As soon as this product arrived, I opened the packaging and was going to put it away with other toys in the toy shelf when this fell from my hand and one of the green circles that goes on the square prism fell down and broke. Immediately, I called the Guidecraft customer service (their number can be found in guidecraft.com) . Unlike long holds, a human answered my call right away and promised to call me the next day and took my name and number. An lo, next morning I get a call from this company and with in a couple of days received the free replacement of the broken part. I've always been fascinated by geometric shapes and

symmetry, so the Zome System was right up my alley.

I bought it for a big kid--me!

I also recommend getting the book "Zome Geometry",

which provides exercises, directions, and "challenges"

to really get you experimenting and thinking

analytically. Apparently Amazon only offers the

Pioneer Kit, and I noticed many reviewers suggesting

the purchase of multiple kits. Hopefully, Amazon (Toys

R Us) will start offering some of the larger kits;

beyond the Pioneer kit (121 pieces), you can also find

the 242-piece Adventurer kit, all the way up to the

1308-piece Advanced Math Kit (which also includes

advanced "green" struts for constructing truly fantastic

shapes).

This is the kind of toy you steal from your kids. It's incredibly absorbing. I've seen chemists make fantastically elaborate models with this stuff. More interesting than Lego. You'll want to get more than one set to make bigger models.

I grew up playing with LEGOs and Erector set, and Zome are just as cool. Think of them as a scientific update to Tinkertoy. I first bought Zomes (this set) last Christmas for my 7 year old daughter. I saw them in a science store and thought they looked like fun. Before wrapping them up I decided give them a quick try and was instantly hooked. I stopped playing four hours later. My daughter loves them, too. We play with them regularly and do not grow tired of this toy.

Warning: I had to buy more pieces because there were not enough parts for really complicated models, and for octahedrons you need an expansion set. This kit is a good starting point.

Your imagination is only limited by the number of parts you have. Zome is fun for anyone who likes You can build very intricate designs, or you can build simple things. I have great fun creating molecular models, imitating crystal structures, placing [buckey] balls inside of balls inside of balls, and fractal-type three-dimensional designs. My daughter usually builds houses and other structures, and lots of stars. We have well over a thousand parts now and frequently build objects that encompass the living room.

This is also the best place to get more parts as you can buy specific pieces by the pound, 'naked' kits (without the packaging, saves money), glow-in-the-dark kits, DVD's and books full of building projects, and special pieces only available from their site.

The sticks are fairly resilient and will last for years as long as you are gentle removing them from the spheres. The spheres will last forever, and you can get other colored spheres if you want to build molecular models.

Zome is a great product, and anyone over the age of six or so can play.

Once again in this kit ZomeTool fails to provide an adequate number of pieces to build all the models in the enclosed booklets. This is a real problem for all who purchase anything less than the most expensive $119 Kit, which itself requires additional $40 kits to be able to make more than one model at a time. The partial kits (DNA, Buckyball, Bubble, etc) sold by ZomeTool are the rough equivalent of selling a set of Lincoln Logs with only 7 logs, half a door and 3 roof tiles: not a complete cabin. This is true of all the smaller kits. To be Educational for K-12, a toy has to have enough pieces. These simply don't and the Seller should be ashamed, in my opinion. The affordable kits are simply incomplete, and the larger Kits are too expensive. After all, we're talking about injection-molded plastic here, folks, not gold-plated platiniridium or GaAs wafers. Disappointing . . . . .

I ordered this set for my daughter. She has been collecting the Schleich animals for a while and was attracted by the large number of animals in this set for the relatively low price. She is happy with her purchase but wishes the detail on the animals was better. Other problems are: the squirrel is disproportionately large, the Buffalo is top heavy and we had to heat the plastic and adjust the legs to get him to stand up.

Overall, just "okay" for play.

These are very well made and durable toys. We actually used them to top a birthday cake for my daughter. The only downside was the size proportion of the otter and squirrel. They were much larger than I expected compared to the deer and buffalo. But we made due with it. A lot of detail in these toys and I would come back to purchase more if I need to.

Even though Pizza Mania is technically an Early Math game, to my boys its just a fun game. It is a game that comes with four plastic pieces and pizza toppings, everything being quite durable! The game also comes with a pizza chef which is a plastic pizza guy who talks you through the game! He does require 3 AAA batteries, which are not included and his Italian voice makes my boys laugh. There are only two buttons on him, Start and Game so it is quite simple for my boys to play, but I do have to get them started as there are two games to choose from.

The first game, Pizza Party, is more for beginners (or younger players) as it uses basic adding and subtracting by 1-3 toppings. The chef tells players what toppings to add or take away from their pizzas.

The second game, Pizza Panic, is for more advanced players. It is basically the same as the first game but faster.

The games last about a minute and at the end of the game the chef will tell you what should be left on your pizza, whoever's pizza matches wins! So yes there can be more than one winner! I really like that there (hopefully) isn't just one winner, as so many games are about competition but this game is more about self-confidence and paying attention. It encourages players to pay attention, listen to directions and not necessarily compete. While it is for 2-4 players (ages 4 and up) , really one person can play on their own to practice. My 3 year old loves to make the pizzas on his own and he is slowly understanding that he needs to listen to the pizza chef's directions.

Love this toy! As a former teacher, now a childcare provider, I would recommend this toy! The pieces are rubber and extremely cute! Excellent for teaching children to follow directions and learning to realize its ok to not always be correct, so long as they tried. Only thing I'd recommend is maybe a clearer voice from pizza man. You can understand him fine just could be a little clearer. But love the concept!!

As another reviewer stated it would be nice to have a volume switch on it. The volume for the pizza man giving the instructions is fine, it's the background music that is to loud. The Discover Amber Kit comes with five pieces of real amber, six sheets of sandpaper, a foil tray, a magnifying glass, a booklet, and a real scorpion inside a piece of fake amber on a key chain.

