Learning Resources Creative Color Cubes, 100 Pieces

I purchased these to use with my kindergartners. The blocks are a little smaller than expected, but I don't think that matters too much. I thought they would be inch cubes, but they are 2 centimeters. I especially like the cards with 3D structures that my students must do some thinking about to build. The description says there are 18 cards, but really there are 33.

My 6 year old son with autism and neurotypical 4 year old sister have a great time playing with this. It helps establish pattern recognition, counting along with learning what some, none and all are in a tactile way. We have owned this set for just over 3 months and we come up with more ways to play with it all the time.

I really wanted my son to have this set, but...The colors of the cubes don't match the activity cards, not even close! the point of this set is mute if the colors are soo off from the activity cards. VERY DISAPPOINTED!

I had to waste my time twice to order and return the item at a UPS store.

Honest reviews on Learning Resources Creative Color Cubes, 100 Pieces (LER0273)

My 3 year old LOVES these cubes! She enjoys building the enclosed designs and just stacking the blocks in her own pattern. It's been a wonderful addition to our homeschooling time. She is occupied for a lengthy bit of time which frees me up to teach big brother's challenging subjects! Love these!!

The journal itself was what i was looking for. Ii was purchase for a relative and contain everything that was needed except the key. The that is picture with journal look like it would have the ability to lock it,which is what I wanted, but that was not the case. The key was only for decoration, and for as much as the journal cost you would think a key would be included.

Orion 13039 2-Inch Crayford-Style Telescope Focuser Reviews

Orion 13039 2-Inch Crayford-Style Telescope Focuser
Customer Ratings: 5 stars

I have purchased from Orion before and they have always provided a quality product at a reasonable price. I purchased this because my old rack and pinion focusser on my 12.5-inch Newtonian finally stripped out after about thirty years of use. This focuser is at least as good as ones that cost much more. While it doesn't have a reduced action fine focus adjustment the oversized knobs provide plenty of control. The locking screw does just that the focus tube will not move when it is tightened down. Other Crayford focusers I have used still allow movement when they are locked down. I have seen complaints that it isn't a factory fit for their scope. So what!? Any time I purchase a new item for my scope I expect the need to perform some sort of fabrication or modification to adapt it. The only issue I have, and it's a minor one, is that the eyepiece lock screw doesn't use a brass ferrule. But, there are two of them on the 2" tube so as to reduce or eliminate any play in any eyepiece or camera you wish to attach. Once again, well worth the price.

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I purchased this focuser in 2006 to improve an 8 inch F5 optical tube assembly I acquired that same year. I was pleased with the performance of this item. This focuser is put together well and turns consistently in relation to effort applied so that as long as you have a steady hand you'll be fine even at higher magnifications. It doesn't have fine adjustment knobs, which may not be a requirement as long as you're doing visual only astronomy (not taking long exposure pictures) and or not tracking an object with a drive system.

Also, if you're tracking objects manually without a drive system, at higher magnifications you'll likely spend more hands on time tracking your object than focusing, so not much real opportunity for fine focus utilization. Finally at moderate and lower magnifications, focusing is or ought to be much easier, which also lessens a need for a fine focus usage.

I work as a pediatric OT and this a very valuable tool to address visual perceptual skills. The easel is great for working on

a vertical surface and all the pieces and cards store inside the easel. I have bought additional cards which all may kids love. It offers the ability to copy the designs from the picture cards and allows the kids the freedom to make their own design. Would highly recommend

The kids like it, I like it, what more can you ask for?! Good for working on spatial orientation, visual memory, figure ground, visual discrimination, fine motor manipulation of parts, lots of different skills. I like that there is an easel type board that stands up and I like all the additional sets that you can buy for it, although think it ends up being kind of pricey in the end if you collect them all. The pictures range from easier to more difficult so you can grade the activity and work on it over time. There is a storage drawer that pulls open for storing the original pieces and cards.

