars coming in. I just bought him 2 more sets as we cannot locate one. :) we have tried a number of chewies, including the Chew Stixx jr, Chew Stixx, the hand and foot chewies, p and q. Some are better than others. These are his current favorite.