If you're looking for the instructions, it's on the back of the booklet. Sand the amber on one plane in a tin of water for a few minutes on each piece of sandpaper starting with the one numbered 1 and moving on to number 6. There's really only enough room for one person to work in the pan at a time, but you can always get another tin of water.

My eight year-old daughter and I only polished one side of each piece, as instructed, so it looks like a window into the amber. The organisms trapped inside are very small, smaller than an ant. Some of the pieces don't have any visible organisms at all. We tried the magnifying glass, but it is plastic and not very functional. Still, we admire the amber for its beauty.

The booklet is short but packed with information. It tells where amber comes from, how the insects get caught inside, how to tell real amber from fake amber, and a little about scorpions, as well. An interesting fact I learned: the amber in the kit is 2 to 40 million years old.

My daughter and I both had fun and learned something together today. She gives it five stars.

This kit was a big disappointment! I was very excited to get this kit and begin polishing the amber with my son. We read the book which I found to be educational and interesting but the fun ended there. We highly polished all the pieces of amber and only found 2 small ant like bugs. One of them was so close to the surface that we polished 1/2 the bug away before we could examine it. The other was so small we could only tell it was a bug with a magnifying glass and then only barely. I contacted the company directly before writing this review in the hopes that they would respond. They did not return my email. Too bad it was such a great idea.

They are not as well made as I thought they would be and the tonality is rather dull, but they are still fun and my kid dig's them. I added a soem holes on each end and suspended the holder in the air... built a 2 x 4 frame and it increased the quality of the vibrations, but overall I would think a better plastic might be used or something to make them sound better.

This was a recent gift for my daughter, who is almost 3 years old. She's always interested in my tools, so I wanted something safe for her to play with.

This isn't one of her favorite toys, but she does really enjoy it. She has found many uses for the hammer (which may or may not be a positive thing).

I love that the plastic is safe and sturdy. However, I wish the bolts were designed differently. There are three places where the bolts fit: the holes on the toolbox, the small plates with two holes, and the plastic nuts. The nuts thread perfectly on the bolts. However, the bolts slide right through the other holes. I wish that the bolts would thread through the toolbox holes, too. My daughter always tries to use the bolts with the toolbox, and it doesn't work properly. We can put a nut on the other side of the bolt, but then the nut needs to be held while the screwdriver turns the bolt. That's a little too complicated for a toddler.

Otherwise, I really like this tool set. We have other Green Toys, too, and they're all great.

I purchased this with the intension of having a quiet activity for church for my 4 year old. While this is a good teaching tool, it's not quite right for us for that situation. Some of the concepts are far too easy for him (shapes and colors) so don't keep his interest. Others, like buckling and buttoning, are quite difficult for him and require our help (and he is very vocal about that). Again, it is a good product that covers a variety of levels but not quite what I was looking for.

..and this toy doesn't disappoint. At first, I just didn't get this toy. I didn't think my daughter would like it, but this is hands down her favorite toy. She discovered it at 3 months old, and is 4 months now. A month may not seem that long, but I have learned in baby time that it is! She still loves it and always finds it entertaining. Sometimes, she'll even try to cuddle with it. It is made well, and there are lots of spots for babies to grab!

So pretty much all of these reviews are from people with kids, but I got this for myself and I'm 23 years old (It says for ages 5+, ok? I fit the criteria lol). I was looking through amazon for a counting bank and came upon this. I thought it was so adorable compared to the regular counting banks, so I just had to get it. It works great and counts the money accurately. I had a lot of change saved up, so I put on a movie as I was feeding the piggy. You have to wait a few seconds after you put in each coin so it can read it and add it. It also isn't as easy as just dropping it in...you have to use some force and basically push the coins inside. Overall I think it's great, and this is coming from an adult. I highly recommend this product. :)

Bought two of these for my 3 1/2 year old twins. They are getting at the age where numbers, values, counting, etc. are becoming entertaining to them. The bank does what it says, with some caveats. It is very, very easy to register false reads in the coin slot. And it happens a lot. Half the time I think they do it on purpose as they're just looking to see the number on the pigs snout change. I even went to the trouble once to take all the coins out, reset it, and insert them all myself. And I got a different number on the counter than the actual value of the coins. Two, at least for my boys, it's easy to reset the number. At first I thought they were opening it up when I wasn't around (which is a no-no) till one of my boys explained to me they were able to make it reset just by shaking it. The reset button is a little black button on the underside of the pigs head (inside with the coins). They shake the coins, they hit the button, they reset the count. Even with these items it works well for my children as they are at the age where we're just learning the concepts of money (and saving) and they're not looking for an accurate hard count. I would probably buy these again (with them at the age they are and the purpose I use them for) but they will have to be replaced as they get older.

My son broke his ceramic piggy bank, so we went in search of a new one. I was specifically looking for plastic this time around, hoping to avoid a break like the last time. We saw this and he really wanted it. We've only had it a couple of weeks, but so far it is great. He loves putting coins into it and looking at the digital display to see how much money went in. Helps him to recognize the value of coins, as it shows first the amount of the coin just inserted, then it will switch over to show the total deposited amount. There is no place to insert bills, so this wouldn't be the right type of bank if you were interested in that (although you can just unscrew the lid and put them in, if you didn't care about the deposited amount being correct). But for a coin piggy bank, we give this two thumbs up!

My four-year-old son was excited to get the Digi-Piggy and we liked the idea of a piggy-bank with a digital counter. However, the counting is pretty random, where pennies sometimes register as 1 cent and other times random larger numbers. In short, fun concept, poor execution with the counter.