VTech - Write And Learn Touch Tablet
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars

First, I taught PreK through 3rd grade for 10 years prior to being a mom... with that said: DO NOT BUY THIS TOY if you want your child to learn good writing habits! Seriously, please read this before you consider buying it!

I mistakenly bought this for my own 2-3year old son without thoroughly checking out its full features. Although he really does like it, it's going back! The positibve benefits do not outweigh the negatives in terms of educational/instructional value.

PROS:

-encourages tracing with a pen stylus or finger touch on the screen

-includes a three sided, triangular pen, which is helpful to help start a correct early pen/pencil grasp

-easy to see screen, step by step instructions to form shapes, lower case and upper case letters (NOTE: SEE CONS BELOW regarding odd letter formation directions and modeling!)

-does engage my son (he keeps it in the bathroom as a special potty toy while he's busy "working", never gets old, will cry when it's gone)

-so far durable over several months of use and some accidental drops on hard tile floor and grabbing it by the stylus string

-has a free draw feature & a "make the picture dance/wiggle/jump" feature that moves your creation up and down a bit after drawing

--continuously positive praise for all attempts of writing/scribbling/drawing

-encourages shape and letter identification, plus beginning words that start with the corresponding letter

CONS:

-terrible letter formation modeling (make two lines down, then connect them in the middle to make a capital M!? NO way! Just one example. Several more!)

-child will have to unlearn bad habits and relearn properly when faced with school instruction, no matter what printing method is taught--every teacher from every district I've talked about this with agrees!

-loud volume, even when adjusted to lowest setting

-includes shapes, upper & lower case letters, no numbers (do they need to keep it separate to make more $ and force you to buy a different game toy?!)

-no tracking or way to self check w/ only positive praise (my son can color the entire screen dark and it says "great job!")

-absolutely no correlation connecting the lower case letters with the upper case letters, even though they are the same button, the two functions are entirely different and do not come together to help build this matchup for young learners.

Not recommended. Still looking for a better substitute! Do let me know if you happen to know of one, please. Thanks!!

My son is 3 1/2. He has no attention span and likes things that involve running, jumping, etc. It is difficult to get him to do anything that involves little physical movement. However, he seems to like this toy. We have had it about a 3 days and this is my take on it.

Pros:

* It has both capital and lower case letters

* The writing surface is easy to use and accurate

* It tell my son he has done a great job when he actually traces the letter correctly. If he does a poor job on the letter and hits the check to say his is done, it asks him to retry tracing the letter.

* It seems durable and has already taken a tumble out of the van door into a puddle. It is working fine.

* It has a shape tracing and free draw activity. There is also a hiding letter game which is good.

* you can turn down the volume.

Cons: Just a few...

* I wish that it started in the capital letter activity instead of requiring the child to select it.

* I wish that they had the same device but added a number activity to it

* The little pen is a bit thick for my son

* I wish that it did not say "see ya" when it was turned off. My son has started saying that which is annoying and he keeps turning it on and off just to hear the "see ya." It really is not the game's fault he knows how to push my buttons ;) However, I do not like slang so I would have preferred something like "I'll see you later" or "until next time"

Best Deals for VTech - Write And Learn Touch Tablet

I purchased the leap frog letter learning tablet before purchasing this one and was very disappointed. This letter tablet is far superior. The leap frog tablet uses a series of lights under the screen that light up and the child traces the dots, leaving a irregular pattern on many letters. In my opinion this teaches the child to make the shape of the letter wrong. This vtech tablet has the letters shaped correctly, so the child learns to write the letter correctly. This one fact was so important that I got rid of the leap frog and gave my daughter the vtech for Christmas. She loves it, spends so much time learning her letters. There are some child game systems out there that offer letter tracing as a part of the system, but I found this a better option for my daughter because I wanted her to focus on the letter writing and not be distracted by the other games.

Honest reviews on VTech - Write And Learn Touch Tablet

i just bought this yesterday at walmart and my son 2 1/2 loves it he quickly learned to trace the letters he just recently learned most of his alphabet so he gets excited that he recognizes them and holds his attention for a long time, which is very hard at this age another idea to add are tracing workbooks or free printables online.I will say i was already going to buy the leapfrog version but saw this one and saw no reviews so i went to walmart to try both of them out im so glad i did this one is far better in my opinion, sometimes its better to try at store and specially if its approved from your loved one :). Remember if your son/daughter are not interested wait a couple months and he/she will surprise you and start using it, speak for everything in general I know how hard we as parents want our children to learn but they know when they are ready.

By the way rated in durability 4 stars because i've had it for two days only so we'll see but if you've had or have any vtech toys you know that are long lasting!

My son played with this at his cousins house and seemed to really like it. His aunt highly recommended it as her girls loved it. So we bought it and my 3 year old and 5 year old use it a lot. I'd say 3 years is about the age for this toy. I find it above average in the educational department as well, it really is very good at teaching him how to write his letters. There are quite a few different play modes, but we have only used one. It's very well constructed and should last a long time.

These cards are great. They have hints and suggestions for the adults on the reverse side. The images are not always the best options. The cards are not as durable as they say. I am overall happy with them. These cards are simplier then the other ones. Great for showing the basics of color, numbers, and objects.

My daughter has had these cards since she was born, I think, or shortly after. She has learned so many words from them! I love that the reverse side has hints for the parents of things to say while showing your child the cards, they also have translations of the word into chinese, hebrew, russian, french, spanish, and german all on each card! The photos are clear and colorful, and the sets includes blank cards to add your own pictures. We added a picture of me for "Mommy" and Dad too! She's 19 months old now and she asks for the cards frequently. They are really durable, I discourage it but she does bend them in half and chew on them occasionally but they're still in great shape!

This was the first Hexbug Nano that I purchased, as I have been eying these toys on the store shelves for some time now. This is an intriguing little toy that does what it says it does, it acts like a real bug! I put it on my desk at work and it zips around bumping off of things. This thing is as fast as a real bug, and looks like a small cockroach when it is in motion.

The special skeleton add-on makes it look really cool, but does impact its functionality. Normally, if the Nano gets knocked over on its side or back, it rights itself in about 3-5 seconds. With the skeleton, it changes the weight and shape enough so that usually when it tips on its side, that's it. It is stuck there. Thankfully you can easily take the skeleton piece on and off at will.

The skeleton piece glows in the dark, and it glows VERY well. I have had a lot of glow in the dark toys in my life, and this one is by far the best. It glows very bright, even after being under a light source for only a few seconds. And of course, it looks really awesome when the little glowing skeleton piece is running around in the dark.

The coffin carrying case is a nice touch, and it functions well for both storage and display.

Finally, I wanted to touch on the durability of these things. Usually, when the Nano is running around on my desk, the trip ends with it falling off. It has taken a 3 foot fall off the desk onto carpet and plastic floor covering (for my office chair wheels) and hasn't suffered in the least from any of them. In fact, usually when it falls onto the plastic, it gets back on its feet in seconds, and keeps on running around! The durability comes from the simplicity of the design. There is only 1 moving part, and it is enclosed and supported. I don't want to tell you how it works because that is part of the fun of getting one.

If you are thinking about any of the Nano series, go for it. You will not be disappointed.

Although it's just like any other NanoBug HexBug, the 'coffin' case and glow in the dark skeleton (removable) attachment make for a good addition to my two sons Nano collection(which I love to play with as well.) It just stands out and is a cute concept, like the bunny ears and other holiday ones. I am sure any person who is into Hexbug Nano's would enjoy this edition!

Mine came quickly, still in the shrinkwrap, brand new, and well shipped from the vendor. We are all very pleased!

Best Deals for Hexbug Nano Mutant Zombie - Random Color

After checking these guys out on the shelves we finally gave in a bought one, of course we went with the Halloween edition. They mimic real bugs in several ways and kinda resemble a cockroach when they're in motion. They zoom around often times bump into walls, the cool thing is they can get right back up again.

So there are quite a few neat thing about the Halloween edition, first off the little guy comes in a coffin. This is great for display and storage, so it's a two in one there. On his back there's a special skeleton add-on, my only complaint about this is it pops off when he bumps into things. I have heard that it prevents them from getting back up again but I have yet to have any issues with that. His skeleton piece glows in the dark, very well. It only needs a bit of light and it's bright as can be so you'll have no problems watching him zip around.

The durability of the HexBug is great! So overall I think this is a great toy for adults and children alike.

I bought this for my wife as a replace for her last globe and found that this is actually a globe wrapped in a clear plastic ball. You can't physically spin the globe since it is suspended in liquid. It is a neat concept and works great in indirect sunlight. It starts to spin on its own inside the fluid-filled ball, which gives it the appearance that it is levitating. It's expensive, but a nice concept.

I have four kids 6 years, 5 years, almost 3 years, and a 10 month old. They all love these things, and so do I! I bought this five pack for Epiphany and we've been playing with them daily since. We did not opt to buy one of the pre-fabricated hex bug mazes; we use our wooden blocks to build our own mazes! We also have wood floors, and these things work great on them. The other place we use them is our train table. The edges are just high enough to keep the bugs on the table.

Cons:

The batteries run out pretty quickly. I'd suggest buying the 50 pack of batteries so you can keep the fun going.

It's pretty easy to lose these under appliances in the kitchen. One scuttled under the fridge and didn't come back out. I had to move it and discovered the reason was the copious amounts of dust had trapped it. Oh well. Good excuse to clean that overlooked space. Also, they like to dive into the furnace cold air return vents.

Will they continue being fun once the novelty wears off? We'll see. If the kids get tired of them I'm going to bring them to work to keep me entertained in my cubicle.

We enjoy the whole line of hex bugs in our house. They are easy to loose if your kid is playing in total chaos with them, so have something to store them in. However this pack is a excellent choice at the discounted price. They move crazy fast and are pretty realistic. This set, $25 for 5 and you can open this kit up and use them for separate gifts for birthdays, friends etc.

I bought this a while back for my nephews. I didn't know how they would like the Hexbug toys being they are 3 and 2. As far as price is concerned I found that this toy is best bought on Amazon. ESPECIALLY BATTERIES! Tracks you may get from the store a little cheaper, but bugs and batteries get on Amazon!

The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body Reviews

The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body
Customer Ratings: 4.5 stars
Buy Now
My kids (all 3 of them) had a great time with this kit. They love the magic school bus books and show. This kit made the book come alive for them. They had so much fun. The huge poster and sticks were really interesting and the experiments kept their attention for hours (not the easiest thing to do with three boys especially at their ages, 6-11 years old!!!!). I would defiantly recommend this product for your own children or as gifts (that is what I am doing this year. I have a pair of nieces that will love this kit!!!).

Click Here For Most Helpful Customer Reviews >>

I purchased this to use with my homeschooled 6-year-old. She absolutely loved it and it really helped solidify what we were learning about in books. She liked charting her process on the huge poster cart and excitedly shared the results of the experiments with everyone. It has easy to follow directions and everything actually works! You could probably round up the materials in this kit for less money but the convenience of having everything in one place and the kid-friendly directions make this a keeper!!

Best Deals for The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body

I bought this for my homeschooled 5 year-old. He really enjoyed working through the experiments, and he particularly loves the life-size poster that still hangs on his wall. My concern is that the experiments didn't always work well, and sometimes didn't really illustrate the principle that was being taught. For example, the model diaphragm required a sheet of rubber to be taped over a cut soda bottle... that was extremely finicky to get airtight, and I barely got it to work. My son certainly couldn't do it himself. Also, the poster comes with stickers of body parts which are supposed to correspond to the experiments, but they don't. I hate to quibble, since the poster was his favorite part of the kit; it's just the kind of inconsistency that caused me to see this as more of a toy than an educational resource.

Honest reviews on The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body

I bought this for my son's friend who turned six this summer. He has always shown a strong interest in the human body and after much research this seemed like a super age-appropriate gift to encourage his love of the body. He has loved it. His parents called me to tell me thank you and asked where I got it so they could get him more of the kits from the Magic School Bus series. I bought the one of space for my son and he (and I) have equally loved it and learned a lot. I bought this gift almost 6 months ago and when I was at their house about 3 weeks ago, I noticed he had his poster of the human body (which was a lot larger than I expected it to be) hung up on his wall across from his bed. I would highly recommend this (and any Magic School Bus kit) for any budding young scientists.

Find helpful customer reviews and review ratings for The Magic School Bus: A Journey into the Human Body

I know from experience that boxed science kits often look more interesting in the package than in reality. I was hoping this wasn't the case with the Frizz since we love her so much. But unfortunately this was the case here too.

Good.

The huge (life size for my 6 yo dd!) body poster is pretty cool. It looks like something that will last for a while (though it did rip when we unfolded it). The body part stickers are pretty neat too. We haven't stuck them on the poster yet though. I'm just afraid that we won't be able to get them lined up exactly with the body part outlines and then my dd will be frustrated. If they were repositionable stickers I would be much less anxious.

The instruction booklet is colorful and features the familiar characters which is nice. In theory, the topics should be interesting.

Bad.

Materials from home might not be readily available. Right off the bat you need chicken bones for experiment one. Not such a great idea for a kid who is excited to get the stuff out of the box and play. You mostly likely have to skip experiment one until you can plan for it. You'll need your own 2 liter bottle too. We don't normally have soda in the house but bought some for the "tornado" tube experiments. So unfortunately we had to cannibalize that experiment for this experiment, which sadly didn't work.

Materials needed from home might not work well. We had to use a cut-up 2 liter bottle for the lungs "experiment". Today's 2 liter bottles probably don't work as well as ones from a few years ago that were thicker and perhaps not made of post-recycled materials. The Pepsi bottle was much too flimsy to hold its shape when a rubber band was wrapped around it. Every time we tried to do the activity it fell apart. Household tape is probably not strong enough for the needs in the kit.

Materials in the kit don't work well. The rubber bands provided in the kit were too small to work on the experiments as described. We had to find our own rubber bands that were bigger. While I appreciated the quality of the construction paper provided, it was much too stiff to use for the joint "experiment". We needed to use our own. The plastic gloves provided are ginormous and even too big for my adult hands, let alone a child's hand. You are supposed to tape construction paper to latex rubber and pull on the rubber. lol. Household tape does not stick well to rubber on its own, let alone while pulling on it. The latex rubber provided was not large enough to fit around the Pepsi bottle without leaks. It should have been larger and a circle shape instead of square. The tubing for the ligament "experiment" was shorter than pictured in the instructions so we had to put it together in a different way and didn't work as well as pictured.

Instructions are not well thought out. You're supposed to attach a balloon to the pop bottle and then turn the balloon inside out. That proved to be a nearly impossible feat. We figured a work around on our own. The instructions sometimes seem to be written in the wrong order at times. They aren't as detailed or as well thought out as you might expect for educational materials. It feels like the people writing the instructions didn't actually test out the activities. A good teacher would have much more clear and detailed instructions.

Instructions are not very detailed. You get reminders to "put this system's stickers" on the poster. However, the experiments don't do a good job of explaining to which system they belong. It would be better if the "experiments" were clearly introduced and presented within organ systems. You have to fill in a lot of blanks yourself as a parent/teacher. Some of the instructions seem like after thoughts just thrown in.

Instructions are formatted as "hypotheses" which is really a misuse of the scientific method in my opinion. These are activities designed to illustrate how things works, not actual experiments which you can observe outcomes. (Well except maybe experiment 1 which you have to skip until you have chicken bones.) All the blank space provided to fill out hypotheses and results would have been much better served with more actual information and facts about the organ system which is presented in a very sketchy way.

The science kit just doesn't live up to the reputation of interesting, clearly organized, factual information provided in the Magic School Bus story books.
